Leg 2

Started the day off by tripping into some cactus while trying to support Ross on Leg 1.  Also saw Amanda (probably been over 14-15 years). Ran “conservative” and smooth.

One of my favorite legs of the whole relay. Passed a couple of people while still running a decent pace. Jake, Bruyn, and Mary-Kate supported, nice surprise.

Surprised how well my body held up with lack of training. My hernia/hip whatever issue was not an issue so that’s cool. I had a great tail wind pushing me forward. Marieta, Trey, and Mary popped by to support this leg.

Don’t remember seeing anybody on this run. My right IT started to flare up in the last 800. I was pretty nervous for leg 10 with my leg starting to hurt and I knew the wind was gonna be crazy.

Leg 10 (Wind of Death) 

IT would flare up and then go away. Tried to run straight legged. Then once I climbed the hill to the reservoir things got insane. I got pushed around and sand blasted. Didn’t let up for about 4.5 miles. I just kept plowing ahead (slowly). I was nervous a 2 man team runner was close behind me but not the case. Once I hit the dyke the wind sent me flying for a good finish!

Overall I think this was my best L to L performance, even with a slow 10th leg. Ross and I were told we took 2nd but we actually won! Something about 2 man teams starting early and city workers not being able to do math or keep track of teams.

Going the Distance. Mental Toughness put to work this morning. I had to work through some hernia pain (from elevation, over use, and Zac Brown). I did my best to keep up with T Madison and the boys. My goal was to never walk and just keep the legs moving. When Tayson’s group flipped I selfishly still wanted to run so I kept moving. I wanted a new distance pr on this trail. Figured the varsity boys would catch me. When I turned around 40 minutes I saw Mama W, Terin, and Em. Ended up running with Em while Mama W ran with Terin. Em was crushing and I was doing my best to keep up. 3rd time she saved my run this week. After 80ish minutes went back out with Mama W and Holt to find Jake. Best run of the week.

PM- Hills (not so much for me). Started with girls then hit a bathroom stop. Cheered on hill runners then some minutes with boys. Probably extended too far following dirty Liam and the boys. Felt super tired and light headed. 5.35 miles

3:52AM- Tour de Bloomington. 

Best run for my marathon training, just had to wake up early enough to get it in. Had a goal of hitting 2 hours starting out at 8 min miles and working my way down to lower 7s. Hit a 7:49 2nd mile and just kind of rolled from there. Wanted to negative split and have the last mile as my fastest. Think I hit all my goals. Turned the Bloomington Loop into a crazy tour of so many roads in Bloomington. Hit 14 miles at around 7:20 pace. Love the Endorphins for this run. Feel like next weekend will go well as long as I run to my training. 

Almost cleared to run. Set a goal of only running the marathon if I was in the 170s. Hit 181 this morning. 
 

PM- Always a great time at the Cedar Invite. Took it slow and cheered on the fast kids. 2.72 miles

Fastest STG performance (in my name). I'm very proud of my efforts today. My training was not what I wanted (thanks hernia recovery). My longest run before this was a 16 miler las week but I did the best I could with the mileage I put in. I also lost 20+ pounds which helped when bombing down the crazy of the course. Fueled really well this time and even carried my own icy hot for those later miles. I only started to cramp towards the last 3 miles but no complete shut down like previous years. Holt really helped me around mile 24 to stay positive and relaxed. Had short conversations with Bushars, Matt Searle, T-Madison, Joe Allen, and Erik Miguel along the way. Overall a positive experience!
