| | Ran around Bloomington with Maritza.
| | Ran mainly by myself because I am a fat asthma plagued fool. Good to see the kids again.
| | Ran around Bloomington with Marieta until she fell and hurt her hip, then we walked.
| | Washington slow and by myself then met up with some of the crew. Then ran the last .75 I ran with Bentley with a 1 minute pick up.
| | Felt tired and beat up so I took it easy. I'll do more yoga and stretching.
| | Sluggish at first then came flying down Mustang Pass with Cartee and Carson.
| | Slow up hill running into Green Springs then some good downhill running with Tavin and Carter.
| | Hill circuit for the kids. Normal slow running for me.
| | Ran with Bentley, Carter, Carson, and Bry Guy. I let them go on the pick ups because I currently only have one pace.
| | Ran around while the kids did a workout on the track. Fun running in the rain.
| | Loved some city creek! I am in a weird funk for running. I feel like I will have glimpses of feeling good and normal then random pains or even old injuries pop up. I hope its just being out of shape.
| | Ran a little of the river trail to watch my dad finish the Half Marathon. I got close to the finish just in time to see Dave Holt finishing. Still feeling sick and cold air wasn’t helping anything.
| | Ran a little and wheezed a lot.
| | Ran and watched kids run the hill circuit. Then ended up running with Bentley, Dakota, and Elijah. Wheezing still present but it is becoming more bearable.
| | Ran out to the desert from my house and got on top of the ridge overlooking Bloomington and followed that all the way down.
| | Ran by myself minutes behind the big group of boys. Then ended up doing my own thing with the designated pickups.
| | Kids ran 3 sets of 5 minutes at tempo. I jumped in for the last 2 minutes of each set.
| | Great run (out by Red Cliffs)! I started slow and couldn't breathe so I backed off behind the girls. Then I contined on my own path for a minute. Ended up behind the top boys for the last 2+ miles. I ran fast enough to keep them in sights and it was a good but tough speed for me.
| | Too slow to keep up with the big group at first so I ended up doing my own bush whacking trail run in the middle to work my way down to Middleton. Feeling good just need to do the little things to avoid getting injured again.
| | Trail out towards Sunriver with Marieta in the rain. Just talked and relaxing run. Solid week for me. I’ll do my best to keep it up.
| | Out towards Turkey Farm Road. Turned back early with some kids. Feeling rotten again.
| | Just feeling rotten and cold.
| | Cold run but overall I was feeling more like myself.
| | Out towards the Dixie Rock but didn’t make it too far.
| | Up some cliffs with Marieta.
| | I fell behind the crew and struggled to find anyone to run with. Found Evan towards the end. My endurance is getting better at least.
| | Trails above Middleton. Followed Gabe and Zack at the turnaround
| | Just kind of strolled around. Then cooled with Gabe.
| | Rainy run with Gabe and Carson.
| | Kids did 2 10 minute tempos. I ran a little with Bentley to help him.
| | Ran around Aspiration point and the desert hills by that one lame school. Got some snow and wind.
| | Missed out on the mud run in the morning with the team. Ran the reverse Wal-Mart with Marieta. It was cool to run around the snow.
| | Felt like I was trying too hard to stay up with a group of kids but that’s ok.
| | Ran around with the level 1 guys. I did a couple of 400s with some of the guys.
| | Ran around and watched some kids do some hill circuits.
| | Ran around the hard streets of Vegas. I found a couple of different trails to run on. I knew I was going to hit a wall but I just told myself I was a pimp and kept the legs moving.
| | Easy little run to start the week.
| | Headed out with the big group of boys then I decided to take out the steep hills they were going to run so I headed out Middleton and had a reunion later.
| | Ran with Dakota, Caleb, and Bentley.
| | Didn't feel like running too much to conserve that energy for Lake to Lake.
| Race: |
Lake to Lake Relay (50 Miles) 07:17:00, Place overall: 21, Place in age division: 1 | | A rainly Lake to Lake Relay in the books. It rained for every step of my legs.
Leg 2- Ran the new and improved leg from the Gunlock turnoff and through Kayenta. I just took it easy knowing that I had many miles in front of me. My fresh legs probably made me run faster than I should have, but I thought I was being conservative. My Dad was knowhere to be found when I got to the exhange at the end of my run. Then I found him chilling in the bed of the truck
48:43
6.15 miles/7:54 mile pace
Leg 4- One of my favorite legs of the entire Relay. I just let the downhills take me all the way from Upper Tawa Pond to Cottonwood Cove Park.
40:11
5.16 miles/7:47 mile pace
Leg 6- This is where I ran into problems. My old chronic IT injury circled back on me. I slowed down a ton. Had some support from family cheering me on.
35:04
3.83 miles/9:09 mile pace
Leg 8- Running....jogging up the dam road with some bad legs. I felt like I could barely bend my knees. The constant rain was nice but it created some unwanted chaffing.
34:40
3.41 miles/10:09 mile pace
Leg 10- This leg is always tough because you see the finish line as you run around the entire reservoir. My dad and I made a plan after leg 8. If I was hurting too bad he would bail me out about half way through the leg. Well I got about 2.94 miles and my quads were cramping up. My dad was right there when I needed him most. He took over and slowly finished the dang race. Obviously I knew I wasn't in good shape for this race but I am glad I spent some adventure time with my dad. I also backed off enough not too do any serious damage (hopefully).
31:00
2.94 miles/10:33 mile pace
21.49 miles
| | Ran out a mile just to realize my IT is still giving me fits.
| | Just jogged a little bit.
| | 15 out and back. I slowed down to run with Christian and because my knees were hurting.
| | After watching some good track performances I felt like going on my own run. I ran out to the trails on Webb Hill. I had never run the trails out there. I was impressed and had a blast on the Kentucky Lucky Chicken trail. As soon as I left the trail my IT band started flaring up again. I think I'm good though.
| | Checked out the river damage with Marieta then out towards SunRiver. Just took it easy to see how our bodies are feeling.
| | Ran around in the hail watching kids looking miserable. Did some weights after.
| | After a day of cleaning and running errands I had to get out. It was late and not very far but still a good time.
| | Ran 25 with the big group on the turf.
| | Ran 45 with a good group but I fell behind due to some bad IT band pain (not again).
| | IT was bugging so I didn't go far. Seems kind of pointless with the pain.
| | 25 minutes with some grass run at 2450. Some punks stole Luke’s shoes.
| | Ran with some of the top guys until my IT gave me problems.

Tried out my dads ultraspire pack to test for my upcoming race. It worked well but my leg gave me problems about 7 miles into my adventure. I ran from Moes Valley to Santa Clara with some other trails mixed in. I wanted 14 but my IT wouldn’t let me get there. 11 miles

| Race: |
Sawmill Relay (Solo) (17.63 Miles) 03:28:02, Place overall: 9, Place in age division: 1 | | I had zero expectations for this race. I knew I wanted to compete and race well but was also fearful that I wasn't ready for the mileage.
Loop 1 (4.3 miles): I took no hydra pack with me because it was a shorter loop. The start of this loop (2 &3 as well) was basically all down hill. That gave me a false sense of hope...I ran with the top 5 in my group for about the first 2 miles. Eventually the hills got ugly and I had a hard time breathing. I was still competitive and survived. My calves were getting really tight on the uphills in my speed instinct 2. I've loved these shoes but they don't have the hoka cushion I have loved in the other models. As I transitioned into loop 2 I had Marieta help me with a hydrapack and I switched into the more cushioned Napali. Running Time: 43:57
Loop 2 (8ish miles): The shoe change was an amazing idea! No more calf problems. I ran smooth for the first 4 miles. I ran with a guy named Ricardo for maybe 2 miles. He told me how sucky our current loop was going to get. I was not excited for the horror that lied ahead. Following a sandy dried up creek bed then some eventually tough climbing. I had no energy when I got to those places. My overall mentality changed. I went from being competitive into safety mode. I didn't want to burn out after only 8 miles into the race so I slowed my roll. For the last 2 miles I cruised into the last leg. Running Time: 1:30:38
Loop 3 (5ish miles): The last leg was mainly a hike. I ran smooth on anything flat or downhill. This race was brutal on my legs. Even on the downhills my knees were getting beat up. I ran with some shot bloks last week and those seemed to work well for my energy. The running center did not have any this week so I settled for honey stingers. I don't think those sat well. I felt nauseated and light headed. I knew I was going to pass out or throw up. I didn't know which was going to happen first. For about 2.5-3 miles I walked. I eventually feel to my knees and start throwing up all over the place. A runner came and helped me but I didn't want that. I think throwing up actually helped me feel better. I slowly toughed my way through the last 2.5 miles, running where I could. My IT band was giving some problems on this last leg too. In the back of my head I just kept thinking don't push anything that will do some damage and ruin xc practice. I think I found a good middle ground. So I finished the dang race! Nothing amazing to report, other than I finished my first trail race. Running Time: 1:17:53
Total time: 3:28:02
| |

| | Took Prospector out 3.75 miles then flipped back. To add some mileage and for Jason and giggles I tried to go to Snake Tunnel. It was closed off so I hit Dino Cliffs instead. Ran with a hydra pack again. About 5 miles into my run I heard the voice of what appeared to be Carson Wentz. Some how my phone opened the ESPN app. The last 3 Saturdays I have covered 40+ miles with a pack. Steve Wallenfels would be proud. 10.02 miles

| |
| | Created my own loop on some paved & dirt trails. Monday mornings are always rough on me. Probably need to be more active on Sundays. 7.13 miles
| | AM- I woke up early but wasn't feeling it for a run. I eventually drove myself out to the AZ strip. I ran out towards Little Black Mtn. On my way back I did pick ups of 1,2,3 & 1,2,3. I mainly did this because I wanted the run to be over faster since it was getting hot. 7.03 miles
PM- Weights at my parents and saw the girls out running.
PM- 6 mile loop with Metler. We talked about NBA free agency and many other things. The time went by fast and the heat was bad but bearable. I averaged a 7:33 mile pace. That isn't saying much I know, but it’s been a while since I’ve ran that pace. 5.96 miles
| | AM- Did a little desert loop from the house. Got out really late. 5.11 miles

| | Tackled Ben Lomond Peak this morning. I obviously didn’t run the whole way up because I didn’t want to burn out early. My goal was to run on any flat or slight uphill areas. The peak was awesome and I really enjoyed the climb! Then I crushed it on the way back down the mountain. 15 miles total, I’d say I ran 11 of it. Hard to say with those uphills. 2 gopher snakes on the trail bringing my total to 5. 11 miles (running)
| | Brim Trail up by Powder Mtn. The loop was relatively easy compared to the other runs I’ve done this week. 7.02 miles
| |
| | After a long drive from Ogden to the cabin I got out and ran just a little bit. My legs felt really tired, probably from the driving. I wish I would have gotten up early and gone this morning. 3.26 miles
| | Marieta got sick from partying too hard with her family all week. So naturally there was no sleep to be had the night before the Bryce half. I was up until 2am and needed to leave around 4:30 to make it to the race. I threw in the towel on the race and just decided to run from the cabin. It turned out pretty good! I explored Harris Flat and almost got run over by some pronghorn. Also 6 snakes for the week. 10.42 miles

| | AM- Made some dumb mistakes today. I thought I was ready for sand hill but as soon as we got going I felt tired and nauseous. Then as I passed the main water tank road Zack, Keaton, Kenny, and Wesley were coming down. I should have gone with them from the beginning. They told me how some of the other kids ran the wrong route. Had I been there I could’ve pointed them in the right direction. 7.02 miles
PM- Went out around 4pm and did a little 4 mile loop. 4.02 miles
| | AM- Half and Half with Isaac E and Nathan H. Strides. 3.77 miles

PM- Got out for a short run in hot Vegas. Was it to chase miles or be away from family? I’ll never tell. 2.23 miles
| | Lone Mtn to Bonanza trail. I mixed in 3 1-min tempos, 3 1-min threshold then 5 30 second CVs. Finished off 3 threshold and 3 tempo. I ran a 6:45-7:00 pace for tempos. 6:35-6:45 for thresholds and 6:05-6:20 for CVs. I had some favorable downhills so I focused on effort instead of the pace on my watch. I got really overheated towards the end of the run. I blame Vegas! 8.01 miles
| | AM- 15 and 15. 4.61 miles
PM- Got out hoping to get rained on but never really came. So just muggy. 4.40 miles

PM- Weights were disappointing as far as the turn out but fun with the kids and Roberts. Then on the run I pushed to stay up with Tyler, Matt, Jason, and Carter. Added a little with Marieta after that. She hated the heat. 5.05 miles
| | AM- Trailed the top guys out past Staheli farm and into the desert. I felt dumb for not running with anyone but I did some good pushing on my own. 10.02 miles

| | AM- Hopped on the VRRT from our camp site. I took the lead once we crossed the Webster Flat road per request of JD. A couple of minutes later I tripped and popped right back up. I have bad sinuses today and that made breathing hard. 5.13 miles
PM- Ran another easy 25. The team was out to help each other after some great capain meetings. It was fun to see! 2.58 miles
| | AM- Ran from camp and headed back out on the VRRT (love that trail). My focus was to help "Chad" out. He did awesome and turned around about 30 minutes into the run. I decided to press on vs head back with Nathan. Then I caught up to Roberts and the girls. I took a little lead and Keaton followed and passed me. I encouraged him to press on and I followed him all the way to the van at Te-Ah campground. I ran well and I was very impressed by Keaton. Our run was about 100 minutes and had some good climbs. We even ran a little extra once we got to the van. The rain was nice! I added a little once we got back to camp to make sure everyone was back. 10.71 miles
PM- Muddy and fun 20 with the team. Everyone was goofing around in the mud and rain. I am very proud to be a part of this team! 2.52 miles
| | AM- The dreaded uphill run! It's funny to see how much these kids dread certain runs. At the same time they show a lot of positivity once we get out on it. My goal was to help some level 1 guys make it up the steep climbs. As I headed out I ran with the girls, Roberts, Trey, and Nathan. It was fun and I coasted some downhills with Jess. After 20 mins of downhill we of course had to flip it back. I helped Nathan maintain a good pace and rely on his affirmations. At one point we heard some dogs barking from a side trail, I quickly ran up to protect the girls (mainly Alli). The dogs weren't going to do anything but I yelled at them to go home. Surprisingly they both turned away after I yelled. 6.74 miles (1.50 warm up on my own)
Camp was amazing! I am excited to get the season going and see these kids in action!
| | AM- Ran some random trails starting from some bathrooms at Tropic Reservoir. I found Keyhole Arch. It reminded me of running in Bryce Canyon. Nice single track through pink rocks. 6.20 miles

PM- Braved the heat with Metler, Trevor (2003 stg marathon winner), and Marieta. I only made it 1.5 miles before I turned back to run with Marieta. Then I added a mile going sub 7:20 mile pace. I know not fast but I need to run faster to end my runs. 4.60 miles

PM- Jog around the hood. Marieta joined me for a little bit. 4.06 miles
| | AM- Green Springs for as long as I could. Turned back with Roberts. 2.55 miles
PM- Weights and 15 minute loop. 2.01 miles

PM- Setting up duel in the desert then warm up with the boys. 2.83

| | Dope run! My dad drove me and my bro and sis in law 12 miles up the marathon course from vernon. I wanted to run 14 but got a late start and wanted to be at xc practice at 8. I knew I had to run quick to make it to the finish line and my car. I ran really smooth the whole way. I know the course is fast and my times seem more impressive than they would be on a flat 12. However, I was proud of my mental toughness and calmness. Metler passed me in the last mile and I wish my legs would have responded better to go after him. At xc practice my quads were hammered so nothing impressive there. Ran with Roberts, Sadie, and Macy.

PM- Smashed the competition in a team picture scavenger hunt. Then added on just to feel something. 4 miles
| | AM- Got 5 in before meeting up with the team. I parked out by the grass valley/pinto road. I ran a mile up the steep road then back to the Roberts cabin. As I got close to the church these 2 cows got scared and crossed the road. One of the cows peeled out and slipped on the grass. It was quite the spectacle. I did my best to stay with the varsity but on the uphills I couldn’t do it. I still put in a decent effort. Then for the last 2.5 miles of my run I went hard trailing the varsity on the downhill. I threw in a 5:46 mile with some low 6s. 12.25 miles

PM- Fun desert run overlooking Bloomington finishing with a 6:36 mile. Then relaxing hike/picnic with Marieta up towards Webb Hill. I knew I had to get out this afternoon because I have a standard of hitting over 10 miles each Saturday. Looking back I realized I have kept this standard since the first Saturday in May. I have averaged 13.5 miles over the last 17 Saturdays. 5.38 miles

| | AM- Camped down by Pine Valley Creek. Woke up at 5am and headed towards PV. I kind of like running in the morning before the sun comes up. It also helps me on hills because in the dark I don’t realize I’m climbing a hill. I made it to the whipple trail before I started to get some sun (around 6 miles). Then I switch backed for about 2 miles on the trail before turning around. All in all a good satisfying run! 15.42 miles

| Race: |
St. George Marathon (26.28 Miles) 03:29:26, Place overall: 663, Place in age division: 454 | | Well this marathon was very similar to previous ones. Similar because I fell apart towards the end. The unfortunate and sad part was I actually prepared well for this one. My IT band flared up at about 11 miles. I pushed pretty well for some miles after but the pain was pretty intense. Once I started the crazy downhill by Diamond Valley I knew my my sub 3 goal was going to be out of reach. I was a little emotional because I put a lot of good mileage in the last 5 months. Then to have the same dang injury flare up and ruin my race was disheartening. I debated dropping out and preserving my leg but for some reason I decided not to. I stopped a lot to get icy hot on my legs and stopped for a bathroom break. Maybe I’ll never master the marathon and that’s ok. I just want to be in good shape and run far.
