I  registered for the Thanksgiving point 5k on the 28th. Ready to kick some rear :)

37 min elliptical doing high intensity intervals. Sweaty stuff. Then weights -working lats. Then ran 6 miles outside. Freezing my buttocks off. Weather get warmer please. Oh please.

Strength trained my legs for about 20 minutes first thing today.

47 minutes spent on the elliptical, further wearing myself out.

A really bad session of 12x400's at the track. I felt sluggish and lacked pick up. Last Wednesday's session was better. I haven't slept enough the past 4 nights. That, I'm sure, has not helped the cause. As well as the horrible eating I've been doing too.

FAIL.

25 minutes of elliptical hell. Then ran 5 miles, fast paced on the dreadmill.

Egg hunt this morning put on by the city was terrible. Finding eggs in snow is whacked.

4 miles @ 4:30 pm river trail out and back. Hot out. My legs felt tight all over. Probably due to the faced paced dreadmill workout yesterday.  Avg pace 7:41.

Goals this week:

hit 45-50 miles

Two a day workouts on my recovery mode days

Eat no sugar and less carbs. I can do this. I've done it before.

Drop 3 lbs. I can do this :)

Lovin this weather, but Thurs-Sun look terrible. ugh.

Strength trained doing random stuff. Elliptical for 40 minutes

Ran 7.70 the river trail in reverse plus some extensions. Going to stick to my goal of no sugar this week. I can do this. Avg pace 7:42 PM update** 3.5 on the river trail. Welcome back two-a-dayers! I never ran many two-a-days last year. I was so afraid of re-injuring. All I know is that in 2010, two a days boosted my fitness. I'm hoping for the same this year.

Strength training again, random stuff. 32 minutes elliptical.

6.5 outside. Temps were better this morning, not as cold as yesterday. Legs felt a little heavy, but totally understandable since I ran twice yesterday. Creepy things this morning, spotting a big black garbage bag in the weeds near a pasture. Obviously with something in it. I let it creep me out for a minute. Sometimes I am startled by my own shadow in the mornings during my run. Just a few more weeks and the sun will be out even earlier. I generally run 6-7 am, sometimes 5:30 if I need to cover a longer distance. I can't wait for summer though.

avg pace: a slow recovery 8:05

3 more miles I hope this evening. Probably just as slow or slower

pm update- 2 Sloooow miles on very tired legs. I was contemplating being over my track workout tomorrow because of it. Then I looked at Andrea's pm workout. Her track work was on tired legs. If she can I can. I haven't been hurt the last few months...so no excuses. let's do this!

A very interesting morning at the track. I came with a 200m workout that Jake was so nice to share with me. I started trembling a little as I pulled up to the track. I always do. That quickly leaves once I warm up thankfully.

1.5 mile warm up at a very slow pace. My friend Julie showed up. She did some small spurts of her own speed work, but I plugged into my own. So...

3x (4x200m) with a 200m recovery in between, 400m recovery after the 4th repeat on each set.

SO HARD. SO SWEATY -it was warmer out today. SO DETERMINED. I made it through all 12!

I need to get them all a little more consistent with the times, but, splits for each 200:

1- 40 sec

2- 46 ah oh, too slow

3- 43 more like it

4- 42 sec

5- 44

6- 42

7- 44

8- 45 too slow

9- 44

10-43

11- 44

12- 41

Ran some cool down with Julie after. Beautiful morning.

Pm update*** ran a very slow 3 miles. didn't feel to bad. But I could tell my legs were sore from this mornings track stuff.

I'm tired.

60 minutes on the elliptical. medium level.

Ran 5 miles at a  slower recovery pace (8:06) My legs are a little tired from the track plus the 3 extra miles I did last night. But it's a good thrashed, not bad. They are learning to take a beating again :)

Ok so let's play a game of honesty.

I am tired. Really tired. Out of control tired. it's been going on for months. I just haven't said much. My husband can vouch for me. I am acting like a person with mono. What should I do? I was thinking I need to go get my iron levels checked. Strangely enough, since that has been some chatter on Christi's and Andrea's blog this week. I feel like shiz. One day I am ok, and my turnovers are awesome. Then for several days I crash and feel sluggishly slow and fatigued all around. Maybe I am over training in the x-train dept? Many things to consider but I know I feel like crap for a few months now. I am kind of sad about it....

problem 2: my right calf has been hurting since my track workout Wed. Close to the bone about halfway down. It hurts. And something Allie said Sun or Monday scared me. Her first sign of her fracture was a sore calf. Yikes! I hit up the BCCA with l-glutamin supp today. That helps repair soft tissue in the body. I took this many times last summer. And during my quad strain just before Hobble creek. Waaaah me. I am feeling sorry for myself today.

Weights for about 35 minutes, nothing hard or crazy. Talked a lot.

17 minutes on the elliptical.

Ran 6.25 semi-sluggish miles outside. Avg pace 7:52

6 miles on the river trail. avg pace 7:57 -this had to be recovery pacing because yesterday my paces were solid and my legs were slightly sore this morning.

Have I ever told you all how my eyes water like the hep-C lion drinking fountain at Hoogle zoo? I run through major watery eyes everyday. Hate it.

Track workout disaster. Not sure what's going on, but I am fatigued, lack pep, whatever you want to call it. I know I need to sleep more, but wonder if there is something else. I haven't been taking my multi-vitamins for a few weeks, so I started that back up today.

Ran .50 to the track, and another 1 mile on the track to warm up.

Then 4x200's, 4x400's, 4x200's. Was about 3-5 seconds slower on each rep then I wanted to be. I just didn't have it in me today. The last week I have felt like a disaster. Who knows...

Cool down 1.25 miles home.

I've had a little more sleep the last 2 nights and am feeling a little less fatigued. Gym: weights, then 40 minutes on the elliptical. Then I left and ran 7 miles on the river trail loop twice. Avg pace 7:37. At mile 6 I watched a dog tied into the back of it owners truck fall out the back while he was driving. It was funny and a little scary at the same time. The dog is fine, no worries. The owner noticed in time and slowed down to put his dog back in the truck. Weird. Now I'm off to St. George for some trail running and hiking in Zions and Snow Canyon! Fun fun! I'll post pictures here each day. Sorry for the run on, I'm updating from my crackberry.

I ran 7.5 miles in the heart of Utah's Dixie! Its so HOT here, but so beautiful. I ran the red cliff trail and the silver reef trail yesterday. Such a good time. Am now driving to Zion to hike. There is nothing like the state of Utah, beauty and awe inspiring things are everywhere.

Ran 8.75 on the paved trail that runs along the Santa Clara river here in St. George. AP 7:49 I felt like I was chasing jack rabbits the whole time. They're all over that trail. The sunrise was very beautiful. My legs felt sore-ish but I was still able to run decently. Yesterday I got a lot of miles on my legs. I had run 7.5 in the morning with 8x200 pick ups intermingled. Then I hiked to Angels landing in Zion natl park, also hiked to the Emerald pool. I was toast last night. My only regret was not being able to come to the red mountain 50k and see Juney-Jun finish.

I have been getting 8 hrs of sleep the past several nights. I am feeling better, hooray!! I'm going to try and keep this up without boring my Husband to much. I think starting up my multi-vitamin is helping as well. I am going to go get some iron supplement too. It can't hurt.

My legs are still tired from vacation but I still got up and out today. Ran 7 miles on the trail. 7:41 avg pace. I am really noticing how much lighter it is outside. I left at 5:50 am and by about 1.5 in it was starting to lighten a bit. By 3 miles it was light enough to see everything. I brisk walked a mile cool down after running the 7, I used to do that all the time last summer. I enjoy it. Weights and plyo's at home afterwards.

I'm on a mission. I swear! Going to drop the 12 lbs I've put on since the Saint George marathon. I've been to relaxed since about January. It WILL COME OFF.

Hiking up to Angels Landing Saturday. Sweaty betty, I was sweating so bad my shirt and shorts stretched out and were literally hanging on me. I felt gross!

Track day! 1.5 mile warm up, then sprinted 4x200, then 2x400, then 6x200. I still feel like I am lacking something when I sprint. I cannot put my finger on it. I know there is always some wind resistance here. hmmm. I don't really know if my pace in a 5k will have changed much yet. I'm just not sure.

I ran a half mile cool down jog.

My right calf muscle is still bothering me. Strained perhaps? Not sure if I should go see the Dr. or tone things down. I don't know these days.

Elliptical for 46 minutes after.

6 miles ran on the river trail. I can tell my fitness is improving. It is hard to explain in words. I know you all have felt the same thing. When things begin to feel like they are clicking. Turnovers get smoother, you feel more light on your feet, like your barely skiffing the ground. Lungs feel like they can expand a ton, your not out of breath easily. Your recovery pace starts to drop as you get better. But it still feels like a recovery. I am starting to feel this. It seems to be just the beginning so I know there is more to come with smart and correct training. I seriously love running.

Weights afterwards at home. Plyo's too.

I did some weights at the gym, sorta. I felt really tired and probably talked a lot and screwed around for no reason?

5k shenanigans tomorrow. This will be interesting. How will it all digest with me and my fatigue problems and a hurting calf muscle. Interesting indeed...

Had a fun time today. Lot's of us FRB people were at Thanksgiving point today. I love the camaraderie of this blog!

Race start I spot Melody. It was good to see her. Knew right away that I wouldn't be keeping up with Melody, she's peaked and quicker than quick right now.

With some advice from Jake, I decided to be conservative the first 2 miles. But my problem was what is conservative for me at this time? Haven't run a race since Saint George, weight trained all winter, ran very randomly with no training until March 1st. I have been fatigued a lot. My calf hurts. That's why I call it 5k shenanigans!

1st mile- Way to conservative 7:04 split. I didn't look at my watch at all in the first mile. I just ran on feel of conservative. This was steady incline. Not easy running at all. But I felt good. Well no wonder! I wasn't running that quick sheeesh!

2nd mile, a few meters back I had been caught up to by a bigger gal. No offense but I was like okay, what pace am I running here, this should not be happening. I looked at my watch and had a bit of a wake up call. What am I doing!?!?!?!?! This is way conservative, kick into gear! Just in time for more hills. Split: 6:38 not to shabby of a split for the amount of hill work and twists and turns and garden exploring. Wow. Just wow.

3rd mile I gave it some kick.  Split was 6:10, As I turned the corner to head to the finish I could feel what the track work has just begun to do for me. I had plenty left in the tank (thanks to over conservative first mile) and my pace was in the low 5:50's with plenty of breath left and I am pretty sure, more kick. I know this is not my fastest time in a 5k obviously, but for the amount of incline and hill, I feel like I did okay. I am not unhappy and it rekindled the racing fire in my heart.

Afterwards I was talking to Walter and Melody about my hurting calf. They helped me figure out that is probably a shin splint. I've never had shin splints in my 10 years of running. This is totally new to me. Any advice anyone wants to offer I will take and consider! I don't want this to become an ongoing problem this summer.I had to warm up significantly for it not to hurt today. That's how it's been most mornings.

I had a great time visiting with all of our fast running blog group. I am so amazed at them. I love the warmness of everyone. We are each others biggest fans and cheerleaders. I love seeing everyone do well and meet goals and feel good.

Last thoughts: how about those dead sexy Altra Maniacs?  They are total studs and crack me up. I love this blog.  :)  And..... this year....2012 marks 10 years ago this September that I began running. I have enjoyed every minute of it. I hope to be able to enjoy more years of running and running without injury. I hope I can do significant things this year in honor of my 10 year anniversary. Thanks for letting me blab!

4 miles cool down.

I made it 7 miles today. But I am unsure that I can actually count that as running. My calf hurt a lot yesterday after the 5k and the 4 miles I ran afterwards. This morning started out as more of a brisk walk with a limp. Then intervals of running and brisk walking. More walking than anything.

I am so down. I think I need to see the Dr this week to figure out for sure that it is shin splints in my right leg. I am going to take 3 days off and see if that helps alleviate some of the pain and discomfort. I hope Provo City half is still within reach. If it hurts, I can't say that I think it's wise to try and run it.

I'm kind of weepy today over this. But I know if I take time off now, I have a better chance of healing up the problem quicker and UVM half can still be done. I also found a website that said to ice bath dip the leg 10-15 times with a minute break in between each dip. I did that this morning and will do it each day this week. Also I'll ice massage it during the day.

I did not run today because of the pain I experienced on Saturday evening and yesterday morning.

I've been ice bath dipping my leg each morning (it is sooooo cold and my toes are so numb when I am done!). I've also massaged round blocks of ice into my shin a couple times a day. My hubs has been massaging my leg with his strong hands. And, of course, I've been using my e-power machine on the leg, which stimulates muscle metabolism and blood supply. I already feel about 70% better. Amazing!

I think I will still be good to go for Saturday's Provo City half. I hope I can pull off some speedy stuff without hurting myself. I can still have a hope right? You never know!

Today I did: strength training and 50 minutes on the elliptical. Fat burn heart rate zone.

Random side note: I was 'featured'  ( I guess that's what you'd call it) on the facebook page of "recipes for Gals in figure and body building".  My first marathon picture and brief description of that day. It had over 10,00 hits  for the day ( according to the page owner/admin) and over 100 likes.  I got about 30 personal messages in my FB inbox. Women asking me how I train, or how to get faster. It was an honor to try & answer them. I hope the best for everyone that enjoys running.
