I really should go to bed earlier because I can't wake up the last 2 days. Not enough time to run longer. Eliptical for 40 minutes, running on the tm 4.50 miles with some speed work. Outside run tomorrow fo sho.

Ran 8.25 on the tm then did the eliptical for 30 minutes. It's just to dark out that early to go running alone. But either tomorrow or Saturday I'm doing a long run.

I also lifted weights and worked my core. I was sitting on one of the weight machines, and a guy I know a little bit snuck up behind me and did a scary noise. I flinched and wanted to smack him. He knew he was being a pill. Stupid gym

This morning... ack. Oh man. I wanted to do a long run today. It was all set up to happen, I went to the gym and did the elitpical for 17 minutes and crunched my abs a bit. Mostly I just showed up there to talk to Julie and find my lost long sleeve shirt I left there (which somebody adopted grrr)

We went home and ran on the river trail together for 4 miles. Julie had a scary experience this week with a weird man on the trail smoking and looking for his oh-so-sad lost puppy. So this morning when we were running, we went on a less traveled trail and we smelled fresh burning cigarette. Nice. It kind of freaked us both out for a minute. We made it though. No heart attacks anybody.

Julie had already run 6 at the gym, so after 4 she was done. I continued on in same old Lily fashion, head phones on, pushing myself. I stopped home for a quick drink (ok ok, I had to pee too, lay off). There at home my hubby says he has to leave to get a haircut. What? Nice.  Oh yeah? Well cut this- you cut my long run short husband. You're cramping my style.  ha! :)   oh well. Life went on. Julie and I made up for it by going out all afternoon on fun errands. Good laughs and we got some awesome advice via runners corner. Nighty night all. zzzz

Yesterday afternoon I got sick and puked 3 times. It thought today might be a no go. I woke up feeling a little sick too.

Julie and I headed over to Marion's house this morning at 6:15 for the race. Marion is so fun! I love the party she can put on! The packet pick-up was at the Senior citizens center and it was a little chaotic. We got our packets and Julie and I had to pee. There is a line, of course. We fueled up and threw our bibs on. It seems like we were just in the nick of time to the start line. We were at the front with Jen Hughes, Melanie Burnham and Michelle Lowry. So fun! Right before the gun was fired my watch said it was locked and I couldn't unlock it. I was freaking out. Somehow Julie and I were able to unlock only moments before the gunfire. I could've run without it, but it's always nice to refer to.

mile 1) 6:20 Were off and close to the front. Yehhaaaw feeling good and flying! A TRAIN IS CROSSING UP AHEAD AND THE GUARDS ARE DOWN? What???? Yeah you read it right, all of us peeps in the front thought we were going to have to stop for the train. What in the??!!?? Well wouldn't you know it, the guards lifted just in time for us front pack people to pass through. A Christmas friggin day miracle. Ummm, some man or boy up at the very front of the pack must have been puking, because during this mile the pack of four women I was running in saw and smelled puke for awhile. SICK! We are running so hard and I look over at Jen Hughes and say: "do you smell puke?".  She screams "yes and it smells like hell !!" ha ha Don't ya love racing?

Mile 2)  6:23 still pumping and there are 4 of us girls in a pack running. Totally clammering back and forth between us, I take the lead of the 4, then one of the others take the lead, it rotated between all 4 of us for about 3 miles. It was good. It was steady pushing doing that.

Mile 3) 6:20 Still some clammering going on with us 4 girls. This mile felt awesome for some reason.

mile 4)  6:30 dough! Don't run and grab a drink and then try to drink it. I never drink during 10k's!! Why did I do it today?!!?!?  I lost some ground people!

Mile 5) 6:52, See!!! the drink threw me off. I should've just kept running. Damn it. I am able to catch back up the the gals though.

Mile 6) 6:51 tummy is hurting, feeling pukalicious. I know I don't have much to go!

Mile .2) I don't know my split. I never turned my watch off and I am to lazy to go into the program to check. This race was a little hard (gradual inclines) but it was fun.

I came in 3rd overall female and 2nd in my age group. Super happy with it and a new 10k PR :)

Breakfast at Marion's after was so fun. Her delicious homemade buttermilk syrup is TO DIE FOR.  It was so fun hanging out with Julie (my besty). So great hanging out with MichelleL, RAD & her family, Kelli and her cute daughter, KellieS & TylerS and there adorable boys.

After the race I did a 3 mile cool down with MichelleL. Then came home and ran the river trail loop twice. 7 miles.

Today was a 16 mile day altogether.  Onion days results here

Want to run a race this coming Sat? This one runs right near our river trail and right past my house actually. I think I'm doing it. Why not help St. Jude anyway? http://www.windowworldutah.com/race/

I got to the gym around 5 and worked on the eliptical for an hour. I lifted and worked my core. I came home and ran the river trail loop + some. It was PATHETIC! I think I need a recovery day off. My legs feel sore and heavy. This morning was really discouraging.

I need tapering advice for next week for TOU. Offer up your advice please on how I should go about it. I want fresh legs without loosing fitness and endurance.

An hour on the eliptical and 36 minutes on the treadmill. Julie and I ran barefoot for about .30 of a mile. Then I went on to run another 4.25  practicing cadence  and all that jazz.We went to a running technique class last night at runners corner and learned some really great things. We know individually what we need to work on. I am heel striking at times, but I am also kind of recovering from it because I do pull my feet under my body, and bend my knee, absorbing more of landing. So in essence it's not a very bad heel strike. However now that I know this, I am going to work on better mid strike. Having said all that, I should've just taken the day off because I am TIRED. I got comments and questions at the gym from some about if I wasn't feeling well, or that I look tired. If people are saying or asking that, then my fatigue must really be showing up on my face. Maybe tomorrow I can sleep in and be lazy. We'll see.

I know, I know. I should be tapering. Starting tomorrow I promise...

3.50 miles running with speed intervals. 45 minutes on the eliptical.

Lifted a few weights and worked core. Came home and ran 5.60 on the river trail loop.

Taper can now begin I think.

Gym@ 5 am. Eliptical for 45 min. Worked core for 15. Came home and ran the river trail 4.10 miles. Feeling good today.

So I'm thinking about having my running shirts for TOU screen printed. Here is what I might do: Front of shirt: Real Athletes Run, the rest just play games

Back of Shirt: I trained on the Spanish Fork River trail 2010

Whatd'ya think? Maybe only one or the other.

I didn't run today. I just worked on the eliptical for an hour. I figure it is better than doing a leg pounding run.  I consider it part of a taper for me. Tomorrow I will run a few miles and rest from all cardio affairs Friday. Bring on this marathon. I am ready to conquer it.

Taper taper taper. Well a taper at least to me.

1 hr eliptical and 3.52 miles on the river trail loop. I never did get a shirt screen printed. I've  been on the go so much this week I never wanted to take the time to do it. I am kind of regretting it now.

Tomorrow: rest. Saturday: my first Marathon- I've been running for 8 years and never had a desire to do one until this summer. Wow.....surreal.

Other than that, stoked to run my first marathon tomorrow! Bring it on!

This was my very first Marathon- been running since the fall of 2002 and never had a desire to run one until this summer. I was VERY impressed with the way this race is put on. Super organized.

First off, I ran with a deep chest cold that showed up during the night while sleeping. I woke up at 12:30 am coughing and my lungs and throat  full of sick lung butter. I freaked out. I thought running was going to be impossible. Slept terrible the whole night -feeling icky. I've since lost my voice and am coughing up gunk. Nice...  (see yesterdays entry of a little sore throat).

My friend Julie and I woke at 4 and we headed out at 4:40ish to eat the motel breakfast which was good. We loaded up on food and juice. Drank lot's of water yesterday and today. (believe me, Julie and I peed like camels all day yesterday). We got to Hardware ranch and went to the porta-potties immediately. After that we cruised to the warming tent to find the one and only Allie! It was sooooo funny. Inside the tent was pitch black and Julie hooks onto my arm so we don't get separated from each other in the crowded room. I'm being silly (in my lower sick chest cold voice) I say out loud : Okay Allie, where are you?"  A girl walking in front of us in the dark tent flips around and who do you know? It was Allie!!!! That was the funniest moment of the morning -by far.

We talked for a bit and watched the clocks for another bathroom break. After that it was run time!  I went to the front of the line with Allie and Julie Esplin. Gun fires and were off!  Allie took off, and I just knew, in my mind, that Allie was going to win. I just knew it.

I ran with Julie Esplin for the first 15 miles. This was excellent for me. The pacing was perfect. Not to fast, but fast enough not to be passed by any Women. She and I talked a bit off and on,when our lungs allowed. I was a stickler about taking in fuel and grabbing drinks every chance I could, and that made a world of difference. About mile 8, I tossed my gloves. Mile 15 I took my long sleeve shirt off and tossed it on the roadside. I was running nice and cool after that. I normally run to music each day. This race I didn't turn on my headphones until mile 15.

About mile 15 I stopped for about 10 seconds for a drink and ate half a banana. That's when I lost Julie Esplin. I wish I would not have stopped now. I think pacing her would have made more difference for me. She got a little further and further away from me from here on. I was a little bummed. But I refocused back to doing my best and keep my output going strong.

Mile 17, in a full on run I busted out a snickers bar and pecked at that for extra umph. I passed a huge crowd who I am pretty sure noticed my bar. So I had some fun and screamed: "oh ya people, I'm running and eating a  snickers!"  Lot's of claps and cheers.  :)

Since I kept reloading on the fuel and drink water and gatorade nearly every time it was offered, I felt good....until mile 19. Oh my rod. I thought death was at my doorstep for a few minutes there. So I popped half a no-doz. Mile 20 was the same. Somehow, mile 21 and 22 I felt way better. It was during mile 21 that I got a little crazy and silly an began singing my headphone songs aloud. Aid station 21 I ran past singing and as I pass I scream to a crowd: "oh ya peeps, I sing out loud when I run!!!". This got them going and I was being cheered and cheered.  ha ha!  I love to have fun!

Ummm 23-26 was not easy. Constant turns and inclines, and running on the main St. was kind of awkward. You can feel many many eyes staring at you. The energy was the best at this race. THE BEST. I never really hit a huge wall until that last 3 miles- the death march. It was insane. I thought the finish would never come. But I kept plugging along. As I approached the finish with no female in front of me, and none behind me, I could see my sisters and family screaming for me. Such a pick me up! I looked up at the time-in a blur- and I see the clock closing out 3:08:58 and I booked it to the finish. I was so dilerious but so happy. There was some emotion, yep. I beat my goal time and Boston qualified and was the 11th of over 900 females. I don't think I could have asked for more. So happy. Love running.

Look at that measly number. 1.10 miles? That's all these legs could do. I am still recovering from TOU.

Never fear, I still worked on the eliptical for 1 hr and 25 minutes. So it's allllll goood.

Just a fun fact here. I've eaten like a horse this week and have still lost poundage. This is great news as my choice of food has been as follows: chocolate, chocolate, 4 giant cinnamon rolls, more chocolate and at least 3 cupcakes , a milkshake plus all the other regular old protein and food I normally eat. Better stop, I'm going down the path

I wake up super early every morning to get my exercisms in. And I find that the older I get,the more deliriously tired I am. I stumble around kinda incoherent in the morning. Stubbing my toes because I have no morning balance. Taking waaay to long to brush my teeth and pull my hair back and getting dressed. Zombie mode. Fun.
