Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

WALK/ RUN: 4.1 miles - 50 minutes -

6 minute walk to 4 minute run

5:30 minute walk to 4:30 minute run

5 minute walk to 5 minute run x 3

I had another puking kids last night (9pm ish).  But he got his "junk" EVERYWHERE - can't we at least try to aim!  So I spent the morning at the laundromat washing his comforter.  But he didn't wake up in the middle of the night and when he came down this morning, he asked what was for breakfast.  I love the pukes!

I had a really good workout this morning (except that the gym was playing Wizard of Oz in the Cardio Cinema room - come on!!!).  I had no pain in my ankle and haven't for the past few days.  I'm still not calling it good, but it is definitely getting into the range.

No bike ride tonight - I'm going to cheer my puker at his soccer game!

I can barely type this post my arms are so sore!  I've made a self-challenge to start to lift weights.  I have really bad posture and need to get my core stronger.  So I went to a power pump class - first time ever.  That was some tough stuff for a wimp like me!  My whole body is sore - head to toe!  But I'm going to shoot for twice a week with the weights - we'll see how it rolls.  (no cool videos like Burts though)

I got a short bike ride in this evening.  Wish I could have gone longer, but I was canning spaghetti sauce, freezing pesto sauce, watching my niece and trying to get dinner ready.  So I hit all my close, big hills - 4 of them.  Quality not quantity tonight!

WALK/RUN - 4.2 miles in 50 minutes - warm up of 6 min walk to 4 min run and then did 4x 5min run to 5 min walk

I am so flipping sore from power pump yesterday.  What a wimp!  In addition to the soreness, I am dog tired from walking around Swiss Days.  WOWZER, there was a lot of people, yummy food and it was hot.  Time to go to bed!

WALK/RUN: 40 minutes - 3.25 miles - 5 min walk to 5 min run.  Ankle felt awesome!  I told my hubby last night that I feel like I am progressing and moving forward and not stagnant.  This brings me great hope.  It is so hard to feel like you are going no where!  We'll see.....

BIKE:  Suncrest, baby!  11.5 miles 1:02:47 minutes.  I like this ride because it is short, but very intense!  I rode with my training partner from last summer.  It was great to catch up and I hope to be running with her soon!  I felt ok on the ride - my quads were ON FIRE from that stupid pump class.  I can't believe how sore I still am!

WALK/RUN:  4.15 miles - 50 minutes (5 minute walk to 5 minute run x 4, 4 minute walk to 6 minute run)

I felt so great today on my walk/run.  Again, I feel like I am moving forward and not stagnant!  I am still not fast and have a lot of catch up to do, but I'm on my way!

BIKE:  5.14 miles - 28:14 minutes.  We wanted to take the kids on a hike today and choose the Battle Creek trail which happens to be at the summit of my PG High School hill.  So I decided to ride my bike over and meet Tim and the kids.  That is a long hill to bike up!  I keep thinking it will get easier....someday!

I switched my shoes and we started up the short hike.  This is my kids first "real" hike and they did really great.  We walked like a "caterpillar" so we would stay on one side of the trail.  We saw a cave, lots of spider webs, and threw lots of rocks.  It encompassed everything a hike is about!

I was going to ride home, but it was almost lunch time when we finished and I still needed to go grocery shopping.  So I rode in the van.

I went to power pump this morning to try to "muscle up" a little.   It didn't hurt as bad as last time.  Hooray!  But I felt like an awful mother leaving my crying toddler in the daycare.  I think I am going to have to attend the really really early class (I think it starts at 4:50am).

WALK/RUN: 3.35 miles, 38:53 minutes (5 min walk to 5 min run).  My legs were tired this afternoon - I was standing a lot.  Canning salsa, making dinner for a cute gal in my ward who just had a baby (Mexican lasagna, fruit salad and cookies) and folding laundry.  So extra ice and ankle exercises.

Started on the TM and walked 5 minutes and then ran 5 minutes.  Ankle felt funny.  Hopped off and did 35 minutes on the stairclimber.  Still sad and bummed out.  Taking out all my aggression in steam cleaning my carpets.  The whole house got done.  Take that stupid ankle!

BIKE - 15.44 miles in 1:06:54

I rode my favorite Highland/Alpine loop loaded with hills. It was super duper chilly this morning and it took me a long time to get warmed back up.

I saw lots of deer too.  I was 2/3 the way up a big climb and out popped a deer right in front of me.  I was thinking to myself that he had better move because if I stop, I won't be able to get going again because of the steepness of the hill.  Luckily, he moved.

I set my alarm at 4:25am to go to the 4:50am power pump class.  But I quickly turned it off and went back to bed.  So I had to hussle when my hubby got home from work.

I run SO much faster outside.  Usually, I run on the TM a 10:20 mile (slow, I know, but trying to come back easy).  But today, I was averaging 9:00 - 8:30 miles.  It felt so great to go at a normal speed.  I hope I don't pay for it later on....

This is the furthest I've gone since January.  Hooray!  I went a bit faster today on the TM and did ankle exercises between each set.  I made an appointment with the PT tomorrow just because....a lot of reasons.  Ankle feels good today, but still not getting excited yet.

Power pump class today.  My arms are so sore!  I had two of my neighbors come too!  They put their little ones in the daycare, so my little one was happy to have friends.  FANTASTIC!

I really wanted to get a run in, but I have Pack meeting tonight. I also go and see the PT.

WALK/RUN:  3.68 miles, 41 minutes (4 minute walk to 6 minute run)

I saw the physical therapist yesterday to ask for more advice regarding my ankle (or WHY ISN'T IT HEALING FASTER).  He used these special tools (they looked like dull butter knives) and he "scraped" my ankle with coco butter.  OUCH!  But after the initial hurt went away, it felt really great.  Probably the best it has felt in the past 9 months.

I didn't want to get too excited, but......  It felt good when I ran on it this morning.  Tomorrow I'm going to try to run more and walk a little less. I am going to go back in for more scraping next week.

WALK/RUN:  4.57 miles - 50 minutes (1x4min walk to 6 min run) (4x3 min walk to 7 min run).  I am ready to skip and dance down the streets, but I am trying to contain myself.  My ankle feels great - the best it has felt in 9 months.  I am trying to contain my excitement because it has only been a few days, but it is hard!

Today is one of those days where I am really counting my blessing!

PM - BIKE RIDE  8 miles - 33:00  I only had 30 minutes until I needed to be home for family obligations.  It was a beautiful night and I wish I had more time.

I was a sweaty mess this morning.  I went to the gym alittle bit later than usual and saw WAY TO MANY people I know.  I'm kinda of anti-social at the gym (usually because I just roll out of bed and don't look my best and want to hurry and get my workout done).

Came home and got the kids off to school and went back to the gym for a power pump class.  Man-alive, I am uncoordinated and a wimp.  Now, I definitely need a shower.

I went WAY TO FAST tonight.  I never thought I would say that, but I hope I don't pay for it later on.  I averaged between 8:30-8:45 mm during the run (which still isn't that fast), but compared to the 10 mm I've been doing on the TM......

I ankle is still sore from the abuse of the PT.  More scraping....ouch.

After my run tonight, my oldest daughter (6 years old) want to "go for a run".  So we ran slow up to the mail box and progressively got faster.  I told her to "book it" during the last 100 m.  She did a great job.  If I ever have a kid that wants to run, I'm going to have to hold my emotions in check!

I canned way too many things today. Peaches and a few pears (the rest need to ripen a big more).  Spaghetti sauce...yummy. And apple pie filling and apple butter on Monday (we will have apple fritters for desert).  Plus I have 2 big buckets of green beans to take care of.  The shelves are filling up!
