Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I played the BEST April Fool's joke on my family.  We announced that we were having another baby (IF we have another baby, it's gonna be awhile - A LONG WHILE) via email.  Everyone fell for it hook line and sinker!  It was awesome!  (Just to re-clarify, we are NOT PREGNANT)!!!

It's been a hard week for me.  After going to the doctor last week and being told I need to let my ankle heal for a few more weeks, I totally felt depressed and lacked motivation.  Plus all this crummy weather and barfing kids haven't helped.

I did go to spin class this morning and felt great!  I am even sore (I love that feeling).  I really loved the teacher and she had great music.  Some girl walked in 30 minutes after the class started (the class was completely full) and asked the instructor if she could use her bike.  Urgh....  Then she was hardly biking.  Gently peddling!  I thought to myself, "Who do you think you are"?  She really bugged!

The St George Marathon registration just opened and I had planned on running it.  This would be my first marathon.  But I am still undecided.  It seems like the past 2 races I've registered for I haven't been able to run due to the stress fracture.  I feel like I am jinxing myself.

So I guess I am looking for some advice.  I know I can be completely ready to run Hobble Creek 1/2 marathon and Provo 1/2, but I am worried that I can't be ready (really ready) for St. George.  Any advice?

Sorry to be a whiner tonight - too much Easter candy.

30 minutes on bike

15 minutes on elliptical (planned on 30 minutes, but ankle felt funny)

Still contemplating whether or not I should do St George Marathon.  Ankle is still funny and I still think I'm out for a few more weeks.  Maybe it will be a 5-10K racing season!

I'm SO ready for spring to come.  This snow is totally depressing!

I took all the kids to the daycare at the gym today.  I was planning on swimming a 1600 M, but they had to close my lane down because a water aerobics class was going to start.  STINK!!!  So I got 42 of 64 laps done.  I didn't bring any other workout clothes, so we headed home.  Oh well, the kids were glad to get out of the daycare early!

My big kids were playing at a friends house today, so it was just my Peachy and I at the gym.

1 hour spin class.  The lady next to me was rubbing some weird stuff in her nose and on her neck every 45 seconds.  WEIRD!

I think I am going to start P90X.  I weighed myself this morning and I the heaviest I've ever been (except while pregnant).  I am really disappointed.  Yes, I want to the lose a few pounds, but I really want to make a life style change.  Hope I don't die doing the P90X :)

I'm getting ready to head off to NYC with hubby!  I've always wanted to run with the NYC Niketown running club and in Central Park - maybe next time!

I just got back from NYC this early, early morning!  It was awesome to see the warm sun shining in UT!  I think I could live in that city. I LOVE IT.  Though it is not a very kid-friendly city, I still adore it!

I was able to work out Monday and Tuesday in the posh hotel gym.  WOW - they had state-of-the art everything!  I lifted and did lots of core and rode the bike.  I walked SO many miles around the city, I didn't worry about cardio.  My ankle was so sore by the end of the second walking day.

One fun tid-bit - I boarded the plane to NYC with Val Kilmer (he was totally trashed).

It is always fun to go away, but it is always fun to come home.  I got lots of love and cuddles this morning.  I don't think I will be working out today....too much cleaning up and laundry!

This is a BIG SHOUT OUT to my hubby (who doesn't blog here, but I'm going to report anyway)!  He did the Telos Tri Mini Sprint today and did a personal best!  I am so proud of him!  Even though I was registered to do the tri, I couldn't because of my stress fractures.  I was sad and had a short pity party, but I LOVED being able to cheer on all the atheletes!

Another BIG SHOUT OUT to Missy who swept the ladies division!  She is amazing (super muscles too)!

Tim borrowed a SWEET bike for the race and I had to take it for a spin this afternoon.  WOW - I can't believe the difference from his mountain bike.  I picked a route with BIG hills (I need to start thinking about the November Telos) and thoroughly enjoyed my ride!  10.16 miles in 48:16 minutes

I took the kiddos to the gym daycare today while I swam.  I broke up my 1600 M into 350M segments  (the swim distance for a mini sprint).

1st 350 M - 9:49

2nd 350 M - 9:44

3rd 350 M - 9:40

200 M Recovery - 5:51

4th 350 M - 9:14

Total time 44:21

Felt great during the swim.  I was thinking about all the Boston runners - I'm totally jealous!  Can't wait to hear those reports!

Feeling a bit frustrated about my stress fracture in my ankle (since I should have been recovered at the end of March), I made an appointment with a podiatrist (last doc was a sports medicine specialist).

They took a digital x-ray and it showed there were TWO stress fractures in my ankle.  Previous doctor told me only 1.  He said that biking was not a good choice of exercise - still stress on the ankle (so all the biking I was doing made it worse).  I'm down to swimming and pool running.

Plus, he put me in a boot for 4 weeks.  Oh well!  I'm hoping the boot will stabilize it enough, so it won't hurt.

One day at a time!

On a positive note, I found this AWESOME website that sells jewelry for runners.  It is FANTASTIC!

I hope to get a pool run in sometime today!

My ankle feels SO great in the boot. Tomorrow my main goal is to get a good pool run in!

I was working on my 3 girls Easter dresses (yep, I'm totally behind) all day! I have one left to finish. But here is a picture of their Christmas dresses.....

No workouts for me.  I guess, I just really want to get better and am doing nothing to aggravate my ankle.

It stinks being a lazy bum......It does feel better (but maybe it is just being in a boot). 3 more weeks till my next appointment (hopefully to get clearance to start back).

I've been trying to make some running goals for next year and want to know what is your favorite marathon in the US (can definitely be outside of Utah).

I need to have something bigger to look forward to - having nothing to look forward to is driving me bonkers.

I've maybe been thinking Big Sur?
