Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

This is a BIG SHOUT OUT to my hubby (who doesn't blog here, but I'm going to report anyway)!  He did the Telos Tri Mini Sprint today and did a personal best!  I am so proud of him!  Even though I was registered to do the tri, I couldn't because of my stress fractures.  I was sad and had a short pity party, but I LOVED being able to cheer on all the atheletes!

Another BIG SHOUT OUT to Missy who swept the ladies division!  She is amazing (super muscles too)!

Tim borrowed a SWEET bike for the race and I had to take it for a spin this afternoon.  WOW - I can't believe the difference from his mountain bike.  I picked a route with BIG hills (I need to start thinking about the November Telos) and thoroughly enjoyed my ride!  10.16 miles in 48:16 minutes

A sweet bike really adds to the enjoyment of cycling huh.

Get me the number for that hotty in the bottom picture. I like her calves. LOL!

I love these pictures. That race looks super fun. Okay, when are you going to get better? Reading your blog really makes me sad. Where are you at as far as recovery? Surely you must be making progress.

Congratulations to your hubby!

I've never had a sweet bike. Maybe that's why I'm no good at cycling. Yeah, I'll blame it on the bike.

Thou shalt not lust, Burt, but that really is some muscle in that calve.

Bec-Sorry to make you so sad! I'm 14.5 weeks not-recovered ( I should have been recovered at 8 weeks then 12 weeks). I am getting a walking air cast to see if it helps.

I can't tell you how frustrating this has been. I feel like there is no end in sight. I feel like I'm in a big giant hole and will never get out.

I've followed my docs orders (bike, swim, pool run) to a T. So depressing! I'm hoping that the cast will help. So much for a big racing season!

Thanks for your concern - I think my family and friends are SO tired of hearing about it :)

So sorry you couldn't do it! I'm in the same boat, and it is TOUGH! So hard not to wallow in self pity.

I think you should get yourself a sweet bike! Surely it will help.

Toby, this whole time I thought I had made a comment on this post. Maybe it was a dream..haha.

First off, grats to your hubby! I hope he had the time of his life..It was perfect weather, seemed everyone was in great spirits.

I love how your husband is smiling...I look like I am smiling but I think I am snorting/grimacing.

Burt..lolz. I was happy my calves behaved on race day...those beasts get cramps from time to time.

Carolyn...I think the calves have a mind of their own.

Toby, on your injury...Hang in there. If you want to complain to me, I don't mind. :D In the meantime do the other things that bring you joy!!! How is your garden going?
