Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

8 miles with Kellie T. on the MCT at dark o'clock.  I felt super good and was able to keep up with her.  It was fun to catch up.  I turned 39 years old today.  Going to Swiss Days to eat tacos.

Alta to Brighton with Kelli, Melissa, Heidi, and Shaneil.  This is still a really hard course for me.....geesh!  I suck wind the entire way.  I'm not sure if it is because we start at 8600 feet and climb to 10, 200ft.  Ugh...it was hard and my legs were burning.  Hard on the ego.

Lambs Canyon to Big Water  TT:  2:38  AP:  25:37

I was Kelli S.'s pacer for the Wasatch 100.  She was not feeling well when I picked her up at Lambs.  She was complaining of dizziness and vertigo.  When we started to climb, the dizziness got worse.  She was walking like a drunken sailor and I would have to pull her up by her pack.  When we got to Millcreek Canyon, we caught a ride to Big Water.  We took the shuttle to a grocery store.  I hope it wasn't my pacing that caused her a DNF.

I was hoping for a big mileage week, but my schedule kinda fell apart and I ended up with a lot more tapering.  I'm feeling very undertrained for SG right now.  Gotta pick up the pieces and move forward.

WOWZER...that was hard.  Hard because I started at 4:00am.  Hard because it has been way too long since I've run long on a road.  Hard because I'm out of shape.  SG might be kinda ugly!

I heard a knock at the door at 5:30am.  They kept knocking and knocking.  I finally got up and answered it.  Wrong house.  Grrrr

43 degrees this morning=heavenly compared to the 70's I've been running in.  High hamstring still pulling.  Good run though.

Last big week before SG.  Time to taper.

Pine Hollow--Ridge Trail with Kelli

TT:  2:33  AP: 17:01  Elevation:  2424

It was truly a beautiful day out.  The leaves have barely started to change colors.  We (more like, I ) was slow today.  I'm such a cautious trail runner.  And I was talking more which means less running.  Very fun, but I felt bad that I was so slow.

Everything felt good.

I turned our heat on in the house last night because it was in the 30's.  It ran ALL NIGHT LONG.  My house was 87 degrees this morning and I had 4 grumpy children.  Dumb.

Lots of laides this morning and a very easy pace.  The leaves weren't very colorful though.

Right quad is VERY sore and tight.  Chiro appointment tomorrow.  I always assume the worst (hoping it's not a SF)

I was really huffing and puffing up temple hill this morning.  Quad is feeling better.  I've been stretching like a crazy person.

It was a perfect Utah fall day.  Cloudy and brisk with leaves on the ground.  Favorite kind of day!
