Favorite Running Quotes:
1.
"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.
Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.
A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."
~Nike Poster
2. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
You’ve no doubt heard this. And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape. You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.
But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal. If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.
You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time. And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

So our fire alarms went off from 10pm to 4am every 30 minutes. Since they have a CO2 alarm in them, we call the fire department and ask what we should do to get them to stop. Right then, they went off again. SO AFFD sent out a fire car, ambulance, and fire truck. It was quite the scene. Luckily, no CO2 in the house...just defaultly alarms. When we were allowed to come back in the house, my alarm clock was going off. I promptly turned it off and crawled back into bed. I went to the gym after hubby got home from work and did 3 miles on the stair climber.

37: something 60/60/60 planks 20 sit ups in between Right lower leg feels funny - too much pushing the sewing machine peddle. I have to sew 400 skirts by mid-January. I might be going crazy.

| 64:30 TM miles I missed my weight lifting this morning....I was just too tired to get up. But I got my 7 miles and home in time for hubby to leave. I remember saying this summer while training for SGM, "I never thought I would say that 10 miles is easy". 7 miles was hard this morning :)
I was talking with my SIL last night (who is a rock star runner) about being such a slow runner. I'm ready to be fast...but I guess we all want to be fast. Who wants to do the work is the main question?

| 34:11 TM miles -up 12mph, down 10 mph
started at 6.4 - up to 12 (7.6mph) for the last .25 - down 10 (6.6) for .75 miles, up to 7.8 for the last .25, - down to 6.8 for .75, up to 8.0 for the last .25, up to 7.0 for .75, up to 8.2 for the last .25. I felt super on my run today. I've had a lot of stress (sewing 400 skirts by mid January) and I guess I really needed to let off a lot of steam! My breathing felt very controlled and comfortable. Legs felt fresh (well a bit tired from the lifting first, but fresh for a day of rest).

Just running this morning. It was nice and easy, but m right IT band is really bugging. Funny....I've been really diligent on my foam rolling, so I am not sure what is causing it. Dumb.....

| 3x 10 squats on Smith Machine 10 sits on Smith Machine 20 dips 20 sit ups 10 x adductors 10 x abductors Since the TM shuts off after 60 minutes, I decided to do two 4 mile runs. After my first 4 miles, I shut it off, got water, ate a few Jelly Beans. Then ran another 4 miles. 1:12:52 9:21, 9:25, 18:28, 9:12, 9:04, 8:54, 8:24 I felt good...controlled breathing. My left hip and IT band were bugging (this is where I had hip issues after SGM and had my cortisone shot). Sweaty mess.

| This is my easy peasy week. 3 easy miles everyday and a long run on Saturday. I totally was lazy and didn't make it to the gym yesterday. My IT Band is still really bugging. Stupid. My run felt ok, but once I was done it really started to hurt. I foam rolled so hard today, that my outer thigh is totally bruised.

| I LOVE rest weeks! I looked up a few exercises I could do to help strengthen my hip (and hopefully my ITB). So I got on the pulley machine today and did: 3x 10 pulling the handle with my foot in each direction (side to side and front and back). So a total of 4 exercises. Adductor, Abductor, Hip Flexor and Glutes. Then I did a one-legged squat (3x10). Those babies are HARD!!! I could only go down a few inches. I need to work on them a lot! 3 miles on the TM...nice and slow. Lots of foam rolling and stretching. I think I bruised up my leg more after today's rolling session.

| 3 x 10 abductor on the pulley machine 10 adductor on the pulley machine 10 hip flexor on the pulley machine 10 glutes on the pulley machine 10 (on each leg) one legged squat (still not easy) 3 miles on the stair climber lots of foam rolling and stretching So my right hip and knee are on FIRE. I'm not sure if it is sore from the weights today or if I've done something to it. I get really irritated when I am trying to PREVENT injury by lifting and am getting injured in the process. Ughhhh..... Rest week is over....sigh....long run tomorrow...I got my hotel in SG for the SG Half. I hope I can run 13 miles (I remember when that didn't seem that far).

My first 5 mile run seem to take forever....isn't that always the case though! Stopped, got a drink, ate a few jelly beans and started back up. I had controlled breathing over the whole run. My right hip started to really ache. The same kinda ache that happened during SGM. Still not sure if it is from the hip exercises I've been doing or I really did something to injure it. Blech..... I stretched really good after and foam rolled. Ice bath when I got home....ice baths are cold in the summer, but FREEZING in the winter!
PM: Stretched and foam rolled again.

My workout totally got messed up this morning. A. I slept in....that is never good. I always feel guilty leaving my kids. B. I had to drop off all the samples for the 400 skirts. She called at 7:50am and needed me in Orem by 8:30am. I was still in my jammies being lazy in bed. But she was 20 minutes late. So I didn't get to the gym till after 9:00am. WAY too many people for my liking! I decided it is time to put on my big girl running shoes and do some speed work. I asked RAD about all her speed work. So I decided to do the 1 min hard/1 min easy. I needed 4 miles today, so I did a 1 mile w/u and 1mile c/d and 2 miles of hard/easy. I did my hards at 9.5mph and my easys at 6.3mph. It was definitely hard. I started when the timer on the the TM said 10 minutes and did the speed until I got a little over 3 miles. My last hard I did at 9.8mph in honor of RAD since she can't run (I about barfed too :) ). 33:18
Lots of stretching and foam rolling. More sewing today.....

I woke up at 5:00am and started freaking out that I wasn't going to get all my 400 dresses sewed in time. I couldn't fall back to sleep. So at 6:00am, I got up and went to the gym. I almost hit my neighbors Christmas tree because it was blowing all over the cul-de-sac. I struggled the first few miles....had a hard time getting into a groove and realizing HOW many miles I had left. Ughhhh.... I broke up the run into a 6 mile run - water/gu chomps - 5 mile run. My hip started hurting around mile 8/9. When I'm done sewing all this madness, I'm going to the chiropractor and maybe to get another cortisone shot.
