Favorite Running Quotes:
1.
"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.
Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.
A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."
~Nike Poster
2. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
You’ve no doubt heard this. And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape. You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.
But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal. If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.
You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time. And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

| It was a beautiful morning - there was a full moon and it was really bright. The only downside was that big piece of chocolate cake I ate last night (from Magleby's too) - it sat like a rock in my stomach!

| 4 miles on the treadmill at the gym (too cold to go outside). Not as many DUDES at 5:45am (guess they need their beauty sleep!). I want to get my weight down to 130 lbs but not going to start hardcore until after the holidays (just being realistic :) ).

| Too sleepy to get my hiney out of bed this morning ( I took a nap too today!!!). Thankfully, hubby got home from work early and I was able to get my run in while the sun was still up (just barely). I felt so much stronger and faster today than all week. Maybe I just needed to burn off alittle "my kids are driving me crazy" steam. 4.3 miles - 39 minutes

| It was 12 degrees this morning at 6:30am. Ran 6.5 with Sarah. My legs were cold the entire time - I'm worried about adding another layer - will I even be able to move? Had a really great run and it was fun to catch up with her. With this cold weather, I feel like I run so much slower and my lungs are on FIRE! Hopefully, I just need to be out more and I will get use to it! 6.5 miles 1.05 hours Wal-mart/trail loop

| Ran on the treadmill at the gym. The best I've felt in 2 weeks - kept picking up speed the entire run.
I watched the most hilarious episode of "My Name is Earl" - I usually don't watch that show, but it had Napoleon Dynamite on it. They were grocery baggers and went to a bagging competition. Definitely made the time go by fast! How do I kick my really gross habit of a Cherry Coke and Granny B's cookie everyday? I love them so, but the calorie intake is ......out of control...... 6 miles - 55.58 minutes

| 1 degree outside -- oooooo.....that is cold!
I want to start doing some speed work next week and I'm thinking I will be on the tread mill. I've never done speed on the Milly, so with that being said, here's my dumb question: do you hop off the TM after each 400/800/etc or do you just slow down the speed? I'm braving the chilliness tomorrow and heading outside for a long run. I hope I don't get hypothermia

| Holy smokes - it was such a beautiful run this morning! We had about 3-4 inches of fresh powder and the temperature was much warmer (20 degrees). I don't understand why people want to drive SO close to the edge of the road. I totally got splashed with yucky, dirty snow. But it was well worth it once I hit the trail. I definitely ran slow - I felt like I was dragging snow the whole way. I am sore this evening - it was so much harder than a regular treadmill or no snow day. I will sleep well tonight!

| This was my first speed workout since August AND my first speed workout on a treadmill. I've always had a hard time with speed - mostly the mental toughness of hurting and "going to the next level". It took me awhile to figure out what speed I needed to be at - next time I will start at 8.2 and work up.
1 mile warm up 5x400 1-2 min - speed level 7.6 2-1.38 - speed level 8 3-1.37 -speed level 8.2 4-1.37 - speed level 8.5 5-1.35 - speed level 9 1 mile cool down

| I had a hard time getting moving, but finally got my 6 miles in on the tread mill. One thing I hate about the treadmill (besides the fact I'm running in place) is that I sweat SO much. I totally soaked through a towel today. Urghhhh.... yuck! I took a long nap this afternoon and finally feel human again. I think I am taking tomorrow off - my hubby will be at the temple before work, I'm swaping babysitting with a neighbor, helping in my triplets class, and dance recital after school. I'm ok with taking a day off, finally got some drugs for my sinus infection. Plus, I'll be able to sleep in! 6 miles - 56.05 minutes

| I wasn't able to run until right before dinner (I was a sleepy head the morning). I got a new pair of shoes today and I felt like I was floating on air (now I need to figure out how to use the shoe tracker). I had 2 bad parts to my run: 1. I ran through a HUGE puddle (it was dark and I couldn't see well) and got my brand new shoes wet. 2. I leave my water bottle under a street light at the end of the cul-de-sac. Some neighborhood punk swiped it. It was my favorite water bottle! My splits were: 1.1 mile - 10.34 minutes
.8 mile - 7 minutes
1.1 mile - 10 minutes
1 mile - 8 mimnutes .9 mile - 7 minutes .7 mile - 7 minutes 5.6 miles - 49.27 minutes Running up the canyon tomorrow morning!

| Met Sarah up the canyon this morning - 19 degrees and the wind was blowing! Brrrrr.... It was a slow start, but we were rolling after awhile. It is so nice to have a running buddy (even if it is dark, cold, and your lips are frozen and you can't talk). 1st half - 24.36 2nd half - 21.21 Total 45.58 So yesterday when I went to get my new shoes, I recognized the employee from the running club this past summer. He brought me my shoes to try on and I asked him about running. He said, "oh yea, you're that older lady from the track". Ack.....I really did feel old at that moment (even though I'm only 31). Maybe I just need to get faster then I won't seem so old :)

| 3 mile warm up (right calve was super tight) 6x400 (still struggling with getting the right speed on the treadmill - I think I need to start at an 8.8 and move up) My calve loosed up during the speed and I felt good (as good as you feel doing speed) :)

| I slept in this morning because I knew my hubby was coming home early from work - it was fantastic and I felt human all day (verses feeling like a tired zombie)! I wasn't that excited to run 8 miles on the treadmill, but I found a good show and lost rack of time. I looked down at the mileage and it said 4.5 miles - time was flying (average pace 9.20)! I stop to get some water then sped up. I was feeling so great and continued to pick up speed. That mental high can be so empowering! I ended up running my last mile in 7:44. I even lost 2 pounds during the run (but I did come home to eat pizza, so it didn't last :) ). Hubby and I are going to the gym together (a far and few between event) and bringing the kids to the daycare. We have lots of 5-year old Christmas cheer at our house! 8 miles - 1:11 (this past summer when I did 8 miles it took me 1:20)

I wish I was on the road today - I think I could have gone faster. Or maybe it is all the Christmas goodness that was slowing me down!

| I ran with one of my favorite running buddies this morning - my sister in law. She's really fast and can "talk and run at the same time" quality. She's AWESOME!!! Hooray for her being in town the next few days. Plus she has a Garmin - I totally need one of those!

Miles - 4.34 Splits (12:03, 11:24, 10:53, 9:55, 3.35 - 10:30 pace) Total time - 47:53 My left ankle has been swollen for the past few days and tender while I run. I'm going to wait and see how it feels after another day or two. The ice does help, but it may need a few rest days.
