Got 8 hours of sleep last night.  My stomach is feeling a little better today, some rumbling and discomfort inside, but at this point I can't focus and worry about that.

I ran 3.5 miles up and 3.5 miles down going up Satterfield Rd.  Very easy run just focusing on good easy control.  Totals 7.12 miles at an overall 7:28 pace in 53.15 minutes .

I formed rolled last night to loosen up the legs, and I 'm also getting a deep massage tonight.  I hope this doesn't make me sore for a couple of days, but it will get the blood loosened up in any of the tight muscle.  This race is going to be fun!!!!!!!!

(Saucony Grid Trigon 4  -  645 miles)  These shoes are still going thanks to Jeff Shadley's advice to purchase them.  Thanks Jeff they've been awesome shoes.

I really like the Sacuony shoes and would like to get a racing flat lighter than my Sacucony Tangent 3 shoes

Lunches - Evening

500 sit-ups and 200 push-ups  Cancelled deep massage didn't want to do it two days before a marathon and end up feeling sore on Saturday.

Great night of sleep 9 Hours!  Ran 4.02 miles this morning at a 7:30 pace.  Easy run to get ready for SGM.  Go Dodgers! They played great last night, but the Cubs are still going to be tough for them to finish off.  Will see how the series continues tonight.

(Saucony Tangent 3  -  346 miles)

Lunch

100 push-ups and 300 sit-ups.  I don't want to do too many more the rest of the week... in fact I'll probably not do anymore till after the race to rest the body.

Intro:

The St. George Marathon Event for me had one weird event after another. The night before the race I never ate dinner until 9pm and I believe that caused one of my issues on race day. Not doing my normal routine really does have an affect going into race day. Sasha, Jeff (his wife), my daughter and me stayed at Steve Hooper’s vacant house which was very nice, but I didn’t sleep at all very much. When we got to the start Sasha, Jeff and I did a warm-up mile and a bathroom stop in the woods.

Weather:

Like everyone in their race report will mention there was a nasty headwind along with a decent rain the whole race so in the beginning I definitely threw out the strategy of a 2:30. As miserable as the race conditions were at the start I just wanted to finish. I ran Boston’s 2007 marathon and I thought this was worst than those conditions.

Start:

The start for me was awful… when the horn blew to start one of the runners behind me clipped my heel and knocked me to the asphalt. I scrapped my hand and knee and someone stepped on my garmin and cracked it (but it works now if I keep it dry). After I got up I got knocked down again on the asphalt on my right hip and right shoulder. When I started getting up again I got knocked down again and landed on my right hip and right shoulder again (KO 3 times). Finally, I was able to get up and start going, but instantly I had a major pain in my right hip/buttocks area and it bothered me the whole race especially when I picked up the pace.

First mile was 6:06 (awful) and I was bleeding all over my hands, and knee and my hip wasn’t being pleasant. But I knew since I wasn’t going to PR because of the weather I might as well just try and finish with a decent time. Mile two 6:05 I was trying to make my way back up to Walter and Jon which was going to take a lot of effort since I was clothes lined three times at the start. Mile 3, 4, 5, I’ll I remember is the pain in my hip from preventing me gong any faster (5:52, 5:51, 5:56). If I dropped my pace it wasn’t as bad. Mile 6 (5:30) I finally caught Jon, and I told him that my hip and shoulder was hurting and had discomfort and I was thinking about dropping out. He gave me some encouragement so I kept going. Mile 7 (5:42) and Veyo hill Mile 8 (7:00). Going up the hill really really hurt in the hip and buttocks area, in fact any hill I went up I had to slow down or the pain was extreme. Probably because the muscles I fell on were being used more. Miles 9, 10, 11 the wind and rain seemed to pick up more and the pace really wasn’t good (6:51, 6:54, 6:51). After mile 11 my stomach was killing and I needed to go deposit un-wanted goods (brown code). I took a honey stinger gel at mile 10, but I think my meal preparations the night before caused issue because of eating so late. I also vomited up yellow stuff 5 times. The bathroom break took over two minutes and I was now way behind the FRB pack (Jon, Walter, Cody James etc). The bad part of the bathroom break left me alone with no one to pace with and the wind to push alone with. I really didn’t feel bad in the race as far as being fatigue or hitting a wall; my biggest problem was the hip/buttocks and shoulder not allowing me to really hit the uphill’s good or anything else.

I decided the second half of the race (Miles 14, 15, 6:09, 5:45) that I needed to see if I could at least attempt a second half of good luck, but events happened that caused me to lose more minutes. Miles 16, 17, 18 the wind just felt like you couldn’t push the downhill (5:40, 6:11, 6:06) and the hip/buttocks was really starting to become more of a frustration than anything. Mile 19 (7:05) and Mile 20 was a disaster first the wind blew my hat off so I had to run back and grab it. Then I had to stop and tie my shoe that came undone. Mile 20 I dropped my sports bean back that I was trying to open and take. I had to run back and grab the packet. This really cost precious time and was frustrating because my legs felt good other than the throbbing in my hip buttocks and shoulder so I knew I could finish strong. Miles 20 thru 26 I was going to push with what the pain In my hip/buttocks and shoulder would allow (6:27, 6:13, 6:44 (had to tie my shoe), 6:ll, 6:02). I was just glad to be done and see my daughter cheer me at the finish line. I really didn’t care about the time anymore, because I only came here to PR and anything higher than a 2:36 didn’t have any importance to me.

Overall performance:

I felt I could have done easily a 2:39 if I didn't have the brown code the weird knock start and all the miscues of tying my shoe, going back to drop my hat, dropping my sports beans. But almost is not good enough. What I really take out of this is I didn't feel fatigued I felt strong in the end with what the weather would allow. But the hip really hindered the time.

Good year. Not sure what’s left for the year. It was nice to see the bloggers get awards. When mother nature decides to ruin a day there’s really not much you can do to alter and try to get the same performance that you’ve trained so hard for.

The best part of this trip was spending first of all time with my 12 year old daughter and also with Sasha, Jeff and his wife.

Easy 1.56 mile shake out run to see how my hip and shoulder felt.  They are still sore, but the legs are okay.  Not really sore except where I got knocked down at the starting line.  My hand and knee are a little sore where they got scrapped up.  If my hip/buttocks continues to hurt I will get it checked.  I wonder if I should have just dropped out?  Maybe I made it worse.  I would have nevere expected that to happen at the starting line.

I will not run tomorrow and maybe Tuesday either.  I need a good deserved break.

No Running this morning.  My hip/buttocks and shoulder are hurting with some good pain from the trampling incident in SGM.  Slept 8 hours and feeling disappointed and that's pretty much it.g

Evening

120 push-ups and 300 sit-ups.  Running didn't even cross my mind.

Didn't really want to run this morning but I forced myself out the door.  Motivation was low because my trampled on hip and shoulder were still sore and hurting.  But I got out there and ran 5.33 miles  at an overall 7:28 pace in 39.52.  I'm glad I got out there, but I can't get St. George out of my mind!

(Asics Trainers 13 -  438.7 miles)

Evening:

Ran 6.24 miles at an overall 7:09 pace in 44:34 minutes.  This was a great run with no soreness in the hip.  I probably will not run tomorrow because I've got to work late tonight.

I'm thinking about running the California International marathon on December 7, because I can't let SGM be the ending result of this year.  I'm too much of a competitor to let that end the year.

After working till after 1am last night I finally rolled out of bed at 8am.  I really didn't feel like running.  But like my blog title says "I run for fitness".  I did 8:13 miles at an overall 7:32 pace in 1:01.   My body doesn't  feel real sore but the quads I feel a little soreness there.  The important thing is my hip is better.  My knee is black and blue from being trampled on at the start, and my hand is still healing from the cuts.

Still reflecting on the race (SGM):

Overall even if I did get a 2:40 I won't have been happy with that in SGM, because running 2:36 four weeks earlier on a much harder course I was thinking a 2:30 would be doable in SGM.  Weather, weather what more you can say.

I was up a lot last night with our 4 year old son having nightmares.  I wasn't very excited about getting up to run, and not only that the temperature was  32 degrees.    I ran 7.23 miles at an overall 7:41 pace in 55.34 miles.  My quads were a little sore still and my hip from the fall in the marathon was bothering me somewhat today.   I still don't think I need to go have it checked.

I was listening on the radio going to work this morning and they were talking about Provo, Utah. What why you would want to visiit there.  It mad me mad the statements they were making.  They said the best fun or thing you can do in Provo, Utah is leave the city as soon as possible.  Very unprofessional and just plain bad humor.

Lunch:

300 sit-up and 100 push-ups.

Evening:

I ran 4.35 miles at an overall 6:56 pace  in 30:08 minutes.  I ran a little bit faster than I wanted to but I had to hurry to take my daughter to her soccer practice.  I did one mile in 6:32 pace which I'm not proud of because I wanted this to be my recovery week.  When your stretch for  time sometimes you have to make an exception.  I'm always stretched for time after work running somewhere for the kids.

This morning I trained with a friend/cousin "Barry" on the blog that's running the fun Pocatello Half. Marathon on November 1st.  I will be running it also, and try to run a 1:14..  His goal is to run it in 1:30.  This morning I got up at 5am and we drove to the top of the Pocatello Marathon course and ran the back side.  It was around 29 degrees with snow and wind but it wasn't too bad.  We ran 14.04 miles in 1:47 at an overall 7:38 pace ( I exactly ran an extra mile).  Barry is doing a good job and I think 1:30 will be a breeze for him.

I usually don't run on Sunday's  but tomorrow I need to be at work early, because I need to leave early so I will not run tomorrow morning.  I have to take my daughter to Idaho Falls tomorrow for a soccer tournament game at 4pm.  Yesterday they upset the #1 team (Madison girls JH) so they move on in the tournament.  My daughter basically took their star player out of the game by guarding her so well that she couldn't get any offensive penetration.  Maybe while my daughter is warming up I can get a run up there in.

Anyway,  I woke up to snow covered roads and ran on icy, watery, powdered roads.  My feet were soaked by the end of the run.  We got dumped on last night.  Unfortunately it's back to tights, because the temperature was 23 degrees and snow was still coming down.  I ran 8.43 miles at an overall 7:12 in 1:01.

 Evening:

No running this morning.  I went to work real early this morning so that I can leave for Idaho Falls by 4pm to take my daughter to her tournament soccer game.  Maybe I'll run a couple miles while she's warming up for the game up there.  But I did tell myself that I need to take a day off, but it's real hard to take a day off.

I think I have issues with being an addictvie runner where I feel I have to do it everyday or I'll lose my fitness.   I think about how much I'm going to run each day and it does cosume my thoughts a lot.  But I want that last big push for a good marathon to end this year and will see what I decide to do after that.

This morning the temperature was in the high 20's with now wind so it wasn't too bad but still chilly.  I ran 9.40 miles at an overall 6:58 pace in 1:05.  I did my standard Satterfield loop, running up the hill then running back to my house.  I did two pickup miles on the downhill, but not really pushing too hard (5:42, 5:58) and a cool-down mile of 6:34.  First time I've picked the pace up a bit since St. George.  It felt good.

Probably the only run for today.  I don't want to start the high miles again probably for a couple weeks.  I want to make sure the body is well rested something that I haven't done in the past.  My presistent pushing myself to get right back in the groove after a marathon I don't think is a good approach.  I want to get fresh and start with a new motivation for the Marahon in January or December who knows right now.  But I know I want to do another one in the next few months.

After 8 wonderful hours of sleep I got up and it was chilly in the low 20's when I started running.  I ran up Alameda Rd., and zig zagged out of some of those side streets, then ran up Hiline Rd. and turned up Chubbuck Rd.  Then turned on Booth Rd.which merges on Olympus Dr.  Finally down Pocatello Creek Rd. then Alameda Rd. again and back home.  I ran 10.42 miles at a very easy 7:03 pace in 1:13:24.    I wanted a lazy easy run today and that's what it felt like.  Very relaxed fun run.  I don't think I'll be able to get another run in today.  I did do one faster mile but not that fast (6:25).

(Asics Trainers 13 -   469 miles)

Note:  I've been using my wife's Garmin forerunner 301, because mine Garmin (forerunner 205) was shipped for repair.  This is from when someone stepped on it in St.George when I got clothes lined at the start.  There's bubble's of water inside of it, but they said they would fix it for free even though the warranty has expired.  I've had it for 3 years now.  I got mine almost right when they were released for the public to purchase.

Lunch

200 sit-ups and 100 push-up.  Then I went home and road my bike back to work, because it was such a nice day. I road over 3 miles so I'll count 1 mile because it was a hard ride in the wind in the afternoon/evening.

I started getting sick yesterday with a stuffy nose and a small headache and a sour throat so if I was going to feel like running this morning I was going to get to bed early last night.  I was in bed before 10pm and slept close to 9 hours.  I still woke up with a stuffy runny nose, cough and sour throat, but not bad enough for me to not run.

This morning I did 9 hill repeats over our overpass on Yellowstone.  I want to get used to running rolling hills and I thought this was a good start.  I ran 10.31 miles at an easy 7:15 pace in 1:14.  I did push the hill repeats too hard.  This will be my only run today.  I don't want to break my immune system down too much.

I figure whatever flat marathon course I decide to run most of them have hidden rolling hills so today was a good training day for that.  If you really call this a training day.  I feel like I'm still in a post depression St. George Marathon mode.  I can't get that race out of my head.  I'm still astonished all the things that happened to me in just that one marathon.

Still not feeling the best today with a runny nose and a sour throat and coughing.  I did get over 8 hours of sleep again so I'm getting the rest I  need.  I had an early morning meeting today so I was only able to do a small amount of running.   I ran 4.31 miles at an overall 7:14 pace in 31:12.  I taking it easy.  This afternoon I will run part of the Half Marathon course on November 1st with Barry (whose on the blog).

(Saucony  Grid Trigon 4 - 669 miles)

Lunch:

Barry and I ran on the Just Be Cuz half marathon race course.  We took it easy and enjoyed are time talking.  I did leave him the last mile just to have one pickup mile at a 6:36.    I ran 10.33 miles at an overall 7:25 pace.  Barry is going to do very well in the HM on November 1st.  He's very focused and has set a good goal to achieve.  He's really paid attention to the course layout to know what pace he needs to be at.  I really don't have a goal. I'm going to run by feel.

I'm still not feeling the best, my stomach bothered me somewhat in the run, and I felt weak.  I'm getting a deep massage on my legs tomorrow so that will feel good.  I just hope I can get over this sickness fast.  I know everyone is going to say I shouldn't run, but I feel I need too.

We had our Homecoming Parade today for our Idaho State Bengals Football team and my wife had a float in the parade which I ran a 1 mile along side the float at one stretch.

I got a deep massage on my legs tonight and that felt good.  Surprising I didn't have many knots to workout.

This morning was nice, and I was way over-dress (don't know what I was thinking).  I had on tights, long sleeve shirt, and jacket.  I should have just wore a long sleeve shirt and shorts.  I tried out my new Brooks Adrenaline 8 shoes and I like them.  I got them for $5.00 at Barries Sport (regular $95.00 shoes)  from the gift certificate that I received winning the Pocatello Marathon.

My legs felt kind of weird with the deep leg massage I got yesterday, but not weird in a bad way.  I ran 8.63 miles at an overall  pace 7:08 pace in 1:01:30.  Very nice run before church.  I think I'm even going to ride my bike to church since it's such a nice day, and it may be only a one of few left before the cold comes in.

(Brooks Adrenaline 8 -  8.63 miles)

Rode my bike over 6 miles today I'll just count 1.5 miles as running miles.  I was trying to ride as fast as I could to get a good workout.

No running today.  I ran yesterday which is usually my day-offf so I decided to take today off.  I needed a day-off anyway.  The bottom of my left foot underneath my toes has some discomfort not real bad so I though maybe taking today and tomorrow off would be good.  Since the St.  George marathon I only took off one day.  I need to have some type of excitement for running again anyway,  maybe I can find that with a dayoff.

I ate bad yesterday  (two doughnuts, cupcake, two hamburgers, 10 oatmeal cookies, Cinn. Roll, cand bar, red licorce and more)  weight 136 pounds.  For some reason I wanted to snack all day long.  Maybe watching the Cowboys made me depressed.

This morning we had 30mph winds and the temperature was 36 degree.  I bundled up and headed out and ran  10.52 miles at an overall 7:08 pace in 1:15.   The run was smooth, and I had a lot of energy.   I was considering taking the today off from running to get more inspired, but I wanted the exercise.  I did my standard Satterfield Rd.  loop.  For some reason I've been down lately, so I need to prep-up a little bit.  Ran two pickup miles 6:27, 6:27.

Note:  I got my Garmin back today and they sent me a brand new one and I didn't have to pay a thing.  God has blessed me on this one.

 Lunch

I could have ran on my lunch hour today but I was unmotivated and the wind was blowing strong.   In my office I did 300 sit-ups and over a 100 push-ups.

Very cold morning at 20 degrees I really had to bundle up warm.  Last year I had more weight on me so I think this year I'm going to hate the cold.  I ran 10.61 miles at an overall 7:09 pace in 1:15.  Mostly flat course;  I ran out by highway 30, then down Yellowstone Rd. then where ever I could think to go to extend the run out.  Really no sort of training on this run I just ran by feel.

Lunch:

Thought about running on my lunch hour, but I had a nasty headache, because of lack of sleep.  We had a gunmen running around our neighborhood last night that the police were trying to catch.  At one point he was in our yard, so my wife and I were up because the Cops were everywhere.  By midnight they still didn't have him in custody yet.  We didn't want to go to bed knowing that someone's running around the neighborhood with a gun.

Anyway,  I did 300 sit-ups and 200 push-up in my office at lunch.   I needed the rest from running anyways and don't need to pile on the miles this week.

I ran 11.10 miles at a 7:20 pace in 1:21 on a cold chilly morning at 20 degrees again, but there was no wind which was good.   I went up Buckskin Rd.  than over Hospital Way then down Jefferson st. and then I turned on Wayne St. then back to Yellowstone St then down back home on Mckinley St.  Very good hilly route.  I did pickup miles on the downhills but only a 6:13 pace for one of the miles then a 6:57.  Just ran by feel, as far as speed work goes I haven't done any to prepare for next week's Half Marathon.  Oh well maybe I can get some in tomorrow.

Really don't care what I run the Half Marathon in... I may run it for fun and pace my friend Barry to PR at 1:30.  I'm not sure yet.  The batteries for training right now are not charged.  I just want to run to run.

This morning it was 18 degrees when I started running after 9 hours of sleep last night.  I wanted to run some faster miles.   It was really cold to getting the muscles moving today.  But I stuck to the plan and did one warm-up mile at 7:20,  then wanted to decrease that down at least 45 seconds of for the next mile (6:20).  Now I decided to do two tempo miles:

5:57 -  The wind was blowing and my muscle were started to get warmed up.

5:50 -  Not bad feeling pretty good

6:37 -  slowing down after the two mile tempo.

6:10 -  thought I would pick it up again a bit.

Only did 6.22 miles at an overall 6:23 pace in 39:46 minutes.  I plan on running 6 miles on the HM course on my lunch hour with Barry.  Very busy day at work (back to back meetings).

Lunch:

Barry and I ran the Pocatello Just Be Cuz  Half Marathon course today.  He ran close to 7 miles and I ran 8.11 miles at an overall 7:02 pace in 57:04.  I pushed him a bit to get some faster miles in.  Barry's doing great and will do good next week.  The cours has a lot of rolling hills so it will be interesting even for me.

Last night I started not to feel very good and it showed today.  I was going to run with Bill Mander and his friend today at 6am (sorry), but I slept 10 hours and got up after 9am.  I can't remember the last time that I wasn't up before 7am on a Saturday to run.  I still wasn't feeling good but I decided to go for a run.   At mile 13 I hit the wall my head was spinning, I was weak, I dressed way to warm, and to top it off I ran a mostly uphill course.   I survived the last two miles and ran 15.11 at a 7:13 pace in 1:49.  I felt like a brick and sick pretty much the whole run. My fastest mile was on a downhill at 6:14, but I really didn't care about my spilts today.  I ran from my house, down Pole Line St., up Chubbuck Rd, then up a dirt trail that leads all the wayto Satterfield St., then down Pocatello Creek Rd and back home (after zig zagging through some streets).

After I take my son to tee ball today I'm doing nothing the rest of the day until church tonight.  We have a three day conference which we got home late last night.  My wife is also sick so were a lovely couple today.

After being sick like forever and still not feeling the best I stayed home from work today. I had a terrible headache and didn't get to sleep last night until after 3am (stayed up and just did job work). After I took two Tylenol PM  that killed me and I finally got some sleep.

When I woke up I did feel a lot better so much better that I decided to run. I ran 7.11 miles in 6:51 pace in 48:43. My legs were real fresh, but I still don't feel the best. The fun half marathon this weekend I have no expectations when I run it since I've been sick and don't feel like I got the training in to see what I could do in a HM since I've never ran one. I'm probably going to run it for fun. Nice day not too cold. I ran three miles in the 6:3ish range. I actually enjoyed not running for two days.  I've got a lot going on in my life right now and running a good HM not a worry at all.

Last night I got over 9 hours of sleep.  I started getting another headache again, but not has bad so I took a Tynenol PM and that knocked me out.  I was still tired for the run this morning.  I wanted to do a couple faster miles to prepare for the HM this weekend, but my body didn't have it in me today.  My immune system is slowly building back from this sickness.  But I did get in a decent run of 8.22 miles at an overall 7:02 pace in 57:54 minutes.  I did run some faster miles towards the end of the run (6:41, 6:47, 6:59, 5:59).  Taking the day-off yesterday really did help.

I'm no where near ready for this HM this Saturday and don't have a clue how I will do.  I don't want to break my immune system down again if I push too hard sense I still don't feel 100%.

Lunch

Did 400 sit-ups and 120 push-up and felt really fatigue and weak.  I'm trying to figure out what carbs I should be eating to build my immunes system back up and prepare for the Half on Saturday.  I've been sticking with whole grains, cereal, fruits.

Evening

Ran a little bit with my son, probably .2 of a mile.

Man! I'm having issues this week.  I woke up this morning with a sore throat, and I also could not get off the toilet (you know what I mean).  After my run the middle part of the bottom on my foot is still somewhat sore and I had some sharp pains in it on the last mile of the run.  Maybe someone is telling me I shouldn't run this fun Half Marathon.

The run did go well and I took it easy 10.21 miles at an overall 7:24 pace in 1:15.  The fastest mile was very slow at 6:24.  I did my standard Satterfield hill loop.

Lunch:

100 push-ups at and 300 sit-ups  lots of fun.  I'm moving in a new office back on the Idaho State University Campus which is a mile from where my office is now so I've been busy packaging.  Our whole Informational Security and Operating System section is moving in new offices that they just build for us.

After over 8 hours of sleep last night I finally got up a little bit before 7am.  I did  5.63 miles at a very easy 7:21 pace in 41.22 minutes.  Cut the run short to be somewhat fresh for the Half Marathon tomorrow.  I woke up with a sore throat and a clogged nose, and still have the fatigue factor from being so sick from the previous days.  I'm not prepared for the Half Marathon tomorrow so I'll just go out and run it for fun, and maybe pace my friend.
