After working till after 1am last night I finally rolled out of bed at 8am.  I really didn't feel like running.  But like my blog title says "I run for fitness".  I did 8:13 miles at an overall 7:32 pace in 1:01.   My body doesn't  feel real sore but the quads I feel a little soreness there.  The important thing is my hip is better.  My knee is black and blue from being trampled on at the start, and my hand is still healing from the cuts.

Still reflecting on the race (SGM):

Overall even if I did get a 2:40 I won't have been happy with that in SGM, because running 2:36 four weeks earlier on a much harder course I was thinking a 2:30 would be doable in SGM.  Weather, weather what more you can say.

I think doing 2 full marathons so close together alone is testament enough to your stamina. In short what I've found is that as runners we are always looking to improve and always quick to judge our past races with disdain. I know I come from a different perspective because I know I will no way ever even have a shot at a marathon within 30 minutes of your finishing time. However I still believe that your racing this year has been consistent, strong, and you take something away from each race. You raced your heart out in less than ideal conditions. That's my two cents on it anyways.

Ben - Thank you! It's very hard to walk away from a marathon knowing your training was good enough to have a better performance. But you can take only what mother nature gives you. I have to realize sometimes you can't be in control of everything.

Kory, hang in there! I've noticed you comment a couple times, "I know all things happen for a reason." We may not know exactly why, but I'm sure it will contribute to your improvement as a runner and perhaps even as a person. You have inspired many with your success and I trust you will continue to do so. Can't wait to see the results of some of your future performances...good luck!

Kory, even as damaged goods you are an inspiration and an example in recovery. Keep it up, get completely healed.

Kory, After a period of not really training for a while I have a fresh perspective on this. You were only 4 wks out from another marathon, Bad conditions to boot, month after month of hard training etc. Give yourself a break for the next while and maybe express yourself in another avenue. I know that every time I do I whether self imposed or not I come back even better and not just performance wise. But also as a human being who has a renewed sense of joy and appreciation for what God has given him. Good luck Kory and thanks for the support. Your a real credit to our sport. Steve.
