Russian champion tries Crocs, commits to racing a marathon in them

Nikolay Chavkin in the video below did 3x1000, first two in Adidas carbon-fiber models, the last one in Crocs. Surprised by the result (2:52, 2:52, 2:50) with the fastest interval done in Crocs, he committed to racing a marathon in Crocs if the video gets 42K likes and 195 comments (for 42 km 195 m, the marathon distance). Nikolay's current marathon PR is 2:14:00. The video was created by a Russian sporting goods store chain. Their moto is "more sports - brighter life", which we think is wonderful, and also deserves a Like. If you want to see a fast marathon in Crocs, go to the video and click the Like button. Tested the calf on an easy two mile run over to the Bridge and back. First mile over 8:50 second mile back 8:30. Nice and easy, still some soreness.

Did a loop which I will call the La Verkin 5K loop. This is a route I do quite often and well it pretty much loops around the perimeter of our little town. I ran over past Beecher's, up to 100 East, then past Farmer's and back on 300 West. Again today I ran real easy, as my calf is still tender, but I was able to run further and a bit faster than last night. Total time 24:13 for a 7:49 average

Club run 6.8 mile loop out on Snow Canyon Parkway to the ball fields, then over to Lava Flow and back on Sunset. Took it easy the first two miles warming up the calf, then worked to hang with Hooper, Olsen, and Rich. Once on Sunset I slowed down a bit. But overall, a pretty good run considering my calf injury. It happened just over a week ago, and seems to be getting better, but still tender and so I'm trying to be cautious. Average was 7:33 pace.

I've had a headache all day and I really struggled even running 4 miles this afternoon.  My calf seemed to be hurting more than yesterday, so I took it real easy.  I ran up to the ball field and back.

Didn't run again today, still a lot of soreness in my calf, did massage it pretty good tonight.  We bought a used jogging stroller tonight over in St. George, so hopefully it will work for Sunny and she can get in some miles outside, rather than on the dreadmill.

Did my La Verkin 5K route in 22:09 which was a 7:09 average. Last week I ran it in 24:13 for a 7:49 average. Calf muscle is still tender and limiting my training. Did 1 mile cool down easy.

Busy day and evening. I was able to do a nice 6 mile loop over to Hurricane, past the Chevron then south to 400 South and back home. Average pace was 7:29 not bad considering the calf still hurting and the very strong headwind for 3 miles, plus the hill going into Hurricane and then the hill coming back. I really felt like I was leaning forward to battle the wind, almost felt like I was Jose.

Shortest mileage I've ever recorded. I jogged a half mile over to watch Jansen's soccer game at La Verkin Elementary.  The entire way over my calf was really hurting, so when the game was over I scrapped the rest of my run and just came home plopped down on the couch and watched the Jazz game.  Sunny tried to workout some of the knots in my calf, but I think it might be time to call April.

I went over and watched the run for kids race this morning. I jogged down to the 2 mile marker and cheered people on there, then ran over to the highway and finished the last two miles uphill with the wildbull. 5.6 miles of running, calf still felt tight but I managed. Sunny is wanting to go out this afternoon and do the La Verkin 5K loop, so I'll probably go with her and try pushing Jarren in the stroller.

Terrible run today. Hot, windy, and stomach issues. I ran 3 miles out to the Toquerville Cemetery and then 3 miles back home. Going out I felt ok, but coming back it turned more into a walk session between the calf problems and the stomach issues I was wondering what I was even doing out there

Much better run today. Funny I ran 6 miles again today but was 20 minutes faster than yesterday. I ran up past the substation out on 600 North trail then turned off and did .5 mile in the reserve. Going out was battling the wind, but coming back was nice. Overall average was 7:30 with the last two miles being 6:47 and 6:45

Nimbus- 114 I still really dislike these shoes.

Rode my bike to work this morning. Planning on doing some miles after work. Ran 6 miles out to Toquerville. Average 7:49 mostly uphill and into the wind. I met up with my parents who were coming into town from Colorado so I hitched a ride home.

Finally a half way decent day of running. I spent much of the weekend on the road traveling. I got back this afternoon from a conference in Salt Lake and went out and did a 7 mile run over to Hurricane and back 54:00 for a 7:42 average. I've been feeling a little sick with allergies or something. Anyway stuffed up nose still bothering on the run, the calf is starting to feel a little better probably 80%, so hopefully I can get back to some more serious training. I've gained a few extra pounds and feel a little out of shape. I got home from the first run and watched the first half of the Jazz game, then went and did 2 easy miles with Sunny and Jarren in the stroller during half time up to the fire hydrant and back.

Good run this afternoon, even though it was pretty warm when I started at 3:30. I think it was close to 80.

Anyway Sunny drove me out to Anderson Junction and I did a two mile warm-up (average 7:26) then I decided I would try a 4 mile tempo run, just to see how much fitness I've lost since being slowed down with this calf injury the last month.

The last time I did this workout was on Feb 2, and my splits went

1-6:15

2-6:24

3-6:16

4-5:53

24:50 overall with a 6:13 average

Today I was pretty happy with my splits considering the heat, coming off an injury, and dealing with a headwind

1-5:53

2-6:10 was ready to stop here, but figured I could go one more mile

3- 6:23 actually felt better right at the end so decided to finish and do one more mile

4-5:55

24:22 overall 6:06 average

Two miles easy home.

Overall good workout and nice to see where I'm at. I still have a long way to go. I wish I could have avoided the calf injury and been in better shape and preparing for the Ogden Marathon, however I think I will just have to focus on the Deseret News Marathon.

Hooray I woke up this morning and actually got up and did a morning run. Actually I was still sleeping through the first two miles. I woke up when I got close to the stake center when I realized I needed to make a pit stop. I find it ironic that I felt tempted to not enter the stake center. You see this is the time and place where people would be playing basketball, which I'm supposed to be avoiding. Anyway, after I finished up in the bathroom I poked my head in the gym and of course they had just finished a game and were playing 4 on 5, so I had to stay and play one game. Played to 22 and I scored 7 pts, not bad considering the 4 week layoff. Anyway after one game, a guy had to leave so I thought it would be a good time for me to take off also. Ran one more easy mile home.

Cumulus-415

Tonight I paced Sunny on our La Verkin 5K loop, she improved her time and ran 29:00 flat exact, but she can give you the details. I just ran along side pushing Jarren in the stroller. Both last night and tonight he has fallen asleep while in the stroller, so apparently he doesn't mind going for the run. After we got home, I went by myself and ran another 2 miles up past the bridge and back.

Nimbus- 129.5- Not as much blister problems tonight.

2 miles with Steve before running club.  Then real easy 7 miles with the running club.  Bill and Aaron took off, but Steve and I hang back with a new guy Dale, who was running a slower pace.  After 3 miles Steve started a tempo run and I continued on with Dale.  Overall the pace was slower than I wanted to go, but it was still nice meeting someone new and running with them.

Cumulus- 9 I got a new pair of Cumulus, so I guess I can retire my old red ones.  I've really liked this shoe, the last pair I got 415 miles and could probably go a little more if needed.

Did a good job watching my diet today

Breakfast: Oatmeal

Lunch- Burrito, Gatorade

Snack- Banana, Bottle of Water

Dinner- Chicken and Rice

Snack- Nachos during the Jazz game.

Longest run I've done since before the St. George Marathon last fall. Steve, Bill, Ken and Sasha did a loop out on Snow Canyon Parkway, through Ivins and Kayenta, then back on the highway through Santa Clara. I was a little concerned in the beginning as Bill kept pushing the pace. I was really hoping for a slower, easier pace but I managed to stay with the group for most of the run. I did the first 16 1:54:13 for a 7:08 average. The last two miles I took it really easy, as I was beginning to cramp up a little bit. I think my body was wondering what was going on, since I hadn't run that far in quite some time.

1-7:45

2-7:00

3-6:57

4-7:11

5-6:58

6-6:48

7-7:23- Had a little hill climb here and part of mile 8 as I remember

8-7:30

9-7:06

10-6:45

11-6:36

12-6:59

13-6:51

14-6:40

15-7:37 Hard to get going again after stopping for water

16-7:57

Last two miles up Sunset very slow and easy.

Overall pretty pleased I made myself come over and run with the club and I forced myself to go as far as I did.

I only need 2 more miles today for me to meet my goal of 60 for the week. Which I'm feeling good about considering where my training has been the last few weeks with the calf injury.

Cumulus-27 Really liking these shoes so far

Went out and did another easy 2 miles (bridge and back), legs and hips pretty sore from the run this morning.

Basketball this morning. 6 mile easy run tonight, calf felt a little tight and hips are back to bothering me. I think it might be the extra weight I'm carrying in all the wrong places. Anyway the run tonight was decent, just wanted to take it easy and race the 8 minute guy. I ended up beating him by 11 seconds for a 7:49 average. Ran over to Hurricane and back.
