| Didn't start the new year off very good. Still feeling injured. Today I had to help move a bunch of furniture up to my in-laws cabin in Pine Valley, got home late this evening and moved the treadmill back inside the house instead of the garage, which I think might be warmer and more inviting, if running on a treadmill can be inviting? I was going to get in run, but it was late and Sunny was putting the boys to bed. Hopefully, tomorrow I can get in some miles. |

Decent run this afternoon, ran down through Confluence Park, then extended the run down to the new Zion Parkway and over behind the gravel pit. I'm pretty much feeling out of shape. I could not get into any kind of rhythm, well I guess I was in rhythm if you count slow and easy. Weather was pretty nice this afternoon, wore shorts and a long sleeve shirt, no gloves. Cumulus-289 |

Pretty good run tonight with the club. We went out on the bike trail and then down past Snow Canyon High School and back on Sunset. The first two miles I was around 7:20 pace mile 3 was 7:12. Then I ran 6:33 and 6:54, so that was good to pick it up a little. The last two miles were a little slower running up Sunset. Overall 7:24 pace. Still having hip pain and feeling out of shape and overweight. DS Trainer-208.5 |

Made it out to basketball this morning, so that was good to at least get out of bed. I shouldn't be as busy after school today, so I'm planning on running between 4 to 6 miles. Ran from the La Verkin Overlook, down the twist into La Verkin past the city park and then home 5.5 easy 7:25 avg. I did this route because La Verkin City is wanting to host a road race Easter Weekend. The plan they want is to do a 10K (out 3.1 miles and back) starting at the city park running up the "twist" state road heading toward Zion. However, I think a 5K or a 4 mile race might be more appealing. Especially if you dropped people off up at the top and just let them run downhill, that would have the potential of being a very fast 5K. However, I actually like the idea of running a 4 mile race, which would actually have people starting at the very top of the La Verkin Overlook. In my opinion it would be kind of a cool place to hang out and stretch before the race, being able to look over much of valley below. Anyway, if anybody reading this blog has any ideas please let me know. Also today was the last run in my orange Asics Nimbus, they now have over 400 miles and have been a lot better shoe than I thought they were going to be. At first, I hated them (they seemed too heavy), but over time I actually found them to be pretty comfortable and a good training shoe. |

Pretty good run with the club. We had a large turnout tonight and some good conversations. Ran the first 5 miles at an average of 7:12, then the last two up Sunset a little slower. Still having quite a bit of hip pain, but tomorrow night is the night of pain with Steve Starley and my first deep tissue massage. If I don't survive it was nice knowing all of you! Did an ok 10 miler after work. Ran out on 600 North trail, stopped at the #13 hole for water, then headed over to the state road back into Hurricane and home. I didn't feel real great during the run, but was glad to get in the miles. Cumulus-299 Well, I survived the deep tissue massage with Steve. It actually felt really good and I think he was able to get a lot of the tight spots out. My IT band was really tight, which has probably been causing the pain in the hips and groin. Anyway, I'm interested to see how I feel the next few days. I don't think I will be at the club run tomorrow and I'm actually thinking of only doing the 5K race instead of the half next week for Painter's. I just don't feel ready or in shape to run a decent half right now. Maybe I can run the 5K and then pace some people the last few miles.

Ran 4 easy miles out to Hurricane Intermediate to watch Jordan's basketball game. The hips and legs seem to feel a little better now that I had a massage. I think one of the keys for me, will be to develop better stretching habits. I hit 30 miles this week, which was better than last week, but I still would like to build up to around 50 for a few weeks and then 60's and 70's in preparation for the Ogden Marathon. We'll just have to see how things go.

Good start to the week, even though I had to head out for the run at 6:30 pm. I was just going to do an easy 5 miles over to Movie Gallery to return a DVD and then back home, but since Movie Gallery is close to Hurricane High School I decided to continue on over to the track and do a few 800s at Marathon Pace. 1-3:07 not too bad, easy 400m recovery 2-3:04 not trying to push it, still need to ease into any speedwork, and build more of a base
3-3:03 hip and legs feeling pretty good 4-2:56 decided to push it a little more, not bad considering I'm pretty out of shape Easy 2.5 miles back home. I'm still feeling it would be better to run the 5K race this Saturday instead of the half marathon.

Good run with the club, even though I didn't feel that great tonight. I did two miles before I left with the group. Half way through the run I stopped and stretched a bit, and then I ran one mile in 6:22, the rest of the way wasn't too fast. I'm a little nervous for the 5K race on Saturday, I still don't feel like I'm any kind of shape to be racing, but I guess we have to start somewhere. Overall average 7:42 DS Trainer-231 |

Went and played basketball this morning, good workout. The runs this week have felt ok as far as my hip pain, a little tight and painful when I woke up this morning. I would really like to get over these little nagging injuries. Looking forward to the dinner party tonight. 6 Easy miles tonight, however the cold wind made the run seem pretty hard. Went from house over to the Chevron in Hurricane then out to 400 South and back home. Cumulus-313 |

Nothing to get too excited about. I ran the 5K race this morning, which turned out to be a pretty good experience, considering I'm about 10-15 pounds overweight and out of shape. My goal going in was to be satisfied with anything in the 18:00's and not too disappointed with anything slower since I feel like I'm just starting up again. Anyway, I did a 2 mile warm-up to be sure my legs and body were awake. Then I watched the half start and took off my warm-ups and became to really enjoy the nice crisp temperatures. 1- 5:55 Didn't get out too fast, I think I figured I was in 10th place the after the first mile 2-6:18 Not a great mile, but did pass a high school kid. 3-6:05 Passed another high school kid and closed the gap on another high schooler that had been ahead of me since the second mile. .01-:28- No real kick or speed today, just took it easy to the finish 18:48 average 6:03 Asics Speedstars-64 I took 8th overall and 3rd in my age division. I was actually surprised I didn't think the 5K would have quite the competition that it had. Overall, I'm glad I at least attempted to do a race and now I have a starting point and we will just continue to move forward the next few months. The hips and legs felt pretty good, no real pain which is a good sign. After the race Bill, Lindsey, and I jogged out about 2 miles and watched the leaders for the half come in. That was fun cheering people on. Reminds me of a good quote. "We can't all be heroes because someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by." - Will Rogers Anyway, Logan and Nick had a good battle going on and Sasha come along looking pretty strong. I sang a little of the Bingo song to get him going and then Dave showed up not far behind Sasha which was a good sign. Encouraged Dave to go after him, which he did. Nice race Dave! Bill and I watched many other bloggers come by which was lots of fun. Mike and Steve looked pretty good when they came by and we were going to run back with them, but then we decided to wait for Marcie to come along. We ran the last 1.5 miles with her and she did an awesome job finishing up. After I got my award I came home and did another 1.5 mile to make it 10 for the day, not great but this week was better than last, and last week was better than the week before so hopefully things will continue to get better.

10 mile out and back run this afternoon. I went out just past Toquerville, then back home. Going out was 39:50 7:58 average. Coming back I decided to push the first 3 miles at what would probably be close to my tinman tempo pace with the shape I'm in right now. 1st mile 6:49, second mile 6:50, 3rd mile 6:36 quite a bit of good downhill. Finished with a time of 37:40 so 2:10 faster than going out. Anyway, a good workout and start to the week. Hip was tight during and after the run. Cumulus-323 |

Played basketball this morning, had a difficult time getting out of bed and moving around. Hip issues again, not fun. Would like to do an easy 6 miles after work, we'll see how much time I have. Did a 7 mile run which was a new route to me. Went over to Hurricane then up the state road heading toward Page, then I got on and ran down the Hurricane Canal for about a 1.5, went back inside some rocks exploring, then came out on 1000 South. The pace was very slow, I'm still struggling with the hip but able to manage running if the pace is not too fast. I do feel like I'm getting in a little better shape and the weight I gained the last few months is slowly starting to come off. DS Trainer-238

Two good runs tonight. First was a 4 mile warm-up before going with the running club. I went from the store down Diagonal then up Main street good short hill climb there! Then back to the store and extended just a little to get in 4 miles. DS Trainer-242 Did the standard club loop. We had another good turnout, and good conversation. The pace felt pretty good, I was surprised I was able to keep up a little better this week than in the past. I did slow down some once we hit Sunset, but some of that was due to my feet hurting a bit. I was breaking in a new pair of Asics Nimbus and could feel some blisters coming on, nothing to serious as I made it back to the store before they got too bad. I think I'm really going to like these Nimbus once I get them broke in. Right now I have 242 miles on the DS Trainers and around 330 miles on the Cumulus. I haven't really like these DS Trainers as much as the previous model, so I probably won't buy another pair of them for awhile. The Cumulus have been a good shoe, so I might get another pair of those. Anyway, at this point I would say I'm pretty much converted from Nikes to Asics (thanks Steve!) Ok enough shoe talk, back to the running. I feel like tonight was a good workout and I'm starting to feel a little stronger. (7 miles at 7:45 pace) Hope to finish off the week with a few more good runs and be around 50 miles for the week. I think if I can at least do this for a few weeks then I should be ready to bump it up again. Was happy when I got home and weighed in at 149, but still much work to do. Nimbus-7

Easy 5 miles tonight. Ran over to Hurricane High and watched the Boys JV basketball game against SCHS. I had some former students playing for SCHS so that was fun to watch. The run felt pretty good and I only have to run 8 mile tomorrow to hit my goal of 50 for the week. Don't know if anybody saw on the news about the Monte Carlo Casino/Hotel fire today. Ran over to Hurricane High School 2.5 miles, then did a CV workout. I was going to do 5x1000, then after the first repeat I wasn't feeling too good, so I thought maybe only 4, well after the second repeat, I decided hey if I can at least do one more then I'm done. So I ended up only doing 3x1000m with 200m rest/recovery.
1-3:36- feeling ok
2-3:37- feeling bad
3-3:40-feeling terrible Anyway, not a very good workout. However, I have been a little sick the last few days, and with the colder weather this afternoon, I was glad I got out and attempted a workout. I do think with a little more training I will be able to do these workouts and see some positive results. DS Trainer-249

Still feeling like I have a chest cold, so didn't go for too long tonight. 4 is better than nothing, which is what I thought it was going to be until I forced myself onto the treadmill. I've got staff meeting after school, then Driver's Ed for a few hours, and a Scout Court of Honor at 7. Not much time tonight. Last night I raced the 8:00 minute guy on the treadmill and came in tied right at 32 minutes for 4 miles. Tonight, I picked it up a little and finished my 4 miles on the treadmill in 30 minutes, so I beat the 8:00 minute guy by a good two minutes. Nimbus-19

Really good run with the club tonight. I finally felt in good enough shape to extend the run with Dave, Steve, and Mike to make it 10 miles, instead of the 7 mile route I've been running the last few weeks. The first 5 miles felt pretty good, but once we hit the golf course I was struggling and wasn't looking too forward to the next 4 miles uphill, to make matters worse I was feeling some hot spots like blisters coming on and Steve was already increasing the pace. Anyway, I tried to block it all out and just decided to push it for 3 miles and things actually starting feeling pretty good. The last few miles were the fastest of the whole run and they were all uphill, so I was happy about that. I just need more quality runs like this. 10 miles average 7:19

Busy day, but I knew I needed to get in at least 8 miles so that I could hit my goal of 50 miles for the week. After spending much of the day helping my father in-law with a tiling job and listening to President Hinckley's funeral I finally got my run in late this afternoon, and it turned out to be a really good run. Sunny drove me up past Toquerville and I did a two mile warm-up followed by a 4 mile tempo, then 2 mile cool-down. Splits- Warm-up: 7:45 average Tempo 1-6:15 feeling easy, nice downhill 2-6:24 running through Toquerville rolling 3-6:16- I was most pleased with this mile, the first part has some uphill leaving Toquerville, but I really worked the last half of this mile and into the last mile 4-5:53 zoomin' downhill and trying not to get hit by cars, this is a real narrow section of road. Time: 24:50 so a 6:13 average Cool down: easy two miles up the hill into La Verkin and back home. DS Trainer-257 Now it is off to Texas Roadhouse to celebrate Jordan's birthday and a nice way to finish off the week. |

I ran over to Hurricane High and was going to do some 1000m repeats, did one and about coughed up a lung, so I figured better not push it any more. I've been feeling better the last two days but still have a little sickness. I ended up doing one mile on the track then came home, so a total of 6 miles pretty easy. I think I might have to ease into this week. It will be nice on Thursday I only have school for 4 hours, so maybe I can get in a couple of decent workouts.
On my way over to Hurricane there were lots of emergency vehicles near the bridge. Apparently, a five year old boy fell off the cliff somewhere in the area while he was chasing his dog. I stopped and tried to listen in on the story. Anyway, it really upset me the rest of the run. I have a five year old boy along with a 12 year old and an 18 month old and I just couldn't imagine my life without any of them. DS Trainer-263

Very busy day, between parent teacher conferences, driver's education, and then scouts, but did manage to get out at 8:30 this evening. I did 3 miles easy 7:45 avg. Then Sunny wanted to go for a few miles, which was awesome. She has been doing about 30 minutes everyday on the treadmill usually doing a walk, jog routine fastest pace being 12:00 minutes. Anyway we did a two mile run over to the bridge and back. The first mile was in 11:48 which included a short walk across the bridge and we were running uphill. Coming back I challenged her to run at least a minute faster. On the way back we did have to stop for just a bit, but she was able to run the second mile in 10:38, so a 1:10 faster. All in all a good two mile run to finish off the day for her. Nimbus-34 |

Ran with the club tonight. Before I left with the group I did a 3 mile warm-up 1.5 miles up state road 18 on the bike path and then 1.5 back down. 7:50 average. Then did 3 easy miles warm-up and I knew Steve was going to do about 6 miles of tempo pace, and I had been planning on doing about 4 since I haven't done any faster stuff so far this week. I was pretty pleased with the miles I ran at tempo pace. A little disappointed the last few miles as I stopped to get a drink then ran the last bit uphill alone. My legs started to cramp up a bit, but overall a decent run, except for my Hunan's Chinese Buffet from lunch that gave me stomach problems on and off the entire run. Overall average was 7:22 so pretty good. Tempo miles 1-6:07- feeling pretty relaxed
2-6:14- feeling fine
3-6:28- had to slow down a bit trying to get onto the far way at the golf course 4-6:48- some tough hills to climb here, but the effort felt more like 6:15 or faster. I think the 13 miles tonight, is the longest run I've done since November, so that is a positive, still I need to be doing more. I really felt like I had two good weeks, then I got sick last week and took a step back. Anyway hoping to hit 50 miles this week and then maybe bump it up a little the following week. By March I would like to be running at least 60 miles a week, and then 70 miles a week in April. I really think if I can be more consistent this spring it will help me have a better base and routine going into the summer, when I can try to run a little higher mileage maybe. Cumulus-360

Struggled getting up this morning. I was going to go play basketball but my legs and hips felt pretty sore from the run last night. I'm going to try to do around 8 miles this afternoon. Got out this afternoon, after taking a nice hour long nap. Anyway, the wind was just terrible. I ran from the house over 600 North Trail to Sky Mountain Golf Course and down to Brentwood Bowling Alley. Felt pretty tight during the run legs and hips very sore. Averge time 8:14 slow, but quite a bit of wind and taking it easy. Nimbus-42 |

Sasha sometimes shares some of his crazy running dreams, and last night I had a pretty weired one. I was back in Colorado going on a run with my old assistant high school coach, (we coached three years together and got along pretty good) Anyway it was in the middle of winter and we were driving out to this place to run down by the river, and for some strange reason the road just seemed to end and we ended up going into the river. Of course I was pretty scared but was able to kick open the door and swim to the bank. However, since it was winter time I was very cold. When we got out of the water, we both took off running as fast as we could to this nearby warehouse. For some strange reason I had a lighter in my pocket and we were able to start a fire and we just started throwing anything we could find into the fire. The next thing I remember in my dream, was the fact the entire building was now on fire and we were still inside. I wasn't even worried about getting out I was just trying to get warm. Anyway, I do remember once we got out all of these high school kids from our team came running, and told us we had taken the wrong turn and they were ready for us to finish the run with them. I just remember saying hey I need to call my dad first and tell him what just happened. I then asked for a cell phone and this was the funny thing, every high school kid had a cell phone on them, some even had two or three. Anyway, it was a pretty crazy dream. Ok, sorry about rambling now back to my real run today. Club run met and Mike's and drove out on Utah Hill. I haven't done too many long runs and the start of this past week I was still struggling some with sickness, so I figured if I could do at least 12 that would be great, then I will go for 2 more this evening to finish the week at 50. After Thursday's run I was really sore and tight. Yesterday's 8 miles was a struggle, but I spent quite a bit of time stretching last night and even used the stick and this morning I felt pretty good. I ran the first 9 miles in a 7:07 average, with a few miles down in the 6:40's. The last three miles I ran through Santa Clara and slowed down a bit. Overall, a good run, and glad I made the effort to get out and come over, even though I didn't run with anybody (you guys all animals and can run further than me! but someday soon I should be able to hang with the group) Cumulus-372 |

After spending most of the morning drilling holes in the sidewalk with a hammer drill so the scouts could put flags out, I was ready for a run and something that didn't require as much labor. I did an easy 2.5 mile warm-up over to Hurricane High School then 3x1 mile @ LT Pace with 400 m recovery which I figured right now would be around 6:00 pace. 1-5:55 This felt pretty easy 2-5:56-This felt a little bit harder, in fact I thought when I got done with this one that is was probably good enough and could be done with my workout, however I knew I had planned to do three, so I should probably attempt at least one more.
3-5:50- Glad I did this one, once I got into it, I started to feel real good, so I picked it up a little. Did 2.5 mile recovery home. I kind of struggled on the way home, not feeling too good. DS Trainer-272

Pretty good run this evening. Ran on 100 East then up past the green water tank on the dirt trail, up to the top where the La Verkin Overlook turn-off is. The first mile was good, but the next two miles of steady climbing uphill on the trail were more difficult. I came back down on the highway and hit a few miles under 7:00. Finished with an overall average of 7:47. I was planning on just doing 6 miles today, but I still might go out tonight for another easy 2 miles after scouts if Sunny feels like going. Nimbus-49 |

Missed the club run, I have a luau tonight at school, so I did 9 miles this afternoon. I first did a two mile warm-up, then 3 miles at tinman tempo pace. 1-6:23 good flat mile 2-6:33 some uphill 3-6:16 a little downhill. I was glad I was able to do 3 miles, because I really wasn't feeling that good when I got home from work. Anyway, the last 4 miles were pretty slow and easy. I found a new trail or way to get up on the 600 North trail so I guess that was the exciting part of the run. DS Trainer-281

Good 8 mile run this evening, however I'm a little upset at myself that I didn't make it over to run with some of the guys this morning. Anyway, I ran from Steve's house out through the fields then over to River Road and back to his house. I felt ok, not great lots of stomach issues from eating Bajio's for lunch, not too wise on my part. Overall the average was 7:20. Cumulus-380 I didn't meet my goal of 50 miles for the week, but I was pleased with a few of the workouts I did this week. I feel like I'm progressing a little.

I had a terrible headache much of the day, and didn't know if I would get any miles in today. After two hours of driver's ed, I decided I would attempt a workout. My schedule called for 5x Pah Tempe hill repeats (.32m). These would be the first hill repeats of the new year and also turned out to be my first puke session of the new year.

After a two mile warm-up and stretching I started the first one. 1-2:12 pretty good for the first one. in fact probably faster than I wanted the first one to be.
2-2:13 Interested to see if this would be much slower than the first. Turned out to be about the same time. After this one, is when the sickness really hit. On the recovery had to stop and leave my lunch on the side of the road. 3-2:17 Stomach feeling a little better, but overall I was weak on this repeat. Thought about stopping here, but instead just turned around and started my recovery job back down the hill and by the time I got to the bottom, I was ready to go again.
4-2:15 Better focus, but once again had to stop and puke on the recovery.
5-2:17 Weak, but trying hard just to finish. Not the best workout, but glad I hung with it and did 5 repeats. Today was more a mental victory, I had a number of things going wrong and plenty of reasons I could have stopped, but I accomplished what I wanted to today. The cool-down was cut short just a bit 1.5 miles. DS Trainer-287.5

Pretty busy day today. Did 2 hours of driver's ed after school, got home and felt a little sick and tired, same headache problems as yesterday. Anyway went to Young Men's from 7:00 to 8:30, then decided to head out the door at 8:45 pm for some easy miles. I did 3 miles, then came back to the house to see if Sunny was ready to go for her 2 miles, she still didn't have Jarren to sleep, so I did another 2 miles easy, then came back and this time she was ready, we did our route over and past the bridge. Last time she did the mile going over in 11:48, tonight she did the mile over in 10:33 (much faster!) however, I think she over did it on the first mile, and the second mile back home which is downhill and should be easier, was actually the slower mile for her tonight (11:57) Oh well, it was still nice to go for a little run together and it helped me to get in two more easy miles. Tomorrow won't be as busy so maybe I will do a longer run. Nimbus-56 |

Basketball this morning. Decent run this evening. Did the La Verkin Overlook Loop, including the first two miles up the mountain trail which I was dreading, but did anyway. 1-10:50- trying my best to run/jog/walk whatever it took to get up the trail. 2-10:47- more of the same run/walk/jog/wipe off sweat/repeat Had to stop for a bit at the top and of course take in the view, best part of the run you really have a great view of La Verkin, Toquerville, Hurricane. Now the fun downhill miles, just wanting to take them easy. 3-7:20 4-7:25 5-6:30 6-7:00 7-7:55 ran into a fellow teacher and stopped to talk for a minute, forgot to stop my watch so this mile was actually closer to 7:00 minute pace or under. Anyway, beautiful afternoon in Southern Utah. I might do a few more miles tonight with Sunny if she feels up to it. I'm planning on running with the club tomorrow if people are going to be there. Played a few games of basketball this morning. Planning on a track workout this evening after driver's ed. Really good workout tonight. I've tried a few times to do some 1000m repeats but have not been able to do much of a workout, due to either feeling sick or dealing with bad weather. This afternoon, I felt really good and decided before hand that I wanted to do 6 repeats no matter how slow I had to run them. It was kind of nice, I decided not to do driver's ed tonight, so I got home a little earlier and then did a 2.5 mile warm-up over to Hurricane High School. The high school track team was still practicing, but Coach Prince said it wasn't a problem at all if I wanted to do my workout, so that was nice, except for having to dodge kids standing and visiting in lane 1, plus had to watch out for high school kids learning how to throw the javelin. Anyway got started and the first three repeats felt great, 4th one not too bad, but the 5th was kind of a struggle. I was ready to stop after 5, but I just decided to give myself a little more recovery and then really tried to push it on the last one. I was really pleased with the consistency of the repeats and I was right in time zone I was shooting for 3:33-3:38. I did 100 m recovery between each which was about 1:30. 1-3:34 2-3:33 3-3:33 4-3:33 5-3:34 6-3:30 Did two more lap to finish to make it 5 miles on the track, then a very easy 2.5 miles home. Good start to the week and one big workout in the bag.

Another morning at the gym. Planning on running 10-12 tonight after work. Tough run tonight, I drove up to some trails between La Verkin and Virgin and did a 9 mile loop out through the desert. For part of the run I made it over to Sheep Bridge Road then followed that out to the Quary Trail then ran on that for a bit, then came back. I got back to the highway and picked up the pace a little the last two miles. Overall, nice to see some different country and do a new run, but my legs are feeling a little tired now from the ups and downs of trail running. As the guys in the club know I'm usually not a real big fan of trail running.

I wanted to watch the mile race this morning at the Hurricane Track meet, so I didn't go over and run with the club. Anyway, I did an 8 mile loop over the 600 North trail, to Sky Mountain Golf Course, then back on the highway to the high school, watched the meet, then did a 1.5 loop cool-down with Hayden, Karl, and a few of the Timpview kids. Then 2.5 miles home. I'm wanting to go out again this afternoon and get a few more miles in to make it 60 for the week. Stratus- 21 I'm really liking the feel of these shoes. I went out and did 4 more miles this afternoon, pretty windy as I headed up the La Verkin Twist, but was nice coming back down. I was going to do a track workout today, but ran over to Hurricane High School and found Cross Creek working out on the track, so I decided to put my track workout off until tomorrow, which might be fine. I'll run hard tomorrow, then get ready for the 10K race on Saturday. Anyway, after 3 miles over to the high school I was able to flag down my father in-law and had him drive me out to the Brentwood Bowling Alley and I ran 8 miles back into Hurricane over the 600 North Trail. The last two miles I decided to do a tempo, actually a little faster than tempo pace from the substation to my house. 1-5:58 Good mile with some downhill 2-5:51 I thought this mile would be quite a bit slower than the first, since it didn't have as much downhill. Anyway, it turned out to be faster and I felt really good. I was especially happy, since I had already ran 9 miles and I was feeling a little tired. 1.5 hours of basketball this morning, feeling a little tired now. Did a 6 mile run tonight, Sunny dropped me off at the Chevron and I ran out to my school 2 miles easy, copied a bunch of papers for next week when classes start back up then I did 4 miles pretty easy home 7:30 average. Cumulus-394 Had a guy come give us an estimate for a swimming pool today. We are now thinking of not selling our house and not building, maybe just stay put. Build a pool, do some remodeling inside, and put in a nice basketball court with a breakaway rim. I used to spend hours shooting baskets when I was younger, but never really had that nice of a court. I guess now since I'm the parent I might build the court I always wanted as a kid. Actually, I don't want that to sound like I'm complaining, my parents were awesome and I have great memories of growing up.

Good club run, we did a preview of the Spectrum 10K course. Mike was kind enough to drive us up, then we ran down through Snow Canyon State Park. I'm excited for the race, but I'm not convinced it will be any faster than last year's course, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. We ended up finishing at Mike's house which made the run 10 miles, a little farther than I was planning on going and the pace was a little faster 7:20 average, but it is all good. Stratus-31 |

Decent race for me today. I was a little worried going into the race, I didn't feel that great this morning and my legs were still tired from the last few days. Anyway, did 1 mile warm-up up by the starting line, then shed the warm-ups and got ready to race. Quite a few fast guys so I knew it would be a fast race. My goal was to try to run under 36:00 and place in my age division. I was 3rd overall last year, but knew I wouldn't place that high this year with Nick, Clyde and Dave all in the race. 1-5:06 Good first mile and in decent position top 12 2-5:50 Catch up to Ryan and run with him for awhile. We traded off between miles 2 and 3. I passed Lindsey here which made me feel better, he smoked me at Painter's 5K.
3-5:38 Another good mile, however at the beginning of this mile I was ready to just bag the race, I really wasn't feeling too good or having that much fun. Steve Hooper caught up to me and we worked the downhill section together which helped me mentally
4-6:00 Felt pretty good going through the neighborhood. A guy from Vegas that also smoked me at Painter's caught up to me on this mile and then him and I started battling. Steve dropped off just a bit. 5-6:07 Still battling the Vegas guy at this point I figure I'm at least in the top 10. I took the lead for awhile, but couldn't seem to drop him
6-6:10 On this mile, the Vegas guy actually put some distance on me and I really thought I wouldn't be able to reel him in, but I did. It was a nice challenge to the finish, I would pass him and then he would pass me. With about .30 he passed me and I figured it was over, however I just kept pushing it and was able to out kick him at the finish. .2-.59 Overall, pleased with the race, I feel like I'm in quite a bit better shape than a few months ago at Painter's. I ran the first three miles today in 16:35 compared to 18 something a few months ago, granted much of the first three miles is downhill. I ran 35:52 (5:48 average) so I met my first goal of breaking 36 and ended up placing 2nd in 30-34 age group, so I was happy about that. Actually going back and looking at last year's time I was 3 seconds faster, so even with the change of course I think it was similar to last year.
Anyway, the Fast Running Bloggers did quite well. 5 out of the top 10 places. Ohana-
Ran 2 easy miles tonight with Sunny up to the fire hydrant and back. Going up we hit 10:37 and on the way back we were flying 10:02. Actually, my wife is getting in better shape and I think she is targeting the local La Verkin 5K on the 4th of July as her first race in a long time. Even though I think she could run a 5K right now and be able to finish without any problems. The two miles tonight, put me over 60 miles for the week, so I hit my weekly goal again. The next two weeks are going to be a struggle as I am teaching a driver's education course the next 10 days, I guess I might just have to get up early like Dave, Logan and so many others and try to get in some miles in the mornings.

Not much time today. I got home from work at 7:45 pm, had some dinner, played with the kids for 30 minutes. Then did a quick 6 miles over to Hurricane and back. Ran to Wendy's in 24:40 then home in just over 22:00. Sunny and I were going to go and do two more miles, but decided not to. She did 2.5 miles without stopping this morning on the treadmill. Hope to have a little more time tomorrow, but the next two weeks are going to be very busy. Nimbus-92 |

Another busy day, but did manage to have a good workout tonight even though my legs felt tired and sore, I decided to push through a hill workout and figured I would try to make my body learn to work a little harder especially when I'm tired. I know that is probably not the best thing to do and a good way to get injured, but I felt pretty safe in what I was doing tonight. Anyway I started with 2 miles easy warm-up then did 6xPah Tempe hill repeats. Three weeks ago I did 5 repeats and managed decent times. Comparing today, with last week I would say this was a better workout because. 1. I did one more repeat 2. I was still tired from the 10K race on Saturday 3. I was under a little more stress this week compared to a few weeks ago 4. Had to deal with a headwind (imagine that in Hurricane, UT), which slowed me down some. 1-2:17 not too pleased with this first repeat, a little slower than I thought it would be. 2-2:13 picked it up 3-2:14 not feeling very good, but tried to make myself feel better by telling myself I was half way done. 4-2:12 This one felt the best out of all the repeats and I was tempted to stop after this, which would have left me feeling satisfied and happy at the moment, but probably guilty later on 5-2:15 I didn't look at my watch much on this repeat, but I figured I would be right at 2:15 and I was. Gave myself a little extra rest and started coughing a lot, but didn't throw-up, almost but no good stories to share 6- 2:12 Good solid repeat to finish with and now very happy to be done. Did an easy two mile jog home. A half mile into my cool down I ran into my wife, so that was nice she came out to jog home with me. She ran two miles this morning and another 1.5 tonight. I'm almost tempted to just set up a blog for her. She has been running quite a bit more lately which is good. Stratus-38 |

Big zero today. Things were a bit too busy, and by the time I finally got home and really had no desire to run. I know that is not the right kind of attitude, but I plan to hit it hard tomorrow and Saturday. I probably won't hit 60 miles for the week now, but hopefully I'll be around 55. |

Good morning of basketball, lots of running. Planning on doing a tempo run this afternoon. Hopefully a total of 10-12 miles. Didn't do the tempo run, instead did a 10.5 mile loop up along 600 North Trail to the golf course, then back on the Highway to Hurricane, past the park then home. Time 1:23:35 Average pace was 7:57, legs were sore, especially calves. Might do a couple more miles tonight with Sunny. Cumulus-404.5

Not a very good run for me. I was feeling pretty sore and tired from the beginning, struggled the first 5.7 miles on the warm-up and jogged .3 over to the start of the trail then attempted a tempo run on the second lap. I felt my legs cramping up and backed off the pace a little 2 miles into the tempo. I ended the 5 miles with a 6:30 average, so quite a bit slower than I would have liked. I was hoping to be closer to 6:15, but oh well. Sometimes you have to listen to the body. I think I've been under too much stress this week and I'm feeling a little run down. Did another 3.7 miles easy, and I mean very easy and pretty slow. Stratus-53 |

Basketball this morning. Body still feeling sore and tired from Friday and Saturday for some reason. Good workout tonight. I was just going to do an easy 2 miles up and 2 miles back down the La Verkin Twist. But then decided to push it a little and do 3 miles up to the Gun Club and 3 miles back down the Twist. Basically had four goals 1. Don't get hit by a car- I need to get a light or reflective vest, especially for this stretch of road. 2. Don't lose my dinner (I ate a chicken fajita, waited 15 minutes then started my workout) I didn't have time to sit around, still on the tight schedule with teaching the Dr. Ed class. 2. Run the first three uphill under 24:00 anything in the 7 minute average range would be good 3. On the way back try as hard as I can to run under 18:00 Anyway, I'm glad to say I accomplished all 4 goals. Especially glad number one worked out. 1-7:26 Not to hilly running up 300 West 2-7:55 Had to step off the road a few times, dodging cars. 3-8:02 Good effort up the steepest part of the run. 23:23 Turn around reset watch 1-5:42 Nice downhill, feeling pretty good 2-5:49 Starting to worry a little about my dinner right now 3-5:45 This mile was pretty flat so I was happy with the time, but still very concerned about losing my dinner. 17:17- 5:45 average
Got home and talked Sunny in doing a few easy cool down miles. We were going to only do 2, but we ran into some ladies from our ward so we extended our run with them and ended up running 3. DS Trainer-307

| Difficult morning. I was playing basketball this morning and I was going up for a rebound and felt a pop and immediate pain in my left calf muscle. I'm worried I tore a muscle or did some damage, it was very painful trying to walk to my car and I've been in slow gear all morning now. I know the comments that will be coming, because I've already got them from my wife. "You shouldn't be playing basketball." Anyway, hopefully this is nothing to major. Bill I know you had some calf issues, what were the symptoms and remedies? |

Still resting the calf muscle. Went over to the running store this afternoon. Sunny bought some shorts and we ordered a baby jogger. I'm thinking more and more about doing the Deseret News Marathon now instead of Ogden. Sounds like Steve, Clyde and Bill are thinking of doing this marathon, so it might be fun to train for this together. My training has been decent recently, and I think after I get over this minor calf strain I will be ready to increase my mileage some in April, May and June and could really focus on a fast marathon in July. I will be out in Wisconsin for one week in June, and a second week I will be in Salt Lake all week, but should have plenty of time to train. The only week that really looks in question would be July 7-12 when I have scout camp, but I guess that would be a like two weeks before the marathon, so I would maybe be doing a mini taper anyway. Anybody have experience running Deseret News as compared to other marathons? Just went out and tried to run 2 miles easy. I managed to walk/jog the first mile, but pretty much resorted to walking the second mile home. I wanted to test the calf and how much pain I felt and could stand. I was still favoring it quite a bit and it was throwing off my stride so I still need to take it real easy. Nimbus-98 |

Did a loop which I will call the La Verkin 5K loop. This is a route I do quite often and well it pretty much loops around the perimeter of our little town. I ran over past Beecher's, up to 100 East, then past Farmer's and back on 300 West. Again today I ran real easy, as my calf is still tender, but I was able to run further and a bit faster than last night. Total time 24:13 for a 7:49 average Stratus-56 |

Club run 6.8 mile loop out on Snow Canyon Parkway to the ball fields, then over to Lava Flow and back on Sunset. Took it easy the first two miles warming up the calf, then worked to hang with Hooper, Olsen, and Rich. Once on Sunset I slowed down a bit. But overall, a pretty good run considering my calf injury. Busy day and evening. I was able to do a nice 6 mile loop over to Hurricane, past the Chevron then south to 400 South and back home. Average pace was 7:29 not bad considering the calf still hurting and the very strong headwind for 3 miles, plus the hill going into Hurricane and then the hill coming back. Finally a half way decent day of running. I spent much of the weekend on the road traveling. I got back this afternoon from a conference in Salt Lake and went out and did a 7 mile run over to Hurricane and back 54:00 for a 7:42 average. I've been feeling a little sick with allergies or something. Anyway stuffed up nose still bothering on the run, the calf is starting to feel a little better probably 80%, so hopefully I can get back to some more serious training. I've gained a few extra pounds and feel a little out of shape. I got home from the first run and watched the first half of the Jazz game, then went and did 2 easy miles with Sunny and Jarren in the stroller during half time up to the fire hydrant and back. Good run this afternoon, even though it was pretty warm when I started at 3:30. I think it was close to 80. Anyway Sunny drove me out to Anderson Junction and I did a two mile warm-up (average 7:26) then I decided I would try a 4 mile tempo run, just to see how much fitness I've lost since being slowed down with this calf injury the last month. The last time I did this workout was on Feb 2, and my splits went 1-6:15 2-6:24 3-6:16 4-5:53 24:50 overall with a 6:13 average Today I was pretty happy with my splits considering the heat, coming off an injury, and dealing with a headwind 1-5:53 2-6:10 was ready to stop here, but figured I could go one more mile
3- 6:23 actually felt better right at the end so decided to finish and do one more mile 4-5:55 24:22 overall 6:06 average Two miles easy home. Overall good workout and nice to see where I'm at. I still have a long way to go. I wish I could have avoided the calf injury and been in better shape and preparing for the Ogden Marathon, however I think I will just have to focus on the Deseret News Marathon. Stratus-88 |

Hooray I woke up this morning and actually got up and did a morning run. Actually I was still sleeping through the first two miles. I woke up when I got close to the stake center when I realized I needed to make a pit stop. I find it ironic that I felt tempted to not enter the stake center. You see this is the time and place where people would be playing basketball, which I'm supposed to be avoiding. Anyway, after I finished up in the bathroom I poked my head in the gym and of course they had just finished a game and were playing 4 on 5, so I had to stay and play one game. Played to 22 and I scored 7 pts, not bad considering the 4 week layoff. Anyway after one game, a guy had to leave so I thought it would be a good time for me to take off also. Ran one more easy mile home. Cumulus-415 Tonight I paced Sunny on our La Verkin 5K loop, she improved her time and ran 29:00 flat exact, but she can give you the details. I just ran along side pushing Jarren in the stroller. Both last night and tonight he has fallen asleep while in the stroller, so apparently he doesn't mind going for the run. After we got home, I went by myself and ran another 2 miles up past the bridge and back. Nimbus- 129.5- Not as much blister problems tonight.

Longest run I've done since before the St. George Marathon last fall. Steve, Bill, Ken and Sasha did a loop out on Snow Canyon Parkway, through Ivins and Kayenta, then back on the highway through Santa Clara. I was a little concerned in the beginning as Bill kept pushing the pace. I was really hoping for a slower, easier pace but I managed to stay with the group for most of the run. I did the first 16 1:54:13 for a 7:08 average. The last two miles I took it really easy, as I was beginning to cramp up a little bit. I think my body was wondering what was going on, since I hadn't run that far in quite some time. 1-7:45 2-7:00 3-6:57 4-7:11 5-6:58 6-6:48 7-7:23- Had a little hill climb here and part of mile 8 as I remember
8-7:30 9-7:06 10-6:45 11-6:36 12-6:59 13-6:51 14-6:40 15-7:37 Hard to get going again after stopping for water
16-7:57 Last two miles up Sunset very slow and easy. Overall pretty pleased I made myself come over and run with the club and I forced myself to go as far as I did. I only need 2 more miles today for me to meet my goal of 60 for the week. Which I'm feeling good about considering where my training has been the last few weeks with the calf injury. Hurricane Half not a great day for me, but before I go into details about my race. Just want to say Congrats first to my wife. She did a great job on her first 5K since high school. Her time was about 4 minutes faster than she was hoping for, so she did awesome. Also it was great to see Steve Hooper have a good race, along with Ryan, Bill and Marcie. My race didn't go as I had hoped, but I think most of that could be attributed to my lack of training the last few weeks. Before my calf injury I felt like I was getting into decent shape and then that injury set my training back about a month. Anyway, last week was a good week with 60 miles, but it was evident today I still have a long way to go with my training. However, I don't want to be too hard on myself. I felt great on my run last night, maybe even pushed it too hard. Got home watched the Jazz win, which was great then tried to get to bed. Anyway, we had a pretty short night. Both Jarren and Jansen have been a little sick this week and last night was really difficult with Jarren. Sunny and I both took turns being up with him. Things got worse when I set my alarm to go off at 4:50 pm, instead of am. I still don't know how I woke up at 5:25 and managed to catch the bus. My biggest mistake this morning was grabbing a slimfast shake to drink. Not a good idea for a pre-race breakfast I guess. Anyway, got up to the start late and didn't have much time to warm-up. The race started off ok, but I probably went out too fast which might have lead me to feeling so terrible later on. 1-6:01 2-5:47 3-5:59 4-6:23 5-6:23-Really start feeling tight and some cramping
6-6:42- Pretty much lost all focus on these next three miles and figured I would just try to enjoy the scenery
7-7:08-walked through the aid station and did some stretching
8-6:42 9-5:44 tried to push it on the downhill, but really not feeling that great
10-6:22 11-7:07-really struggled running through La Verkin
12-7:56- Got chicked here by Erica Schramm, but didn't even care.
13-7:04- Just nice and easy Overall time was 1:25:35 (6:34 average) which was 5:40 slower than last year. Even though I didn't run as well as I wanted to or should have I was still happy to be at the finish and listen to other people talk about their races. I've been pretty fortunate the last few years to usually have decent races, but today just wasn't one of those days. So I guess we just move on and continue training and get ready for the next event. When we got home I tried to take a nap, but ended up spending more time in the bathroom vomiting, so maybe now I'm coming down with the same thing my boys had. This afternoon has been one of mostly laying around and dealing with stomach issues. I did manage to roto till the garden area an hour ago, but that took about all the strength I had. Side note my weight has been going down, which is good. I've been right around 145 (I was 155 at Christmas) but would like to get it closer to 135-137 this summer. Speedstar-77

Another rough night as Jarren was up again not feeling good. Got out and did 3 easy miles this morning. Still upset I didn't race very good this past weekend.
Great run for me this evening. I got done with driver's ed and I knew I had a birthday party to be at out in Santa Clara, so I decided to run from Millcreek High School basically out to Snow Canyon High School. I figured the route would be around 9 to 10 miles long and I was right it was exactly 10 miles when I got to Sunny's cousin's house. The first four miles were great running along the river trail. The next 6 were more of a challenge as it was a gradual uphill around Dixie Drive and up through Stonebrook to Santa Clara. Overall average was 7:09 with a few miles here and there under 7 min. Anyway, I felt pretty good on the run and ready to start the week. The weather tonight was pretty nice not too hot, not too cool, cloud cover and just a little headwind to deal with.

Good run tonight. I was worried how I was going to fit things in with driver's ed and scouts. However, the scouts are working on cycling merit badge and they had a 10 mile ride planned tonight, so I talked them into letting me just run instead of bike, which I was actually more happy about doing. We went out past Hurricane Intermediate then back to La Verkin. The 4 miles out I did in 29 minutes for a 7:15 average, coming back I ran 28 minutes for a 7:00 average, then did one easy mile around the neighborhood. Stratus-110 |

Played basketball this morning, I was pretty tired. Planning some more miles after work, then we are having a birthday party for Jansen, (he is turning six) then I have to get ready for game two of the Lakers/Jazz series. Not the best run this afternoon. I did 3 miles out and 3 miles back on the 600 North trail. Left calf muscle hurting, and both hips a little sore. Nimbus-141 |

Ran with Clyde and Aaron, we did the 7 mile loop from the store backwards, I think it was actually easier, expect for the fact I was trying to run with Clyde and Aaron and it was plenty hot out. Barely lost to the 7 minute guy. Decent run, especially considering I wasn't feeling too good. Today was one of the first times, I've actually gotten some car sickness while doing Driver's Education. Got home from camping in time to head over and take my turn running laps around the track for the relay for life. I ran real easy and even walked a few with some other friends. I ended up only doing 6 miles, so I'll try to get out again this evening. Stratus-123 I needed 3 miles to hit 60 for the week. Original goal was going to be 70, but somethings came up and I didn't feel to good on a couple of my runs this week, so I cut a few short. Anyway, I just went and did the La Verkin 5K loop 21:30. I ran the first mile way too slow 7:44, so then I challenged myself to try to catch the 7 minute guy, without feeling like I was pushing myself too hard. Second mile was 6:45 and the last mile was 6:23. Ended up with a 6:56 average. Speedstar-80 |

Hour of basketball this morning, planning on doing around 9 miles this afternoon, since I don't have driver's education. I didn't get in 9 miles, only 6 body feeling stiff and sore. Some pain in the lower left shin, kind of weird. I did explore a new place to run over by the Trails subdivision. I ran up this killer hill, up to a water tank. Frustrating hip pain has returned! Just when I start increasing my miles and feeling like I'm ready to really train, I get these little annoying aches and pains. I guess I shouldn't complain too much many people have it much worse than me in life. In fact stopping and thinking about it I have a great life and it will be even better next week when school is out. The three best things about teaching June, July, and August. Even though it seems our district here keeps starting school earlier and earlier each year. Anyway, enough rambling ran with Steve, Bill, and Mike tonight. I got done with Driver's Ed early so I did 4 miles around the running store and Sunset Corner, then Steve, Bill, Mike and I took off on the standard loop. Mike ran back to his house, so we extended the loop just a bit to drop him off, it was good seeing him out there again. We then headed down to the golf course. I really wanted to turn back at Sunset, but was encouraged to continue on. I had to stop for a drink and some stretching down at the golf course and again at one of the parks along the bike path. It is really starting to warm up and still very windy. The run wasn't the best, but glad I got in the miles. average pace for the first 4 miles was 7:41, then average for the last 10 miles was 8:12 Stratus-137

Didn't make it over to run with Steve and Bill this morning. I guess Steve had to cancel also. Anyway around noon I had to take the explorer over to get new tires put on, so I just decided to get some miles in while waiting. I ended up doing 10 miles from Discount Tires then down to the river trail and back up River Road. The first six miles were good around 7:15 pace. The last 4 were slower around 8:00 pace. It was already getting pretty warm around 90 when I started. Sounds like everybody had a good time running the Ogden Marathon. Cumulus-76 It is really helping me now that Sunny is getting into running. It makes it that much easier to get out and do some easy miles, when you have somebody to go with and talk to. I was able to get 6 more easy miles in tonight, which helped me reach my weekly goal of at least 60 miles per week. I have set this as my bare minimum for weekly mileage throughout the summer (unless my body or an injury tells me otherwise, I will shoot to run at least 60 miles a week through the summer. The main goal will be to work up to 80-90 miles a week. I've never in my life done more than that, so I'm not sure how the body would respond. The run tonight was down through the Overlook Subdivision, then up to 100 East. After 3.25 miles I dropped Sunny and Jarren off. He feel asleep again in the stroller while I was pushing him. Then I took off and did another 2.75 over toward Hurricane and back. I about got ran off the road, by our great La Verkin City Police Officer, who was driving about 90 mph to investigate something, of course he didn't have his lights on nor siren, which is really what upset me. Anyway, glad the week is over. After the run Thursday night and then all day yesterday, my legs were really sore. I did some stretching last night and iced a little bit and seemed to feel a bit better today. However, I still ready for a day of rest. Nimbus- 155 these shoes are starting to get broke in finally!

Didn't set the alarm, so didn't have time for a very long run. I was only going to do 2 miles, but just took off and did the La Verkin 5K loop, basically still sleeping. Stratus-140 Debated about running on the treadmill or outside in the heat. I went ahead had dinner (BBQ sandwich, which we'll talk about later) then waited around for an hour. Decided to head out around 8 and ran over the 600 North trail to the Sky Mountain Golf Course. I wasn't feel too great to start out with and I was a little worried about my dinner. Anyway, by mile 3 I had to stop and lose half of my sandwich. I felt better after I threw-up so I continued on. Half a mile later I had to stop again, this time I lost the rest of the sandwich. Luckily I was close to the golf course, so I got cleaned up, drank some water then started a 3 mile tempo Sky Mountain Tempo- 18:01 (average 6:00)
1-6:15 running through the neighborhood, a little uphill 2-5:56 starting to feel pretty good, some decent downhill 3- 5:50 some good downhill at the start, then it evens out the last half. I was pretty pleased with this effort. However, I think I can get this time down to 17:30 or lower with a little work. My main goal was just to run between 6:15-6:25 pace, so I was quite a bit faster than that. Did one mile cool-down, then Sunny picked me up at Brentwood Bowling Alley Cumulus-84

5 mile run this afternoon in the heat. I ran over to the library checked out a movie, then ran back home, very hot and windy. Nimbus-160 16 mile bike ride with the boy scouts. This was challenging as it was similar to running with people of different abilities. We had some scouts that were in great shape, had the right kind of bike and cruised right along, then we had a few in the middle, and then we had a few we had to keep stopping and going back for. However, I was pretty pleased with the effort that the scouts made. I know it was a good workout for me. We rode from La Verkin out to Anderson Junction and back.

3 miles before the club run. I ran up state road 18 on the bike trail 1.5, then back down. Did the 7 mile loop with the club. Mainly ran with Mike and Dave. Nice to just chat as the miles went by rather fast and easy. Did one more mile loop with Bill and Aaron once we got back to the store. Stratus-151 Now the stress of packing and getting ready for a 10 day trip to Colorado then on to Wisconsin. Hopefully everything will be fun and workout once we get going on our trip. Well, Sunny and I did a little 5K race this morning in Craig. Hardly anyone showed up, no awards, no post race refreshments, the shirt was too big, and we had to run up very steep hills, and the course was way short, but besides those things it was still nice to get a tempo run in. 1- 6:47- took a little bit to get warmed up and used to the elevation 2-7:08 very steep uphill during this mile .80-5:07 No competition so I just took it easy, when I finished I jogged back half a mile caught up to Sunny and finished with her. Nice to finally be home. I gained 5 pounds on vacation so I'll have some work to do the next few weeks. I'm guessing Chicago Deep Dish Pizza is not on Sasha's approved diet? But the place was great. Anyway after driving for 8 hours today, I was ready for a run tonight. I did 2.5 mile over to Hurricane High to find the track all tore up, looks like they are resurfacing it. I still stuck to my plan and did a 2 mile tempo run. Out in Wisconsin, I really didn't do any workouts at a faster pace, so I just wanted to see how a couple tempo pace miles would feel. Things actually went ok, I ran a two mile tempo in 12:10, so 6:05 pace which felt pretty comfortable. I then did an easy 2.5 miles home. Cumulus- 91 Was nice to run in a different pair of shoes. Ran the Speedster 10K this morning. I really wasn't that pleased with my race, but I guess it was good to get in some faster miles. Especially since I didn't do much over vacation. I did 1.5 miles warm-up when I got there. I wasn't really feeling that great this morning, but as we lined up at the start I figured I would just go out and see how I felt, no real time goals. 1-5:56 pretty fast as I ended up struggling during the middle miles. Aaron took off pretty fast, he was running the 5K, then Dave Holt, and a guy named David Smith? that just moved here were in second and third. 2-6:15 By this point the race is pretty spread out. James Holt is not too far behind me. 3-6:18 I stopped here at the aid station and got some water, James was a little faster with his water and he went ahead of me, which I was fine with. I really wasn't feeling that great and I thought maybe if I have somebody ahead of me to focus on, I won't notice the pain quite as much. 4-6:34 Pretty slow here, but then again I didn't really feel like I was racing, more of just a relaxed tempo run 5-6:34 Another mile, by this point I had passed James back and just focused on getting water at the aid stations to dump over my head, as the temps were already on the rise. 6-6:14 Felt a little faster here .4-2:30 Ohana Overall finish was 3rd and 2nd in age group behind Dave. Steve and the St. George Running Center had some nice awards as usual. After the race I did a 1.5 mile cool-down with Marcie, Dave, Clyde, Aaron and the new guy. After the awards, Bill and I did a 5.5 mile loop from the park out around Bloomington, then back on the river trail, stopped at the Dixie Center for water, then back to the park. The wildbull really gave me a hard time for my fat gut and love handles when I took my shirt off. Actually, the wildbull is correct in saying I need to lose some weight in that region. I used to have the nickname when I was coaching of Little Budda, and I still feel like that on some days. Cumulus-109.5 Anyway, when I got home my weight was 145, but I'm going to try to get down to 135-137 by the marathon. I'm going to try to track my diet a little better, maybe here on the blog. Maybe anybody that spends time reading different blogs can give me some encouragement with my diet. So far today. Two easy miles this morning with Sunny and Jarren in the stroller. I didn't get up and run with Marcie and Bill (sorry guys). Nimbus-173 This afternoon I had a massage with April. It went good, she worked on my calf which she said was a very deep pull. She also said my hip problems, were probably related to too much stress and everything was just centralizing in my quads and hips. She said there were no major knots, just that I needed to reduce my stress level. She said, she thought some of my problems might be more mental than physical (no I'm not joking) 6 more miles tonight. Steve Hooper called me earlier today and asked if I felt up to doing a longer run with him from Hurricane over to Washington. I figured since I missed the run with Marcie and Bill earlier in the week, maybe I should give this run a try. We met up at Hurricane High about 7:30 and the run started out really good. We hit some decent miles cruising along state road 9 and even out by Sand Hollow we still were running strong. Both of us struggled a little once we started coming into Washington. Steve had some stomach issues and my hips were bothering me as usual. Still it was a nice long run, something I haven't done in quite some time. The temperature was nice and it was good to visit with Steve and run a route I've never been on before. I'm just a little worried about my legs and hips being ready for the Utah Summer Games 10K on Friday. I'm planning on taking it real easy on Thursday and probably won't be at running club. Easy 3 mile run with Sunny and Jarren. Went over and talked to Joel Timo for a bit, should be starting on the pool in the next few weeks. Then we ran down Main Street and down to Pah Tempe, then up Pah Tempe hill pushing the stroller. Cumulus-112.5 3 more miles tonight did the La Verkin 5K loop with Sunny and Jarren. It has been nice doing some easy runs with them. I really don't know what to expect tomorrow in the Summer Games 10K. I don't feel like I'm as fast as last year, so it will be interesting to see. Not a very good race for me this morning. I didn't feel that great when I got up, but figured I should run the even, since I had paid for it already. Bill and Robin picked me up and I slept most of the way to Cedar in the car. Didn't feel much better on the bus ride up to the start. Did close to a mile warm-up then the race started. 1-5:29 Started out slower than most of the guys I should have been running with and was never able to catch back up. 2-5:29 Did pass a few people this mile, but pretty much run most of this race alone. 3-5:41 Hips starting to feel tight and legs a little tired. 5K split 17:07 4-5:41 Just coasting along, not really feeling that great 5-5:48 6-5:44 Felt a little better this last mile .02- 59.50 Overall time was 34:53 (5:36 pace) so quite a bit slower than last year, but the race distance was more accurate this year. Anyway, not really that pleased with the race, but I figured going in I wasn't in as good as shape as last year. It may not have helped that I did the 18.5 mile run Wednesday night with Steve. I think that might have taken a little out of my legs, anyway no big deal. Hopefully, I can run some decent legs next week during Wasatch Back. 9 very, very slow miles in the heat of the day. Got home from camping with the scouts, then went and set out flags for flag day, then feed the scouts breakfast. When I was finally able to get my run in it was already very hot out. Ran over to Sky Mountain Golf Course, then back through Hurricane. Stopped numerous times for water.

Not the best morning of running, I really didn't even want to get up and do anything, but did manage to force myself through 4 miles. I'm feeling a little sore and stiff, but hopefully things will loosen up as the day goes on. Stratus-232 Met up with the club tonight and did a 5 mile warm-up then a 2 mile tempo and then a 1.3 mile cool-down down at the Dixie Center. Those guys are all so fast, I got tired just trying to keep up on the warm-up.
1- 5:50 felt good 2-6:20 caught up to Steve Hooper and we coasted it in the second mile. Still really hot, took it easy on the cool down. Glad I made the effort to drive over for the workout. My two mile tempo a few weeks ago on the track right after vacation was the same time, but my splits were more equal 6:05, 6:05 Cumulus-129.5 |

Just about didn't make it this morning. I did a run down through Confluence Park, along the Virgin River here in La Verkin. There was a whole crew of horse flies that tried to carry me off. I felt like that kid from Charlie Brown that always had the flies around him. I would speed up and then slow down trying to juke the flies but to no avail. Finally I was able to get back on the pavement and enjoyed the last 2 miles without too many flies. I also had this feeling as I was running that I might see a snake today, and sure enough a long black and white one. I was actually surprised it didn't spook me as much as they usually do. Nimbus-182 Ran up to the substation and back tonight with Sunny. This was the first time she has done this run. The first two miles have some uphill, but then coming back there is some ok downhill. Anyway, I paced Sunny and encouraged her to run the last two miles at a faster than usual pace. I'm going to try to get up a little earlier tomorrow and get in some more miles before it warms up. 2 easy miles this morning in Murray.
Got up to Logan and rested for awhile at Katie's parents house, then headed over to Paul's, met up with everyone then off to the starting line.
This year I had a great van and a great experience with WBR. Paul was our driver, then it went Mitch, Steve Hooper, James Barnes, Me, Chad, Jon.
I did about a mile warm-up before my leg. I was excited for my leg this year and was interested to see if I would be anywhere close to the times they had predicted for me. My first leg was leg 4 and it was a moderate 5.1 mile leg.
1-5:49 took off a little fast, probably got too excited. The temperature was still very hot.
2-6:03 another good mile
3-6:39
4-6:33
5-6:44 a little bit of uphill here and feeling pretty hot
.14- 55
Overall time was 32:45, average pace was 6:23, I was about a minute faster than I was supposed to be, so I felt pretty good about that.
Took a short ice bath in the canal in Eden, and then got some dinner. |

My second leg was at about 1 in the morning. Right before the exchange I was asking people for directions and by chance I happended to ask my old collage coach at Ricks Doug Stutz for some information. It was pretty crazy running into him like that. I knew he was running, but finding people when there are 580 teams is kind of hard. Anyway fun to visit with him.
2 leg- easy
1-6:02-Felt good and enjoying just passing lots of people.
2-6:02 consistent
.92- 5:39 Still pushing it
17:45 (6:05 pace)
This leg was a little short, but I still think I ran really good. Once again I was ahead of my predicted time
Now it is off for some rest, even though it is very hard to get any sleep during these types of races.
Final leg- Hard
This leg was a fun leg, even though it was rated as hard, I felt I ran this one pretty good. Overall I gained 560 ft elevation, so there was a good climb the first two miles
1-7:08 heading up the hill
2-7:11 another mile up hill
3-6:19 Things start to even out, and actually some downhill this mile
4-6:29 Kind of rolling
.92- 5:23 I was really pushing myself here, and ended up losing a little bit of Fazoli's at the exchange
Overall 32:31 (6:37 average) This was another leg, where I run just a little better than projected so I was happy about that, but more happy just to be done.
At the finish we watched BYU come in. They brought a really good team this year, and then our first team came in second, followed by our team in third. I was pleased with the effort of everyone on our team, and I think everyone had a fun time, which was the main goal.
I know this isn't the best race report, but I'm still on vacation and using somebody else's computer, so I can't spend all night reporting or I would.
When we got back to Salt Lake. Jansen and I went swimming and then I got stung by a huge wasp. Anyway, my right hand is now about twice the size of my left. |

| I was hoping to get in some miles here in Salt Lake, but I just got back from the instant care. It turns out the wasp sting was a little worse than I had expected. My hand really got swollen last night and it bothered me all day at my class. Anyway, I had to get two shots and some prescription stuff to help fight off the infection. I'm not going to run tonight, but maybe tomorrow if the swelling goes down some. The doctor told me to take it easy and hopefully the medication will kick in soon. He said most likely the wasp was a yellow jacket which was carrying an infection, which got passed on to me. |

This has been a pretty sorry week. It didn't help getting stung by the wasp and missing two days at the beginning of the week dealing with the infection. Anyway, the last few days have been better, and hopefully going into July I can have 4 good weeks of training. I do know having scout camp next week will make things a little more challenging This morning, I didn't get up in time to make it over to run with the club. It sounds like they had a good run. I would have probably died. I ended up doing a 10 mile run out to Toquerville and back. I ran out in 40:44 (8:08 pace) and then came back in 38:11 (7:37 pace). Once again got a late start and the temperature was on the rise. One of these mornings I will learn. Stratus 2 easy miles tonight *I just went back and was looking over my training, compared to where I was at last year at this time. After my run on Monday, I should be about 100 miles ahead of where I was last year at the end of June. I am pleased about this, especially considering I've had a few injuries this spring. Anyway, I really need to get in some good weeks during July/August/Sept.

Pretty good workout for me this morning. I've been wanting to get back on a better routine of doing 1000m repeats, mile repeats, Pah Tempe Hill repeats, and tempo runs. This morning I woke up at 6, but didn't feel too good, so I went back to sleep. Once 7 rolled around I felt a little better, so I headed out knowing that I wanted to do 1000m repeats on my new course I measured out here in La Verkin, but also knowing that Monday mornings..usually aren't that great as far as running goes. Anyway I did a 2.5 mile warm-up then got into the workout 5x1000m. The goal was to run between 3:33-3:38 which I figured would be close to my CV pace, with 1:30 rest in between each.
1-3:42 (5:57 pace)very first time running this route, so I was trying to figure out the correct pace and pick out landmarks 2-3:34 (5:44 pace) Much better effort here 3-3:35 (5:46 pace) Windy and feeling a little tired 4-3:37 (5:49 pace) Didn't feel good at all on this one 5-3:37 (5:49) Felt better, but figured this would be a good one to finish on. The goal in the future is to get these times closer to 3:30 (5:38 pace) which I think I can do. Did a .5 mile cool down home, then went with Sunny and did the La Verkin 5k loop in 29:56 for more of a cool down. Good start to the week and happy to get the legs moving.

I wanted to get in some more miles last night, but I spent much of the evening getting the Wii hooked up to the internet. I was able to download Super Mario Bros and Tecmo Bowl, so now I can enjoy some old school games. Once I got everything hooked up Sunny and I decided to go to the movie, so no run last night and got home pretty late This morning we didn't get up too early, but drove up and ran from the highway up to the La Verkin Overlook 14:50 for the 1.5 miles uphill and then 28:50 for the entire run (9:36 pace) Then Sunny, drove home and I did 3 miles at Tinman Tempo pace, (6:25) coming down the La Verkin Twist, felt pretty easy. Then .6 easy miles cool-down 4 easy miles tonight, up to McKell's then home, then over to the bridge and back. |

| Did the La Verkin City Freedom Run 5K race. I really had a hard time getting up this morning, and felt tired from the run last night. Anyway, made it over to the start and saw there were hardly any people, so I figured I should be able to jog the race and win. However, there was a younger college kid, that looked like he could be Sasha's younger brother (even though I don't even know if Sasha has younger brothers or sisters, and I figured even if he did, there would be little chance any of them would be in La Verkin on the 4th. What made things more interesting was when the lady was explaining the course this kid asked a few questions and his voice and mannerisms were also just like Sasha. So from the beginning he became Sasha junior to me. We started and basically ran the first mile together me and Sasha Junior (after the race he said is name was Teren Monson? I think visiting from Tempe, AZ) 1-5:36 Just wanted to see what the kid had, and figured maybe I would take it out hard and kill him off after the first mile. At any rate I didn't want to lose in a race this small to some younger guy.
2-6:03 The plan seemed to work after the first mile, Teren started fading and by about 1.5 miles I had a pretty safe gap, which was good because my stomach was giving me some issues. So I kind of went more into tempo pace mode, not race pace mode
3-6:02 This mile felt pretty easy and I by this point had a pretty large gap on Sasha Junior at least a minute maybe more. .13- 48 Course measured just a bit long, but not too bad considering there was no actuall starting or finishing line. This was the second year they did the race and still very low numbers. I went back after I finished and ran about the last .5 miles with Sunny, she finished fourth. Then jogged one more easy mile home. Now, here is the best part about the race. Instead of a medal or trophy I got something I can really use, and Clyde would be happy for me. I got a free meal from In and Out Burger, plus and In and Out Burger T-shirt. I mean what better way to treat your winner than with a nice big, juicy burger. I guess I know where I'll be heading for lunch.
Happy 4th to everyone!

Rough night sleeping in a tent with Jansen, up in Pine Valley. Got up at 4:45 and drove down toward Veyo and met up with Dave and Logan. We did a run down the marathon course. The first 13 miles went pretty good, as I was able to stay with Dave and Logan, of course they were running very easy, because of their long run yesterday. At around mile 13 my right hip really started hurting, which is nothing new, anyway the pain was quite a bit worse this morning than it normally is, so I slowed way down and even stopped a few times for some stretching and walking. My average pace through 16 miles was 7:40 and then the last 2.5 were a bit slower. James, Dave, and Logan drove back up and picked me up, which was nice. Overall, an average run except for the last 5 miles. I'm feeling pretty good about the week. Good 1000m repeats Monday, a decent 5K race yesterday, and a long run today. Cumulus-160 Needed 2.40 miles tonight, to make it 70 for the week, so Sunny and I did a little route over to 300 South then up to Main Street to 200 North then back on 300 West and cut over behind the church. Got home from the week long scout camp up at Kolob. My training didn't go very good, but maybe the lighter week will help my hip. After last week I was really having hip issues again. I went to the doctor and the x-ray, didn't show anything too significant, just the fact that my hip and SI joint seems to be hardening up. The doctor just said take more IB and ice after running. I hope to get in some miles later tonight and maybe run with the club tomorrow, and then get back into the swing of things next week. I think we might be heading to Colorado on Wednesday. 6 mile run tonight over to Hurricane past the Chevron, down to 400 South and back home. Really nice run for me this morning. I slept in, since I was feeling a little tired from Scout Camp. Sunny then drove me out past Sky Ranch and I did a 9 mile run back home. I tried to focus on keeping my pace pretty even throughout the run and I was happy with how that went. Still had to deal with hip pain, I think it is something I'm just going to have to learn to deal with. When I run between 30-50 miles a week, I don't have much pain, whenever I get over 60 miles a week, I start feeling it.

Back from our trip to Colorado. The running didn't go to good. My hip was really bothering me Friday, so I only did like 3 miles, and then didn't run Saturday or Sunday of course. We had over a 10 hour drive home today, but I was able to go and do a 6 mile run this evening. The hip felt a little better, but I ate way too much junk food over the weekend and I felt terrible on the run. Stratus-285

Did 2.5 mile warm-up then 4x1000m repeats. Three weeks ago I did 5, but I wasn't feeling to great on the third one today, so I only managed 4, but I was still pretty pleased, as the times were quite a bit faster today than a few weeks ago. 1-3:28 New PR
2-3:27 New PR, the 3:28 didn't last long 3-3:32 Hurting here 4-3:38 Didn't try to push it too hard, as my hip was starting to get tight. 1 mile cool-down I'll do some more miles tonight. Right now my running hasn't been going that great, there are lots of other stresses going on right now in my life, but I will continue to try to train and make running enjoyable again. 18 mile run down the marathon course this morning with guys from the club and Marcie. Glad I forced myself over to the run, even though it took me a very long time to get moving this morning. The run went alright, the first half I felt pretty good, miles 9 through 13 I tried to pick up the pace a little, and then I struggled some after mile 15. My hip started really bothering me again, once we hit the steeper downhill sections. I stopped right at 18 miles and my time was 2:11:45 (7:19 pace) which is ok, considering the shape I'm in right now. I walked .5 miles as a cool down to the store. Last year I was doing 20 mile runs in the time range I ran today, so still much work to be done. On a positive note I hit my mileage goal for the week of 60 and next week I'm going to shoot for 70. Good 15 mile run with the wildbull this morning. First 7 miles, kept the pace right around 7 min, then ran the next 4 around 6:25-6:30, then the last few my hip got tight, so I didn't push it too hard. Overall average was 6:50 pace, so much better than last week. However, I didn't feel very good when we finished, stomach issues. Bill is in great shape right now, I had to keep telling him to slow down in the beginning. He was doing a fartlek workout, everytime he would see someone he would speed up, he would increase the pace double time if he was approaching a female. He scared two girls pretty good at one point. Really good run for me this afternoon. In fact part of the run would rank right up there with some of the most enjoyable things I've done this summer. I've been struggling all week with hip problems and I wasn't going to run very far this afternoon. However, with it being overcast and the temp's not too bad I headed the La Verkin Twist and made my way to the Overlook. Climbing the hills were a bit of a challenge, but I actually felt pretty good. After a brief stop at the top, I headed back down, this is when it got fun, a huge down pour of rain made the run back down into La Verkin very nice. It has been a long time, since I've ran in the pouring rain (something I really enjoy), so it was nice this afternoon. I ran 3 miles at Tinman tempo pace. Average was 7:45, not bad with quite a few hill climbs.

I was running along 600 North trail, so I stopped at the ball field and made good use of their water hose. I then proceeded to the bridge, but stopped and walked across the bridge to regain focus. Even with the walking, I was able to edge out the 8:00 min guy. Planning on doing some more miles, later once the sun goes down. Great workout for me tonight (something I've been needing to have, to help me stay motivated) Anyway, I left the house at 7:00 pm, still very hot out, probably still right around 100. I did 2.5 miles easy warm-up, then started into a workout of 1000m repeats on my marked off course in La Verkin with 2:00 min recovery. The goal pace was 3:33-3:38
1-3:34.84 (5:42 pace) Felt nice and relaxed 2-3:30.85 (5:38) Another decent repeat 3-3:34.05 (5:41) Starting to hurt a little, hip feeling tight 4-3:32.55 (5:40) Really pushed the last half
5-3:32.20 (5:40) Didn't feel good from the start, but did manage to pick it up the last half. Did another 2.5 miles cool-down. Pretty decent run this morning. After helping out with the Pine Valley 5K and 10K race Bill, Mike, Bruce and I left from Pine Valley and cruised down to Central. The Bull was already firing on all cylinders, so we tried to slow him down a bit. Ran the first 9.5 miles in 7:07 pace. Then after a short drink at Central I took off and pushed the pace for 4 miles (averaged 6:30 pace) then slowed up to around 7:05 pace for the last two miles. I was starting to heat up and felt a blister coming on, on my right foot back on the heal, in the weird place where I got some really bad blisters two years ago. Anyway, overall a good run. Hip was bothering me again most of the run, but that was to be expected. My hip hurts worse when I run downhill, but we don't get to run up in Pine Valley very often, so that was nice and the temperature wasn't too bad, except for the last 5 to 6 miles. Stratus-343 |

Awesome workout tonight. Funny how things work, going into the workout I was dreading running mile repeats and I about had Sunny turn the car around, because it was also getting dark and where I was going to be running there isn't much room on the shoulder of the road. I thought maybe just bag the workout and get an earlier start tomorrow, but then I thought well we're already out this far, might as well go through with things. Anyway, Sunny drove me out to Anderson Junction and then I did a 2 mile warm-up down Mills Lane. Then began the workout, which called for 5x 1 mile, with 3:00 min recovery. The goal pace was to be around my LT pace which would be around 6:00 min. However, I got a little carried away and most of these miles were downhill, which is an area I need to improve on. Learning how to run faster on the downhill sections of a race, especially the second half of the marathon course. 1-5:44- Good downhill at the start, and then a short little hill climb, then back to downhill 2-5:29- All gradual downhill, had to jump off the road once to dodge a truck 3-5:50- Downhill, then a little uphill coming into Toquerville 4-5:48- A little bit of uphill coming out of Toquerville, then flat to gradual downhill. Had to dodge quite a few cars on this mile. 5-5:31 Flat start, then very steep downhill and very narrow road. As you can see my splits were kind of all over the place, but each mile was unique. I'm going to try this workout again in a few weeks, now that I've established a baseline. Easy 2 mile jog home, up the hill into La Verkin, then down 300 West Speedstar-110

Well, this was not a spectacular performance or anything. However, I was satisfied with my effort, especially considering my current fitness level and training (or lack of). I ran this race in 2006 and ended up taking a wrong turn around mile 11.5, so this year the main goal was to first run the correct route. The second goal was to push the first 10K hard and then just see how long I could hold on. I really didn't have any time goals going in and I figured if I ran a PR that would be a bonus, but not something I would be focusing on or upset with if I didn't hit a PR. At the start Bill and I met up with Michelle, Josse, and Marcie. I told Michelle I would try to help her out some if I could. Once the gun went off it was really weird, Mike Vick took off, but nobody else really jetted out of there. I was really surprised because I figured for sure there would be some faster people or at least some younger runners going out hard, like most races. Anyway, I just decided to stick to my plan and try to hit around 5:40's 1-5:33 2-5:43 Just Michelle and I in 2nd and 3rd place. At this point I realize my Garmin is off on where they have the miles marked. Anyway, I should have just started taking splits from their mile markers, but I didn't. So pretty much the whole race my mile splits were different from the marked course.
3-5:47 (17:04) in 2006 I was 16:33 at 3 miles, so I'm already thinking that today will be slower. I picked up the pace a little on Michelle, but figure she'll catch up before long
4-5:42 5-5:51 Still holding on to 2nd place overall 6-5:59 (34:27) Around this time the two bandits show up and I just let them go by. Start feeling a little stomach cramp 7-6:05 A small hill, and starting to heat up 8-5:53 This mile felt pretty good 9-6:06
10-6:22 Legs are dead by now and the hip has started to tighten up, 2nd place overall runner from Wasatch Running Center passes me, and Michelle is closing fast.
11-6:35 I put it into relax mode and encourage Michelle to go after it. Kind of funny I look at the back of her singlet and think. Yep! I just got chicked. 12-6:39 Managed to make the correct turn this year and coasted through the neighborhood. I even stopped at a guy's house and cooled off in his sprinklers. 13-6:10 Didn't push it too hard to the finish and just worked on keeping the hip in check.
Anyway, I figured I was 6th overall, and the 5th male finisher. However, I didn't know that two of the guys were bandits and didn't finish, so that bumped me up to 3rd overall for the males with a time of 1:18:19 (5:58 pace). I know all you fast guys are saying 1:18:19 and you got third? All I have to say to you guys is thank you for running either Top of Utah Half or the Park City Marathon. For my efforts I did receive a nice plaque and $50 gift certificate to Runner's Corner. However, I still feel like Shawn Crawford did the other day when the two runners in the 200m got disqualified and he ended up with a medal. Bill had a PR which was great and he ended up taking 3rd in his division and Marcie took 1st in her division. So St. George was represented nicely. In conclusion, I was glad I went up and did the race, I really didn't know what to expect and now I have a better idea where I'm at and what I need to work on in preparation for the marathon. Good run for me this morning. I've been concerned about my endurance and today's run probably helped that a little bit. Earlier in the week I saw Marcie and she said they were planning a 23 mile run this morning on the course. In the past I've never done a training run longer than 20 miles, but I figured I would be a good sport and go along with the group if that was what they were really wanting to do. Anyway, last night I was thinking if I could run around 2:40-2:45 that would be a decent workout for 23 miles. Got to the park and had lots of people catch a ride up with Mike. The Circle of Trust did a 16 mile workout, RUNNMAN got dropped off up a little further and did a 20 miler. Then Mike, Marcie, Marissa?, and Me started above Brookside. We took the first 11.5 miles easy. 1-7:54 2-7:46 3-7:14 4-7:13 5-8:14 Veyo Hill 6-7:56 7-7:39 8-7:55 9-7:31 10-7:21 11-7:20 After 11.5 I stopped got some water, went the bathroom then started to pick up the pace. We were right at 7:40 average pace
12-6:46 13-6:00 14-6:04 15-6:11- Right Hamstring started to cramp up along with some intense hip pain
16-6:35 Winchester Hill 17-6:16 18-6:02 19-6:16 20-6:00 21-6:23 22-6:46 23-6:30 Tried to pick up the pace to the finish, but ended up coming in at 2:40:07, so 6:57 average for the entire run, which I feel pretty good about. If I could actually be close to this time 2:40 on race day, I would be pretty happy. Of course that is adding 3 miles than I ran today. Anyway, I'm glad I did this workout, and now it is time to relax for the rest of the day and watch some college football. Cumulus-267

6 miles this evening, legs still really sore from the long run on Saturday, so I took things very slow and easy tonight. Ran over to Hurricane High and did a few laps on their new track surface, it feels pretty nice and I'm looking forward to doing some speed workouts over there in the future. Stratus-349 |

Ran 7 miles. I was going to do some 1000m repeats over at HHS, but once I got over there, they were having a soccer game so I just ran back to La Verkin and did a few more miles, maybe in the morning I will do some repeats on my course here in La Verkin. Speedstar-132 Played an hour of ultimate frisbee with the scouts, talk about a workout. I was running the whole time with only two other guys on my team. |

Rode bike to work this morning. Nice difficult workout this afternoon. I had to hurry to get this workout done, before Jordan's football game over in St. George, so I headed out the door at 3:30 pm and it was still very hot out. I did 1.5 mile warm-up then got into 5x1000m CV repeats, hoping to hit around 3:33-3:38 pace
1-3:28 (5:33) Maybe a little fast 2-3:26 (5:31) Still feeling good
3-3:27 (5:32) Surprised I was able to hit this time, because the heat is starting to get to me.
4-3:30 (5:40) I thought this might be my last one 5-3:34 (5:44) I tried the best I could, but the legs were gone by this time. Not much time for a cool-down only did 1 mile. I'm feeling pretty good after this workout. My legs were heavy, but my hip didn't seem to bother me very much during the workout which was good.

Played basketball this morning for over an hour, good workout, then I rode my bike to work and yes I had my helmet on and the training wheels off. Plan on doing a run tonight and then see how the legs feel tomorrow for the 20 miler.
It must be getting close to the marathon, because I've lost 5 lbs in the last week. The goal is for me to lose the Little Budda stomach and get Abs of Steel. Right now I'm weighing 145 which based on previous years would put me running right around 2:45 in the marathon. I really think once I get down around 140 or under for my weight I will then be able to see times under 2:40 for the marathon. 7.5 miles tonight into what felt like a furnace. The temperature was still pretty hot at 6:00 pm but the main trouble was the headwind I was running into the entire way. Anyway, decent run headed over 600 North trail, got water at hole #13, then down toward Brentwood, Sunny picked me up before my 8 miles were done, which was fine, with the race tomorrow I'm sure I'll be able to hit my goal of 70 miles for the week. 70 miles in six days is about my limit right now. I really don't know if my body could handle much more. I was hoping to have increased the miles more over the summer, but it seems like once I get in the 60-70 mile range I really start noticing hip problems. However, I do have some ideas I'm going to try after the marathon to see if I can become a little stronger and then maybe work to increase the mileage as my body and my schedule allows. Stratus-357 |

Well, I really wanted to get in a good quality 20 miler before the marathon and today I was able to accomplish that goal. I had set as a time goal to run as close to 2:10:00 as possible, which would be right at 6:30 pace. I ran a few 20 milers last year on the marathon course in preparation for the marathon and was able to average 6:36. I knew today in order to hit 2:10:00 I would need to push the first ten a little faster and the finish has some rolling hills. There were also a few short hill climbs in the first ten. 1-6:15- Good start and I could tell there wasn't going to be much serious competition. Once again, I have to thank the Circle of Trust (Logan, Dave, and Clyde) as they were all out of town, also Steve Olsen, Steve Hooper, Wildbull, and Mike- didn't run and some other fast guys did the half, so I was able to get a nice victory for my efforts. 2-5:57- Some steep downhill here. Stop at the first water stop since Wildbull and Bigfoot were there. I'm still wondering what they spiked my drink with?
3-6:00 4-6:11 5-6:18 6-6:08 7-6:24- little hill climb 8-6:20 9-6:47- I think another short hill
10-6:22 (1:02:46) I was feeling pretty good here and had accomplished my first goal to run under 1:05 and bank a few minutes. I averaged 6:16 so that was encouraging 11-6:29 12-6:22 13-6:57 short hill, and stopped at the aid station to stretch and get proper fluids 14-6:35 15-6:32- short stop at aid station
16-6:27 17-8:10- Yes, that is quite a bit slower than I was going, but I stopped and walked some up the hill, then stopped at the aid station at the top and had a short conversation with a guy that was doing the half and I had caught up to. 18-6:20- I start trying to do the math here to figure out if I'll be close to my 2:10 time goal.
19-6:44- Rolling hills
20-6:32 Finish right at 2:10:00.03, (6:31 pace) and get a good laugh at being right on what I was hoping for. Of course I ran the second 10 miles, quite a bit slower but I was still pretty happy with this run. I think this course is more difficult than doing 20 miles down the marathon course, so maybe I'm close to where I was at last year at this same time. I did one mile walk/jog to cool-down and put me at 70 miles for the week, which is the most miles I've done in a week since June I think? The hip actually felt pretty good today. After the awards, Bill and his son, Sunny and I, and Mike and his wife had some breakfast at Sonic, we'll have to hit IHOP next time. And yes, Bill sometime I might treat you to Ted & Allen's. Very rough night sleeping, got up and did the La Verkn 5K loop. The kids from Cross Creek were out running, so I tried to keep pace with some of them. Achilles still bothering me a little and still feeling sick. Found out yesterday we got the house we put an offer on and they would like to close by the end of the month. So I will be busy the next few weeks, getting everything ready for closing, packing up the house and making the move, all while trying to get ready for the marathon. We're pretty excited as the house is quite a bit bigger and just a year old. It will also be interesting because we'll be in a different ward so I won't be scoutmaster anymore, knowing my luck they'll call me to work with the young men the first week we are there. It seems once church leaders find out you teach school and work with youth, then that is where you end up serving. Anyway, should be an interesting next 3 weeks. Nimbus-255
6 easy miles tonight, pretty busy with Driver's Ed, and a few other things with the house we're getting. The lawn over there hadn't been mowed in quite some time, so I managed to get it mowed, but it was slow going and I could probably now go back and mow it a second time with the mower set a little lower. Anyway ran over to Hurricane High and then caught a ride bike with my sister-in-law, and then did the La Verkin 5K loop with Sunny. Still feeling a little sick, mainly a headache tonight.

Great workout tonight, it is funny how sometimes I have one thing planned and then end up doing something entirely different once I get out on a run. Anyway, we had parent/teacher conferences all day and night. I got out of my last appointment at 8:15 and figured I would just do an easy 4 mile run home and then maybe 3 miles with Sunny. I then planned to get up early and do 5 x mile repeats @ LT pace. Well, once I left the school the temp's were so nice so I headed straight for Hurricane High, it was already pretty dark, but as I got closer I realized the lights were on at the track. It turns out there was an 8th grade football game going on and it was only in the second quarter, so I just figured hey might as well do the mile repeats right now under the lights. I don't know what it is but I've always enjoyed running under the lights, maybe it goes back to high school and how everyone thought football players were cool, because they played under the lights, so when we as runners got to run under the lights we thought we were cool.
After the 2 mile warm-up from the Intermediate School I was ready to get right into the workout. It didn't really bother me that people were trying to watch the game, I just figured I had my i-pod going and I would do my thing. 5 x 1 mile with 400m recovery
1-5:47- Feeling good 2-5:46-Start of my second repeat and start of the second half of the football game
3-5:39- 9:00 pm and 78 degrees, very nice
4-5:45- Feeling a little tired, got a quick drink
5-5:48- Glad to be done, but really still feeling pretty good. The game got over on this repeat and they were not wasting much time turning the lights off. I had to hurry to finish up.
Did 2.5 mile cool-down home Overall, very pleased with this workout and I feel my running is going pretty good right now. Hopefully, I can avoid any sickness or injuries the next few weeks and then see how things turn out in the marathon. Stratus-368

Pretty proud of myself this morning. I got up before the crack of dawn and got in a good 12 mile run out past Hurricane Intermediate School, well I wouldn't really say it was that good, kind of on the slow side, but that is ok my legs are still feeling tired from the track workout Wednesday night and that 20 mile race last Saturday. We are heading to Phoenix tonight, so no more running today. I hope to get in 10 miles tomorrow, which will put me at 50 for the week. I was hoping for a bit more, but I've just been listening to the body this week. Actually getting pretty close to TAPER TIME! I'll probably do 50 miles again next week, then bring it down to 40 and go from there. I feel like I'm in as good of shape as I was last year, maybe even a little better, so the plan is to try to hit another PR this year at St. George. I'll probably try to go out a little faster than I have the previous two years. Cumulus-285

I'm really struggling today. Back feels very stiff and I ate a ton of junk food this weekend on our trip. Hopefully, a good run tonight, will help get some of this stuff out of my system. I've been feeling pretty good lately with my training, but I really need to have a few good more weeks.
6 miles tonight, ran over to Hurricane down to 400 South, then around the Chevron and back to La Verkin. Felt pretty good.

Rode bike to work this morning (no training wheels again! Just in case Mike or Bull were wondering?)
I plan on doing some 1000m repeats this afternoon, right after school, then probably easy most of the week. I would like to do another run down the marathon course Saturday around 13 to 15 miles with 8 to10 miles at marathon race pace.
Really good workout this afternoon. Nice weather as it was trying to rain, had to deal with a strong headwind though.
Did 2.5 mile warm-up around La Verkin, kind of funny this dog followed me around for about mile. Also, saw Hobie Call outside with one of his kids, I didn't stop to talk, but did say hi. I think we will be in his ward when we move at the end of the month. So maybe I can get to know him a little better.
Workout 1000m repeats La Verkin loop. The plan is to do at least 3, with 3:00 rest
1-3:27 (5:26 pace) Pretty good start, strong head wind the first part of the loop.
2-3:24 (5:23) New PR
3-3:26 (5:27) Legs feeling tired, and thinking I am probably done
4-3:27 (5:26) A little extra rest and then decided to start this one, the whole time I felt like I was running slow, but the time actually ended up being ok
5-3:22 (5:19) New PR. Took the shirt off and the I-pod and pushed the pace as best I could on tired legs.
2.5 mile cool-down.
I feel pretty good about this workout and plan on taking it easy for the next few days and then do another workout on Saturday.

Good workout this morning, met up with lots of people at the marathon finish. Mike's wife drove us up 14 miles. I took the first three miles easy as a warm-up then pushed the next three. The goal was to be under 6:00 min pace for 10 miles. Last year we did a similar run and I finished just over 59:00, so I was interested this morning to see where I'm at. 1-5:24- Ok, I got a little too excited on this mile, but I was trying to catch back up to everyone, after I had stretched and went the bathroom. Catch Bruce
2-5:32- Catch Mike
3-5:38-Still feeling good- Catch the wildbull
4-6:13- Winchester Hill 5-6:21-Stopped for a quick water break- Catch Marcie
6-5:40 Back to pushing the pace 7-6:00 Having some hip, calf, and stomach issues
8-5:53 9-5:51 10-5:59 Stopped and cooled off for a few seconds in somebody's sprinkler. Time 58:37 average 5:52. Pretty happy with this workout. Easy mile cool-down with Bill back to the park. Waited for everyone else to come in, which was fun. Speedstar-184 I then took off for Cedar Mountain and just got back. We had a fun time driving Sunny's cousin's Rhino around all afternoon. |

Pretty good workout tonight, especially considering the 96 degree + temperature while I was doing my mile repeats on the track. Did 2.5 mile jog over to Hurricane High School, then did 3 x 1mile repeats with 400 meter recovery, plus a little longer rest. 1-5:34 Felt really good, but starting to overheat 2-5:41 Not feeling quite as good on this one 3-5:37 The effort was much harder than the first two, but the time was right there in the middle. 2.5 mile very easy home This was a good workout and I'm feeling pretty good going into the marathon. I still don't really know what time to shoot for. Last year I ran 2:44:59 which was a PR by about 1:30 min. I really think I should be able to run faster than that this year, but how much I really don't know. This was an ok race for me, I wanted to be a little cautious as we as are a week away from the marathon. Saw lots of fast guys at the start and figured I would have my work cut out just to be in the top 10. Easy 2 mile warm-up 1-5:40- Found myself in 9th place behind. Logan, Aaron, Hayden, Dave Smith, Ryan, Mike, Jose, and some high school kid from Virgin Valley. I really didn't feel that great the first mile
2-5:44- Narrowed the gap between the Virgin Valley kid and Jose. I'm starting to feel a little better
3-5:46- With about a half mile to go, I passed both Jose and the Virgin Valley kid to move into 7th place. Now I'm finally feeling like I'm racing, but with this being only a 5k the race soon came to an end. .1- .34 Overall, I was satisfied with my time 17:45 (5:42 average) and I was pretty pleased with my place considering the good competition. I still found it weird that I ran a faster time on the course they had last year, which was supposed to be a more difficult course. Anyway, did 3 miles cool-down with Bill and cheered people on. Sunny ran and had a PR by over a 1 minute. Way to go Sunny! Now it is off to get a massage with April, then back to packing this weekend. We close on our house on Wednesday, so we'll be moving a lot of stuff next week. I just need to be careful and not do too much especially this close to the marathon. Thankfully, lots of friends, family, and people in our ward will be helping us move and it is just across town, so we can make lots of short trips.

Last speed work before the marathon. Ran 2.5 miles easy over to Hurricane High then did 3x 800 @ Yasso Pace, then 2.5 easy miles home
1-2:46- to slow, felt like I was still warming up 2-2:40 this felt better 3-2:43 Didn't push it too hard According to the Yasso 800s idea, your marathon time should be around the same time you can run a set of 10 x 800's with 400m recovery. So a 2:43 average on the 800s according to Yasso would put a person in the range to run 2:43:00 in a marathon. Anyway, the last two years I did 800 repeats, but this year I switched and have been doing 1000 CV repeats which I've found to be better for me. However, today I just wanted to run a few 800s to see where I'm at, and if I was to predict my marathon time off this workout I could be anywhere from 2:40 to 2:46 in the marathon, which seems about right. A marathon is a long distance so lots of things can happen, but I'm going to go out focusing on running a PR. Bronze- 2:44 Silver- 2:42 Gold- Sub 2:40 Speedstar- 199

Good night of sleep. We spent much of the evening moving things into the new house. Actually, we were able to get most of the big stuff. Sorry Mike, we already got the piano, the big scree, and the sectional all moved. We had a good crew and I don't think I over did it, at least I hope not. Plan today is to sit at my desk watch the students work (Yes, this is what I do most days anyway) Hit the expo around 3 or 4 Light Dinner around 5 Blog Party around 6
Leave for Pine Valley and the BYU Game around 7 A few people on the blog have posted how their training this year has been going compared to last year. My training has been better this year, but there is still much room for improvement. However, everybody has their own reasons for running and for me I really have to find the balance that works for everything else I have going on. Leading up to the marathon 2007 50+ miles per week= 5 60+ miles per week= 7 70+ miles per week= 2 2008 50+ miles per week= 10 60+ miles per week= 9 70+ miles per week= 2 I really haven't ran any races that were similar enough both years to compare. A lot of the races I've run this year I've either been coming off of an injury or big workouts for me. So I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. I really feel like I'm in shape to run a PR.

Well, this is not an easy thing to do, but something that is necessary. This year's St. George Marathon turned out to be one of my biggest BUMMER races in a long time. Actually, very interesting comparison between my very first marathon in 2004 and this year. 2004- Great weather, ran hard the entire way finished in 3:07:30, placed 219th overall, and 28th in age division 2006- 2:46:11 2007-2:44:59
2008- Terrible weather, walked or slowly jogged much of the second half, finished in 3:07:27, placed 206th overall, and 29th in age division The upsetting thing about this year, was the fact I felt like I was in really good shape, I had some good goals and thought I would be able to put everything together. Anyway, as those who ran or were there know the weather did make the race quite a bit more difficult. The rain the entire way and the strong head wind made for a long day. My main problem came from cramping up too many times during the race. I felt cold the entire race and was pretty worried about my body temperature. I think my biggest mistake was starting out too fast and running too many miles by myself. I didn't ever get in with any packs and I fought the wind the entire way alone. After reaching the half, I really fell apart and struggled with cramping: (calves, back, hip, and quads.) It was definitely humbling to see so many people passing me, especially other bloggers and people I usually beat. All I could do was wish them well. Ok before I continue anymore with the downer report. I would like to point out some highlights 1-Dave and Clyde's finish- I was really happy for both of these guys. Even though they didn't hit the time they were hoping for, they both placed very high in the race. Great job guys 2-Nice to see so many bloggers out on the course. Some performances that stood out. Michelle L., Tyler S., James Holt (Great job James!), Ken Carlson 3-A big highlight was stopping and shaking a little girl's hand. She had her hand out and people just kept running by her not doing anything, I actually stopped, talked to her for a moment and forgot about my problems 4-Another highlight was walking for a stretching with my cousin, who was working an aid station, I was really struggling and she helped calm me down. 5-Last highlight was rather interesting. At the finish I met up with an old college teammate, actually she was more than a teammate, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I hadn't seen this girl since college so it was nice to talk for a bit. She actually came over and met Sunny and the boys and then I met her husband. Ok, back to the scary part of this post the splits Like I mentioned, going in I felt like I was in good shape, so I wanted to go out attempting a PR. I believe in this race today the going out faster lead to more cramping and problems later in the race.
1-6:07 Felt good 2-6:25 3-6:01 4-5:53 5-6:02 6-5:40 7-5:54 8-7:18- Veyo hill 9-7:02 10-6:57- 1:03:20 I was actually feeling pretty good with my goals once I got to this point. But pretty much after this mile the race really turned ugly for me.
11-7:30 12-6:59 13-6:56 Half- 1:25:50 14-6:59 15-6:40 16-6:40 17-7:04 18-7:31 19-8:29 Walking
20-7:13 21-7:47 22-8:16 23-8:42 Walking
24-10:10-Crawling 25-7:45 26-7:33-3:05:42 .2- 1:45 Finish time 3:07:27
Ok, that was very painful to write, but I'm actually very excited to get back to training. Of course I will take it easy for a few weeks to allow for the body to recover. But I would like to do another marathon before the end of the year. I really feel like I need to redeem myself. Maybe the CA International Marathon, Las Vegas, or P.F. Changs in January. Anyway, this race was definitely one to remember, but would also be a nice one to forget. Speedstar- 226

| No running today, body still sore but not as bad as Sunday. In fact I spent much of the evening moving boxes and unpacking things. Maybe I was just too stressed about moving stuff to remember I had just ran a marathon and was supposed to be sore. Actually felt like going for a run, but by the time I slowed down last night it was 10:30 and I realized I had not had dinner yet, so I did that instead and then went to bed. |

My body was actually feeling fine and I could have ran if I wanted to but, I just gave myself a little break, plus I was busy most of the week moving and unpacking things. I'm ready to start back to running next week and I'm going to try to get in shape to run the Butch Cassidy 10K and the Snow Canyon Half in November. |

Went and measured a new La Verkin 5k loop from the new house. The route goes down Main Street past the Stake Center, then past Farmer's down to 300 West, then back to the South, through Pheasant Glen, then over to 400 South, then back on Main Street. 3 miles measured right at the mailbox on Main Street, then the .01 just up 200 North. Entire route measures 3.2 all the way to the house. Ran the 5k in 22:44
After running the 5K loop, I then did an out and back over to the old house, one mile each way. It was nice to be out running, a little windy and chilly, but not bad. Run right after eating a big dinner, which didn't feel too good. Nimbus-278

Went and played basketball this morning for an hour. This was the first time in a long time and surprisingly, my shot was on and I was able to score quite a few points. Hoping to get in a few miles of running tonight. | Tough trail run for me up through Chuckawalla with Dave, Clyde, Logan, Lindsay, and Carl. I usually struggle on trail runs, today was no different especially feeling out of shape and over weight. Anyway, glad I got the miles in and it was nice to run with the other guys. I picked up some Cafe Rio on the way home, so combine that with the run and now I'm feeling pretty full and tired. Tonight's run was the longest I've gone since the marathon. |

Ran the Butch Cassidy 10K race this morning. I've never done this race before, usually because of the timing being a few weeks after the St. George Marathon, I've never really felt like racing. However, I figured this year I would give it a try, even though I haven't been training much, I thought it would be a good speed workout if nothing else. Saw Tony Jones, Karl Wilcock, and Dave Smith so I figured a top 5 goal was within reach. There is usually always at least one guy that shows up unexpected or nobody knows about and they run decent. Which was the case today. Anyway, I got up there way too early, so I just decided to do an easy out and back 4 miles as a warm-up. I did the first two miles of the course, then turned around and headed back. I really didn't have any time goals, just wanted to see how I felt. Like I said I haven't been running much since the marathon, and especially nothing faster pace. 1-5:53 Karl and Tony took off, Dave was in third, I was in 4th. I was just trying to hold back a little. I was taking splits from my Garmin and I guess I should have probably taken splits from the mile markers. Anyway, I was about 8 seconds slower with the Garmin on the first mile
2-5:57 Another good mile, feeling pretty good. Once again about 10 second difference
3-6:12 I was at 17:45 at mile three when I looked at the marker, so not bad, but nothing blazing, just enjoying the run 4-6:36 Probably the hardest mile, with a good hill climb. Guy from Ogden passed my here, but I didn't really care
5-6:23 6-6:13 This last mile is on dirt, so I was being a little more cautious. .1- :36 Goal was just to finish under 38 minutes. Had to dodge quite a few of the 5K runners that were finishing up. 37:53 (6:05 pace) I felt ok with my time, considering the shape I'm in right now. I think I'll give the Snow Canyon Half a try next week. Hung around forever, waiting on the awards and hoping to win something in the raffle. No such luck, but I did have a nice conversation with Nick McCombs parents.

The big news first is the fact I passed my mileage total from last year (1926) and I still have a month and a half left in 2008. So I'm happy about that, and I'm actually feeling a little more healthy at this point compared to how I felt at this same time last year. Don't have the hip pain bothering me as much as last year.
The race started out good, but finished poorly. Looking back I probably should not have ran this race. I'm not in very good shape, and I've been feeling sick and run down the last few days. Actually, been having some strange tingling feelings in my hands and arms the last few days, kind of strange. Hope with some extra rest over the weekend I'll feel better. Did 1.25 mile warm-up No real time goals going in, just wanted to try to run faster than last year. 1-5:09 Fast first mile and I was in 13th place, just trying to stay relaxed
2-5:19 Another fast downhill mile, pass a few guys and move into 8th
3-6:03 5K split 17:15- nice! 4-6:52 Going uphill on the dirt trail, I really don't like this section 5-6:57 Another uphill mile 6-6:12 Make the turn around and then start running back down the trail, trying to dodge people going in the other direction, some people weren't paying attention at all. My 10K Split was almost the exact same time as my 10K race last week.
7- 6:44 Hip starting to bother me 8-6:03 Better mile 9-6:24 I think it was about this mile, that things really started falling apart. Mainly mentally, I think I had been in 7th and two guys passed me.
10-6:36 Really not feeling too good 11-6:55 Struggling through Entrada 12-7:03 13-8:10 I actually stopped and walked a few times on this mile, I really didn't want to but I was starting to get dizzy and started feeling more numbness and tingling in my arms and hands. I think I was in 8th place up until this place, but then got passed by a few guys when I slowed down. .1- 13 My Garmin had the distance measured at 13.03 Overall time was 1:24:45 (6:28 pace). Last year I ran 1:26:11. the course was just a little different but I don't think it was any harder, if anything I think this year's course might have been a bit slower. I wasn't that pleased with my time, but considering the shape I'm in right now and feeling a little on the sick side I'll just be happy that I finished this race. At this point, I'm a little burnt out on running, so probably no more races until the new year. I've been really busy with some other things right now, so I will continue to train when I can and when I feel like it. I do need to lose a few pounds, even though I didn't take a lot of time off after the marathon, I've sure put on the weight fast in the last month. |

Right now I'm just taking it day by day. I don't have any races planned for the near future. I'll probably do the Painter's Half Marathon in January, we'll just see if I can make it through the Holidays and not get too out of shape. |

Basketball this morning, had a hard time getting up. Fun run this afternoon. It was nice didn't have Driver's Education this afternoon, had a dentist appointment instead, so that gave me some extra time this afternoon for a run. I left the house and ran up the La Verkin Twist, then got on a trail near the gun club, the trail was one I've never been on so that was interesting. There was one pretty steep part, that I had to slow down quite a bit on, but most of the run was pretty good as far as trail runs go with me. Amazing temperatures for the middle of November this afternoon.

An hour and 20 minutes of basketball this morning, feeling a little run down, no energy. Interesting how much different this run was today compared to Saturday. On Saturday I barely did 5 miles and it took me 60 minutes with some walking, I just felt terrible. Tonight I felt pretty good 7 miles just under 60 minutes with at least one mile pretty much straight uphill. I ran from my house up to the "H" in Hurricane. I've never been up there before and it was a pretty good hill climb. The distance measured right at 3.5 miles once I reached the top. On the way back I picked up the pace a little and ran the last two miles right around 6:30 pace, which felt good. |

Very rough night sleeping, for some strange reason Sunny started screaming at about 11:00 pm, said some guy was standing next to our bed and was trying to take her, of course her screaming woke me up and I had no idea what was going on. Anyway after we realized it was just a bad dream and everything fine, then we were both paranoid and couldn't go back to sleep. I think she finally fell asleep at mid-night and I ended up watching T.V. for another hour, then laid in bed wide awake for another hour after that. Very strange night, when the alarm went off at 5:45 for me to go play basketball I wasn't too sure if I felt up to it, but I managed to go play. This is just the time of year, when I'm more into the sport of basketball than running. Different form of exercise and probably doesn't do much for my running, but still something I enjoy quite a bit. I'm planning on a longer run this afternoon. 6 mile run this afternoon, not great but at least I got out. I ran up to the substation and then back home, pretty slow going. |

Good morning of basketball, lots of running this morning. My weight was back up again over the weekend, once I get back into running more miles, the weight should drop. Did the La Verkin 5K loop tonight wasn't really shooting for any certain time, but the first mile was 7:33, followed by 7:18, and then 6:38 into a strong head wind. I guess it was on the last mile that I thought I would try to break 22 minutes, ended up with 22:10. Just a nice easy 3 miles |

| Basketball again this morning. This week as been all cross-training, probably try to get in a run tomorrow and a couple next week. After the start of the new year I'm going to get back to more regular training. I'm planning on running the Ogden Marathon this spring. |

| Cold morning run with Steve and Bill, they took it to me pretty good. Said I was slow and out of shape and they dropped me like a rock, no comeback from me, all I could do was agree. Good loop from the store over to the new Washington Exit, then back on the dirt trail. I didn't feel very good the entire run, hips, back, knees, and feet all sore, but was still good to get out. |

| 6 easy miles over past the bridge and back home, felt ok but not great. Today's run put me over 2100 miles for the year. Not all of those miles were running, some were cross-training which is always up for debate. How to convert or compare certain cross-training exercises to running miles? I usually don't get too concerned about it, because I run and train when I feel like it and I play basketball and other sports when I feel like doing that and as far as the miles per week, month and year go, all I really care about is comparing from week to week, month to month and year to year. |
