Hey gang.  So I'm supposed to run a 10k tomorrow... Any other SG people running the Tuachan Duathlon tomorrow? (not like any SG people are reading this ... ha!) I'm not excited about the race because no one is running it with me and no IPODs allowed on course- what will I do? Ah well.. better go anyway and treat it as a training run.   I signed up for this race in Dec. when I was desperate to find a winter race.  Then it was cancelled for bad weather and postponed until tomorrow.. Anyway...

I've still got a headcold, but not too bad.  Just frustrating 'cause the nose is stuffy, ya know? I'm getting out for an easy/ yet hilly- 4 miler this afternoon.

Update- ended up doing an evening 5.75 w/ Heather instead of the 4 miler I was planning on.  Pretty slow & didn't feel easy.  We were dodging lots of Fri. afternoon after work traffic. Hope the 10k will be OK tomorrow!

Beautiful race today at Tuacahn! I ran the 10k portion of the Tuacahn Duathlon.  Very small race, I would guess not much more than 20 runners for the 10k and probably about the same in the other races. There were 4 races going on:5k, 10k, sprint duathlon &  olympic duathlon.  Perfect weather (about 40 degrees), blue sky w/ red rock background.  I saw Ruth before the start and we warmed up a bit together.  I also introduced myself to another blogger who was wearing the racing singlet.  I feel really silly now because I can't remember his name! Started with an "L", didn't look older, but he introduced me to his daughter & grandchild, so I would guess late 40's? Anyway- hope I can remember his name.  NICE family!  Steve H. was also there handing out water and I saw another blue jacket that I didn't recognize.  So a small FRB representation, but hey- this was a small race. Ok- onto the race:

I started out way too fast, under 8 min. miles.  I had set my garmin for funsies to 49:45 to see if I could break 50.  My best ever 10k was a 8:17 pace on the downhill spectrum course so I knew this was a VERY ambitious goal for today.  My overall pace today ended up 8:29.  Definately not a PR, but I think perhaps a PR effort.  This was a tough course.  First 2 miles flat, then about 1.5 uphill into snow canyon park.  This is where it got really interesting.  There was supposed to be a spot marked turn around, I was at 3.5 mi. on my garmin and still didn't see the turn around or any water station.  There was supposed to be water every mile but I only saw it at mi. 1 & mi. 2- I passed them up thinking I would get water around mi. 3 or 1/2 way through the race- none to be found.  At this point I'm wondering if I should turn around to keep looking for the turnaround, then I see Ruth running back the other way- she tells me to turn around NOW! Apparently the 2 other runners ahead of me missed the turn around too, and they ran even farther than me. So I turned around.  I was frustrated that I ended up running over a 7 mi. race, but it was encouraging to be the 3rd overall runner and 1st in my age group (scored a very pretty medal) (given their wasn't much competition -LOL!)  I spoke w/ the race director afterwards he was really apologetic and swore there was a sign there- he doesn't know what happened to it.  I believe him, because the rest of the race was really well ran.  They gave out nice race packets before hand w/ a really nice waterbottle and some other trinkets.  Then they had a free kids' race (1/3 mi). Each kid rec. a medal and bag of goodies w/ some nice small toys.  My son LOVED that.  So I'm cutting them some slack, don't know if everyone will feel that generous though... My official race time was 59-something, but that was because I ran over 7 miles! I used my Garmin virtual trainer and at 6.21 it had 52:45 for me so I'm going with that!

1st night of sleep challenge. Lybi- I was tempted to write 9 hrs.  I went to bed at 12 and couldn't sleep past 8:30 even though I didn't have to get up until 9am! I tried laying there to go back to sleep, but just couldn't....Must've been the competition stress getting to me! ha, j/k...I'm going to have to train my body to sleep in better! (Now I gotta check your blog and see how you did!)

Very nice Sunday.  Great church meetings with many tributes to Pres. Hinckley.  Then a little Super Bowl partying at my brother's.  I know... some say no sports watching on Sundays... but we're just not that elevated (yet?) in my family!

I gotta log some good miles tomorrow, I ate quite a bit tonight watching that exciting game!

Day 2 of sleep challenge.  Ok- I feel guilty that I'm winning.  I'm not sure its fair stakes 'cause my kids are older.  Therefore they sleep through the night and can even get their own breakfast which allows me to be REALLY LAZY!! So I got nine hrs- bed at 10:30 and up at 7:30.  Which I think is good, except that I slept through an invite to be at the gym at 6am to run w/ Buff & Heather... oh twist my arm to stay in bed longer...

So- I gotta make up the miles today.  I'm about to go volunteer in Toby's class, then I will drive straight to the gym and run for an hour. We'll just have to call this a 2hr lunch break from working on mortgages at home. (Can you believe the streets are covered w/ snow & ice in St. George today?)

Got to the gym for 5 miles on the dreadmill.  The novelty of all the TV screens has worn off, 5 miles felt really long on the dreadmill today.  But I feel so great that I got the workout!

Day 4 of sleep competition.  The LYBSTER is putting up a really good fight! Last night I logged almost 9 hrs, trying to take back the lead!

Will run 6 later today.

Yeah, the distance for today is pretty laughable.  I can blame it on work, kids & hubby- but I know I really just need to get a more committed attitude.  Anyway- snuck in the 2.15, hoping to get in a couple more later today- but the evening is looking hectic so we'll see.  I think all this sleep is interferring with workout time- LOL!

Ridiculous amount of sleep last night.  I ran to bed at 9pm thinking I'd be up at 5:30 for a run.  However- running partner bailed , so I slept until the last possible minute that I would have to get up and get kids ready for school on time (9pm-7:50)  SO- I think that MUST put me back in lead.  I'm glad we are changing the stakes for loser, we decided we just didn't feel good about dragging poor Sasha into it.  We are deciding on some other personal torture like house cleaning, long run or combination!

Goal- 6 miles today.  Didn't do it yesterday, must today for my sanity.  Tomorrow spin class, Sat. long run.

Happy to report that I did it- got out there and got some miles in.  Inspired by a quote on Benn's blog (coined by our own Sasha) something like.."Just get out there and let the run happen"...Ah, I feel so much better now... 6.10, 9:36 av pace, ran for a couple minutes shy of 1 hr, need to get it up to an hour.

Christi

How's everybody doing on the Hinckley challenge? I'm hanging in there, but should probably up it by a page a day.  If anybody doesn't know what I'm talking about, check it out at www.hinckleychallenge.com !

Finally got a sec to blog.  I went to spin class today.  Awesome workout as usual.  Looking forward to running w/ the "Sole Sisters" tomorrow.  Gotta run now (busy day w/ lots of mortgages going on, kids' primary party & other kid's activities...) but looking forward to checking your blogs tonight!

Nice long run w/ Sole Sisters today.  They were actually going 12 mi., I had to cut it short to get to Toby's BB practice.  Still, good run.  9:22 pace.  Glad I met with them so that I could be motivated to go longer than I would've alone. This was probably my longest run since Painter's 1/2.  I was hoping for a training run today in the double digits, but due to a late start waiting for all the sisters to arrive, the niner will have to do.  Let me tell ya, this is a cool group of women.  Most are in their early 40's and all getting ready to run Boston (again)  They are a hoot.  One of them runs by every fast food / drive thru window and car wash stall and looks for lose change.  She's up to $100 she's collected on runs.... Crazy? maybe... but fun!

Last night was the final night of sleep competition (I think?) I didn't log too many Zzzz's  last night so maybe Lybi caught up?  I'm glad its over.  I decided too much sleep makes me a LAZY gal.  Ready to get back to my 7 & 7.5 hr. nights!

Well- off for some more family fun (watch Arielle's dance and hopefully go out & grab a bite to eat)

Have a great weekend everyone!

4 miles with Heather this morning at 9:20 pace.  We cut it short so she could get home and make BD breakfast for her daughter.  I didn't mind, my knee and hip on the left leg are a bit sore so I thought it was good to ease into this week.  Tomorrow weight lifting class.

Happy Monday!

Slept in and skipped weight lifting class.  Now must go to Thursday's class as punishment (harder teacher!) Am going to run while Arielle is at gymnastics this afternoon- should have time for about 5 miles.  Going to sign up for Spectrum 10k this week!

Phew! Got the 5 miler in.  It was a really nice solo run in the afternoon.  Don't hate me you Northerners, but I was able to sport a singlet in the 68 degrees, sunny weather! Av. pace 8:52.  I'm always happy when I average close or UNDER 9 min. miles.  Run could've been longer, felt like I had a couple more miles in me, but time didn't allow.  Tomorrow morning meeting Buff & Heather for a good 6 miler w/ hills.

We decided to go w/ the shorter, tougher run today.  We ran a foremaster loop w/ 3 foremaster hill repeats.  It was great! 4.57 w/ 9:37 av. pace.  I'm pleased w/ that pace on hill repeats. Haven't done hill repeats in awhile and I love how I feel after doing hills, makes other inclines seem easy.  Tomorrow- weight class.  Friday I get to hopefully run w/ Michelle! Then Sat. long run.

My hip is bothering me.  I need to do some research.  Its like the top of my hip where it connects to my back (not thigh) Hurts when I twist or turn and sometimes when I run.  A little sore after runs. Not too bad yet, but I think its getting worse not better over the last 3-4 days. Don't know what I did to it or if its running related?

Happy Valentine's Day!

Here's my reasons for my goose egg today:

1.  Resting my hip & other aches & pains

2.  Want to be "fresh" on my runs the next 2 days

3.  Stayed up too late last night

4.  I'm lazy

5.  To steal from Jody- no new episodes of The Office

6.  Giant chocolate chip cookies don't make for good running fuel

Ok- really the first 3 reasons will suffice...

I will do some light toning today and perhaps a walk.  Then back to the grind tomorrow!

Today will be filled with elementary school Valentine's Day Parties and entirely too much sugar! My 5th grade son is having an etiquette "dance", they had to get all dressed up to go to school.  Should be a hoot!

CHANGE OF HEART... after reading some blogs and getting inspired, I decided I should show myself some love today- after all its Valentine's! I'm going to plan on getting in a couple miles while waiting for kids during some of their activities this afternoon.  I'll make them slow, easy, "body be good" miles....

Met Heather this morning for 4.56 at 9:15 av. pace.  Shorter run than I was planning on.  I felt in slow-mo this morning, just couldn't get it going. My distances this week have been wimpy! But, on the other hand, I will get in a day more of running this week than I normally do- so I guess I should be proud of that. Going out w/ the Sole Sisters in the am for the long run,  I think I'll just do a 9 or 10 tomorrow, don't want to do a big jump in distance from last week's long run- don't want to aggrivate the hip.  (Missed you this morning Michelle, hope you're enjoying a St. George get away!)

Its FRIDAY!!! Make it a great weekend bloggies!

Nice 9-er w/ Heather & Buff today.  9:15 av. pace.  Met up early at the gym and did a loop around Green Springs.  Felt pretty good energy the whole run, took 1 gu 1/2 way, but the non-caffeine kind. Started to feel the hip right at the end of the run, so 9 was probably good for today.  Will try a bit longer next weekend, like maybe 11 or 12.  Felt good about mileage this week and getting out 5 days, I usually only get out 4 it seems... Need to run some downhill in the next couple weeks to get ready for Spectrum 10k- my quads are feeling weak lately on downhill, slow... Another goal is I'd like my av. pace to be faster, like closer to 9 mi., instead of 9:15, but I guess that will just come with more mileage.

Off to spend the Sat. w/ my sweetheart (finally celebrate Valentine's)

Have a great weekend bloggies!!

Thanks Jody!!

Great run w/ Jody this morning! Glad I got outta bed (tempted to sleep in since kids don't have school today and don't need to be anywhere early...)Met up w/ Jody for a nice flat run.  Great conversation and we still kept a 8:53 av. pace.  Anytime I'm under 9 min. miles I'm stoked! This was a great run.  Its nice that Jody & I can hookup when we go back & forth visiting our families in SLC and SG.

Now off to find some fun this Pres. Day Holiday (not quite sure what that is yet)

Have a great day bloggies!

Sleep time is getting shorter and shorter everynight.  Gotta work on getting to bed earlier!  Early morning weight class at gym today.  Been on a pretty good roll w/ mileage lately, and I'm missing not getting any in today.  I think I'll try to sneak in 3-4 while kids are at sports practices today. Plan on spin tomorrow, run rest of the week.

Fell a bit off the wagon this morning.  Was supposed to get up for Spin class early- but slept in.  And it felt SOOO great! I think too many nights of only 5-6 hrs. sleep caught up with me.  So back to pounding pavement tomorrow!! (unless I get in some miles this afternoon which looks highly unlikely between piano lessons, soccer practice and cub scout blue & gold banquet...)

OK- back on running wagon today! Feels good to be back.  The run, however, did not feel so hot! My legs felt like bricks and my tummy was icky (too much cake at the cub scout dinner last night?) Thankful for a running partner who can keep me distracted by good conversation. Happy I got 'er done! 6 miles at 9:13 average.

Nice 12-er w/ Sole Sisters today.  There were 9 of us which made for a big, fun group of gals dodging traffic. Beautiful morning- it had just finished raining so there was a light mist, making for great clouds and sunrise- spectacular against the red cliffs.  I felt pretty good on this run, although I'm still the most inconsistent person when it comes to pace- I'll have a 8:30 spirt, then 9:30- then 9- all over the place.  My hip was acting up a bit towards the end, I just made sure to stretch real good afterwards.  9:20 av. pace

Met my 25 mileage goal for this week, but only ran 3 days and weight liftted 1x- so 4 workouts.  Should shoot for at least 5 and then the mileage should go up too.  Still need to make a point of training on some downhill in the next couple weeks to get ready for Spectrum.

Weight lifting class this am.  I actually enjoyed it today.  Usually weight class is something I have to "endure", but today I enjoyed it.  I think I'm getting a wee bit stronger from going more regularly (only 1x a week, but going almost every week since start of new year).  Well, we'll see how I feel tomorrow as I hobble around. Anyway- plan is to run hill repeats tomorrow- up foremast, then flat, then down- over & over as many times as we can fit in an hour.

Oh yeah, and yesterday I stopped by to see Steve at SG Running Center and finally got myself a FRB blue jacket.  I really like it- should of bought one in Jan. and not waited until end of winter! If you bloggies don't have one yet- you should get one.  They are nice- and its fun to ID bloggies at races.

Yesterday I took a planned day off.  It was very nice, lots of sleep.  Then today I was supposed to get up for spin.  I was up way too late last night and couldn't get out of bed for spin! ( a result of all that rest yesterday no doubt) So I have found a designated time this afternoon for a run (while Toby's at soccer practice)  I'm logging my 6 miles in advance- hold me to it!

Yah! Followed up on my "pre-blog".  Not quite 6, but 5.75 at 8:46 av. pace.  Happy about the pace.  Planning on long run w/ Sole Sisters tomorrow.  They are all training for Boston and I'm just along for the ride, but I really get a lot out of running w/ these seasoned chics.
