IT'S 2008! Oh "I cry the day I take the tree down!" Ok, I didn't really cry- but I do hate it! I'm embarrassed to say I logged a ZERO today. I hope this isn't bad karma for me to start the new year this way. But I just HAD to take advantage of my last day of break. Last day of no work or school or gymnastics or basketball or cub scouts or volunteering at the kids' school. It just felt too good to be lazy today. I slept in late and just hung out with the kids, put away the Christmas decorations, ect. About 4:30pm I was finally able to convince Jim & Arielle to go on a walk with me. We walked about 2.5 (round trip) to the pond to feed the ducks. It was very nice. But since its a new year, I won't cheat and count that mileage- ha! Tomorrow I plan on running at least 5 miles. Hold me to it dear bloggies! |

5.47 mi. 9:27 average pace. Nice solo run today. Couldn't sleep last night, probably from all the sleeping in I've been doing lately! So I was up 'til 2am, which really screwed me up this morning. I ended up getting up at 7am to get the kids off to school, then took nap from 9-11am. Then I had to fit in work and run before kids got out of school at 3:30. Yikes. Anyway- good run. Slower pace than last run, but I'm OK with that because this was a hilly route. My legs & feet are sore. I think some new shoes are in store. Planning to go see Steve at the running in the next couple weeks. Andee- let me say THANKS for your motivating comment telling me to enjoy my 5 miles today! It was the last thing I read before I headed out the door and it really helped me get out the door! Thanks!
I'm trying to get back on the wagon after the holidays- I feel like I have one foot on the wagon, but its dragging me down the street at this point. Goal for tonight- in bed by 10:30pm and up tomorrow for a 6:30 run w/ Sara. |

6.41 mi, 9:35 av. pace.
Involuntary longer run- got lost! I was going out for a 4-5 miler and ended up not finding the street I thought would take me back. Thanks to a friendly walker, I was pointed in the right direction. I made a little loop back, it was nicer than the out & back I would've ended up doing when I realized the original imaginary street didn't exist! I'm glad I got lost, made me run further! My calves were really tight today, had to stop in the first mile & stretch. My pace was a bit slower too. Mostly that's because I wanted an easy run, but I also slowed down when I realized I was lost- for awhile I was looking for streets and looking back comtemplating if I would go on or turn back.. hee hee... This run kept me on my toes- busy road and not much shoulder.
My sister & her family of 6 come to visit tonight. I think I'll walk w/ her tomorrow and run again on Saturday afternoon. That's the plan anyway!
Oh yeah, and I did get in bed earlier last night. Not quite my 10:30 goal, but better. I think I have 1 leg firmly on the wagon now- still trying to hoist the rest of myself on, getting closer.... |

| 2.5 mile walk w/ my sister. It was a nice hilly walk, good 40 minute workout. I'm tempted to count the mileage. But I told myself I'm only counting running miles this year! |

| Whoa, I'm exhausted! I was supposed to get in a few miles today, but didn't. Jim & I went to Vegas yesterday for our anniversary (12 years!) and we got back later today than we expected. I'm so tired. It's been a whirwind couple of days. My sister and her family of 6 were staying at my house up until and even after Jim & I left for Vegas, so the holidays didn't end here until tonight! I actually forgot I was even going to try to run today until tonight and by the time I remember, I was just too spent. At least I got in 20 this week and 2 walks. Next week I'll try for the mid 20's. I'm still excited about my goal of 1200+ miles this next year! |

Happy Monday! I'm thrilled to start this week (believe it or not!) I finally feel like I can get back into a groove. (And shed those 3 holiday pounds!) My family was visiting for the holidays until this weekend. So while some of you bloggers may have gotten back to real life Jan. 2nd, mine was still topsy turvy. I had a GREAT visit w/ all my siblings and their families & my parents & grandmom. But I'm suprising myself that I am somewhat of a scheduled person. I am happy to get back on one. I got lots of sleep last night, but didn't get the early run in. I'll run this afternoon from 4:30-5:30. I've already put in 5 miles in advance. Hopefully I can come back and edit that to a little longer. We'll see!
UPDATE:
So I started the day feeling really good and have deteriorated! I was coughing a lot the past few days and today the doc told me I have an infection. So I start antibiotics today. I'm anxious to beat this thing and get back in the swing. I've had good days & bad days, but bascially I've been sick since about Dec. 18th and I'm really ready to kick this thing! Still debating about my run today, I feel really cruddy at the moment. But I think I'll put on my running shoes and head outside. If I have to walk, so be it- but at least I'll give it a try! |

| Happy day! I got out of bed this morning! That is QUITE an accomplishment for me lately. I have had one seriously UNMOTIVATED and SICK winter!! I went to the 6am pump class at the gym. It kicked my butt, but some parts of the class were actually enjoyable. I have started to fulfill one of my New Yrs. resolutions and I have already gotten my workout for the day in, I feel great! No miles yet this week, but I know they'll come. Plan to run w/ Heather tomorrow. I'll get in 6 mi. tomorrow- hold me to it. |

Beautiful day in St. George! Sunny & 50's (my guess). Glad I made myself get outside to enjoy it for an hour. Took me 1/2 the day to get my run in- but I did it! (Heather cancelled on me for the early morning run)Ran the neighborhood loop, very slow (10:04 av. pace). Goal today was just to get in 6 miles. I played a little game with myself "don't look at the Garmin". This was cool 'cause it forced me to listen to my body. Basically my body said its lazy when not under the clock- it also said its quads & calves are sore from the weight class. I think it also said I didn't eat enough breakfast or lunch to give me good energy for the run. Next time I'll watch the Garmin so I don't have to listen to my body complain so much! Oh- and let me clarify my 2 hr. nap that I filled in for today- I actually went to bed at 11pm last night and up at 5am to run w/ Heather. She cancelled so it was back to bed until 7 for me (that was the 2 hr. nap...I know you were DYING to know)
2 questions for my smart bloggies:
1. What do you do about water on runs over 6 miles? (or what is your personal limit - time or miles- when you feel you need water?) I thought about this because the water fountain that I stopped at 1/2 way through my run was turned off- so I was thirsty!
2. What are some of your favorite YUMMY 200 calorie or under snacks? (I need to revise my late night binge patterns)
Happy Running! |

My thoughts on Painter's 1/2.... I'm confident I could DO it. But I've never ran a race where I haven't run the race distance in recent training. The longest I've run in the last month is 9-something. I hate to go out and race when I'm not prepared. BUT I think I may regret not taking the opportunity to run w/ you dear bloggies. SO- should I go out and just treat it as a fun run? I'm afraid I'll sorely disappoint myself w/ my time. Can I mentally tell myself its just a fun run and not get too bent out of shape when my time sucks? Tomorrow is the registration deadline for the reduced rate. I will decide by tomorrow!
UUPDATE:
YOU GUYS ARE THE MOST SUPPORTIVE FRIENDS IN THE WORLD! Thanks so much for your encouragement! I'm gonna do it!!! I'm gonna run the half!! I'll register tomorrow! So who all will be there girls?! Michelle, Lybi?Marcie? Ruth? Amanda? Kim?Mik'L? I know I'm forgetting people... the more the merrier!
Sorry Michelle, didn't get my 1.5 hr. in. BUT I did get out there for an hour. 6 miles, 9:43 average. I forgot my IPOD- thought it would be grueling to run without it, but it was fine. I kept my mind busy by throwing in a few strides. I'm getting blisters?! Don't know what's that's all about? I definately need new shoes. I'm thinking about getting some tomorrow and running long in them Saturday. Am I crazy to attempt that? I usually wear Asics and they never give me blisters. But current pair are Saucony's. I thought I'd buy Asics again... So question:
Have any of you bought new shoes a week before a race? Did it work out for you?

Steve Hooper has offered to host the FRB Painter's pre-race party at his house! I think this would be a great alternative to Pasta Factory. Check it out on the discussion forum.
Plan for today & tomorrow.. run easy this afternoon w/ Sara. Run long tomorrow w/ Sole Sisters.
UPDATE: Ran & walked 2.85 with Sara in evening. Nice time- haven't ran with her since before the holidays so it was good catch up time. Also it was fairly mellow- just what I wanted to stretch the legs and rest up before long run tomorrow. |

12 miles w/ Buff, Heather & Tammy this morning. I ran in my new shoes. Steve hooked me up w/ Mizunos and some great socks. It was scary running 12 in brand new shoes- but NO problems- it was great! The run was tough for me today, esp. at the 6 mile mark. Once I got to 7 miles I was OK for the rest of the run. I just have a 6 mile block lately. At least I know to be mentally prepared for that Saturday. Our average pace was 9:55, which seems kinda slow- but oh well. At least I know I can run the distance for Painter's next Sat. Hopefully I won't be too sore this week. So far, so good! |

I can't believe I'm not sore from my 12 miler yesterday. That gets me really excited for Sat! (or is the pain just waiting until tomorrow to kick in?)
I'm trying to figure out my Gold, Silver, Bronze goals for this race. My 1/2 PR is 1:59 at Hurricane 1/2 last year. I really didn't want to ever run a 1/2 over 2 hrs. again- BUT I was in better shape then. From my struggles with pace in recent runs it would take a miracle to get under 2:00 this Sat. But MAIN goal for Sat. is have fun running with you bloggies- I'm thinking:
GOLD: anything under 2 hrs. SILVER: 2:05 BRONZE: 2:10
(subject to change due to peer pressure -....hee hee..)
UPDATE: The above entry I thought I was putting under Sunday- oops. Anyway- today MONDAY I ran a 5.68 foremaster loop w/ Buff & Heather. I could've been a bit longer, like 6 would've been good- but I'm pretty happy that I'm not sore and our pace was 9:17 av. I'm still loving the new Mizunos. Getting psyched for Sat!

Ah! Got 8 hrs. last night. Feels so good! I had set my alarm for the 6am weight class knowing I wouldn't really get up... I WILL get some toning and stretching in today though. Its my New Yrs. Resolution to make it to the weight class 1x a week, but last week after I went to the class, I was sore for 4 days. I decided not to do that to myself before the 1/2. So I will do upper body and abs today at home. I probably will not run today, unless I hook up w/ Sara this afternoon for an easy 4.
Wed- challenging 6 miler w/ strides
Thurs- easy 5
Friday- walk to stretch out legs before race
This is my modge podge taper plan. Just listening to my body.
Update: Snuck in 3 easy miles while my daughter was at sports practice. Ave pace 9:43. Also did some push ups. Will get in some more ab & arms in the morning at the gym. Decided to go to spin instead of run tomorrow morning.. |

Hey Guys- I copied this from Steve's post on the discussion forum. Check the discussion forum under News & Announcements/ Painter's Pre-Race Party- there's a map there to Steve's. He also needs a headcount. I still think the Hoopers are paying too much and doing too much work. I'm going to call Kendra and see what I can do to help!
Ok - Here's a little more info about the Pre-Race Pasta Dinner at Steve's House.

| Great run today! Maybe TOO good for a taper week? This either means Saturday will be a good race day or I over did it today.. Only time will tell! Decided to try out my "virtual partner" on my new Garmin. I wasn't sure what to set it at since lately it seems I've been running about 9:20 or 9:30 average. I decided to set it at 9:20 just to see if I would stay ahead of the partner on a 5-6 miler. I really suprised myself. I averaged 8:35! I knew I was going fast today, but it didn't even feel race pace or THAT fast. I felt good today- refreshed- perhaps from getting more sleep lately and drinking more water. I hope this run doesn't make me sore for Saturday! |

Just posted and it got erased. Let's try again. Tomorrow is the half- yah! Haven't worked out yet today, but plan on walking to stretch out the legs. Then in the am before race do a few strides/jogging to try to warm up. Not sure what to wear tomorrow- don't want to be too cold or weighed down. Should be about 30 degrees- any advice from you seasoned runners? (they way I see it since we're running from 9-11 am it could warm up 10 degrees in that amount of time)
It will be fun to have such a good FRB representation. Really will MISS LYBSTER & MICHELLE though! Let's run it for those gals!

PR! (beat my previous 1/2 PR by 6 minutes- maybe really about 4 minutes since this course was a bit short...)
All showered and cozied (sp?) up in my Painter's sweatshirt- time to get down to the nitty gritty race report. Whoo- hoo! I'm stoked, still on my runner high. This race and the days leading up to it were nearly perfect if only Michelle & Lybi where here to enjoy too!
Ok- start w/ FRB party last night. Really good time. Not as awkward as the first party where I didn't know anyone. This time faces were familiar and even when I saw Marcie & Josse for the first time it was like I knew them. Good food and a very nice party put on by Steve & Kendra- THANKS! (I think my family of non-runners even had fun!)
Sleep last night was good EXCEPT I got a charlie horse at 3am that woke me up in major pain! I got up and tried to walk it off, but I was really scared because it hurt to walk on. I took 800 mg ibuprofen to reduce inflamation and went back to bed (I know- I brought up ibuprofen- a no-no to some of you...) I honestly didn't know if I'd be able to run the race. I tried to go back to bed and not think about it until the morning. Luckily come morning it was almost back to normal so I went for it!
Heather & I met up a few minutes before the race and walked to warm up. I set my virtual partner (garmin) to 1:55 hoping I could make it. Let me say the 1:55 really came from Sasha's prediction for me. I probably would have been lazier and just tried to beat 1:59 my former 1/2 PR. But I'm really thankful Sasha gave me that extra push with his prediction and made me perform to a bit higher level. Heather & I stayed together almost the whole race and she finished just about 30 seconds after me. Here's the splits:
1- 8:47 feeling good, warming up, getting hot FAST
2 - 8:16 ditched the gloves & headband, feeling good
3 - 8:20 still feeling good, passed up water stop
4 - 8:10 great
5- 8:38 looking forward to water and gu in about a mile
6 - 8:07
7- 8:29
8 - 8:38
9 - 8:55- I passed up the chance to gu at mile 8 and was really fading here on mile 9, decided to take some gu without water- worked out good, glad I didn't wait any longer
10 - 8:35- back on track
11 - 8:48- things are starting to get tough, anxious to be done- saw Sasha heading back and he was a lifesaver! He really cheered me on the last 2 miles, my body didn't want to do faster than 9 min. miles after mile 11- SASHA- THANK YOU!
12 - 9:08 - hanging on, wanted to push it but was afraid I'd pass out or something
.88- 8:53 - Whew!!! Done!!
I didn't see the clock, nor was I really sure exactly where the finish line was?! My garmin clocked 12.88 for distance. So if it was an accurate course then Sasha's prediction would be just about right on for me. I'm very excited about my time!

Its been really nice to just relax last night & today. I've gotten lots of sleep and too much food! (what is it about finishing a race that makes me think I can whatever I want in huge quanity?!)
I'm pleasantly suprised that I'm not sore. My right achilles was a bit tight right out of bed this morning, but within a few minutes of walking around the house it was just fine. The only problem I have is my toes!!! Now I have tried 3 different styles of shoes in different sizes so I don't think its the shoes- it must be the way I run? The second toe on my right foot is really bruised and looks like I'll lose that toenail again. Darn- I miss cute toes!
Plan for the week:
Mon- Run
Tues- Weight class
Wed- Run or Spin
Thurs- Run
Fri- Run or Spin
Sat- Run
I'll plan on only spinning 1x this week, but will leave it open for Wed or Fri. Shooting for at least 25 miles. |

Whoa I feel lazy when I see how much sleep I've logged lately! It was nice having the kids out of school today so we could sleep in!
Put off the run until evening, then only had time for 4.20. Pretty good run- weather was perfect (40's), sun just going down. Went out a bit fast, slowed down in the middle, then sped back up. Splits 8:25/9:05/9:36/8:36/8:25 |

Opps- slept in today- didn't make 6am weight class. Turned off the alarm for 10 more minutes of sleep (now why doesn't that ever work?!) To "punish" myself have to go to Thursday's class which has the tougher teacher! LOL...
Walked for about 40 minutes (2.5 miles / 15 min. av.) this afternoon. Couldn't quite motivate myself for a run. It was a very enjoyable walk though. Was able to chat w/ mom & sis on the phone and enjoy some alone time. Nice evening temp- sweatshirt weather.
Spin in the am is the plan! Must go! Get back on the wagon after race day! |

| Looks like I'm going with goose egg today. Morning rain kept me inside (and I don't own a treadmill) I don't know how you N. Utahns put up with winter- I'm such a wimp! Anyway- when I don't get the morning run I can usually squeeze it in the afternoon while the kids are at their sports practices- but today I promised Arielle I'd stay and watch her (I've been doing the drop off & run alot lately- she's dying to show me her new gymnastic skills) SO- enough excuses already. Will really need to make up some miles Fri & Sat! |

Ah, the love / hate relationship. Finally made myself get out the door today. Slow goings- 5.26 mi., 9:57 pace -that includes crossing some streets and a stretch break (yeah, trying to make myself feel better- ha!)
So Sasha seems to think I can make a BQ this fall if I run 6 mi. 6 times a week. Problem is I'm lazy! Guess I have to decide how bad I want it. My ideal currently is to run 4x a week and crosstrain (spin & weights) the other 2 days. Maybe I'll try this out for awhile and see how my shorter spring races go...
Anyway- its FRIDAY!!! Have a very fun weekend bloggies!

5.5 on the eliptical at the gym w/ resistance. Then did a few minutes of abs. It was fun mixing it up this week, but hope my running isn't suffering- trying to find the balance. Kinda bummed that I only got 15 miles this week, but maybe I had post 1/2 blues? And I had some late nights and chose sleep over early morning runs. At least I did get in workouts most days of the week even if they weren't runs. Will push for more miles next week.

Excellent run today. Met up w/ Buff & Heather for early morning run (actually got myself out of bed!). The weather was about 48 degrees & breezy. Very nice running weather, bit if a headwind for part of the run- but not too bad- wind was actually on our back for the nasty hill so that was nice. I felt very fresh & energetic today. My challenge is to feel this fresh more often on my runs while running more frequently!

Had some snow here in St. George yesterday, it was cool. Jim & I went to lunch and when we entered the restaurant it was 60 out, when we left it was mid 30's and blowing snow- amazing how quick those storms move in!
Weight class this morning. Really enjoyed it today. Didn't try to lift TOO heavy of weights which is what I usually do, then I'm sore for days. I tried to lift just enough to feel the benefits, but not be so sore that I can't get my running in. Let's hope it worked.
Didn't get in bed early enough last night- feeling the effects of 2 nights with less than 6 hrs. sleep and probably no nap today. Will have to more self disciplined about bedtime tonight! |

| 8 broken up hrs. of sleep. I should be running today, but I feel pretty cruddy. I am sore all over. Combination of catching Arielle's cold (she's been home from school for the last 2 days coughing on me) and I think I'm also sore from weight training class. This winter bug just won't go away. Its making its 3rd appearance since Nov. at our house. Ah well, send me energy bloggies- I really should get in at least 5 today.... |

Head cold is still here, but feel better after resting yesterday and getting an OK amount of sleep last night (ok, amt. of sleep could have been better, scared to see Lybi's report- hee hee!).
Funny though, when I first got outta bed this morning I couldn't walk straight, I kept wanting to fall to the left- my balance & equilibrium were off- I guess from the head cold?... I wasn't sure if I would be able to run, but I decided to try and it was fine once I started running... weird though, never experienced anything like that.
Ran 7 mi. on treadmill at gym this morning. Couldn't brave the temps outside without a partner. Told Heather I would pick her up & she was to go to a class at gym while I ran, but I got to her house and she was still asleep. I knew she was up all night w/ toddler w/ ear infection. I've been there, no fun for Heather! I was glad I told her I'd pick her up anyway 'cause it got me up.
I actually didn't get too bored on the treadmill 'cause there's about 8 TVs w/ different channels on so I could channel surf and keep myself occupied. I'm not smarter than the treadmill so I'm not sure of my pace, it kept trying to slow down and make me cool down after an hour so my time got screwed up. Pretty good easy run, I would guess 9:50 ish av. pace. I'm all caught up on the highlights from the repub. debate last night and Britney being taken to the hospital again... blah... blah...blah...

Hey gang. So I'm supposed to run a 10k tomorrow... Any other SG people running the Tuachan Duathlon tomorrow? (not like any SG people are reading this ... ha!) I'm not excited about the race because no one is running it with me and no IPODs allowed on course- what will I do? Ah well.. better go anyway and treat it as a training run. I signed up for this race in Dec. when I was desperate to find a winter race. Then it was cancelled for bad weather and postponed until tomorrow.. Anyway...
I've still got a headcold, but not too bad. Just frustrating 'cause the nose is stuffy, ya know? I'm getting out for an easy/ yet hilly- 4 miler this afternoon.
Update- ended up doing an evening 5.75 w/ Heather instead of the 4 miler I was planning on. Pretty slow & didn't feel easy. We were dodging lots of Fri. afternoon after work traffic. Hope the 10k will be OK tomorrow!

Beautiful race today at Tuacahn! I ran the 10k portion of the Tuacahn Duathlon. Very small race, I would guess not much more than 20 runners for the 10k and probably about the same in the other races. There were 4 races going on:5k, 10k, sprint duathlon & olympic duathlon. Perfect weather (about 40 degrees), blue sky w/ red rock background. I saw Ruth before the start and we warmed up a bit together. I also introduced myself to another blogger who was wearing the racing singlet. I feel really silly now because I can't remember his name! Started with an "L", didn't look older, but he introduced me to his daughter & grandchild, so I would guess late 40's? Anyway- hope I can remember his name. NICE family! Steve H. was also there handing out water and I saw another blue jacket that I didn't recognize. So a small FRB representation, but hey- this was a small race. Ok- onto the race:
I started out way too fast, under 8 min. miles. I had set my garmin for funsies to 49:45 to see if I could break 50. My best ever 10k was a 8:17 pace on the downhill spectrum course so I knew this was a VERY ambitious goal for today. My overall pace today ended up 8:29. Definately not a PR, but I think perhaps a PR effort. This was a tough course. First 2 miles flat, then about 1.5 uphill into snow canyon park. This is where it got really interesting. There was supposed to be a spot marked turn around, I was at 3.5 mi. on my garmin and still didn't see the turn around or any water station. There was supposed to be water every mile but I only saw it at mi. 1 & mi. 2- I passed them up thinking I would get water around mi. 3 or 1/2 way through the race- none to be found. At this point I'm wondering if I should turn around to keep looking for the turnaround, then I see Ruth running back the other way- she tells me to turn around NOW! Apparently the 2 other runners ahead of me missed the turn around too, and they ran even farther than me. So I turned around. I was frustrated that I ended up running over a 7 mi. race, but it was encouraging to be the 3rd overall runner and 1st in my age group (scored a very pretty medal) (given their wasn't much competition -LOL!) I spoke w/ the race director afterwards he was really apologetic and swore there was a sign there- he doesn't know what happened to it. I believe him, because the rest of the race was really well ran. They gave out nice race packets before hand w/ a really nice waterbottle and some other trinkets. Then they had a free kids' race (1/3 mi). Each kid rec. a medal and bag of goodies w/ some nice small toys. My son LOVED that. So I'm cutting them some slack, don't know if everyone will feel that generous though... My official race time was 59-something, but that was because I ran over 7 miles! I used my Garmin virtual trainer and at 6.21 it had 52:45 for me so I'm going with that! |

1st night of sleep challenge. Lybi- I was tempted to write 9 hrs. I went to bed at 12 and couldn't sleep past 8:30 even though I didn't have to get up until 9am! I tried laying there to go back to sleep, but just couldn't....Must've been the competition stress getting to me! ha, j/k...I'm going to have to train my body to sleep in better! (Now I gotta check your blog and see how you did!)
Very nice Sunday. Great church meetings with many tributes to Pres. Hinckley. Then a little Super Bowl partying at my brother's. I know... some say no sports watching on Sundays... but we're just not that elevated (yet?) in my family!
I gotta log some good miles tomorrow, I ate quite a bit tonight watching that exciting game!

Day 2 of sleep challenge. Ok- I feel guilty that I'm winning. I'm not sure its fair stakes 'cause my kids are older. Therefore they sleep through the night and can even get their own breakfast which allows me to be REALLY LAZY!! So I got nine hrs- bed at 10:30 and up at 7:30. Which I think is good, except that I slept through an invite to be at the gym at 6am to run w/ Buff & Heather... oh twist my arm to stay in bed longer...
So- I gotta make up the miles today. I'm about to go volunteer in Toby's class, then I will drive straight to the gym and run for an hour. We'll just have to call this a 2hr lunch break from working on mortgages at home. (Can you believe the streets are covered w/ snow & ice in St. George today?)
Got to the gym for 5 miles on the dreadmill. The novelty of all the TV screens has worn off, 5 miles felt really long on the dreadmill today. But I feel so great that I got the workout! |

Day 4 of sleep competition. The LYBSTER is putting up a really good fight! Last night I logged almost 9 hrs, trying to take back the lead!
Will run 6 later today.
Yeah, the distance for today is pretty laughable. I can blame it on work, kids & hubby- but I know I really just need to get a more committed attitude. Anyway- snuck in the 2.15, hoping to get in a couple more later today- but the evening is looking hectic so we'll see. I think all this sleep is interferring with workout time- LOL! |

Ridiculous amount of sleep last night. I ran to bed at 9pm thinking I'd be up at 5:30 for a run. However- running partner bailed , so I slept until the last possible minute that I would have to get up and get kids ready for school on time (9pm-7:50) SO- I think that MUST put me back in lead. I'm glad we are changing the stakes for loser, we decided we just didn't feel good about dragging poor Sasha into it. We are deciding on some other personal torture like house cleaning, long run or combination!
Goal- 6 miles today. Didn't do it yesterday, must today for my sanity. Tomorrow spin class, Sat. long run.
Happy to report that I did it- got out there and got some miles in. Inspired by a quote on Benn's blog (coined by our own Sasha) something like.."Just get out there and let the run happen"...Ah, I feel so much better now... 6.10, 9:36 av pace, ran for a couple minutes shy of 1 hr, need to get it up to an hour.

Nice long run w/ Sole Sisters today. They were actually going 12 mi., I had to cut it short to get to Toby's BB practice. Still, good run. 9:22 pace. Glad I met with them so that I could be motivated to go longer than I would've alone. This was probably my longest run since Painter's 1/2. I was hoping for a training run today in the double digits, but due to a late start waiting for all the sisters to arrive, the niner will have to do. Let me tell ya, this is a cool group of women. Most are in their early 40's and all getting ready to run Boston (again) They are a hoot. One of them runs by every fast food / drive thru window and car wash stall and looks for lose change. She's up to $100 she's collected on runs.... Crazy? maybe... but fun!
Last night was the final night of sleep competition (I think?) I didn't log too many Zzzz's last night so maybe Lybi caught up? I'm glad its over. I decided too much sleep makes me a LAZY gal. Ready to get back to my 7 & 7.5 hr. nights!
Well- off for some more family fun (watch Arielle's dance and hopefully go out & grab a bite to eat)
Have a great weekend everyone!

4 miles with Heather this morning at 9:20 pace. We cut it short so she could get home and make BD breakfast for her daughter. I didn't mind, my knee and hip on the left leg are a bit sore so I thought it was good to ease into this week. Tomorrow weight lifting class.

Slept in and skipped weight lifting class. Now must go to Thursday's class as punishment (harder teacher!) Am going to run while Arielle is at gymnastics this afternoon- should have time for about 5 miles. Going to sign up for Spectrum 10k this week!
Phew! Got the 5 miler in. It was a really nice solo run in the afternoon. Don't hate me you Northerners, but I was able to sport a singlet in the 68 degrees, sunny weather! Av. pace 8:52. I'm always happy when I average close or UNDER 9 min. miles. Run could've been longer, felt like I had a couple more miles in me, but time didn't allow. Tomorrow morning meeting Buff & Heather for a good 6 miler w/ hills. |

We decided to go w/ the shorter, tougher run today. We ran a foremaster loop w/ 3 foremaster hill repeats. It was great! 4.57 w/ 9:37 av. pace. I'm pleased w/ that pace on hill repeats. Haven't done hill repeats in awhile and I love how I feel after doing hills, makes other inclines seem easy. Tomorrow- weight class. Friday I get to hopefully run w/ Michelle! Then Sat. long run.
My hip is bothering me. I need to do some research. Its like the top of my hip where it connects to my back (not thigh) Hurts when I twist or turn and sometimes when I run. A little sore after runs. Not too bad yet, but I think its getting worse not better over the last 3-4 days. Don't know what I did to it or if its running related? |

Happy Valentine's Day!
Here's my reasons for my goose egg today:
1. Resting my hip & other aches & pains
2. Want to be "fresh" on my runs the next 2 days
3. Stayed up too late last night
4. I'm lazy
5. To steal from Jody- no new episodes of The Office
6. Giant chocolate chip cookies don't make for good running fuel
Ok- really the first 3 reasons will suffice...
I will do some light toning today and perhaps a walk. Then back to the grind tomorrow!
Today will be filled with elementary school Valentine's Day Parties and entirely too much sugar! My 5th grade son is having an etiquette "dance", they had to get all dressed up to go to school. Should be a hoot!
CHANGE OF HEART... after reading some blogs and getting inspired, I decided I should show myself some love today- after all its Valentine's! I'm going to plan on getting in a couple miles while waiting for kids during some of their activities this afternoon. I'll make them slow, easy, "body be good" miles....

Met Heather this morning for 4.56 at 9:15 av. pace. Shorter run than I was planning on. I felt in slow-mo this morning, just couldn't get it going. My distances this week have been wimpy! But, on the other hand, I will get in a day more of running this week than I normally do- so I guess I should be proud of that. Going out w/ the Sole Sisters in the am for the long run, I think I'll just do a 9 or 10 tomorrow, don't want to do a big jump in distance from last week's long run- don't want to aggrivate the hip. (Missed you this morning Michelle, hope you're enjoying a St. George get away!)

Nice 9-er w/ Heather & Buff today. 9:15 av. pace. Met up early at the gym and did a loop around Green Springs. Felt pretty good energy the whole run, took 1 gu 1/2 way, but the non-caffeine kind. Started to feel the hip right at the end of the run, so 9 was probably good for today. Will try a bit longer next weekend, like maybe 11 or 12. Felt good about mileage this week and getting out 5 days, I usually only get out 4 it seems... Need to run some downhill in the next couple weeks to get ready for Spectrum 10k- my quads are feeling weak lately on downhill, slow... Another goal is I'd like my av. pace to be faster, like closer to 9 mi., instead of 9:15, but I guess that will just come with more mileage.
Off to spend the Sat. w/ my sweetheart (finally celebrate Valentine's)
Have a great weekend bloggies!!

Great run w/ Jody this morning! Glad I got outta bed (tempted to sleep in since kids don't have school today and don't need to be anywhere early...)Met up w/ Jody for a nice flat run. Great conversation and we still kept a 8:53 av. pace. Anytime I'm under 9 min. miles I'm stoked! This was a great run. Its nice that Jody & I can hookup when we go back & forth visiting our families in SLC and SG.
Now off to find some fun this Pres. Day Holiday (not quite sure what that is yet)

Nice 12-er w/ Sole Sisters today. There were 9 of us which made for a big, fun group of gals dodging traffic. Beautiful morning- it had just finished raining so there was a light mist, making for great clouds and sunrise- spectacular against the red cliffs. I felt pretty good on this run, although I'm still the most inconsistent person when it comes to pace- I'll have a 8:30 spirt, then 9:30- then 9- all over the place. My hip was acting up a bit towards the end, I just made sure to stretch real good afterwards. 9:20 av. pace
Met my 25 mileage goal for this week, but only ran 3 days and weight liftted 1x- so 4 workouts. Should shoot for at least 5 and then the mileage should go up too. Still need to make a point of training on some downhill in the next couple weeks to get ready for Spectrum. |

Weight lifting class this am. I actually enjoyed it today. Usually weight class is something I have to "endure", but today I enjoyed it. I think I'm getting a wee bit stronger from going more regularly (only 1x a week, but going almost every week since start of new year). Well, we'll see how I feel tomorrow as I hobble around. Anyway- plan is to run hill repeats tomorrow- up foremast, then flat, then down- over & over as many times as we can fit in an hour.
Oh yeah, and yesterday I stopped by to see Steve at SG Running Center and finally got myself a FRB blue jacket. I really like it- should of bought one in Jan. and not waited until end of winter! If you bloggies don't have one yet- you should get one. They are nice- and its fun to ID bloggies at races.

Yesterday I took a planned day off. It was very nice, lots of sleep. Then today I was supposed to get up for spin. I was up way too late last night and couldn't get out of bed for spin! ( a result of all that rest yesterday no doubt) So I have found a designated time this afternoon for a run (while Toby's at soccer practice) I'm logging my 6 miles in advance- hold me to it!
Yah! Followed up on my "pre-blog". Not quite 6, but 5.75 at 8:46 av. pace. Happy about the pace. Planning on long run w/ Sole Sisters tomorrow. They are all training for Boston and I'm just along for the ride, but I really get a lot out of running w/ these seasoned chics.

Great run w/ Sole Sisters today. There was 9 of us again, so fun! I got to meet a great gal who some of you bloggies know (Theresa Peterson) I know Dave Holt & Mik'L know her. I tried to convince her to join the blog! I always tell these girls this, but I think they think its an overwhelming chore to get on the blog or something. I told them its VERY user friendly. Hopefully we'll see some of them join soon. Anyway- Theresa offered to get a group of kids together to helping the 5k I'm organizing for next year, it will be great to have her on board. She's experienced with race organizing!
Anyway- 14 mi. at 9:15 pace, I swear it felt faster than that! These chics keep me on my toes!
I'm happy about my mileage this week. I've been averaging 25, but this week is 29.75 - I'll call it 30! And the best thing about it is that the increase felt natural. I hope I can keep closer to 30 miles weekly for awhile without burnout.

Ok- so Sat. I was like " la, la , la... I ran 14 miles and feel so great.. la, la, la..." yeah, classic runner high talking there!
Then I had to get out of bed Sun. & Monday! (not so great) Actually I feel really good except my right achilles- its not too bad, just tight when I first wake up, then I walk it off. But I decided not to pound pavement today because I don't want to aggravate the achilles anymore. I'm going to the gym to ride the bike later today. Then weight class tomorrow and back to pounding pavement the rest of the week!
CONGRATS to our Del Sol team who seriously ROCKED that race (as we knew they would!) And also to all you other bloggies who shined at the races this weekend!

Squeezed in 4 miles today. I was supposed to get up and do hills, but I wasn't feeling good about doing that w/ my achilles acting the way it has been. So I opted for a few flat miles, around 3.5 mi. the achilles was getting tight w/ some lovely crunchy/ grinding noises. Doesn't really hurt, but still makes me nervous. I'll just have to watch it I guess.
Otherwise a beautiful afternoon run, mid 50's, great t-shirt weather. Went out on a trail alone, no IPOD or garmin (not by choice- neither are working- bummer) But it was nice to just run alone w/ my thoughts, waving to passing runners & bikers...

Great 7 miler w/ Heather & Buff today. I wasn't feeling as smooth as yesterday's run, but still pretty good. We threw in a few rolling hills (pretty course up around Green Springs) and I was impressed that we kept a 9:00 average even with all the gabbing. In fact the last 4 miles were under 9:00 with the last 3 mi. about 8:35. So I'm happy with this run. I tried to stretch real good afterwards to avoid a tight achilles. I hope I'll be ready for Spectrum. I run again tomorrow. Then the fam is off to CA this Sun- Wed. for some Spring Break fun, can't wait! Hopefully slacking off those days won't affect too much at Spectrum on the 15th.
Have an excellent weekend!!

Couldn't resist sleeping in today! It was the perfect day to sleep in. My hubby's been working night shifts and he was actually home this morning so it was nice to wake up next to him (too much info for the blog probably- sorry...) Anyway, I should've met up with the gals for a long run, but the temptation of sleeping in and the achilles caused me to slack. The achilles was clicking a bit last night and I figure I should give it a teeny rest. I'm going to see if our hotel in CA has a treadmill so that I can hopefully get a few miles next week. This is somewhat of a taper week- got Spectrum next Sat. But its only a 10k, so probably shouldn't taper too much.
Anyhow- I won't be online until Thurs or Friday of next week- so all you bloggies have a great week! I hope I get to read those Sat. race reports before I leave town.
Happy Running! (or shuffling, whatever the case may be!)

Hey Ya'll ! I'm back from a wonderful CA vacation! 2 days at Huntington Bch and 2 full Disney days. No treadmill at the hotel and NO miles logged since last Friday- almost a week- yikes! I did LOTS of walking (2, 12 hr. days in Disney) so I hope that counts for something. I have Spectrum Sat. so I'm kinda nervous since I haven't logged enough miles lately. I'm planning on dragging myself out for a mellow 7 miler this afternoon/ evening.
Got in 6 mi. this afternoon. Av pace 9:10. Good news, I can still run- although it wasn't fast or pretty! Very nice afternoon, time to bust out the sleeveless shirts & shorts- it was warm! Good views, nice flat run around washington fields. |

| Tomorrow is Spectrum 10k. At least I can say I'm well rested and well fed going into it. That's about where my preparation ends! The time to beat from last year is 52:34. I'm not even going to set Gold, Silver, Bronze- just hope to beat my time, that's ambitious enough just coming off a week of vacationing and hardly any miles! I would really like to get under 50 min for a 10k- one day- but I would have to sprout wings for that to happen tomorrow. However, at least I'll get in a nice scenic 6 miler through Snow Canyon (love this course!) and hopefully see some bloggies. Good luck to all you other racers & have a GREAT weekend! |

WOW! The day started out rough. I tossed & turned all night- probably from drinking a diet pepsi too close to bedtime (dumb!). Then my stomach felt yucky, could hardly get any breakfast down. So I was kinda nervous how it would all turn out. I AM THRILLED!! I finally got a 10K time in the 40's! That was my ultimate goal that I really did not think would happen today. I started out close to front of pack (6:59 1st mile) I figured I started too fast and would burn out, but I think that fast mile actually helped me make my overall time. From there I slowed down considerably- splits were:
1- 6:59
2-8:03
3-7:36
4-8:09
5-8:18
6-8:16
last .16- 7:26
I knew I had to stay under 8 min. miles to make my goal and thanks to a great downhill course and a good mile 1 & 3, I was able to do it. Weather was perfect. Crowd actually seemed a bit smaller to me than last year? Good bloggie turn out! Great results from many of them: Nick, Clyde, Dave, Steve, Bill, Dustin, Lyndsey, Mike Thomas (who I met today), Mik'L, Bonnie, Ally, Linda and MARCIE took 1st in women overall- she ROCKS! Sorry, I'm sure I'm forgetting some bloggies' names- it was fun to see you all! |

A bit sore today, but not too bad. Mostly stiff ankles & lower calves. I've decided I'm not doing Strider's 1/2. Instead I will just do Run for Kids 5k in April and try to PR, then Hurricane 1/2 in May. On Saturdays I'll be doing long runs w/ Sole Sisters & another friend who's training for a 50K.
Enjoying every bit of this lazy Sunday- kids have to go back to school tomorrow- Spring Break is over- whahh.... |

Was supposed to get up and meet Heather for a 6 miler, but I felt crummy! Sore throat, and stiff legs from the race Sat. I hoped sleeping another couple hours would help. My legs feel a bit better, but still feel a cold coming on- yuck.
I think I'll try to get out for a little 3 or 4 miler this afternoon. |

Weight Lifting class this morning. Wow- the weights feel heavy after taking a week or so off! And I'm so TIRED after the class. BUT I did it ! And I feel GREAT about that! Now tomorrow Heather's trying to drag me on a 14 miler (she's training for a 50K!) So I guess I'll do a longish run tomorrow, just listen to the body and see how far I feel like going.
Just got back from vacation so its time to plan another! (hee hee...) I admit it, I'm a vacation addict, a junkie! Just booked a flight to FL for this summer. My in laws live down there and that's where I'm from so there's lots of family to see and its easy to rationalize. Just gotta try to keep the Easter candy away so I can be beach ready for June! (Only had the money for the flight now, so I guess we'll be sleeping on the street and walking to all our destinations...) |

| 12 miler today. Just tagging along w/ Heather & Buff as they train for Boston & a 50k. My next race isn't until Hurricane 1/2 in May (oh and an April 5k). I ran w/ them for about 9.5, then left and ran home for the 12 mi. total. I think they got about the same distance in. We averaged 9:30ish for the first 9.5 while all 3 of us were together then I slowed down to 10:40ish/miles for the last uphill 2.5. My body was sluggish- still recovering from 10k last Sat. AND I have had low mileage weeks the last 2 weeks so my body just wasn't into it. But I'm glad I made myself get out there this morning. I think I'll spin tomorrow and run again Fri & Sat. Hope to get my weekly mi. average back up to mid 20s this week. |

Slept in. Felt great. Body really wanted it. Lower calves are kinda tight from race Sat. then long run so soon afterwards. But feels like it will get walked off today. Alot on the plate today: work, cleaning house (RS mtg here tonight), and packing and getting ready to leave town AGAIN tomorrow. Not really keen on leaving town again, but have some family from FL in SLC for the weekend so figured I'd better take advantage of seeing them and spending Easter w/ my parents. My kids are really excited to see their cousins. I'm committed to getting in a run this afternoon while waiting for my daughter during her gymnastics. (PREBLOGGING 4 miles for this afternoon, I know its dumb, but it helps me get out the door later in the day on the days that I sleep in- so hold me to those 4 miles!)
Something my pump teacher said this week in class really inspired me- in the middle of killing us w/ weighted lunges she said- "you are working so hard right now for your body, I want you to take that same effort and apply it to your diet and nutrition". That comment has stuck with me this week. I'm pretty good about working out, but I eat really junkie! I decided I need to put more effort into my diet and making healthier choices. The last couple days I've been trying to consciously make wiser choices and I feel reallly good about it!
Shoot! Preblogging failed today. No miles later in the day. Got really busy, lots of excuses- you all know its bunk. Just need to try harder!

Update :Decided to quit my fussing and go for a run! Got 'er done. 4 mi. at 9:18 av.
Last 2 days not going as planned. My fault for sleeping in yesterday then hoping to get a later run in. That only really happens 50% of the time and yesterday it didn't! Today I had plans to run w/ Heather and she dogged so I slept in again. Can't believe I'm admitting all this slackerness! Anyway- going to SLC today. Must get in some miles! I think it will be easier once I get to SLC because I'll be on vacation w/ more free time. Right now its the finish work, church calling stuff, pack & get kids ready push.... |

Whoa- I think that may be the longest break I've taken from "the blog". I have been really lazy and loving it lately. Not sure what my problem is?! (no I'm not pregnant). Anyway- I actually felt like running today for the first time since last Friday, so I just took it easy- no watch. I'm guessing from my slow pace I got in about 3.25 mi. at about 9:30 pace.
It was a delightful afternoon, warm (high 70s) but the breeze made it enjoyable. I'm starting to rethink my exercise goals. There's just so much I want to do! I love to be outside, but I also like weights, spin & I want to add pilates. We'll just see how it goes. For now, I'm focused on a new 5k PR next month at Run for Kids and we'll just take it from there.
I also (finally) started a family blog and I'm having to split my online addiction between both places!
Another change- I'm seriously thinking of changing careers. I've been doing mortgages for over 10 yrs (15 if you count part time while in college) And its served me well. But as you all have heard (and read) in the news - the industry is drastically changing. Think it may be time to do something else. I've kinda wanted to change fields for a couple years, but I hung in there because it was convenient, good money (not to mention my loyalty to the family business). Now its tougher to make money in this field (I spend my days bashing my head against brick walls trying to get deals done). I think its time to jump into something new. I have a bachelor's degree in Psych and always wanted to use it in some kind of counseling area. You can't do much without a master's, but I have talked to a friend who work for the state and I'm trying to get a job with her. Should be a challenge- don't get to work from home, etc. Not to mention the emotional challenges of working with families in need- but I'm up for the challenge!

Anyway- 4.25 on nice flat Little Valley loop. Warm & beautiful today. Spring in St. George may actually be here to stay. How come the best running frequently comes at the END of the run, it takes me like 3 miles to warm up and get in the groove. Last mile was under 9 min miles. Would like to see more of those. 9:19 av. today. |

So I've quit using the sleep monitoring, one less thing to keep track of. But let's just say, I'm getting plenty of sleep (hee hee) Plenty of sleep- except for today, of course. I got up at 4:30 to meet friends at 5am. The boston girls were running a 20 miler, I just hung with them for 11 (9:37 av. pace). No need to torture myself that much right now since all I have coming up is a 5k in April and 1/2 in May.
I felt good on this run, great company as usual. Hope I can fit in a nap so I can stay up past 8pm tonight, this run is going to make me tired!
My baby (Arielle) gets baptized today! Fun day- family & friends in town. We'll probably head to the new splash park, then baptism tonight. Jim gets to give the talk on Holy Ghost, should be entertaining... hee hee... Just glad he answered the phone (and not me) when the guy from the stake who assigns talks called!

Hey bloggies! Only 2 so far today, and these are walking miles. Yes, I'm back to blogging walking miles (slacker) I'm so lazy lately I figure I better count any mile I can- hee hee!
I hope to squeeze in a few more RUNNING miles this afternoon while son's at soccer practice.
Had a very nice RS BD party enrichment last night. Had a great slide show of the sister's hands doing service to "My Sisters Hands" by Sally Deford. Kicked off a ward humanitarian project and also played a purse scavenger hunt (planted some funny items in people's purses) It was lots of fun. Glad its over though, I was in charge of it and can breath easy now.
Good luck to Kim & Lybi with your halfs tommorrow! And all you other racing bloggies. Can't wait to read the reports!
(2 more walking miles this afternoon. Wore the garmin, said I ONLY burned 133 calories in 38 minutes- that's enough motivation to make me RUN next time!) |

Long run w/ Sole Sisters today (Buff, Steph, Shelly, Theresa T. & Sara) I felt pretty good on this run, a little slow & a teeny bit of hip soreness, but nothing lasting. Great group of gals to pass the miles with. 9:40 av pace (I took my garmin off auto pause so I'd like to think we were actually running faster than 9:40 av., but if so- not much) They are all getting ready for Boston on the 14th and the energy was great today, I'm so excited for them!
Can't wait to read race reports today! Many of the FRB are racing as I type this in my robe (hee hee)
Yay! I realized I finally hit 25 mi. again for the week. I did cheat a bit by logging some walking miles, but I still feel good about getting my mileage back up & starting off the month on the right food.

I'm feeling quite flabby since not going to weight class last week or this week so far. I think I'll bust out an old weight video and do it at home today. Then my plan is to get in some miles while waiting for daughter to do her gymnastics. I slept in again like a lump today, I need to meet Heather & Buff early tomorrow morning so I can break this lazy trend.
Obviously I can't keep my days straight this week! Kim & Andi pointed out that I got ahead of myself. Tues. I actually ran 4 in the afternoon. Now I will try to go correct Wed.! |

4 miles this afternoon, 9:38 av. pace. Took me a good couple miles to warm up first 2 miles were slow, last 2 under 9 min. miles. Good reminder that I need to WARM UP before the 5k this Sat. 5ks are too short to try to get warmed up during them.
It was a very nice afternoon, but windy! I didn't mind the wind because I was doing an easy run and the cooler wind felt nice- but it made me think of you all who ran the windy 1/2 marathon last weekend- that must have been TOUGH, and you all still got amazing times- kudos to you!
Also got in about 45 minutes of upper body weights & toning today (then went to Bajio's for lunch, oh well!)
Blah, blah, blah. All of the entry above in black is actually Tueday's workout! Wed. I went to the gym and ran 4.5! Better luck next week keeping my days straight! |

Went to gym to run 4.5 on treadmill. Tried to really challenge myself with speed and a little incline. Not sure how ready I am for the 5k Saturday, but a good workout today regardless.
HA HA! I may be into "pre-blogging" once in awhile. But this is taking it to the extreme! On Tues. I got ahead of myself and logged a few workouts that way without even realizing it- duh! When Thurs (tomorrow) actually comes, I'll log it in blue!
OK- its actually Thursday now (I have been in a time warp and confused my days, yes- I'm probably insane) So far this week my workouts have been:
MON- 2 miles tough hike, 2 miles walk
TUES- 4 miles running
WED- 4.25 tempo run
* * * * * *
THURS- (TODAY,yeah, I'm pretty sure- ha ha) plan is to hike or run this afternoon. I should do weights today, but don't want to be sore for race Sat, so I'll just go for some light cardio today (ended up with a 2 mi. walk w/ Hubby today)
FRI- Plan to run hard or Spin (made plans to run 6 w/ Heather Fri. am)
SAT- Run For Kids 5k
I should finish up w/ just about 25 miles this week |

Wow- it feels good to type a new, fresh entry (after screwing up my entries earlier this week)
Today I met up w/ Heather for 5 mi. around my hilly neighborhood. We haven't run together for a week and had lots of "catching up" to do. I was happy that we kept a 9:19 pace with all the hills & talking.
Tomorrow is the Run 4 Kids 5k. It'll be fun to see the bloggies and meet Kim! Also have some friends from my ward going to race: Lanae (10K) Lanae has 9 great kids, don't know how she find the time to train, she's amazing! Sara (I think this will be her 2nd 5k?) & Andi. Its Andi's first race- GO ANDI! (Andi is also a supermom of 7 children!)
Ok- I have a weird question for the bloggies- does anyone out there experience a flushed face when they eat candy (chocolate or any sugary candy?) This is new for me, the past few weeks. Could be perimenopausal stuff, or maybe just a blood sugar spike? Either way, its obvious I need to cut out the sugary junk food & this may be just the push I need to do it. The face flushing (feels very hot w/ very light perspiration) seems to be getting worse each time I eat candy. Cookies & other sweets are OK, but straight candy or chocolate get me bad. I'm sure you all think I'm crazy, just wondering if anyone else has heard of or experienced this? |

I'll get my moaning over with early in the report. Whah! I really wanted to PR and to place (who doesn't right?!) I knew it would be hard to beat my 5k time from last year on this run (24:25) but I really thought I could, even if just by a few seconds. Last year I can in 4th, really wanted to pull out the 3rd this year. Well, it wasn't my race today. Came in 6 seconds slower than last year and 5th in my age division. Shoot! The hill in the 3rd mile killed me, I was keeping about 7:41 until the incline, then I slowed down to 8- something. Lesson learned is to not slack off so much on my mileage. March was a pretty low mileage month for me and I think this is the results. I guess I also have to start facing the reality that every run will NOT be a PR.
OK- now for the fun report...
This race was fun for the whole family (well, except maybe my hubby- who is always a good sport to get dragged to these races over & over). My kids did the 1k and they really had fun. They both ran strong & fast (Toby came in like 4th behind some older kids). Kids got some nice bouncy balls (like dodgeball size) and a medal. They were stoked!
Also fun today because two of my dear friends were running it- Sara & Andi. This was Andi's 1st race ever & Sara's 2nd. They both did great and looked strong coming across the finish. Lenae, a neighbor also ran it and did awesome. Another highlight for me today was finally meeting KIM! She is so cute, can't believe she's old enough to have a missionary, she looks so young & hip. We got to chat a bit at the start & finish- CONGRATS to her on her 2nd place win! Go Kim! Not too many gals from the blog, but did have a good representation of guys from the blog- Dave, Steve H., Dustin, Clyde, Wildbull, Tom (I'm sure I'm forgetting people)- all looking strong and finishing early in the 10k. Got to meet another Steve (not Hooper)from the blog today as well, but he was on crutches, so no run for him (wish him a fast recovery).
Anyway- fun day & run for a good cause. Here's some pics!

Yay for getting up early and getting the miles in. Met Heather got in almost 6. We were kinda slow (9:49) but that's Ok since I just raced & she ran a 22 miler on Sat. Although, I'm not sore from my race at all, so I shouldn't let that be an excuse.
(Past) Time to get serious about the Hurricane 1/2 next month and start putting in the miles!

Great run w/ Buff & Heather. Buff is heading to Boston tomorrow, her excitement is contagious! Love it! I need to get my butt outta bed and run with these girls more often, makes me run faster (9:19 av today) Anyway- gotta run to son's track meet. I get to help be a "picker" at the finish line- good times! More bloggin' later. Have a great day!
Update: My son did AWESOME at his track meet! (I feel cheezy saying "my son" & not his name, but my hubby is really concerned about too much kid info being put online. I have a private family blog I'd love to share with any of you who are interested, I will "private message" you the link) ANYWAY- He took a 1st, two 2nds and possibly another 2nd (still waiting results on an event) It was a fun day & his dad & I were both able to be there. We are blessed.
SO- I would love to get a little group of St. George bloggies together to run 12-14 mi. this Sat. morning if anyone is interested. This would be a bit slower than the running store group, probably more like 10 min. miles (maybe 9ish depending on who is in) Not really interested in speed, just miles. Please come, help me train for Hurricane Half! Anybody interested? |

Went to pump class today. Great class, I love feeling like I'm doing at least a little something for the arms & abs (even though I have quite a way to go in improving those areas!)
Tomorrow Heather & I are going to run 14 at 5:30 am, better get in bed early tonight! |

| 12 w/ Heather today. Nice route w/ 2 loops, a flat wash field loop & hilly bloomington hills loop. 9:34 pace, not too bad considering all the hills the 2nd half. I feel pretty good after 12, but wish it was 14. I like to go over race distance a couple times before the race- Hurricane Half in 2 weeks. Tomorrow I'm running 10 w/ Heather again so she can hit her 40+ for the week. We'll see how I do w/ 2 back to back long runs, but right now I feel good (we'll see what 48 hrs. brings -ha!) Mad that I spaced 'The Office' last night & I do not have Tivo! I just forgot it was on. Darn, will have to catch rerun or video. Was it good? |

I've been tracking my friends who are running Boston today- jealous! I know they are having a ball!
Last week was such a great mileage week for me , I'm going to see if I can match it. I've been inspired by Clyde & Sasha who are running their birthday miles on their BDs (like 35 miles for Sasha today on his 35th birthday!) My 35th BD is this Sat- so my adaptation is that I'm going to run 35 miles this week! (yeah, I'm crazy, I just admitted my old age...)
Plan for week:
Tues-5
Wed-10
Thurs- weight class
Fri- 6
Sat- 14
I'm going to get in a couple miles this afternoon just to solidify my mileage for the week. |

| Long run tonight. And when I say long, I mean LONG, as in SLOW! Met up w/ Heather, Chris, Matt & Nephi. Everyone was having issues- tummy issues, knee issues, etc. I think running in the evening was throwing everyone off. This route had a couple TOUGH hills too. But we got 'er done, over 10 miles. I won't even begin to tell you how long it took! Pretty run around Sand Hollow Reservoir, started out warm, but cooled off to perfection for the most of the run. Less than 25 miles to go this week to meet my goal. |

4 brutal miles today. Went out in the afternoon when it was HOT (80s) & I was super sluggish. I think my diet lately is a BIG factor. NO MORE DIET COKE! Ok, I know I can't go cold turkey (or don't want to) So, I'm going to allow 1x a week! Otherwise run was nice in the sense that I ran around the temple in a quiet neighborhood w/ wide streets. Temple looks gorgeous this time of year, nice flowers out front. Need to take the family one evening. 20.5 miles 'til goal! |

You say its your birthday...na..na..na..na..na..na..Its my birthday too yeah!
OK- It really is my 35th birthday today AND I finished my goal of running 35 miles this week! Sure, I had to do over 17 today because I procrastinated, but as long as I can walk next week its all good- right? hee hee.
Had a very nice run w/ Heather & Chris. Matt & Nephi joined us for about 9 mi. of it. Matt, Chris & Nephi are a hoot. Matt & Chris are Nephi's parents. Nephi is 10 and ran the marathon last year & is doing it again this year- amazing! He has endless energy. Anyway we ran around Hurricane & got the scenic tour. First by a beautiful golf course, then some highway and even some trailer parks- a bit of everything! It was a great way to spend my BD morning.
There are 2 reasons (and really ONLY 2) that its good to be 35. First- I GET 5 MORE MINUTES TO QUALIFY FOR BOSTON! and Second- I get to move to 35-39 age category. But I'm kinda thinking #2 isn't really that great 'cause there are too many women that age that can kick my butt. But the #1 reason does rock!
Have a GREAT weekend bloggies!

| Great run with Heather & Buff today (9:38 av). Nice to have Buff back (after her trip to Boston last week) She always gives us the little push we need. Last week I ran with Matt my "therapist" friend. One downside to running long runs w/ therapist friends- COUNSELING whether you want it or not! Hee, hee, luv ya Matt! He brought to my attention that I may very well be addicted to blogging. Ha! And he had that figured out in the first couple miles. Of course I was just trying to give a good plug for my dear FRB, but I think it backfired. Now I will be watching my time online & trying to limit it! |

Nice workout today. It was a bit shorter in mileage than I wanted, but it had some tough hills, so I guess that's gotta count for something. I ran holding a bottle of water which is annoying, but necessary with the heat now, glad I had it and drank often. I messed up the garmin, so not sure of my splits, but know I was averaging about 9:15- so that's decent. I've set some goals for Hurricane Half this Sat. I know I've put in some decent mileage lately, but I haven't challenged myself at all in speed, if anything I've slowed down- so no idea what to expect. I really want to break 1:50, my Painter's 1/2 time was 1:53. Even though I've run the Hurricane 1/2 twice before, I'm not sure how it compares to Painter's course as far as what I should expect on time.
GOLD- 1:49
SILVER- 1:52
BRONZE- 1:55
My sister asked me to join her in the 30 day Nivea challenge today (www.niveachallenge.com). I was happy for the motivation so I said yes! I know, I know- it involves hokey cellulite cream, but they also have some great diet tips & motivation. So heck -what have I got to loose?!(except maybe 10 lbs and some cellulite) Plus at the end of 30 days I'll be going on our summer vacation to Clearwater Beach, FL. So the timing to do the challenge couldn't be more perfect (and I get to do it w/ my sister, even more fun)! I wasn't going to start until tomorrow- May 1st, but I started today. So far I've ate good & had a great run. Only downfall was the chocolate chip cookies that I made yesterday, but keeping the food journal is helping me realize how often I graze on them. I will try to avoid them tomorrow!

| I hiked Three Pools trail in Snow Canyon with 5th graders on a field trip today. Over 3 hrs. of walking in sand roundtrip (that does include a short break to eat sack lunches) I'm definately counting this mileage! It was a good workout, nice weather (high 60's) and good company. Chatted with another mom of course because our 5th graders were way too busy with their friends to care that we were there! I did get to sit by my son on the bus ride there and eat lunch with him, that was nice. I was so tired on the bus ride home, felt like I just ran 10 mi. or something. Tomorrow I run 6 w/ Heather in am, then Hurricane Half on Saturday. |

6 miles w/ my gals today. Happy with the 9:17 pace, quickest overall pace I've had on a run in a couple weeks. Tomorrow is Hurricane Half, I haven't had much time to even think about it! Been busy w/ end of school year stuff (Teacher Appreciation, Field Trips). Then today I had my interview as a Social Worker for the state- kinda intimidating- 5 people sitting around a conference table asking tough questions. I think I did OK, just hope I have the kind of experience (or lack thereof- ha!) that they are looking for. |

The Positive:
- Beat my time from last year on this course by over 4 minutes
- Good weather for a race, even though cold to start, ended up perfect temp and NO real wind to contend with
- Started at a good pace, didn't go out too fast, felt better at mile 11 than I did at Painter's, finished better
- Miles 1-3, ran my target pace (under 8:23) felt good except for shoe issue (I'll address later)
- Miles 8-10, my favorite part of this race, great downhill where I opened up and ran pretty well (even averaging 7:24 on mi. 9)
- Hanging out with my runner friends & their families! They are so fun & did awesome too. FRB well represented- Steve 1st! Marcie 3rd! Sunny 2nd on her FIRST EVER 5k! Not sure of Dustin or Bill's time, but I know they rocked. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting, sorry!
- Despite the hills, I still LIKE this course- must be the scenery and wide open roads
The Negative
- Had to pull over and fix shoe (take it off and everything) during mile 2, I had a lump- probably sand. Ate up some time, but I did seem to get it fixed.
- Underestimated the hills! You'd think I'd remember since this was my 3rd time running this- but I really did underestimate them and on miles 4-7 and part of 11 & 12 pace suffered on hills
- Mile 5 had to take potty break, even stand in line! Must've lost at least a couple minutes here
- Didn't make my goal of breaking 1:50, maybe it was too ambitious?
Lessons Learned
- Don't use running shoes for sandy hikes- dumb, I knew this, but needed a reminder- I think that was the problem with my shoe on mile 2
- Eat better! I know how I should eat pre-race and I didn't do it- it backfired at mile 5.
- Need to put hills & speedwork back in my training, have been neglecting those lately, probably would have helped me
- I should have stayed and cheered for my friends getting awards, but I was there without my family and pouting over my time, so I left
Overall, glad I did it, but still peeved about not breaking at least 1:53! That's 2 races in a row that I haven't met my goal (last month, Run for Kids was a bummer too). Don't know if my goals are too ambitious or if I'm just not training as I should. Maybe I should run Hobblecreek or some mostly downhill 1/2 to feel better...I must be due for a PR soon?

Took a leisurely bike ride w/ family (4 mi) and FELL about 1/2 mile into it. Gave myself a good hipper and some other scratches. Wasn't sore from the 1/2 yesterday, but now I'm sure I'll be sore from the bike fall!
2 mi. walking after stuffing myself at family BBQ
(I'm logging 2 miles because the bike ride and walk were moderate and I felt like I exerted energy equal to running about 2 miles)

Not sore from 1/2 but VERY sore from the fall on my bike yesterday. Will probably just walk this afternoon, break into jog if I feel good enough. I kinda whiplashed off the side of my bike and now my whole left side is sore, even my knee- so that worries me a bit.
Anyway- plan for week: T- weights, W- run, Thurs- weights & run, Fri- run or bike, Sat- run
3 mile hike this afternoon w/ hubby. VERY NICE to get away & reconnect. It was a bit hot, but great hike. St. George is getting in the 80's, need to bring water & sunscreen if outside very long. |

Not sure how to log the miles today. Crosstraining day- 2 mile steep hike w/ hubby. 9 miles on bike at moderate pace in afternoon. Overall I feel like the effort exerted was equal to a 7-8 mi. run, so I just logged 7 miles for today. I've taken a couple days off running after the 1/2 and bike fall. Now I'm feeling good again and Heather & Buff are coming here in the morning for a challenging 4 mi. hill run.
Also did some abs & arms toning today at home. |

This ended up a fairly low mileage week but I'm OK with that considering it was a recovery week after the half last weekend. 6 miles w/ Heather out on a trail (mix of sand & rocks) I can tell I'm going to tired from this run today. But it was FUN, couldn't be on autopilot (like I am so many mornings) had to watch the rocks.
Something amazing happened tonight. JIM RAN! Yes, that's right. My non-runner hubby actually ran 2 miles! I wanted to take a walk with him after dinner, he wanted to go train Jiu-Jitsu- so HE offered to RUN the 2 miles to make it quicker. Although I should have felt slighted that he was trying to rush through our quality time- I couldn't help but quickly take him up on the offer. It was the first time we have EVER ran together. Honestly the first time I think I've seen him really run (and I've know him for 20 yrs) so that's a BIG deal. He did quite well, averaged 11:12 with a couple walking breaks. He ran most of the route. I think he kinda liked it, but we'll see what his calves say in the morning...(snicker...) |

She did great, had to stop for a side cramp a couple times, but I can tell that after a couple weeks she could easily increase her distance. She is very fit & I hope I can be as motivated as she is in a few years (she's 7 yrs older than me with busy teenagers) We dropped Alison off at home and did another 1.25 mi. Does anybody know anything about Charlie Horses? These plague me while sleeping from time to time. I've had a couple in the last week and I got one the night before one of my 1/2 marathons this year. Anyway, I've started taking my multivitamin again and I'm going to try to drink more water- I've read that may help. My calf was really sore this morning from the CH, so I put off my morning run. BUT I am PRE-BLOGGING right now- at least 4 miles this afternoon while "A" is at her afternoon sports. There's a trail close by I will hop on and get in at least 4! Hold me to it!
PM Update:
So my son ended up with an evening try-out that I had forgotten I had to take him to. So there went my scheduled run time. I did make it out for a SHORT 2 miler later at night. Not been the best week for mileage! I do think I'll get in some good miles Friday & Saturday, I've scheduled to meet up w/ running partners each day, that should help!

And the weather couldn't have been more perfect, partly cloudy and cool. We both thought the race was run VERY well. The volunteers really gave everyone personal attention and all the aid stations were well stocked. Heather got lots of cool loot in her runner bag too. I talked to the race director a bit and he said next year they are going to add a 1/2 marathon or shorter race along with the 50k. Heather did GREAT! She had a strong finish, I was so proud of her! |

I was very inspired by the race reports this past Saturday! Good job everyone!! Another reason I love this blog- the race reports helped to motivate me & get a little more serious about my goals. I really want to break my 5k PR this year for starters. I think it would help me to run alone at least 1x a week. I usually run with friends & we chat the whole time, therefore not really pushing myself in my training runs. Today I went alone and averaged 8:49 on a tough 5 miler (more than 50% was slight uphill). I think I can definately get to 8:35/8:40 average pace on my training runs if I run alone more often. I don't want to be above 9:15 unless its a long run.
I'm thinking about running a 5k in Florida June 7th while I'm down there. This probably wouldn't be the PR 5k because I haven't really been doing any tempo, speed work lately. But ESPECIALLY because I don't know how I'll do in the heat. It will be low to mid 90s and very high humidity most likely. But I love to do races in other places when ever I have the opportunity and this one is at a cool nature park so I think it will keep hubby & kids entertained while I do a quick (hopefully, hee hee) 5k. I'll have a week to run down there before the race so I can decide if my body can handle the heat in a race or not. |

Long day. Finally sitting down to blog the run! I must've been really tired today because I slept through my alarm and missed meeting up w/ the gals for the early run. So I had to get out later in the day alone. I think it was good for me. I did the same route as Monday and really pushed myself. Despite the heat and wind I kept 8:29 av. pace, so I'm very happy with this. Man, I was working though, it was TOUGH!

So no, I won't have fallen off the face of the earth, but probably won't have any computer access until June 12th. I'll be chilling on Clearwater Beach, FL- thinking of all you running fools. Couldn't ask for better weather this morning! Low 50's, no wind. Just perfect! Met up with Allison for a great run. She did almost 5 mi. with me and only had to stop once. We kept just under 10 min. miles. This is really good progress, she is used to only running 3 miles and stopping a few times throughout. 10 min. miles felt like an easy treat today after running under 9 on my recent training runs. After I dropped Allison off I ran 8:44 for my last mile. I see light at the end of the slow tunnel. I think if I stay consistent with a at least 2 runs on my own (not chatting with friends) a week close and keep it close to 8:30 pace I will get faster right? I think I'd just gotten lazy in my training and thought I could just go out & run without much of a plan. After vacation I'll treat myself to some new Mizunos, these will have over 500 miles on them. I'm so glad Steve got me in these shoes, they've been great! |

This race was in Tampa Florida at the Al Lopez park which is a nice big "nature" park with lakes & lots of trees. I thought I could get away with dragging the family to this event even though we were on vacation because they could keep themselves occupied looking for alligators & turtles in the lake while I ran. Worked out pretty well in the end. At first they wanted to kill me because we were getting up at 5am while on vacation to drive 1/2 hr. to a race. As we left for the race my 10 yr old son grabbed his running shoes (which he had in FL because he's on a relay team and wanted to practice while in FL) I thought it was odd that he was bringing his racing shoes to my race- but whatever. Then in the car on the way there he asked if he could run the beginning or end of the race with me. I told him "of course, that would be cool!" (Mind you- I'm always trying to talk him into training for a 5k with me, but he always wants to stick with strictly track work and shorter distances) As we got out of the car at the race, the tempation was too great for him & he wanted to race the whole 5k!! SO- I signed him up and he ran a 28:19 (UPDATE, its time was actually 26:03 according to the official results. Boy was I off in my initial posting of Toby's time. Sorry Toby! Way to rock his 1st 5k!!!!!!!!!) for his first ever 5k! Not too shabby! He finished strong and looked great at the finish. I was worried about his recovery since he doesn't usually run more than a couple miles at his track practices- but he did great! He was sore for a couple days- but not sore enough to stop him from skimboarding, swimming or any activity. He took advantage of the free massage at the finish which was a good idea, that probably helped him recover. He should start his own blog- but until then I'll have his race report(s) here. So the race went like this:
We did a 10:22 warm up for 1 mile. Then we ran our own pace for the race. Don't have Toby's splits.
My splits were: 7:15, 7:54, 8:19. There were aid stations every mile and I took advantage of every one to get water. The heat & humidity combo really affects me which makes me feel so whimpy. My legs & lungs wanted to keep going fast, but I felt oppressed by the heat so I kept slowing down considerably each mile. I did beat my previous 5k time by a few seconds, but I really wanted out of the 24:00s. ! On a positive note, I do feel that if I was at home I probably could have pulled off a better time if I wasn't wilting from heat. I'm anxious to run another 5k this summer and see what I can do. Overall, I should be happy that I PR'd in FL, even if not by as much as I wanted. And the day was a great success because Toby ran his first 5k and did OUTSTANDING! We both wanted AD awards, but wasn't in the card for us. (I thought competition would be easier as I got older- HA! If I was in the younger divisions I would have placed, but my division had all the speedies!) Toby was running in the 10-14 group and had some tough high schoolers as competition. |

I'm baaaaack! Wow, 2 weeks without "the blog" and I did survive! (barely...) Actually the sun, surf & good food in Florida kept my mind far away from computers. I didn't touch a computer for 12 days- a record for me in the past few years!
I'm happy to report that I DID run in Florida. Even ran a 5k with my son. Let me tell you, Florida is flipping HOT! But more than HOT its H*U*M*I*D*! (Of course I know this, I grew up there for heaven's sake) I had a week to run there before my 5k and the heat was really getting to me. Had to stop every mile and drink & cool down. Wasn't sure how the 5k would go. It was pretty good, I did PR- not by as much as I wanted. But you can read all about that in the Spring Into Summer 5k4 Race Report if you're into torturing yourself at the hands of a babbling bloggie.
Anyway, I'm going to go back now and track my few runs that I did in Florida. Then I will attempt to catch up with all of your blogs which will probably take me a few days. But I can't wait to see what you've all been up to!
As a side note- the DAY after I got home from Florida I started a new job with the state as a Social Worker. So if my entries are few & far between for awhile, you'll know its just 'cause I'm playing it safe and not using my work email for personal use and probably will be in a time crunch at home in the evenings. Somehow I will balance it, but it will take a few weeks to work out the kinks. I have registered for the Bryce 1/2 July 19th , so I plan on getting my booty in gear for that- starting with a long run tomorrow w/ the Sole Sistas!
(since I have the hardest time posting pics on this blog, I'm going to put my personal blog address for anyone who wants to check out Florida vacation pics www.CarpeDiem95.blogspot.com ) |

I really like that Sasha added "goal type" to our blog. It made me make a choice between Age Division Winner & Boston Qualifier. I realized AD Placement is a bit more important to me. I still want to qualify for Boston of course, but I think now that I have my goal in mind it will make my training more enjoyable and focused. Thanks Sasha!
Only 3 miles this week- whoa! I'm not being hard on myself though- I came back from vacation and started a job the day after this week. I needed all the sleep I could get. I'm excited to dive into next week's training (5 weeks 'til the Bryce 1/2) and get myself some new Mizunos (mine have over 500 mi. and just called it quits this last week) |

Took the sore foot on a test run today. Happy to report its better. Still a bit sore/stiff when I run but hardly sore at all to walk on now. I wore different shoes today and that helped. I think the problem was old worn out shoes, esp. since I roll my left foot a lot- the outer edge took the damage. Anywho- I'm going to try to SLOWLY up the mileage this week. I hope I can still do Bryce 1/2!

Nice run around Daybreak while staying at my parents. Foot still sore but its sore either way so glad I ran. Mileage was a bit slower, most miles over 9 min. miles except for 1 mi. under 9 min. Guess that's to be expected with the foot injury and lack of training recently. I haven't gone to doc. yet, still watching it.
After run rode bikes w/ my 10 yr old son. It was a blast.
Surviving the new job but needing to get more runs in! HAPPY 4th of JULY!

Swimming at sand hollow today. Not sure of the mileage but I'd say at least 20 minutes of moderate effort (more than just paddling around). Did a few "laps".
Had a great 4th! Just RELAXED after a busy week of training in SLC for work earlier in the week. It was nice to not do much of anything except hang out with Jim & the kids. After the lake we watched the fireworks of course! I was thinking of all the FRB racers today and hoping everyone had a fun holiday race day. Looking forward to reading the reports. |

Bike ride with Toby in the wind and heat. Actually the wind wasn't so bad, it added some welcome resistance and made it so the heat was bearable. I was able to get Toby to come along by bribing him with a gas station stop and $1 he could spend (this is like heaven for him)
The foot feels pretty good. I have cross trained only (no running) this week which feels really wimpy. But I think the rest was much needed for my psyche and foot (probably mostly my psyche- starting a new job is more stressful than I had imagined. Its not the stress of the JOB itself, just the new schedule adjustment) I'm ready to give the foot a good try on Monday. I plan to meet up with Heather for a 5-6 miler. |

I feel so good that I ran today! I feel a bit more inspired now. I have Bryce 1/2 in less than 2 weeks. I'm NOWHERE near ready, but I decided I'll treat it as a scenic training run. The under 1:50 is most likely NOT going to happen, and that's OK. I've been going through a period of adjustment with the new job and I feel that things are getting better week by week. This week I've worked out 2x and looks like I'll get in another 2x before the week's over. That's a foundation I can build from... just need to work in more & more workouts every week and extend the miles.

Pump class at gym this morning.
Tonight at 10pm my family is doing the Chelsi 5k Run/Walk which is a memorial run for Chelsi Petersen who passed away last month. Today would have been her 21st BD. She comes from a wonderful family. I've gotten to know Lisa (Chelsi's mom) the past few years as our 2 boys played sports together and Lisa & I have been Room Moms together at school. Chelsi was in her Freshman year at BYU and was an amazing athlete and track star. My heart aches for the Petersen family. I think having a run on her BD is a great way to honor her and show her family lots of love and support on a tough day. You can check out info about the race at www.runforchelsi.com
Evening Update:
Went to Run for Chelsi 5k to show our support for the Petersen family. Jim had to work so it was the kids & I. Lots of friends from the ward & neighborhood there as well. It was a great turnout, hundreds of participants. We did a couple laps around the neighborhood that Chelsi grew up in and people were outside their homes handing out drinks, cheering, playing music, etc. What a wonderful support for the family! They had a fun raffle at the end too. The community stepped forward and donated so many items, including 21 gift cert's for Pizza Factory each worth $21 since it is Chelsi's 21st BD today. I hope my kids remember this event when they get older and the special occasion that it was. I hesitate to even mark this as a "race" because I ran/walked with a good friend and we weren't being competitive AT ALL. The point was to just be there. It wasn't even timed, nor were bibs given out. I just wanted to socialize and take it all in- slowly. Saw Clyde & Logan cruising into the finish- FIRST of course! Yay! Go FRB! |

Got 'er done. Better late than never (evening run). On the treadmill at the new Washington Community Center. Really liking that place. My free week trial membership is coming to an end, I think they may have hooked me. I can run while kids swim & rock climb and hubby trains jiu-jitsu. Doesn't get any better than that!
Full disclosure. I have decided NOT to race Bryce 1/2. Sad about it, but the reality is my training has NOT been up to par the last couple weeks and I don't want to spend the $ going to Bryce for the weekend and risking injury. SO- that's that. I have scheduled a 10-12 miler with the Sole Sisters that I can take slow and not hurt myself doing as I build back up to where I should be pre-marathon.
I'm tired, hitting the sack. Tomorrow's FRIDAY!!!! Yippee! |

Really good training run today. Went out and did 11.25 w/ Soul Sisters. We were keeping in the 8:30-9:15 pace range. I got in 1 mi. that was 8:25 so I'm counting it as my marathon pace mile on the log. I felt really good during the run (best I've felt in awhile) and when the group quit at 9.5, I even added on 1.75 more. We ran by the river and it was so nice and cool. That makes a huge difference for me! As hard as it will be for me to read those Bryce 1/2 race reports I think I made the right choice not racing today 'cause I wasn't ready. I think the training run I did was more beneficial to me today. Saw Wild Bull on the trail getting in his 14 (he races Deseret News Marathon next week) He was looking good!
Great converstation as always with the girls. Kids, polygamy, jobs, celebrity sightings, etc all game for conversation. We're always looking for $ on the road and today we scored almost $2. These girls have collected $130 in the last 2 yrs. just picking up change on their runs. Its a hoot. We joke that we look kinda like a 5k coming down the road (8 of us today)
I need to find a race to do before SGM so I can stay pumped. I prefer local since it got complicated (and expensive) when I was considering taking my family to Bryce for the weekend.
I feel good about this week, like I'm finally getting close to where I was when I started slacking off in June. Its been a busy summer, taking on a new job & everything else that summer brings with the kids out of school, etc. I'm happy to be getting back on track w/ my running! |

Let the day get away without a workout, but made plans with Heather for the morning so I feel better now. We're going to run Foremaster repeats (with a small loop on top of Foremaster to try to get in some miles too along with the hill work)
Wow- now I know why I felt like my training was so bad in June. I knew I had missed lots of days, but today I went back and looked at monthly mileage. In May I had over 110 miles, in June I only had 55! Now I have about 55 with a week left in July so I won't hit 100, but I'm moving back up, so that's progress! I figure by end of Aug. I'll be back where I need to be. |

You would think that being in the RS Pres. for my ward, I would know that my Stake was holding a 5k?! I had no idea until the flyer was put on my door at 9pm last night (the night before the race). I decided I would do it! I tried to get a friend & my son to come race with me, but neither wanted to do it with no notice. So I went alone. Glad I did. There was only 3 of us from my ward there! Probably 30 participants? The course was pretty flat except for the UGLY 1/2 mile hill from 2.0-2.5 mi. on the course. I went out fast and just couldn't maintain. Definately not a PR, but a great workout nonetheless and really helped me see where my fitness it at (boohoo). Splits went like this:
1- 7:44- I went out fast and realized 1/2 mi. into it that is was probably too fast. I think I was low 6:00's on the 1st 1/2 mi. I used to be able to go out fast and it would push me through a 5k, not with the shape I'm in now..
2-8:33- the start of mile 2 was the ugly hill as we ran up Price Hills Dr. For any of you from St. George that are familiar with Desert Hills neighborhood- we ran all the way up Price Hills until it meets up with Desert Hills Dr. (yeah, I'm looking for sympathy here)
3-8:34- the last .5 was nice and flat, I was able to get back to low 7:00s for awhile, but too spent to maintain the 7:00s
I went out with the fast gals, met Steve H.'s niece who's on x-country with Logan as her coach (sorry I'm forgetting her name, Cali?). We actually chatted for the first .25 mile which I think killed me off faster than if I hadn't been talking! I stayed as the 3rd place woman for the whole race , but was passed by 2 men- darn it!
The race measured .1 long (3.20) so I used my garmin time at 3.1 for my race time.
It will take awhile for me to get back to the 24:00 5ks, but I'm determined!
(BTW, I really wasn't sure where to log these race miles under VO2 max or Threshold?)

I guess I should pat myself on the back just for getting up at 5am on a Sat. and running. According to the marathon training plan I'm using I should have done at least 12 today. Oh well. I figure I better listen to my body a bit. I thought if I pushed it too hard today then the rest of my running would suffer this next week. I got in 5 workouts this week consisting of 4 runs and 1 pilates class. That's not too shabby. Goals for next week: Gold- over 30 miles. Silver- 25 miles. No bronze 'cause I want at least 25 miles! |

Wow! Where did the week go! It went by so fast I didn't even have time to blog my runs until now. Long story short, I had a pretty good week. I'm 3 mi. short of my silver goal for the week. I am going to walk tomorrow and cheat a bit by getting my last few miles via cross-training (walking). Time to get serious about the marathon. Its a long shot to meet my goal of 3:45 SGM because of my lame June & 1/2 July training. But I'm going to take Aug & Sept. serious and just do my best!
Today I ran 11 mi. w/ Sole Sisters. My body was struggling, after 6 mi. it got really hard. Heat was part of it I'm sure (high 80's outside). But thanks to good friends & conversation I made it through. Our av. pace was 10:15 but that was with 2 gas station stops where I didn't stop the Garmin, so I figured we were running about 9:20.
(gonna go back & log my M-F runs for this week now)
Decided to put the link to my family blog on the left side of my blog profile if anyone's interested. |

| Heck ya, I'm counting the .02 of my 4.62 miles today! Met up with Buff & Heather, nice run. Felt a bit more energy today than I have on the last few runs. The joke was that we were all feeling good cause its cooled down to 84 instead of 88 like it was on our last morning run. Embarrassed to say I didn't get my preblogging down yesterday. Went to 2 Back to School nights then decided to hit the stores for the back to school supplies. I didn't want to have to face the stores this Sat. so I just decided to get it done! My run was the sacrafice. At least I got in a decent one today. Long run planned for tomorrow with Sole Sistas. Gotta run to Colorado City for work now. Looking forward to catching up & commenting on everyone's blogs this weekend! |

| Pretty good long run w/ Sole Sisters today. I actually had good energy and probably could've gone at least 2 more miles. BUT we were having a garage sale so I needed to get back. Not as excited for the marathon as I was last year. This is probably 'cause my 2 closest running buddies aren't running it this year. But Sat. I ran with some other girls who are running and it got me a tad more excited. Just gotta keep upping the mileage! |

I must be off my rocker! I woke up at 4:30 am to workout today! First weight class then hill repeats. I felt really good throughout. Must hit the sack now, its 10pm and I'm in a zombie-like trance. Good night! (I think a wee bit of SGM excitement is starting to creep into my system)
BTW- watched Spiderwick Chronicles with my kids tonight. Good flick! We all liked it. (scary for 8 & under though, IMHO) |

Good miles w/ Buff & Heather. Forgot to charge my garmin so not sure on pace. Asked gals while we were running and it was 9:11, I'd say that was pretty average for the run. My chins & knee are sore. Past time for new shoes, gotta find time to make it to the running store soon.

My son had an early soccer game in Vegas (his team won- yah!) and I couldn't figure out how to get my long run in without having to get up at 3am. I just wasn't feeling that crazy today. So I plan on getting out tonight and getting some miles in! Yell at me if I don't! Every Sat. counts from now until SGM! (I'm in such worse shape this year compared to this time last year, oh well..)
I got in 7 miles which isn't exactly the 14 or so that I needed for my training plan. But every mile counts and somehow I have to balance running, family, work, church responsibilities, etc... So I'll take my 7 and just try for more miles next week!
It was a solo evening run w/ the ipod. Got to see the sun set and run by a cool overlook of St. George. I stopped about every mile to drench myself with water, but kept a 9:50 pace so I'm happy with that. My body seems to be doing much better in the heat also, considering it was 100 degrees out and I survived! |

Its Sunday and I'm feeling reflective. Time to set some weekly goals and look at my marathon training objectively. Last year I ran a 4hr marathon, my goal was to break 4 hrs (just wanted a 3:59) but didn't make it by 1 minute. That was OK 'cause it was my first and I enjoyed the race. Then I got the idea in my head that I wanted to BQ. Now its time to come to terms that I haven't put in the effort for a BQ, so I need to reassess and make some new goals for SGM. I'm not a consistent person and I'm full of excuses, BUT I think my 2 main obstacles have been #1 starting a new job and #2 my running buddy is pregnant and backing off her runs just as I should be ramping up. Obstacle #1 is getting better. I've been in a new schedule for 2 months so although it affected my training in June & part of July, I feel I'm much more under control now and the last month has been pretty good. Don't have my goals for SGM set in stone yet, but they're looking something like this: GOLD- 3:45 (BQ) hey while it may not be realistic, gotta keep the possibility alive / SILVER- 3:55 / BRONZE- 3:59, really want to at least break 4 hrs.
Weekly Goals:
1. Hook up with some other running buddies, don't be so dependent on Heather
2. Get in a long run of at least 16 miles come hell or highwater
3. Sign up for The Trails 20 miler Sept. 6th to commit myself to that long run

WHOO-HOO! I'm back in the game. Just had a great 19 miler with negative splits. Last mile Teresa & I were flying (ok, for me its flying) at 7:11 pace. It was so fun! Av. pace 8:53 and that's without stopping the garmin at all (we had 4 water stops) Tammy, Teresa, Conadae (sorry if I slaughtered the spelling!) & I ran the SGM course. It was so fun! I'm pretty sure I saw Clyde (Superfly on the blog) breeze past us at one point. Also saw Steve H. out there, looking good! There were lots of people & lots of marathon excitement. I'm finally mentally getting pumped up! Only bummer is I have 2 purple toes already. Its probably from all the downhill & shoes being a bit too big. Gotta get smaller ones.
Going to the lake to play now. Have a great weekend bloggies! |

Learning run today. Pushed my body to its limit and it screamed at me. Last week had hardly any miles, too little sleep and poor diet. Went out there Sat. and thought I could pull off a 16 miler. Body had other plans. Hit the wall at 13 and had to walk/jog the rest of the way. Legs were bricks, NO energy. Despite the fun life stories that Steph & Shelly were sharing to try to pull me along, I just couldn't go. Had to send them to finish without me. Probably good wake-up call to start listening to my body better. Goals for this week
Sept. 1st-Sept. 6th:
1. More weekly mileage, meet gals 2x a week so I'll have partners (I've still been suffering from partner adjustment since Heather got pregnant and cut back)
2. Get into SGRC to sign up for Saturday's 20 miler
3. NO Diet Coke all week, more whole grains & veggies
4. Start using sleep tracker on blog, bed by 9:30 (ambitious, yes) |

| 5.5 "easy" miles. Well, easy for the gals I was running with, not so easy for me! It was a good challenge though and I felt great for getting up early & getting the miles in with the speedy gals. I was good & got in bed at 9:30 last night. Tonight I'm up a little later, but still hitting the sack before 10pm. Not bad. Yesterday I turned in my registration for Saturday's 20 miler. No diet coke since Friday. Did pretty good on the diet until 8pm when all the junk food in the house starting calling to me, caved a bit : froz yogurt (not so bad) and chocolate donut (really bad). Tomorrow am abs & arms and possibly 3 miles. |

Took my new Mizunos out for a spin to make sure they won't give me blisters or any surprises on race day tomorrow. No problems, but I'm still nervous that something might crop up over 20 miles. I've ran in this style of shoe before, but wore some Asics in the interim. SO- we'll just have to see...
20 mile Trail Run tomorrow. I'm not "racing" this. I signed up so I would commit myself to at least 1 decent 20 miler during marathon training. Up 'til now the longest I've gone this season is 18. I felt really good on that 18 miler, but then crashed at mile 14 the week after on my long run. So tomorrow is a mystery. I'm trying to go into it mentally strong and want to use this as a gauging run to see where I'm at, and at what pace my body feels comfortably challenged. A 2:50 would be nice tomorrow, then a BQ will seem more attainable this year at SGM, but I'm expecting more of a 2:55-3:00 tomorrow.
I plan on eating really clean today and getting in bed early tonight!

I wasn't sure what category to log my miles in (threshold, etc) But basically about 5 of the miles were marathon pace and the rest were challenging, but not as fast.
SO- Basically, after running this I feel more prepared for SGM and excited for SGM! I did not make my ambitious goal of keeping 8:35 pace, but the race was much more hilly than I expected so I'm not too disappointed with 9 minute miles. Last year I ran SGM with 9:11 av. pace and I'm confident that I will keep under 9 minutes miles at SGM this year thanks to all the downhill. How close I can keep to 8:30s to get a BQ time still remains to be seen.
It was a rushed morning. Started with my Garmin not working- urggghhh! I charged it yesterday so it would be all ready for this morning. When I went to take it off the charger it was blank and would not turn on. (Of course after I got home from the race it was working?!) So I printed out a pace band and grabbed a digital watch- not the ideal pacing systerm. I picked up my friend Lenae and I made it on the bus with 5 min. to spare. Started with the Sole Sister gang. We all got spread out with Theresa P. & Tina finishing first for our group, Theresa T. & I finishing next, then Conaday, then Stephanie & Shelly. I felt really good on the downhills and uphills were a struggle. Downhills and flats I was between 7:10-8:30, but the uphills squashed my overall pace. Don't have my splits unfortunately due to the Garmin issue.
The course was beautiful!! Wish I had a little camera in my pocket. We passed a nice little pond and some horses up on a cliff- both would have made spectacular postcards.
The race was pretty well organized. My only complaint was that there were only 2 porta potties at the start!! But the aid stations were every 3 miles and were well stocked and I saw at least 3 porta potties along the way.
I feel really good, no injuries as far as I can tell. Not even too sore- EXCEPT for my toes- darn it!! I have about 5 sore toes, I'll probably lose at least 2 toenails. Thank goodness for nail polish.
My only other whaaa- beside the garmin & toes is that I'm SICK OF 4TH PLACE!!! At least 3 of my friends who came in AFTER me placed! I wasn't out there to place today, but I was kinda bummed when my friends placed in age groups under & above mine and I didn't. Those 35-40 yr. olds in my division are unstoppable obviously! Ah well. I really didn't train to deserve a AD award anyway. A big CONGRATS to our very own bloggies, Marcie & Dustin for their 1st Place Accomplishments- whooo-hoooo!!!
SO- if you're still reading this ramble- mission accomplished. Didn't hit the wall, feel more prepared for SGM and am encouraged that I can at least PR at SGM this year even if I don't pull off a BQ.
Happy Running & Racing bloggies!

Holy Cow! I'm back from Lake Powell, it was a GREAT vacation!!! www.CarpeDiem95.blogspot.com if you want to see slideshow from the trip.
I can't believe SGM is 12 days away! I feel really out of touch with it this year. I think that's mostly because I've relied so much on my friend Heather to train & run the races with me. Now that she's pregnant, I'm on my own except for occasional runs with the Sole Sisters. This morning I just couldn't pull myself out of bed. Its like I'm mentally OVER the marathon already. BUT- since I'm blogging I hope someone reads this who will hold me accountable: I'm going to meet the Sole Sistas early tomorrow morning to see if my body can still run. HOLD ME TO IT! After a couple of runs this week I'll re-access my final SGM goals. At this point I'm ready for it to be over and to enjoy some shorter races this fall & winter.
Good luck all you other bloggies who are on the final marathon push!

Nice solo run this morning, watching the sun come up. Started to feel the old runner in me coming back. Still took 2-3 miles to warm up. Over all pace about 9:30, not great- but that's as good as its going to get at this point so close to the marathon. Did have a little arch pain afterwards, looks like I'll be doping with ibuprofen pre-race. Here's the marathon goals:
Ambitious Gold- 3:45:XX (BQ)
Attainable Silver- 3:52:XX
Acceptable Bronze- anything under 4:00, last years SGM's time
Getting excited, esp. to see FRB friends, go to expo and get 'er done! Hope the weather is as delightful as it was last year. Its a treat to have such a great marathon in my own backyard, I'll try to enjoy every second of it! |

Food poisoning from last night really put a damper on my workout plans for today. I had wanted to get up early and do a nice little outside 4 miler on a route that Michelle had shown me. Needless to say, after being up puking all night I did not get up early and workout. I tossed and turned all night. Feel better today, went to training. Ate bananas, oranges, drank gatorade- tried to replace what my body lost being sick last night. Bummed I didn't get my last little pre-marathon race in. Silver lining....silver lining...(thinking of you Kim) at least I lost a couple pounds? (ha) |

Bottom line - didn't make goal time- but still on cloud 9. Can you say thank you endorphins?! Day started off well. Met up with Sole Sisters and took the bus up together. We started with a prayer- really loved that, started the day off just right. I can thank that prayer for the peace I felt all race despite many obstacles.
It RAINED, RAINED and RAINED some more. White singlet probably NOT best choice for today. ha ha.
The first 6 were great, good pace (8:30ish) went by fast. I was mentally prepared to be challenged on miles 7-11 and I was! ONLY it didn't end at mile 11, it lasted until 14! Then I could pick it up on & off for the rest of the race. I would have a good couple miles then struggle again. Did stop for 2 calf massages which was really nice.
Pretty much ran my own race. Would see my Sole Sisters come & go, stayed with Shelly for most of the last half.
Fun to see Kim about mile 17- since I missed her at the blogger party last night I was happy to see her along the way. She was very strong despite some serious knee issues. Think she still smoked me in the end.
Saw another chica with a FRB singlet and a cute pink running skirt. Yelled "go FRB" and she gave me a nice wave, but I couldn't catch her. Who were you wonderwoman?
This was a tough race!! The rain didn't help. About the last 3 miles I knew it was sketchy at best that I could break 4:00. I would have had to pick it up to 8:00 and I just didn't have it. However I kept up the positive self talk and at this point I would normally be crushed, but I wasn't. I just smiled and enjoyed the cheering fans along the end of the route.
Felt a great since of accomplishment. Probably earned about what I deserved due to my "erratic" training as Brent would put it (good adjective).
Got 'er done. Had a good time with good friends. Enjoyed every minute of it despite the rain.
1 ugly toe, a couple more are questionable. At this point of course I'm saying I've had my fill of Marathons. Maybe just halfs from now on- but give it a few months.
So fun to see you all briefly at the blogger party. Sorry I didn't stay too long. Can't wait to read ya'll's reports!

Walked for almost an hour with Heather, can you believe we only got in 2.5 miles? (Yes I wore my Garmin)
Some new running goals:
1. Get back to 25 mi. (or more) a week consistently
2. Get back to cross-training (at least 1 strength class a week and 1 other activity of my choice besides running)
3. Smash my 10k PR
Nov. 7th will re-assess, if all goals met, then taking my hubby to Samuri 21

| Wow- where did the week go? I had a nice run today around 11am. Probably a bit too hillly for so soon after the marathon, my right calf was a little sore. I played "don't look at the Garmin" and just listened to my body and tried to keep a consistent easy pace. Pleasantly surprised myself that my av. pace was 8:45. Next week its time to get back in the groove. Took my post marathon week off (well besides 2 easy runs). I think I'll sign up for Snow Canyon Half to stay motivated. |

Ok- trying to find the family/ work/ running/ life balance lately. Doing pretty well in all but the running dept. I will go back and fill in some of my runs. Haven't had time to run or blog. My sister is in town now with her 4 kids. We're having a really nice visit, but its busy. I did get out for a nice run this morning. Heather actually stood me up, but I'm still grateful to her. Her invite is what got me out of bed. I ended up doing East Ridge Hills w/ loop 2x, then added on another 1/2 mi. The 1/2 mile was along the outlet store window (window shopping) It was FUN. A couple nights ago my family & my sister Julie's fam went to Staheli Farm to pick out our pumpkins and stumble around lost in the corn maze. They had lost of fun stuff for the kids to do too- petting farm, slides, games, etc. When I get a sec. I'll post a picture!
Oh man! I just saw that Lybi has 110 comments on her last entry (under "hot discussions") wish I had more time to check and comment on everyone's blogs! Thinking of you all- looking forward to catching up with you all soon- hopefully this weekend. Keep running and enjoying this beautiful autumn!!

YES! Happy to report I DID get my 5 miles in. I took my sister with me ("Bryce" on the blog) She used to run but hasn't since the spring. She made it all 5 miles (we took it real easy) I'm so proud of both of us! |

Goal time! I set some goals last week and didn't make them. Sometimes I feel like throwing in the towel. But no.... I need to press on. Only 1 goal this week:
1. Get up at 5:15 and workout at least 5 4 times this week!! (5 is ideal, but my sister & her family are still in town and I need to be realistic about my stress level with work, company & everything else this week- if I exceed 4x then hooray, I'll be super stoked)
That's it. Short & sweet. I think if I can make myself have a consistent workout time everything else will fall in place. I will reassess at the end of the week.

Not sure how to count this in mileage? Probably shouldn't even count the mileage... any suggestions?
Went to spin! 50 minutes, I figure if I was riding outside I would have covered at least 10 miles. Was having a blast within the first 10 minutes. I keep telling myself "remember how fun this is, remember you LIKE getting up early in the morning & working out!". I hope I remember (I sure am stubborn, I do live this pattern over & over...)
So, 1 workout down- 3 (or more) to go this week. Made plans with Sole Sisters to run with them tomorrow.

Wow - I got in a REAL run today! This is the longest distance I've done since the marathon and at a respectable (9:30) pace too. I decided I'm way too worried about pace lately. I've slowed down a bit and that's OK. My right leg was a little sore, but otherwise I felt pretty good. It was a challenge to keep up w/ the Sole Sisters again. I'm still deciding if I'm going to do Snow Canyon 1/2 or Butch Cassidy 10K....

I was supposed to get up and go to spin this morning, but it was too easy to sleep in since I knew I'd be hiking today. My "team" from work had a meeting in Zion's, then I did 3 short hikes for about 4 miles cross training total. It was so beautiful up there, great time of year to go. I'm resolved to go again soon & bring the family!

Week in review.... I didn't have much time for blogging during the week. I tried to go back in Sat. and put in my workouts. I can't even remember them all... I THINK I got 'em. On the plus side I did get in 4 workouts. On the minus side, 2 of the 4 were wimpy. I'm glad I got in at least 3 runs. That's good for me these days. I regret not going to spin or weights.
The goals....
1. Keep the 3+ runs a week
2. Add a weight day
The plan...
M- run foremaster w/ sole sisters
T- spin
W- weights
Th- run
Sat- run |

Pre-blogging here. My schedule has been impacted a bit by Boy Scouts going out in the morning to hand out flags (election day). So, I won't make it to gym for weight class but I am promising myself 4 miles in between getting my son to Boy Scouts and having to be back home to get my daughter up!
Update: Thanks for checking on me Lybi! I did get in 3 of the 4 preblogged miles. Nice solo, early morning run. No IPOD or Garmin. 9:11 pace. |

Yay! So I got lucky today that the benefits of the marathon training are still with me a bit. I didn't run Wed- Fri. (no good excuses, just really busy w/ work & tired). But Wed. I registered for the Snow Canyon 5k. I knew I'd see some friends there, but I went alone which made it a bit of a challenge. It would have been really easy to stay home and blow it off.
I decided I'd warm up a bit more this time, did 1 easy mile (9:20) right before the race. To PR I would have to run a 7:43 av. pace, so I set my virtual partner to that knowing it would be a stretch. I didn't know much about the course except for that it was a trail out & back with what looked like a "slight" incline up for the 1st half of the race. So I took off near the front but wanted to hold back a bit so I didn't burn out in the first mile which I usually do. I looked down and was 6:XX so I backed off a bit. I felt good that the front of the pack wasn't getting away from me like usual. I was staying near the front of the pack! I spotted my friend Emily who I know is a 22:XX finisher and she wasn't too far from me. I decided to keep my eye on her and just try to stay the say distance from her. We got into the incline soon after start- ughhh! But I got excited knowing if I could just keep a good pace on this uphill that I could fly on the downhill. An aid station was semi set up at the turn around point but not manned. I decided to definitely skip a drink. I loved the 2nd half of this course, very fast & fun. Passing the runners who were completing the first half of their course gave me a spring in my step. I even had a little kick at the end of the race (I never have that!).
My time ended up 24:36 Garmin / 24:43 race time (of course I prefer the Garmin time!). Didn't make my PR by about 30 seconds but still happy with this race. I knew I'd be happy with anything 24:XX given my training the second half of this year. I got 1st in my age division- icing on the cake! That means a lot to me! (pays to run small races, I know...) Got a little cut glass looking award. Shirts were pretty cute for this race too, long sleeve white ones with a fun font for the logo. Unfortunately I was a bit late picking up my packet and they had run out of the bags that had headbands and other goodies. My shirt is also kinda big, but it was the last M so I should be thankful I didn't end up with XL (all they had left after I got my shirt) |

Andi thanks for checking on me today and holding me accountable. You posted something like "can't wait to read the update" and I was like what?... what is she waiting for? Then duh! I figured you're waiting for me to post my workout like I said I would... hee hee...
ANYWAY- It was a busy day (as usual). I was off work for Veteran's Day but the kids still had tons of activities and "early out" school day. Plus Jimmy's out of town so no help there. OK, enough excuses. I was inspired by Jody today when she said she doesn't allow herself to make excuses because then they don't ever stop. Amen.
I got out for a quick paced walk with my rowdy dog. Didn't take a watch but I'm going to guesstimate 3 miles.
Tomorrow early morning weights!
Special thanks to our Veterans today. As I watch the current social situations in our country and globally I really appreciate more & more the freedoms we have and the strength of our country. We owe MUCH to our selfless soldiers. Thank You!

Beautiful fall walk today. Alone & fast paced (for a walk). Just felt like walking this week and not running. Want to be outside enjoying the fall weather and take it all in SLOWLY. I'm not gonna be too hard on myself about that. Still struggling with trying to fit workouts into my work schedule, also not having a partner AND shorter daylight hours. I just don't dig the gym enough to go there everyday- I need to be OUTSIDE. I know I have a new plan every week- its laughable....but I realize I have to do exercise that I really enjoy or it just won't get done. Plan for this next week- a couple short runs (2-3), spin class and we'll take it from there...I think I'll try to get some more workouts in on Fri, Sat & Sun instead of trying to get them all in M-F like I usually do.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend! The kids have been having "late nights" with friends and I've been single mommy since Jim's been working alot this weekend. Between all the kids' activities I snuck into my room to watch Run Fatboy Run. Pretty funny show. |

Preblogging 4 miles with Heather. She's coming to meet me Thurs. am. Wish I could whip out my camera and take a pic of her- but she HATES that kinda stuff. If you need inspiration/ motivation- watching those guys & gals finish will do it for ya!
Preblog followup (guess that would be postblog?) Heather did come and we got in a nice hilly (SLOW) 4 miler. Cold out there this morning!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING !
Nice run with Sole Sisters, catch up time. It was challenging but I think going to spin & walking has helped keep my fitness level up so it wasn't as hard as I expected considering I haven't run much in the past 2 weeks.
We ran all over downtown and looked at Tammy's festive windows that she painted and even visited Shelly's sister. Fun run!
Then home to watch Macy's parade and look over ads to design my shopping strategy for tomorrow. Went to Wilkinsons for lots of food & fun. Great day, so much to be grateful for! |

| Ran Foremaster hill this morning with Shelly & Teresa T. We wore our Santa hats! Too bad more girls didn't show up. We'll go again Christmas Eve morning and I'll try to get some pics. I was huffing & puffing my way up Foremaster- I hadn't run it in months! |

| Got up early to meet the gals but since it was Christmas Eve they had decided to sleep in and run later. Ah well... I went to East Ridge and did 3 hill repeats that added up to about a mile. Then I went home and did some abs & arms. |

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I hope you are all having a day that is Merry & Bright! I have so much to be thankful for. We are spending a nice quiet day at home, then heading up to my parents' house to celebrate tomorrow. I got out for a 4 mile walk in the rain today. It was beautiful. The streets were quiet except for a couple of other crazy runners & walkers - LOL |

| 1.5 on treadmill at my parents, followed up with some abs & pushups. Went sledding in FREEZING (like 18 degrees) windy weather. We only lasted about 20 minutes, then walked .5 mile back home with my sis Ashley. Today we celebrated Christmas with my side of the family. It was a wonderful day with nice presents and good food. Missed you Sloans! |

| 1.5 mile stroll around the neighborhood with my hubby. This was an evening "have to get out of the house" walk. We were both going a little stir crazy with all the SNOW and being inside so much. So we bundled up and hit the VERY snowy streets (apparently they don't believe in snowplows in Daybreak) |

| First real run in awhile- 3 miles on dreadmill at my parents. Actually it wasn't too dreadful. Maybe I should get myself one?... hmmm... Added some abs & pushups. In the afternnon we took the kids sledding (much nicer weather for sledding today, mid 30s and sunny- we lasted over an hour) and then I walked about .75 home along the snowy sidewalks. Can I just say I'm REALLY enjoying this break from work! When I worked 20-30 hrs from home on my own schedule I didn't appreciate the holidays & vacations like I do now that I work an 8-5 office job! |
