5 easy miles w/ Heather.  10 min. pace.  Felt really good today. Went out at 6am, much more cool & comfortable than my runs last week.

Lybi, Mik'L, Michelle, Sarah (and all other bloggers!)- I'm excited to meet you & hang out this weekend! Here's my plans at this point...

Friday: Expo before 1:00 while my kids are still in school.  If anyone can join me that would be great, but I know that might be early for some of you getting in town. If you gals get together and go to expo later, call me- maybe I can break away again!

Fri. night: Party! I'll plan on getting there about 5:30 or earlier of you need help Mik'L. I'm bringing Heather & her husband Dave and my hubby Jim.  (will probably leave the kiddos at home).

Sat- well, you know what I'll be doing that morning! Toby has an afternoon soccer game- after that I have no plans except to chill! So if everyone is gets together for a post race party that sounds fun to me too!

I'd invite everyone over BUT my house is a scary fixer upper construction zone, so I just don't.  Maybe next year?!

Here's my phone numbers (H) 652-5118 and (C) 817-1572.  Cell will have my husband (Jim's) name on it, 'cause my phone is broken so I've confiscated his- don't be afraid to leave message!

Not sure when we'd fit in a run, but if we can figure it out I'm game.  You all may have to run Sat. morning without me.

Cool- countdown to the weekend is on!

4 miles w/ Heather.  I thought she was gonna go easy on us, but she picked a route with some good climbs! Just keeping us sharp for Veyo hill I guess- good idea...10 min. av. pace.  I think our pace would have been faster but the 1 steep hill slowed us down.  I felt good today, first day in over a week that my left leg wasn't sore.  I'll be packing Ibuprofen for sure on Sat.

Update:  Lybi & James- I really like your Gold, Silver, Bronze goals.  I'm gonna steal that idea here for my SGM goals- any medal I get (even if its just the finisher medal),  I will still come out a winner -right?!

Gold- anything under 4hrs- even 3:59, I'll take it!  My Hurricane 1/2 marathon pace this year was 9:08 with 2 potty stops (yeah stomach issues that day) I'm hoping with all my training I may be able to maintain that 1/2 pace for a marathon- but it is a LOFTY goal so that's why its GOLD!

Silver- under 4:10

Bronze- under 4:20

Walked 2 miles today.  Help? I don't really know if I'm tapering right.  I'm just going off marathon training plans.  But it feels weird not to be running so close to the marathon.  I think I'll do at least a couple miles tomorrow.  And I'm planning on a short run Friday too for sure.

Heather & I did 3 easy miles to loosen up.  Didn't time it, but it felt fast & smooth.  Really good after 2 days of walking!!! If only I could feel that good for 26.2!

Can't believe the marathon is TOMORROW! I'm pumped to go to the expo today & meet all you bloggers tonight! Wish I could be at the finish to see our bloggers come in as the top finishers- on well, I'll still be running long after that! Everyone keep your fingers crossed for decent weather tomorrow!

Ran my 1st marathon today! Where to begin the race report... I was planning on starting with the 4 hr. pace guys- but got caught up in the bathroom line and missed them.  Started w/ some friends pretty far back in the pack.  Within the 1st mile my 4 hr. pace band fell off and I realized I ran the 1st mile in 9:41.  This wouldn't do- so I took off and tried to catch the 4 hr. pace setter.  The first 7 miles were great, I was feeling good.  The weather wasn't nearly as bad as predicted and I was fine in shorts, long slv. tech tee, gloves & hat.  I knew miles 7-11 would be tough due to the incline around Veyo.  I took this pretty well.  I reached the 1/2 marathon point in about 2 hrs.  I knew I was cutting it really close to my goal of coming in just under 4 hrs (I really wanted 3:59 or anything just under 4).  I tried to make all water stops brief.  I took GU about every 4-5 miles and followed it up w/ water or gatorade.  I also grabbed a banana piece and orange slice at a couple of the stops.  I was really happy that I never had the hit the porta potties during the run- I was expecting to need them.  I passed up a couple water stops and didn't stop at them at all- so I think I used my time pretty wisely as far as aid stations are concerned.  My family was at mile 16 which was awesome! It helped me get from the 1/ 2 marathon pt. to 16.  About mile 18 my calves were tight! I stopped briefly (maybe 15 seconds?) for a calf rub- wonderful! I guess I lost a few seconds there- but I was so distracted by my tight calves that it was affecting my pace. From this point on I took it mile by mile trying to keep a 9 min. mile pace.  When I got to 23 I thought I had it made. But apparently I was off in my pacing.  I missed my goal of under 4 hrs. by 54 seconds!!! The last 2 miles were stressful because I knew I was cutting it really close to my goal and I wanted it so bad!  My brother Scott & his family were cheering me at the .2 mark and I almost missed them because I was in the zone! And Michelle, McCall and some of the bloggers were cheering at the end but again- in the zone- didn't even see them.  Thanks for your support everyone! I learned a lot from having to pace myself with only a stopwatch!  I need a Garmin or stay with someone who will help me pace next year.  I'm confident I could cut off 54 seconds! My body feels pretty good, who knows what 24-48 hrs. will bring though.  My toes are terrible. I gotta find the right shoes for me.  I've had terrible luck this year with that! 1/2 of my toes are really blistered and I'm sure I'll be loosing some more toenails again- already lost some in training- lovely! Overall a great race with great weather and great support staff.  It was a little lonely running by myself for the whole time, but luckily I had pretty good tunes on my IPOD.  Buff qualified for Boston 3:40:35!!!! She was so happy she was in tears, I was so happy for her! Heather's goal was 4:28 and she did 4:13 so she did awesome too and was thrilled.  Matt & Chris and their 10 yr. old son all finished in 4:28.  He was the youngest runner this year! Congrats to Paul, Clyde and all the blog guys who came in so fast!!! Sasha I didn't see your results yet but I'm sure you rocked!! Mik'L thanks again for hosting last night.  I had cash for you that I forgot to give you so I'll have to catch up with you at a club run or something! Had so much fun meeting you all! What a great group! Hope we have more fun times ahead in our little running world! Lybi- can't wait to put on my socks tonight- you're the best!

THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND SUPPORT!

It was especially fun to read my friends & family members' posts who are not on the blog- believe me, I'm trying to convert everyone I can to "the blog"!

What an amazing weekend.  Back to reality now.  I'm sitting here wearing my marathon shirt, like everyone else I'm sure.  Yesterday it was so nice to chill in my snuggly socks and Lybi gave me and watch conference.  Isn't it perfect that conference is the day after the marathon so you don't have to get up and go anywhere! I do feel bad about missing Saturday's sessions though... have to wait for the Ensign...

Anyway- walked 2 miles Sunday afternoon and again 2 miles today- walked Arielle to school with my hyper puppy pulling on a leash- ouch- my muscles didn't like that today.  When I woke up Sunday my achilles were SO tight! I had to walk straight legged to the kitchen, grab the ice packs and ibuprofen- then right to the computer to read race reports and prop my heels on ice.  Much better after a little ice.  I tried to not sit still in one place too long yesterday.  This morning my achilles were TIGHT again, but loosened up quicker than yesterday and I never took any more ibuprofen after the intial 800 mg yesterday morning.  Sorry for all the boring details- just want to be able to remember this in case I'm crazy enough to run another marathon!

I'm already looking for 5k and 10ks! There's a 5k Oct. 27th and a 10K the beginning of Nov.  I think I'll do one! Better make sure I can run again first though- Ha!

Tomorrow I'm getting a massage- my sweet hubby gave me a gift cert for one.  Wed. I may attempt a couple slow miles.

Used my massage gift certificiate today.  It was AWESOME! I feel so great.  My body is recovering well- just barely stiff today.  I just hate looking at my ugly blistered toes.  I think Heather & I are going to run a few miles tomorrow.

First run since the marathon today! Met Heather early this am (it was hard to get up since the kids don't have school today!) We walked for about 1/2 mi. then ran 2.5 and walked another .5 to cool down.  It was strange because when I run I'm not as sore as when I walk! It did feel like running through mud though.  I felt like I could have run a little farther.  I think I'll try 3 tomorrow (NOT including walking) Yeah- I fibbed a little today and put our distance even though we walked some of it - hee hee....

What a beautiful morning! I'm getting stoked for fall! I slept in until almost 8:30 and it was great! Kids are on Fall Break and husband was in bed after a night shift so how could I possibly get up- until Arielle dragged me out of bed anyway...What a lazy gal I am... After I got the kids breakfast and going for the day I took off for a neighborhood 4 miler.  Me & the IPOD.  I made sure I had 15 motivating songs ready to go.  I felt pretty good on this run! My arches are still a bit sore and I stopped to stretch my feet after about 2.5, but otherwise ran the whole time.  Finish time 39:45 so just barely under 10 min. miles.  I'm training to be able to keep my marathon battered body in pace w/ Michelle & Mik'l on Saturday!

Goose egg today! I took the dog for a walk does that count? Making the most of this Fall Break my kids are having from school- I slept in again! Slept away my running time.  Oh well, its "zero" marathon recovery week right? (some would argue that I know, even part of me argues, but its a good excuse for being lazy anyway!)

Spent the day paying bills (payday) and running around town getting clothes ready for our family photo that we're having done tomorrow.  Haven't had one in 5 yrs, so I'm excited.  Going out for sushi tonight w/ friends- good thing I'll be running it off tomorrow w/ the gals!

Michelle & Mik'L I'm ready to run tomorrow.  I'm planning on 7:30 at convention center (parking by bathrooms next to park).  I'll check your blogs to make sure that's the right time & place, let me know if anything changes! Looking forward to it!

Great run w/ Michelle & Mik'L today.  Glad Mik'L could introduce me to a new route.  I think the girls' ears are still aching from all my talking!  Thanks for the great company! Our average pace was about 10:09 (I think, from what I figured... ) I felt better than expected for a week after the marathon.  Felt bad for Mik'L having her foot fall asleep again- that must be irritating!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Great run w/ Buff & Heather this morning.  Foremaster- haven't done those hills in awhile- tough! Running with Buff really made us push it a little more than usual. 9:40 pace.  Hope I'm not too tired the rest of the day.  I have a crazy busy week w/ church and PTA assignments.

Mileage today... huh... does running around from store to store- single handedly planning a "Super Saturday" count? Ha, I wish!

Going to bed early tonight. So tired, probably because I didn't run today. Was supposed to go to gym and run a little on treadmill then do weight class- but couldn't get motivated to get out of bed (6am class).  Love the results of weight class, but don't enjoy class enough to want to get out of bed. Told Heather I must pick her up from now on so I have to get out of bed.  Looking forward to run w/ Heather & Mik'l tomorrow. My new weekly plan is:

Mon- Run 6

Tues- 2 mi. on treadmill, weight class

Wed- Run  ( 5 or hills or speedwork )

Thurs- 2 mi. at gym before weight class

Fri- Run 5+

Sat- Run

Want to get in about 25 mi. a week on average.  More when training for longer runs. Adrianne- I'm thinking about taking up your challenge of 2008 mi. in 2008, but not ready to give up the weight class and just not sure how to fit it all in and still have energy for other things? Advice anyone?

Ran 6 x 200 meter repeats at track today with Heather & Mik'L.  Mik'L is a fast little track coach! Loved having her set the pace.  My repeats ranged from 42-45 seconds.  Goal is to get more 42s and eventually bring them down.  My body didn't want to remember how to go fast AT ALL! Felt like I was floundering around.  It will get better I'm sure as we make it a more regular thing.  Also ran to & from track from Heather's about .75 each way- so total distance about 2.25.

Guess what! I finally got Heather to join the blog! Say "hey" to her at "Heather's Blog"

Had to multi- task my run today.  Had to deliver flyers for church so it was kinda a crazy jog all over the neighborhood.  I hope to get in a couple more uninterrupted miles later today.

As for the whole gym saga- I realized I just don't have the motivation to make it to the 6am classes.  I only like to get up that early for something I enjoy and at this point- that's running.  Since I work from home and my kids are in school all day- its easy for me to workout right after I take the kids to school- so I'm having trouble getting motivated to get up at 5:30 unless I'm going to meet one of my wonderful running partners!

I will try to supplement toning at home w/ videos or go to later classes at the gym. Sorry to be so flaky about the gym Heather!

UPDATE: SASHA HAS ISSUED A GREAT CHALLENGE.  ONE I'M ACTUALLY CONSIDERING.  HE THINKS I CAN RUN A 3:30 MARATHON IF I'LL RUN 6 MILES/ 6 DAYS A WEEK.  I WAS STILL TRYING TO DECIDE IF I'M A MARATHON RUNNER OR NOT, BUT THIS IDEA OF SASHA'S IS REALLY TEMPTING! I THINK 3:30 IS REALLY AMBITIOUS- THAT WOULD MEAN I'D NEED SASHA'S WILL POWER AND CONSISTENCY.  BUT I'M THINKING MAYBE I COULD GO FOR A BQT? I'M GONNA SLEEP ON IT....

New route w/ Heather today.  I was actually trying to add a little onto our 5 mile Little Valley Loop, but then realized we'd added on a lot and were going to have a time problem (both had to get back to get kids ready to school) SO then I cut it a different direction and it ended up being 5 after all.  Fun to run a different route anyway.  Lots of mild incline too to keep us working hard.  Heather's company got me through this run, my body was NOT cooperating- sluggish! Neither of us took watches.  I drove the course when we got back.  From my best guess we ran about 10:30-10:40 pace.  I know Heather could've gone faster today, but not sure I could have!

Yeah- Monday! When I got up this morning I was dragging, but after the 6 miler w/ Buff & Heather everything looks brighter! I'm so glad its a new week and fresh start.  I had a rough week last week- lots of stress (much of it self induced) mostly from saying YES to too many church & PTA resposibilities. My miles suffered for it.  Now this week I'm going to take charge of life a bit more and not dish out my "Yes" so quickly.  Today I'm just staying home and catching up on housework and mortgage work that didn't get much attention last week.

Was shooting for a 6 miler, but when I went back and clocked it - it was only a 5.6.  Sure do need a garmin-hope Santa brings one. I'm looking at the new Forerunner 50- nice and small like a regular watch! All I want is to measure pace & distance, don't care about heart monitor.  I know the 50 doesn't use satelite, but that's OK w/ me if the distance & pace are fairly accurate.  Anyone used the new garmin forerunner 50 yet? Feedback?

Beautiful run this morning.  Went out around 9am.  Just me & the IPOD.  Still feeling slow & like I'm recovering from the marathon. 9:44 average pace.  Figuring how to dress for new cooler weather.  It was in the 50s so I started w/ running tights (yeah, scary looking), long. slv tech shirt, light fleece and headband.  Shed the fleece & headband after the first mile.  Was still hot in the tights.  Next time in the 50s a long slv shirt & shorts should do.

Happy I got my (almost) 6 in.  2 days in a row- that's good for me lately!

Heather & I ran from her house to foremaster and back. At foremaster ran up it and flat loop on top then back down- 2x.  Total mileage 4.6.  Brought my IPOD today for the uphills, really helped.  Would have liked to get in 1 more uphill loop (1 mi) but ran out of time.  Perfect combination on hard workout w/ IPOD and nice conversation on the flat & downhill.  Tomorrow planning on 6.2 loop.  Haven't quite decided what I'll do Friday.  Saturday- Save a Sister 5K. Much happier with my mileage this week compared to last.  Haven't quite made my 6 mi. a day, but pretty close and hoping to close out the week around 30.

Warmed up in long. slv. tech shirt over t-shirt, ended up running in t-shirt & pants.  Perfect for today's 50 degrees.

Met Heather at 5:45, little valley loop w/ some add on to make longer. 9:40 average pace.  Temp. was good and I liked meeting earlier.  Gave me time to stretch afterwards before rushing to get kids ready for school.  Struggled a bit with the run, just feeling slow and sluggish- like I have bad form.  Maybe I'm not sleeping enough- only averaging 6.5 or 7 hrs. a night.  Like Lybi pointed out once, that's like missing a night's sleep 1x a week! I gotta get better at this.  My arches are a bit sore.  Think I will take it easy tomorrow (walk) then race the 5k Sat. Not really feeling prepared to race, but want to use this 5K to gauge where I'm at as far as speed and shorter races are concerned.  Would love to get around 25 min, but that's probably optimistic for the shape I'm in.  My PR is 24:25 from this past spring but then I ran in July and got 26ish (don't remember exact time) So its a grab bag- we'll just have to wait and see!

Save-A-Sister 5k tomorrow.  Riding over w/ Crystal (sis-in-law who's going to do the walk) and Sara who's doing her 1st 5k.  Gonna hopefully find Mik'L over there and warm up together.  Night night...

Ran Save A Sister 5K today.  Went w/ Crystal & Sara.  Crystal was doing the 1 mile walk w/ my 2 yr. old niece Mylie.  Sara was running her 1st 5k! (good job Sara!) Saw Mik'l & Clyde and their cute dogs there- Mik'l rocked the 10k!! Also saw Jeannie from the SG Running Store- she passed me & I couldn't catch her- she was cruising! It was a nice group of people that organized the race and I felt good being part of such a great cause (money goes to help local breast cancer program at hospital) It was chilly & overcast at start.  Decided on lg. slv. tech shirt & shorts, wore gloves until right before start.  That worked out well.  I started in the front of the pack, hoping that would force me to start faster.  It worked- first mile about 7:45, but slowed down for the last 2.  Out & back course on the St. George trail by Dixie Convention Center, fairly flat. Thought it would get congested, but glad it didn't.  25:02 final time. 8:03 pace. Not a PR, but probably my 2nd fastest 5k, so I'm OK w/ that.  I'm sore already this afternoon so I know I pushed it! I scored a nice award (probably the nicest I've received) for 3rd in my age division.  Nice etched glass block type trophy.  First award I've gotten in over a year- so that was a really nice ego booster.

Well- I started coming down w/ a sore throat Sunday and I was hoping it was just something I had eaten. This morning when I woke up it was still around so I was lazy and stayed in bed.  I'm also terrible about taking too many days off after races.  So today I had 2 lame excuses that kept me in bed.  But tomorrow I am running 4 w/ Sara.  And I plan on going strong the rest of the week unless this cold progresses too much.  At this point its just a little sore throat, no biggie.

Met Sara and did a 4 mile neighborhood route.  This was her longest run ever and she did great- esp. listening to me gab the whole time- that's the hardest part of the run- HA! We did end up walking probably about 1/2 mi so the 4.4 posted about includes the total distance inc. walking.  I ran a faster (not quite sprint, but at least tempo)  .2 after I dropped her off at her house- just for funsies.  Felt good, the sore throat hasn't gotten any worse.  I think the day of rest yesterday did me good.  I do need new shoes though, gotta visit Steve at the running store this week.

Oh and I'm considering running the Snow Canyon race on Nov. 17th, just haven't decided if I want to run the 5k or 1/2.  Not sure I'm 1/2 ready right now, but it looks like a fun- mostly downhill course.  Any of you bloggers running it?

Hope everyone has some fun holiday plans? I know my day will be filled w/ elementary school parties, costume parade and singing program, then onto trunk or treat and entirely TOO much candy for everyone! But fun fun!

Track workout today w/ Mik'L and "T" (Tia? sorry can't remember!) They are fast. I tried to mimick their smooth sprinter form, but my body wouldn't cooperate. I warmed up for 1.5 lap around the track, then 6 x 200s.  My first 3- 200s were pretty consistent about 42/43 seconds, but then my body was done.  I think #4 was about 43 also.  Then #5 I tried to push it and almost hurled! #6 was a joke.  Oh well.  At least I'm happy that the first 3 were good.  Usually I have a warm up 200, then a good one, then the rest are slower.  I guess 3-4 consistent ones is improvement.  Afterwards I went over to Heather's neighborhood hoping to meet up w/ her (but couldn't) and ran 1.2 around her neighborhood. Missed Heather today due to a Hannah revolt and Sara due to a yucky cold.  Better luck next time gals!

Happy I got in over 100 miles this month.  Goal for next month- 105.
