Ran Save A Sister 5K today.  Went w/ Crystal & Sara.  Crystal was doing the 1 mile walk w/ my 2 yr. old niece Mylie.  Sara was running her 1st 5k! (good job Sara!) Saw Mik'l & Clyde and their cute dogs there- Mik'l rocked the 10k!! Also saw Jeannie from the SG Running Store- she passed me & I couldn't catch her- she was cruising! It was a nice group of people that organized the race and I felt good being part of such a great cause (money goes to help local breast cancer program at hospital) It was chilly & overcast at start.  Decided on lg. slv. tech shirt & shorts, wore gloves until right before start.  That worked out well.  I started in the front of the pack, hoping that would force me to start faster.  It worked- first mile about 7:45, but slowed down for the last 2.  Out & back course on the St. George trail by Dixie Convention Center, fairly flat. Thought it would get congested, but glad it didn't.  25:02 final time. 8:03 pace. Not a PR, but probably my 2nd fastest 5k, so I'm OK w/ that.  I'm sore already this afternoon so I know I pushed it! I scored a nice award (probably the nicest I've received) for 3rd in my age division.  Nice etched glass block type trophy.  First award I've gotten in over a year- so that was a really nice ego booster.

yay for a prize. I don't think I've ever gotten a prize. I think I've been running the wrong races. Very good time too...especially considering you may still be recovering a bit from the marathon. Good job!!

Great job, Christi!!!!! Cool trophy, sounds like. Sounds like it was fun, too.

From Lybi on Sat, Oct 27, 2007 at 19:11:01

GREAT RACE! 2nd fastest 5K ever, and wow, that award sounds cool!

Great job scoring some points for the FRB chicks! You deserve a pedicure, at the very least. :)

Sarah - you've actually won your age division at least once when you ran 24:19 in the 5 K. Christy - this may have very well been a PR effort if this course was accurate. Little 5 Ks are notorious for having a short course, so your old 24:25 may have been on a short course. In any case, make sure to maintain the mileage, and the 5 K speed will eventually come.

From Brent on Sat, Oct 27, 2007 at 20:43:58

Always nice to get an award for a hard effort. You ran the race as a gutsy runner, go out fast and hang on. 20 commando points. Most 5K PRs are ran that way. It seems from Lybi's comments, you FRB chicks need to start counting the guys you chick in a race. Great effort. I expect all FRB chicks to start giving us a guy chicked report each race. I don't count chicks, but I do count positive and negative road kill from the half way point in each race. B of BS Rools out, stay cool and run brave.

Good job Christi! I think you should be VERY happy with your time, especially considering you ran a marathon a 3 weeks ago! Clyde said he is not ready to race at all yet. Plus it's a smokin time! I wish I would have got to see your cool trophy! Let me know your running plans next week so maybe we can hook up a time or two? I would like to keep up the Wednesday morning track workouts.

Great job, Christi! The trophy sounds awesome. It can be hard to keep the motivation going after a marathon-sounds like you're doing great in that department too!

From Christi on Sun, Oct 28, 2007 at 10:05:11

Thanks guys!

Yeah Sarah- you gotta know how to pick the small races w/ no competition- like me to get the awards- ha! j/k..Sasha- you brought up some good food for thought concerning the course. I do wonder if my PR course was short because it was so much faster than all my others-

Brent & Lybi you crack me up w/ the chicking guys stuff. This race was cool because there was lots of women leading- all could see if front of me was women. I think I only chicked a guy or 2- but I'm gonna start counting!

Brent your phrase "Be Strong, Be Brave" that you posted to me the day before the run really helped me- I kept telling it to myself when I wanted to slow down- THANK YOU!

Mik'L- we're on Wed. at the track for sure! I'll let you know about Monday soon- not sure what we're doing.

Shauna & Laura- thanks for the support as always- you guys rock!

CONGRATS! What a great time and a great race! Ditto to everyone else's comments, you are doing great.

Nice 5K Christi - sounds like youre on your way to doing that 3:30 marathon that Sasha thinks you can do with the right training
