Easy run + level 2 Shred.

7:20 am, 62° F, 81% humidity, winds calm.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their kind and supportive comments on my blog last Saturday. They really meant a lot to me.

I was quite sore after my run last Saturday and my right foot and left knee were really hurting all day on Sunday, so I decided not to run on Monday. I was going to run on Tuesday morning, but all of my shorts were in the washing machine. But this morning I had no excuses. I'm taking the day off from work to go to a Rockies baseball game with my husband and third son this afternoon, so I could sleep in a bit and still run this morning. My foot hurt a bit throughout the run and my knee starting hurting a little towards the end, but neither of them hurt enough to change my gait.

I just have to say, that third circuit of the level 2 Shred is tough. It always makes me sweat a bunch.

I took a vacation from worry and stress yesterday, but woke up this morning with them staring me straight in the face. I had a hard time getting out for a run, but finally decided that short run was better than nothing and figured that maybe the run would make me feel a little bit better, which it did.

The start of the school year is always stressful, particularly for the teacher in my family. It's also a financial drain with fees, school supplies, and clothes.

I neglected to wear a hat on my run this morning. I think that's the first time I've ever forgotten a hat. As a result, I had more sweat in my eyes than I normally would with only 4 miles in relatively cool weather.

I was meeting Lindsay at her house at 6:15 this morning. I like to give myself 20 minutes to get there, but I only had 19 this morning, so I ran just a little bit faster than usual to get there. She and I ran 3.5 miles together, and then I ran 1.1 miles home by myself. Lindsay is stressed out because her basement flooded, so we talked mostly about that. I don't know if it was because I started faster or if it was because she was stressed, but we ran the part together a little faster than usual. We usually have at least a couple of miles slower than 10:00, but the slowest we got was about 9:45.

I normally do the Shred on Friday's but I didn't feel like doing it this morning. I'm going to try to get to work at a decent time for a change.

It was relatively cool this morning and cloudy, which was nice. It was a little humid, but not too bad, and the breeze was good.

I did not run a respectable Saturday distance today. I ran on the Highline Canal Trail with Carly. She wanted to run 6 miles and I didn't have the will to keep running after she stopped. Also, my knee was starting to bother me a bit.

Carly and I had a nice conversation about politics while we ran.

I had to give up my Monday's running with Lindsay so that Carly can run with Lindsay on Mondays. Carly refuses to run before 7:00 and Lindsay has the flexibility to go later on Mondays. Lindsay needs to go earlier on Fridays, so we'll run together then. Lindsay is just popular I guess.

I should have done the Shred today, but it's the first day of school for my daughter and I've got to take extra time this morning to take her and her piles of school supplies over to the school this morning. Two of my boys start school tomorrow, but I'll just kick them out the door and make them walk. My oldest boy leaves for college a week from Thursday.

I just kind of wandered around this morning and made up a new route. Of course it was bits and pieces of routes I  regularly run put together in a different way. There are not that many different places I can run when I run from home.

I thought about running a little longer today but I wanted to be home before my boys left for school with it being their first day of school and all. Actually, I always need to be home before they leave, but I can cut it closer than I did today.

I had to cut my run just a little short because I was late getting out the door. But it's good that I got out the door at all because I considered bagging it. I have to be home by 7:00, so if I want to run longer than about 6 miles, I need to start getting up earlier. I should probably try to get home by 6:45 if I'm going to do the Shred because the rest of my morning is really rushed if I don't start the Shred until 7:00.

GA run.

6:12 am, 66° F, 40% humidity, wind 10 SSE.

I was late getting out the door again this morning, but rather than cutting my run short, I ran past 7:00. I can still do that because my oldest doesn't go away to college until next Thursday, so he's home with the little one if I'm late getting in. I'll have to do better at getting up early starting next Thursday.

I took a different route this morning. I did a loop that went from Colorado Blvd to County Line Road on University for the second mile and that's a nice downhill stretch. I spent the rest of the run getting back up to the elevation I started at, but it was intermittent and gradual and not too bad. The Garmin says about 600 ft of elevation gain/loss on this route. I like this route. I even got to run through a bunch of really big sprinklers that got me quite wet. The only problem with this route is that I have to cross Colorado Blvd twice, and so I waste some time waiting for stop lights.

I'm calling this a GA run instead of an easy run because I pushed the pace a little bit.

It was really nice weather for running this morning, though a little cooler would have been great too. I arranged to meet Lindsay 10 minutes earlier than we've done in the past, but then I didn't get out my door quite early enough. I like to give myself 20 minutes to get to her house, but I only had 12 minutes this morning, so I had to take a shorter route than I usually take. I guess about 11 or 12 minutes is the minimum time to get to her house because I took the shortest available route this morning.

I've got a busy day today, but what else is new? I will try to check people's blogs one of these days. I'm sorry I've been such a slacker in that regard.

Progression run.

Carly moved our Saturday Highline Canal Trail meeting time up to 7:00, which is good. I like to sleep in on Saturdays, but it's good to get up and get the run done relatively early while it's cool and shady on the trail. Carly brought two friends today, so there were four of us running together. We did 5 miles together and then I did three more on my own. I'm calling this a progression run because I sped up after I left the group and got progressively faster until the end of the run, with the last mile qualifying for my "fast mile" designation.

Level 2 Shred + easy run.

6:18 am, 58°F, 90% humidity, winds calm.

I did some rearranging of the jigsaw puzzle that is my morning and got up and did the Shred first and then went out for my run. The purpose behind this is to fit in a family prayer after 6:00 when Thing 3 gets up and before 6:20 when Thing 2 leaves for seminary. It's easier to fit in the Shred before 6:00 and than to fit in a run.

I don't know if it's because I did the Shred first or if it's because I didn't sleep well last night, but I felt more sluggish than usual at the start of my run. My pace was typical of what it usually is, but it felt a little tougher at first.

I've got a really busy week this week. Seminary started today, I've got to somehow get my oldest son to the dentist in the middle of the day tomorrow, it's my 20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, there's a scout court of honor on Wednesday, I've got to move my oldest son to Greeley for college on Thursday, I've got to go to two back-to-school nights on Thursday and my husband can't help because he has back-to-school night at the school where he teaches, and it's Thing 2's 16th birthday on Saturday. And I've got a ton of stuff to do at work. So I'll probably have to neglect blogs again this week. I hope this frantic pace lets up soon.

General aerobic run.

6:03 am, 53° F, 82% humidity, wind 5 SSE.

I was actually just a little bit chilly when I first went out this morning in shorts and a short-sleeved shirt. But once I got going, the temperature was great. I slept better last night than the night before and didn't do the Shred this morning, so I had a little more energy for running and ran a little bit faster than yesterday. So I'm calling this a general aerobic run instead of an easy run.

I realized last night that I scheduled my son's dentist appointment at the same time this morning has the doctor's appointment that I scheduled for him two months ago. I've got to cancel the doctor's appointment. The dentist appointment is more crucial at this point.

Incidentally, the total time for my run today was 57:58.59. I thought that was kind of funny.

In case anyone remembers the hundreds of things I was supposed to do this week, I missed both the elementary school and high school back-to-school nights last night because I stayed in Greeley longer than I had intended and was beat when I got home. I did nothing after I got home and went to bed early.

As a result of not doing some of the things last night that I normally do in the evening (mainly making lunches), I had to do those things this morning before my run. This caused me to skip the Shred and get out the door late, and so I was 5 minutes late meeting Lindsay. Because I was late, I ran the 1.1 miles to her house a little faster than I usually start out. Then even when we were running together, maybe because I had started faster and maybe because I was anxious about several things, we ran faster than we usually do together. It would be interesting to see what our splits were, but I don't have them. I paused my watch when I got to Lindsay's house, and then forgot to start it again. By the time I realized it, it was almost the end of the run, and so I just left it off. When I got home, I started it, hit the lap button, and stopped it, so that I would record the time I finished. I also had my start time, so I was able to figure out how long I was running and I used mapmyrun.com to get the distance. Based on the total time and the distance, we had an average pace of 8:56. I know my first mile was 9:25, and I was running 8:40 pace for the additional .1 mile to her house, so we must have kept up a pretty good clip together, faster than I usually make her run.

In other news, I talked to Michelle last night. She got to the hospital at about 2 pm on Tuesday and had the baby at about 5:30 pm, so her labor was pretty quick even though she was induced. Everything went well. She had a baby boy. He was 7 lbs. exactly and I think she said 19 inches, but maybe it was 19.5 or something. I can't remember. They're home and are doing well. Michelle says she's feel really good and went for a walk yesterday and felt good.

I didn't manage to drag myself out of bed early enough to get the shred done before running today. I'm thinking maybe I'll switch the shred to T, Th, S instead of M, W, F because I always have a particularly hard time getting up on Monday mornings.

I didn't run last Saturday because I was so stinkin' busy and it was my second son's 16th birthday and I had to make him a birthday breakfast. After all the major upheaval my family went through last week, I'm hoping things we settle down and we can get into a routine this week.

This sending a kid off to college is a strange feeling. He really hasn't been home much for the last year or so, but this is different. Suddenly I'm very concerned about him and interested in what he's doing.

Well, I finally dragged myself out the door this morning after skipping my runs for the last three days. Maybe I'm too a stage where I need a running partner to keep me going. I ran today because I was meeting up with Lindsay.

This week hasn't been as busy as last week, with the exception of last night. However, I was so physically and emotionally exhausted from last week, that I felt like I needed some time off. Also, my house was more of a wreck than usual on account of the craziness last week, so I've spent my running time for the last three days just trying to catch up with the dishes and the laundry. I did manage to do the Shred on Tuesday, but I didn't exercise at all on Wednesday or Thursday. But the thing about dishes and laundry is it's always time to do them again.

Work is still really busy with no end in sight. I've worked about 10 hours/day every day this week.

Lindsay was available to run with me this morning and it's a good thing because I might have slept in otherwise. I wish I had a running partner more days of the week because that would help me get through this low-motivation stretch I'm going through.

This week should not be quite as busy as the last few weeks. I think that extra-curricular activities are kept to a minimum this week unless there's something I'm not remembering. However, I've got to be to work an hour earlier than usual for a meeting tomorrow and I don't think I can manage to run an hour earlier than usual given my current condition. Maybe I should try. We'll see.

I ran the first mile plus a little bit alone, then about 4 miles with Lindsay, then the remaining almost one and a half on my own. I didn't take the shortest route home after splitting from Lindsay.
