Easy run.

6:02 am, 74° F, 39% humidity, wind 3 S.

I didn't manage to drag myself out of bed early enough to get the shred done before running today. I'm thinking maybe I'll switch the shred to T, Th, S instead of M, W, F because I always have a particularly hard time getting up on Monday mornings.

I didn't run last Saturday because I was so stinkin' busy and it was my second son's 16th birthday and I had to make him a birthday breakfast. After all the major upheaval my family went through last week, I'm hoping things we settle down and we can get into a routine this week.

This sending a kid off to college is a strange feeling. He really hasn't been home much for the last year or so, but this is different. Suddenly I'm very concerned about him and interested in what he's doing.

AP: 9:36. Splits: 10:25, 10:05, 9:39, 9:21, 9:17, 9:06, 0.5 @ 8:53. Another unintentional progressing run. It helps that I started out really slowly.

ah ... empty nest syndrome begins ;-). Luckily your son is not very far away. Perfect distance actually, close enough that you (or he) can get together easily, but far enough away that he can feel he is independent. Good luck with this week, I hope it is less stressful than the last.

I have struggled to find balance when each of my kids have left home. I have two more at home... I think I will be a basket case when my youngest leaves. It is strange... I understand the feeling of needing to know what they are doing and how they are. It's great when you realize that they are doing OK... That you have taught them enough for them to be on their own.

From Snoqualmie on Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 11:57:05 from 24.18.192.33

I cannot even imagine it. Some days I think I will have to keep SnoFlake home until her 30s. By then I should be ok with her dating too. Take care.

hey Carolyn...sorry that things have been so crazy and a bit stressful. I don't have to approach sending kids off for several years. I do have a quick question, what is 'shredding'?

From RAD on Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 13:25:24 from 67.172.229.125

Nice job on the run and trying to get life back to 'normal' - I've heard so many stories this past week of friends sending their oldest off to college. I don't know how you can handle it! I'm still having a hard time with Kindergarten!

Good job staying so consistent throughout all the stuff you've got going on.

Nice run Carolyn. I am nervous about sending my 3 big kids to all-day 1st grade. I can't imagine what it will be like to send all of them off to college at once. Hope life mellows out this week!

Keep staying sane! You're doing great so far :)

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 22:59:05 from 24.8.167.243

Barb, the shred is a workout video called "Jillian Michael's 30-Day Shred."

I'm still a long ways from an empty nest. The youngest is in 3rd grade.

For those of you with young children just starting school, by the time their teenagers you may want to get rid of them sometimes, but you still miss them when they're gone.

From Burt on Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 23:28:38 from 68.225.214.248

How do you run so fast in that heat???

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 23:30:56 from 24.8.167.243

Fast? Heat? Did you comment on the wrong blog, Burt?

From Burt on Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 23:33:53 from 68.225.214.248

Oh yeah. Sorry.

No! I was just kidding about the hot, but you're way faster than me.

From Barb on Tue, Aug 24, 2010 at 00:38:58 from 68.32.213.30

Thanks Carolyn. I just ordered it to take back with me to Africa. It will be a good workout for me when it's hard to get outside. Thanks!

is your oldest liking school so far?

From The Quiet Pirate on Tue, Aug 24, 2010 at 18:21:01 from 65.191.108.72

Nice progressive run. Is there any way to start running that early in the morning other than slowly?

From calliej on Wed, Aug 25, 2010 at 00:21:17 from 97.126.139.34

Wow!! College!! I can even imagine! My oldest just turned 12 and I am having a hard time with that. But It is sure fun to watch them grow up. I just wish it didn't happen so dang fast. :)

From Bonnie on Thu, Aug 26, 2010 at 13:03:05 from 64.119.33.134

Hi CinC ... are you ok?

From RAD on Thu, Aug 26, 2010 at 13:04:00 from 67.172.229.125

Bonnie beat me to it, I was going to see how your week has been. I hope life is trudging on...even if just barely.

From Kelli on Thu, Aug 26, 2010 at 18:39:43 from 71.219.102.155

You are so busy, I do not know how you manage to do it all! And I bet sending your oldest away has not been easy, It would be WEIRD!

Hope all is well!!!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, Aug 26, 2010 at 23:18:51 from 24.8.167.243

I'm ok. I just haven't run since Monday. I've been working long hours and trying to get some housework done in the mornings when I would normally be running. I've got an appointment to run with Lindsay tomorrow, so I guess I'll get out there.
