Easy run.

6:55 am, 58° F, 77%, winds calm.

I took a vacation from worry and stress yesterday, but woke up this morning with them staring me straight in the face. I had a hard time getting out for a run, but finally decided that short run was better than nothing and figured that maybe the run would make me feel a little bit better, which it did.

The start of the school year is always stressful, particularly for the teacher in my family. It's also a financial drain with fees, school supplies, and clothes.

I neglected to wear a hat on my run this morning. I think that's the first time I've ever forgotten a hat. As a result, I had more sweat in my eyes than I normally would with only 4 miles in relatively cool weather.

Nice work Carolyn! I always try to remember how good it feels when I'm done as I try to pry myself out of bed in the morning!

Good luck with the back to school thing, it's nice to have them back in, but I can see how it would all be quite stressful (for mothers and teachers!)

Sorry about the stressful day. Lucky us, we are runners, and it is probably the best thing for stress.

Is your husband a teacher??? The starting of school is good and i can not believe how much money i fork out each year (especially in school uniforms and supplies----times 5 kids!) The $$$$ stresses me out big time.

I am glad you had one worry free day, hoping for another one for you soon!

Yes, my husband is a teacher. He spent several years teaching elementary school orchestra, but that got cut, so last year he got stuck teaching high school choir and mariachi in an inner-city high school. It was a tough year dealing with a new job in a bad school. This year he is going to be at one of the elementary schools he worked at before, but as a general music teacher because they still haven't brought back band and orchestra. This is a better school (though in the same rough district), but again it's a new job for him teaching a subject that he hasn't taught before, so he's stressed out about it.

Yep, sometimes those shorter runs are nice because you don't have to stress so much about them! You kept a nice progressive pace, too.

I agree it is a chore to get the kids back in school - not only because of the big $$$ for fees, but it also takes a whole bunch of time to do the registration, wait in lines, fill out forms, etc. (Hum, things seemed simpler back in my days . . .)

I did not know that!! It is sad that all of that has been cut from schools. At the school where I taught we had an orchestra/band teacher that serviced like 10 elementary schools. BUT that only lasted one year. Then we had nothing! The last year we had a music teacher that did the same thing, not sure if they managed to find the funds to keep that up! Elementary school can be tough, especially in a rough area. Good luck to him and this new year!! I hope he enjoys it.

I hear you about the stress of school starting. I'm going school supply shopping tomorrow--the state of Illinois is suspending sales tax on school supplies and clothes and shoes under $100. It will help a little, as long as I don't overspend.

Tell your husband good luck on the start of this school year! Teaching something new can be scary, but I wish him the best!

Running is a terrific stress reliever for me, and it's healthier than drinking :D

Wow - that is a lot of stress! Hooray for a run to clear your head! Hopefully life will calm down soon!

Take another vacation! :-)

It always comes together though doesn't it?

Carolyn,

Hopefully your husband's new assignment won't require as much after hour time. High school band is such a needy time sponge. New jobs do have a year or two learning curve. I hope this one goes smoothly for him and your family. What affects one affects all.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one stressed with school shopping. I hate that we're expected to spend more money than christmas on a whole new wardrobe and the special colord 3 ring binder with pockets that no one sells anymore.

I'm glad you got out and got your run in. Glad to hear you missed the rain during the game yesterday too.

Tracy- It's funny that mention your tax free shopping week-end. We have the same thing here in NC. There was just a woman being interviewed on TV who is visiting NC from Chicago for a wedding. She said, "we don't have anything like this (tax free week-end) in Chicago, so I'm going to do lots of school shopping here in NC." I guess she didn't get the memo.

We lived in Texas for a couple of years and they had a tax-free day or weekend near the start of school, but we don't have that here in Colorado.

I don't buy my kids a whole new wardrobe, especially when they start in early August. They can still wear shorts for a while. I'll get them one or two new things now and something else later.

Good luck finishing your school shopping. Lot's of luck to your husband too, I am confident things will be better this year!!
