Sorry for the million questions! Love and miss you, cute girl!!! :) One more question: How's the hub and sweet Naomi? :) :) :)

I was sick over the weekend so I didn't get to run Friday or Saturday :(  BUT I feel much better today and hopefully I will be able to attain my goals for this week and month.  I am training for Boston and I really want a sub 3:20.  I know I have the ability, I just have to do speedwork, hill work, some cross training, eating healthy, rest (hahaha), and get some really great quality long runs in the tank,  That is really the plan for this race.  Currently, I can't get a total of 8 hours of sleep straight.  The baby still wakes up twice a night for feedings.  Ready for that to end but I would still be up to listen to her cry.

Today I ran in the morning because David didn't have to leave so early.  I got 7 miles in an 8:00 AP.  Yesterday I really didn't eat great, to say the least ( Super Bowl).  I am ready to be on track this week.  So my stomach felt pretty gross on this run.

This stunk.  Evening run and my guts were not having it.  Workout was:

1.5 mile warm up

3x1k@ 5k pace (6:30)

1.5 mile cool down

I actually got 4 of them in, I wanted 5. Then my stomach screamed and I stopped.  Extremely frustrated.

Did the stairmill for 5 min and I had to get off.

7 miles in dark:30. Baby was up a lot of the night (teething).  This was a real emotional run for me.  I cried for awhile and I sounded like a dying dog in the dark.  It was misty and lonely.  I ran housing loop 3x because certain parts of base were in total darkness. Got home and realized what a baby I had been.  For those 50 minutes, I seriously contemplated laying down in the middle of the road.  But who would get the baby when she cried?  Oh wait! me.  I wouldn't be able to run or walk and I would still have to listen to a crying baby.  I need to get over myself.

Hang on Becca! Every mother has hit their breaking point....even the ones who seem to have it all together. I've had my fair share of melt downs.

My only piece of advice is to make sure baby is fed and changed and then sleep when she does. Leave the house and other responsibilities and sleep. You will feels lot better.

Hang on girl!! ((Hugs))

Thank you so much Toby. Sometimes we think we are all alone in this motherhood thing, oh but we are NOT! Thanks for the advice. It's hard to let my house hang on by a thread but sometimes I just have to sleep.

Sending hugs and loves your way, Becca! I've had many of those melt-downs myself when I was raising babies...felt very alone and sleep deprived! Take care and know that this too will pass and it is all worth it!

I love redempotion runs.  David got up early again so I could go run.  I let Naomi "Cry it Out" last night and it wasn't that bad.  I felt more rested when I woke up.

It was pretty cold outside and the wind was fierce, so I opted to do the speed portion of my workout on the TM.

2 mile warm up outside

4 miles @ 10k pace (6:58, 8.6 on the TM) .5% grade

2.25 miles to cool down

It is so nice getting my runs done first thing in the morning.  Got home to baby cuddles.

Oh wow, what a great race and long run.

Got up with David and we decided that it was warm enough to bring Naomi along to the race.  It was his turn to push her in the stroller, so I got to test my speed.  We warmed up for about ten minutes and lined up to go.  This of course is the same exact course it is every race. and it the most difficult in the last half.  I watched David effortlessly push Naomi to the front of the one guy between David and I.  I wanted to beat that guy, but he was just too fast.  I thought that at the West gate I could catch him (that is where I usually catch people).  He did get slower but I couldn't get him.  I remember when I was barely starting to go up Commander's row, I looked up and I saw the lead vehicle with David on the club street.  Dang it, why does he have to make it look so easy peasy???  He was at least 2 minutes ahead of me at that point.  I don't think I will ever catch him.

I came in after blue shirt at 20:50, which is REALLY good for that course.  The last part of the race goes back up to the gym.  I was pleased with my time and I didn't feel great to my stomach.  We ran about two more miles after the race so I only had about 8 more miles by myself.  I started out pretty slow on my own and then I hit the last few miles of hills at a great speed.

I think the AP of my run was somewhere around 7:40.  I love it when I do that.

Nice TM miles, I can't get to 10 very often on that machine. Saw your comment on Burt's blog. He told me how to post pictures, not sure why he won't tell you, I guess he has gotten cranky. But you can't post it off the computer, you have to put it on a web site like Photobucket so that it has a URL. Then you click on that landscape icon that shows above the data entry box when you are doing an entry, paste in the URL and the picture appears wherever your cursor is blinking. Don't ask me how to control the size, though. Sometimes they come out huge and other times tiny.

I really liked this workout today. 10k with a 1 mile warm up and 1 mile cool down.  The base has a definite 5k route they use for all of the base 5ks.  Might as well use this course because I know it very well.  Ran it reverse the second time.  My goal was to hit each 5k somewhere between 21-23 minutes.  This workout made me a little nervous to see what I can do.

1.2 miles of warm up

5k- 22:24

Drink

5k- 21:37!!

Drink and cool down home.

I can't lie and say I didn't stop, because I did and I stopped my watch.  The stops were not longer than 10 seconds, so I thought it was ok.  I have a great Thursday speed work out!  It was hard but my body felt really good doing this.  Gave me a boost of confidence to run 6 miles around 7 AP.  I also found out that I like the reverse of the 5k route better than the way they always put it on.

Brrrr, cold front and it was really cold out, so I went to the TM.  1 mile warm up and, 6 mile repeats and 1 mile cool down.  So I started my mile repeats at 8.0 amd went up every mile.  This was difficult for me and I wanted to run faster but it was a no go.

Came home and did T25 stretch before Naomi woke up.

I started my run outside and I thought I was going to be fine and dandy running in my shorts.  After 2 miles, I ended up thawing out on the TM.  I found a BUNCH of insurance documents out in front of the clinic.  Maybe I was suppose to run there to save someones identity?  Reminded of the time I found someone's full on SS card.  Weird place.

6.15 miles total.  Baby kept me awake all night.  David is sick so I didn't have to go at 5 in the morning to the gym.  Sad he's sick, but he saved me a little.

20 miles I was not planning to do!

4 miles of warming up...

4 miles of base hills- felt easy

Went to the TM and did a Boston hill simulation run.  This workout was to simulate the Newton Hills.  I found it on the internet and maybe I need to search more, but I thought it was relatively comaprable.

.50 @ 1%

HILL 4 (HBH)- .50 miles @ 4-4.5%

This is a total of 5 miles, I repeated the hill workout twice.

All of the recovery miles I sped the TM up to 7.5 and the hills were at 7.0.  My legs were tired by the end.

Cool down home.

If anyone has advice how to do a TM Boston simulated run, please let me know.  It's pretty flat where I live.  I just can't go run 10 miles up and down a canyon. I need to know how it feels to fatigue my legs with downhill and turning them over and go up hills.

The run was 7:53 AP and it felt slow. It's nice when "slow" pace is sub 8.  I probably should be going slower but I just get bored out there everyday by myself.

It's always nice to find out that your camp site is right next to the race start line when you wake up in the morning.  We parked the trailer in the dark and had no idea where we were.  In the morning we looked over and the race start was across the way.  David and I decided on the half even though I didn't mention to him that it was a trail race.   We were also meeting up with some friends from Abiliene that we met in pilot training.

Really low-key race.  There was a 50k, marathon, 1/2 marathon and 10k.  The course was pretty forgiving comparing it to other West Texas races.  I have wanted to do this trail race for a long time and the timing was on because we had David's parents in town to watch Naomi and they had their gigantic trailer in tow.  My goal was to set the course record 1:41 I believe.  You just can't gauge a trail race until you start going.

Race started and I easily put myself in the front of all the ladies and I knew there was a good chance I would take this race. I paced myself between two men for the first two miles and then I was off at three miles.  There was a really big hill that I had to slow down to about walking pace around mile 3.5.  There weren't too many technical aspects to the race.  The trail did a lot of weaving and it had some rocky spots.  Tons of cacti throughout.  There were times I thought if I tripped I would surely end up in a cactus of some sort.

I didn't trip and I didn't get the course record.  It was pretty dang challenging.  My prize... A box of Girl Scout Cookies.  I was pretty darn dissapointed in the prizes.  The guy won the 1/2 with a 1:20 and a course record, pretty dang fast for a box of cookies.  I was happy we did the race, I think David didn't enjoy it as much as I did, he was 3rd with a 1:36.

Cool race, would I do it again? No.

Found out that I have the course record now for the females. hahaha

This was one of those once in a lifetime runs and it was pretty cool.  It was pouring rain out and David and I went to mark the 5k/10k routes for the Devil Dash he is putting on next weekend.  We ran down to the squadron and got the marking wheel but we decided to skip the wheel and go off of our GPS.

Cool thing about this run is we had permission to go out on the runway and mark the course.  We couldn't use any paint or anything to mark the course because of the rules but we mentally took note at all of the mile markers.  We thought for sure Security Forces would stop of us, but they didn't say anything.  The runway is super windy and the rain was coming toward us pretty hard.  We were stopped by some maintanence workers wondering what the heck we were doing out there.  They asked if we were lost.  Nah, just marking a course.

We ran the 10k route and then the 5k,  both on different runways so it's pretty cool.  The 10k route just seemed like it took forever.  We took note of all of the mile marks and it will be a great race.  David is a major stress man because of all the stuff he is doing for the Devil Dash.  We are trying to donate money for the Air Warrior Courage Foundation, so far he has done well.

By the time we were done, we went back home and I had around 12 miles.  Everything was completely soaked, including my shoes.  Changed my entire outfit and the weather had cleared for my last 6 miles.  Last 6 were all sub eight.  8:05 AP.  Good?  Bad?  I have no clue at this point.  Didn't really do a long tempo run this training cycle, guess I could fit one in later?  Still have a 20-22 miler planned.

Kam, I just have to no think about it anymore. It's super sad to run that long by yourself, especially out in the West Texas Desert. Sometimes I feel I am lost and just a strange strange running lady. I run on the highway sometimes because there aren't good city streets. Something is clearly wrong with a person running out in the middle of nowhere on the highway.

Finally a run that felt comfortable and enjoyable!  The goal was to maintain an 8:30 pace or SLOWER.  Recovery day please.  My brain listened and I ended exactly with an 8:30 AP.  Texas weather has been absolutely perfect and beautiful lately, just a big fat tease before the summer, and then it's all a memory.

Tomorrow is the Devil Dash 10k that David is in charge of.  They really have almost raised 10k for the 10k!!!! So amazing to see people come together for a good cause.  Every day I notice more and more how GOOD people are in this world.  There have to be FAR more good people than bad people.  Who knows?

I am saving my big solo 20-22 for Monday.  I hate messing mileage weeks up but hey, it's for a good cause and I need to help the hubby out with the race tomorrow as much as I can.  He basically has an army of volunteers, so I maybe will have time to run 20 miles after all.

Big day at the Sondrup house.  David came home at 11 last night after marking the course for the Devil Dash.  He had also been at packet pickup all day giving out bibs, shirts and registering people.  When he got home he told me that he didn't have any music for the event, so we stayed up until 12:30 creating a playlist.  David woke up at 5 and headed down to set up the race.

Naomi got up at 7 and grandma and grandpa were here at 7:30 and I went to help with registration.  Registration was running smoothly so I went and ran 2.5 miles.  Got back and baby and G and G arrived.  They started the event and raised over $13,000 for the Air Warrior Courage Foundation.  As the Star Spangled Banner played, I looked around to see about 200 runners out supporting a great cause.  My heart was full for my husband.  There are so many good people in this world, running does bring that out.

I knew I wouldn't win the race because fast Rachel showed up.  She is about David's speed, so really there is no chance. wanted in the 42s... The first mile and a half I planted myself behind two different guys and drafted.  The winds are pretty fierce on the flight line, even if it's not a windy day.  My pace felt slow, I love doing that. :)  I don't know if they knew what I was doing, but it worked!

Every 1,000 ft of the runway is marked with descending numbers.  I just counted down to myself and kept going.  We turned and headed East into the wind again and I was just feeling like crap by mile 4.  I don't know, but this race was not easy at all to me, I felt like I was working pretty darn hard to maintain around a 7 ap.  Ran along the fleet where all of the planes are parked and that was pretty cool.  We finally got off the runway with a mile and half to go.  Surprisingly, the road felt more comfortable and faster as I was heading uphill.  Long uphill stretch to mile 6, turned the corner and got a little downhill into the finish line.  43:50, I wasn't excited at all about that one, but I'll take it.

Naomi and G and G still hadn't finished the 5k, so I went back to get them.  They were .60 from the finish and just walking along.  Pretty cool to see grandparents doing that.  I was excited to see Naomi and she gave me a big smile.I walked and ran with them to the finish area.  Beautiful day and really fun event!

20 miler down and out.  Proud of this one.  7:54 AP.  I ran out the West gate and into Del Rio.  Stopped at McDonald's for a drink and bathroom stop.  A guy saw me on the road and he told me good running and I was going a long way.  Lots of horn honks and waves, kind of funny.

Ran East toward the Main Gate.  This was into the wind, but it dried all of the sweat off of me, so it was ok.  Took the loop back to the West Gate,  18.65 when I got back to the base.  Stopped at the gym for a quick drink.  Finished off with a 7:20 mile.  Walked off a half mile back to the trailer.

My fuel belt bugs me.  All of the water bottles were foaming and tasted soapy so I had to dump the water early on.  Re-filled the water bottles at McDonald's.  Took 2 Gus and 4 salt tablets along the way.

This was a funny run.  I wanted 10 miles at 7:30 AP.  Why have I not taken advantage of my wicked fast husband before?  We warmed up, and he made me do strange warm up routine things after a mile.  Tin soldiers, strides, butt kicks, high knees.

We started the run and it was in the windy wind and pretty cold.  The first mile was not a 7:30.  Then we stopped and talked to some people while we watched an Easter parade that had maybe 10 kids following a fire truck.  I made David take a picture for my brother for later laughs.

We started running more, still into the wind.  I had my music now, so I was able to hit the paces better.  I was just going crazy with my pace being everywhere and I tried to calm down, but I couldn't.  David was thinking I was pretty strange.

7:53, 7:41, 7:13, 7:23, 7:19, 7:20, 7:31, 7:26, 6:55 yup... The pace was everywhere but I finished with 7:30 AP for ten miles. hahaha

Watched David at the BAA 5k.  It was an amazing experience to spectate.  He finished #66 @ 17:08!  He was so fast and he was really up there with some fast people.  Great finish time for him.

I was planning to run today but since we are averaging 6-8 walking miles every day we have been in Boston, I opted out.

Ran a race pushing a stroller 12 days after Boston.  Hurt.  David won and I won.  It's always entertaining when the lady with the stroller passes you.  It's more entertaining when that lady wins the race.  We have a collection of running peppers from the town's runner series.  I am going to miss racing in Dirty Del when we leave next year.  :(

Are yall going to get a free ride to the AF marathon? I remember they did a c-130 out of Dyess one year for people... I guess there's nothing big at Laughlin but maybe from Lackland..?

Joe-

I keep telling my hubby about it, but he won't listen to me. So you have done the AF Marathon? How was it?

From SlowJoe on Mon, Jun 29, 2015 at 19:22:51 from 45.18.50.53

I never did it - but I heard good things. I think I was always scared it would be hot since it was September, but you are a hardened west Texas runner now, so no worries.

From Bec on Wed, Jul 01, 2015 at 06:53:46 from 70.115.197.197

Oh Joe, I'm still scared of the heat. You were a B1 guy, right? Did you know Moschella? He is our squadron commander, super cool guy.

From SlowJoe on Wed, Jul 01, 2015 at 06:58:02 from 12.182.148.249

Oh wow, he's a commander now - that's cool. I flew several combat missions with Leche (if that's still what he goes by) back in '07 with 9EBS. He was a captain back then, I think....dang I'm old!

From Bec on Fri, Jul 03, 2015 at 12:51:58 from 70.115.197.197

Yup, we still call him Leche. :) The Air Force is one small world. What was your call sign? I will mention you to him. Eliason was also David's ROTC commander. He was a good guy too.

PR!

I was planning to pace the half marathon but decided to race the 10k instead. Got to Research Park and only had time to run amile with a bathroom stop in the bushes by Huntsman.

lined up near the front because I didn't want to trip on all of the people on the narrow turns.

We were off at 6:05 and kept I tried to keep my cool . Goal was to PR and break 42 min.

Gun went and we were off! Pretty sure the first mIle felt like I was falling off the face of the earth. So steep and so fun! Watched stroller daddies pushing strollers full of three kids each minting a 6 mm. Wow

Splits:

1- 6:05 ummmm?? Ok.

2- 6:15 still way toooo fast

3- 6:46 now slow...

4- 6:45 longest road ever and still slow

5- 6:50 just end this thing!

6- 7:26 please, end thus thing, just go!

7- 7;29 ok, over

It hurt at the end and I just kept going. I was proud of my PR. Not the best race but I will take it.

Ran back up to Rachel that was pacing 145 of the half. People were telling me I was going the wrong way. It was fun to watch all of the parade crazies. Great day.

The most important piece of this workout is hitting that 1 mile at the end...which you nailed! The 800's are really just there to fatigue you.:)

Your doing great!

Thank you sooooo much Rachelle. I literally wanted to die on the side of the track on the 5th one. The mile seemed easy compared to the 800s. It was also a hot Texas morning.

We planned to run with naomi for 5 and then drop her off with a sitter. She woke up around 5 so I was happy I didn't have to wake her up.

2 miles to warm up, dropped off Naomi to the babysitter.

Got to the 5k and wondered how crazy this event would be because it was a random race put together by random base leadership.  They wanted us to start running at 7:35 and stop at approximately 7:46 (during the race) for a moment of silence to remember 9/11.

Started out and the course went down hill, I was moving quickly out, but I knew there wouldn't be much downhill to have anyway.  We headed out toward the poop pond.  Stopped for the minute of silence.  It was interesting because I looked behind me at about 100 runners stopped.  It was silent and I watched a T-6 fly across the sky.  It was one of the cooler races I have done.  I thought this idea was going to be a fail, but it was a win, it was pretty cool.  After a minute (I stopped my watch), we were off again.

Ran down a small hill and turned around.  Two men passed me, I was pissed (not really).  Then we ran past the BX and had to go up another huge hill, down and around, back up another hill.  I was DYING by 2.75 and I just wanted to cry.  It was SUPER humid and I just wanted to cry.  Kept going and I did stop my watch at 3.10, because I wanted an official 5k time trial.  Ran in and I was 4th overall. (Yes, I passed the two men back!)  David won (of course) with a 17:11.  I was happy for him.  I thought that for sure I would have been closer to 20.  For the life of me, I struggle badly with 5ks.  I want sub 20 so bad!  Oh well.

Cool down and run back to get Naomi.  I had to completely change because I was soaking.  I did wringe the sweat out of my shirt when we got home, at least a cup of sweat came out of my clothes.  Maybe I should measure that.  Haha.  5 miles after the 5k to make it 10.  Last long run.

That is really cool and kind of gave me chills. I'm really glad you guys found a race so you didn't have to do it one your own. Congratulations! I think your time is great and I for sure wouldn't overthink it. It's REALLY hard to race a 5k when your training is geared towards a marathon. You are ready!

How about that David?!? Sheesh

From David on Fri, Sep 11, 2015 at 22:21:25 from 70.115.197.197

I agree fully with Rachelle. We haven't been training for the 5k so it's not something to read too much into. You did great on a tough course in humid conditions. If anything, remember how well you've done in your training (tempo runs). Those are the indicators. Not a 5k. You'll do great. Love you.

Nice race, I can't break 20 either, for me it may never happen. Cool jet story. I remember shortly after 9/11, after commercial flights had started back up, looking up in the sky and seeing a vapor trail in the shape of a u-turn. I thought something was surely about to happen, but nothing ever came of it. But always good to remember.

Driving out to San Antonio on the way to the airport, we got a flat.  That was after we were sprayed by a gravel truck, which destroyed our windshield.  Nothing like that to get our trip started.  We got to the airport shuttle just in time.

It takes 3 hours to drive to the airport, it sucks.  Our flight was 5 hours including a layover.  Then add an hour and a half layover, sprinkle that with a side of Naomi and you have a VERY long day.  Traveling with a toddler a few days before a marathon burns a level of glycogen, due to the level of stress.  Luckily we were staying at our friends' parents home, which made for a comfortable stay.

There were 4 others traveling from Del Rio to run the half marathon.  It was exciting for them, because it was their first half marathon.  Total, there were 13 runners in our party that were taking part in the weekend running events.  It was a Par TAy.  Luckily, the drinking didn't commence until after the race.

EXPO day was an expo with all of the same usual crap.  I loved seeing all of the Air Force memorabilia. David picked up his racing uniform for the MAJCOM challenge.  The shorts looked like they were 5 sizes too short.  I made him wear spandex under them.  I basically threatened him with our marriage if he didn't.  I think the spandex saved him in the long run.

My friend Brittany's mom made us a carbo loading feast the night before.  Like, I don't even see that much food at a Mormon function!  Pasta on pasta with cheese and sauce and meat and pie and cake and beer.  It was much more than we could have bargained for.  I made myself go easy on it or else I would have no control over my bathroom stops along the course.

Race morning.  4:15 am rolls around and Naomi wakes up screaming (of course).  I wasn't sleeping anyway, so I tried to calm her so the rest of the running house wouldn't wake from the beast creature.  She was just making sure her parents weren't sleeping in on race morning.  We had sat all of running wardrobe out the night before, so we just had to slip in our running clothes and slither out the door.

It was WARM out.  A humid warm.  Not a Texas humid warm, but warm enough to forgo the cover up clothing.  That is always a bad sign in my book.  Plus, I was majorly sleepy.  Got to the race start (20 min away) and parked the car in a large grassy field.  I could feel allergies starting to set in because of everyone rolling around in the grass.  Then we got the privilege of walking a million miles to the start line.  I felt like a zombie.

No line for the portas, so we went.  Then we went over to the majcom challenge tent.  It was pretty lame, so we left to go get back in line for the portas.  Went again.  Started to make our way to the start.  It was nice because it was not overly crowded at all.  The start area was very spaced out and I was able to find my pacer easily.  I wanted 3:20, there wasn't a a 3:20 pacer, so I decided to run with 3:25.

There was a flyover and it was the U2.  Easily, the BEST pre-marathon start EVER!  The colors were presented and the crowd grew silent very quickly.  All I heard was a pacer near me talking to a group of runners.  He had his back turned, so he didn't see that they were presenting the flag.  He was embarrassed when someone finally told him what was going on.  National anthem was sung beautifully.  Then the U2 flew very low and it was really just a beautiful plane.  So cool because they never fly that low.  Then they hit it and climbed straight back up.  It gave me the chills and I got a little teary.  Then it was time to start.

Got going and 3:15 was where it was for me.  I had my race paced out on my smart race band created by Andy.  I was going off of his splits for the most part.  The 3:15 pacer kept just being by me, so I just decided to run with the group (only men).  I only could see one female in front of me (the entire race), and I passed her at mile 8.  No females passed me the ENTIRE race, super confidence booster.

Splits:  I can honestly only remember a few vivid parts of this race.  I was really looking at the ground or concentrating so hard to keep going.  I really did not look around much.

7. 7: 19

8. 7:35 (I saw David on this part, it was an out and back portion in a little town.  There were a lot of people out cheering for the marathoners)

9. 7:28 (started feeling really good)

10. 7:20

11. 7:21

12. 7:11 (Knew I needed to back off from the 3:15 pacer, he was going way too fast! )

13. 7:27 hit the half at about 1:37:xx.  I knew that I was ahead of pace, but not by much.  Didn't feel THAT good.

14. 7:35 My goal was to listen to my playlist until mile 20 without stopping.  My music held me together this race.

15. 7:53 Turned and headed back toward the start and it was extremely windy.  I watched 3:15 fade into the distance, I was ok with that.

This was the aid station that served us literally, on silver platters.   They were dressed in white shirts and ties.  It was rather darling and I hope that aid station wins the competition they were doing.

16. 7:52 Knew it wasn't there.  It was windy, hot and humid.  My shirt was soaking wet and I was really hot.  Thirsty at EVERY aid station,  Stations were about 1.5 miles apart.

Caught up to a man to run behind and block the wind.  He was NOT happy with me.  Stopped so I would go around him.  I looked back and his nipples were bleeding.  Yeah, I'll leave him alone.

17. 7:51

18. 8:21

19. 7:57 Almost to 20... This 14-20 was horribly boring.  Nothing to look at, just like running at home.

20. 7:51 Ran around a random out n back that was not necessary for this poorly marked marathon.  Took all I had in me to run around a stupid cone.

21. 7:51  Met up with the half marathon.  Parade of people that looked much worse than I did.  The half started 1 hour after the marathon.

22. 8:43  This was an overpass we had to run up.  Kill me.  And then I tripped on the grating.  I let out a scream and a swear word.

23. 8:26 hills

24. 8:57  Just annoyed.  Esp when the 3:25 pacer passed me and was telling me to keep up with him.  I just wanted to yell at him

Hill and then flat here

25. 7:53

26. 8:02

.4. 7:13 I knew that if I wanted under 3:25, I would have to push really hard for it the last half mile.  We passed the finish line at this point and had to go all the way around a runway.  I was ready to push the half marathoners at this point because they were all over the place.

I saw my friend Matt in the crowd and that gave me the final straw to push.  Ten seconds to spare... And then I collapsed.  It was the strangest thing.  My legs just gave out and I fell down.  It felt so good to stop running.  I sat there for about 30 seconds before a girl came and picked me up.  And then a Colonel came.  They helped me stand up, I was fine.  They still took me to the med tent.  I collected my medal first.

I went to the med tent and David followed me in.  I asked him his time and he was so upset.  3:11.  He had a sub 2:50 in him, it was NOT his day.  I felt so bad for him.  He just lost all hope and even walked a few times, which is not what he does.

I chugged a water bottle down and left.  Passed all the food that looked gross at the time and just wanted to leave.  We found our group waiting for us.  Everyone that did the half seemed very happy.  Little Naomi was sleeping and she seemed fine.  We all left right as it really started to rain.  I knew the humidity was there, it followed us from Texas!

Walked, and a year later got to our car.  Started driving and we got ANOTHER flat tire.  Of course it was raining and David was in his skimpy running attire, he tried to fix the flat.  It was rusted on to the rim, so we had to wait and wait for our friends.  Why oh why did we not pull over next to a bakery?  I just wanted a cookie or something.

In the pouring rain, they fixed the tire.  I sat in the car and felt bad for my husband that had some kind of bad luck upon him.

Got back and it was sunny and beautiful out.  :)  Everyone sat around in pain and talked of the race and it's many adventures.  I got to answer questions about why digestive systems do strange things on race day.  Oh the joys of being with newbies.  One of our friends even ate bacon and drank beer during his half.  He was pretty pleased that he could accomplish so much out on a race course.

**** Couple of things I want to remember for the future.

*I took a SaltStick EVERY 30 minutes.  I know these saved me because early on I felt a leg cramp that completely went away.

*Caffeine is my friend on race day.  Give me the Roctaine, give me the mocha mocha GU, Give me the Salt Stick with caffeine.  I probably should have only been taking caffeine SS.

*Don't gorge yourself with pasta the night before.  I did most of my really good carbo loading 2 days prior with lots of water.  Gives it some time to digest.

*Don't race the Air Force Marathon again.  Jk, I think I would do it again.  I think a 22 miler needs to be in the mix of my long runs.  More tempo miles stuck on the end of long runs.  This course is definitely more difficult in the end.  You can feel the slight net downhill the first of the race.  When you turn the corner up to mile 14, everything hits you in the face.  Slight uphill and wind.

*French braids were the ticket.  I loved my hair and it was perfectly manageable later, no tangles.

*If traveling to a race, two days prior is great.  Boston we got there really early.  I was completely exhausted by the time I actually got to run.  Do all sight seeing afterward.

BIG shout out to the one and only RACHELLE WARDLE.  She was David and I's running coach for this marathon.  I have honestly never felt more prepared for a marathon.  Give me a downhill course and I would have won (yeah right).  But I really felt great going into race day and I executed so many difficult workouts along the way.  Plus it was majorly cool saying I had a coach.  Cross my fingers that she will work with me again!

Hey, great report Bec. Congrats on gutting it out for the sub-3:25 - that's tough to do when you're not having your best race. When conditions aren't just right for a marathon, things can really spiral down quickly. Not to mention the difficulties you had enroute...remind me never to get into a car with you two.

What's with bloody nipples guy, it's not like he was competing for the win...

Super windy out. Pushed naomi in stroller, so that was a nice wind dragger. Out of the 15 people that showed up, two brought dogs. In the first tenth of a mile some spring chicken with a dog had to stop and pick up the dog poop that his dog slipped out. I was glad I didn't run over it with the stroller. Smelled like poop for a mile.

Winner girl passed me 1 mile in and then another chick once I hit the wind tunnel. This race sucked like normal.

Waited for the awards and they gave out hams. New idiots were in charge of the event so they gave two hams per age group. Age group I were mixed male and female. David was pretty upset because none of the women were recognized and they raffled remaining hams, which went to two men. He complained and they told him they would take his opinion into consideration for the next event. Hahaha. Once again, Del Rio a it's finest. I wonder if we will live anywhere that will put on trust worthy races.

Race: New year's revolution run (26.4 Miles) 03:58:00
Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance

Olympic oval Revolution Run is one of my favorite runs for some odd reason. 5 hours of running on an indoor track. Come and go as you please, run as far or as short as you would like. My goal was to run a marathon distance to make it my 30th marathon.

We got there an hour early and sat and waited. Started right at 8 and the first 2 hours went by very slowly. Ran with David the entire time and Rachel here and there. This run is interesting because you watch the fast runners pass and pass the slower runners.

Usually I never fuel well on this run. They just have one fully stoked aid station and you can grab stuff as needed. We had a GU every your and salt stick every half hour. I also pooped two ibuprofen . I felt really well the last half. At ten laps to go, our goal was to push the speed and not stop anymore.

Overall, I just enjoy this race because you just run and you don't really think about speed or mileage. You also feel well since it's completely flat and the air is held at 60 degrees and extremely dry.

How do you know you pooped 2 ibuprofen? That's gross.

Pooped! Haha. Just checking to see if people actually read my posts. No wonder why I felt great at the end.

Rachel-i don't think I could go all 5 hours for this run!
