I ran out past Mini GU and then back to the house via canal road, I felt okay for the most part, my lungs were still feeling the effects of the cold that I have had over the last week or so but other than that it was a good run. I need to get back into the swing of things now that the Holidays are over, no more excuses. My average pace was 8:53 with a total time of 54:22.

I ran the Payson park loop after work and it was good enough to run in shorts, I felt pretty good, I'm still fighting this darn cold and my cough but it seems to be getting better, the air quality doesn't help. My average pace was 8:53 with a total time of 55:25, it was a good start to the week, I would have ran this morning but I had to take my mom to the doctor so it kinda screwed up my plans. But all is good.

I ran out past Mini GU corner and then back to the house, I ran after work today again as I slept right through my alarm this morning, I don't know what happened there but I must be getting old! I felt okay but the last mile was a little labored, but all in all it was a good run and I'm glad that I was able to fit it in today. Two days in a row baby, I'm on a roll, my average pace was 8:46 with a total time of 53:09, I was able to run in shorts again so that was nice. That is one good thing about the afternoon runs is sometimes it a lot warmer.

I ran out to mini gu corner and then back to the house via canal road after work... I felt okay but not great. Average pace was 8:56 with a total time of 54:15, lighter day tomorrow, maybe. I might just go the full amount. I'll see how I'm feeling.

I got off work early today and decided to run the Payson Park Loop and extend down to the park, I felt good lung wise but my poor legs were shot from the get go, very tired with no zip. I'm okay with that as today was about covering the distance and not speed. My average pace was 9:12 with a total time of 1:06:04, on a good day I would run this route in under 60 minutes but I need to build up to that and I know I'll get there. Very happy with this week so far and tomorrow will be another easy run and just get in 6 miles minimum maybe more, it will depend on how my legs feel.

I ran out to Mini GU Corner and then back to the house via canal road, I felt a little choppy on the way out but then on the way back I started to get into a pretty good rhythm... As I got back to the house I was feeling pretty good so I tacked on another mile and it was my fastest mile of the day, I felt like I could have gone more but I didn't want to over do it as I have ran 30 plus miles this week. So a good end to the week, my average pace was 8:57 with a total time of 1:03:38. Not real fast but I know as I increase my mileage the pace will start to come down, and as I lose the weight hopefully that will help as well. My weight before I left running was 174 pounds so I have lost 6 pounds over the last 3 weeks so that's good.

I decided to stay inside today as it was raining like crazy and I wasn't in the mood to get wet, so I did 30 Minutes on the elliptical and then I ran for 30 minutes on the treadmill and I went 3.4 miles in 30 minutes. I had a couple 200 pickups at an 8 minute pace but other than that I kept it just under a 9 minute pace the whole way. I finished up with some push-ups and a little stretching, it was a great workout and I'm glad I was able to get it done.

I ran out to Mini Gu Corner and back to the house via canal road, my legs were pretty tired and not very zippy... On the way home a nice black lab started following me and ended up escorting me home, I was able to get a number from his tag and call the owner so they could come and pick him up. My pace was slow but I stopped for a minute and I forgot to turn off my watch so my pace and time were a little messed up, it had me at a 9:23 pace with a total time of 57:12. Most of my miles were sub 9:00 except for one so it was a little messed up. I have some pain on the back side of my leg were my knee bends, it loosened up after a little bit but I hope this doesn't become a problem, its pretty stiff and sore right now. I might need to ice for a bit...

I ran the Payson Park loop today but I didn't extend down into the Park, I didn't feel real great on the way out but on the way back on mile number 4 I was able to get into a pretty good rhythm and that mile was 7:54. I then just tried to slow down and keep my rhythm and enjoy the run, my average pace was 8:51 with a total time of 55:10, I have had a pretty good week so far so i am happy with that.

I ran after work today and ran out to Mini Gu and I felt pretty good again on the second half of the run, my average pace was 8:41 with a total time of 52:45.  I ran with a pretty heavy heart as I lost a good friend over night and it's been a pretty sad day... He was a great doctor and a great friend and he delivered both my kids, I remember what a comfort it was to have him as our doctor and will never forget all the great times golfing and hanging, they will be cherished memories for sure. Rest in Peace Jae Baxter and may all your drives be straight and true from here on out.

I ran out Past Mini Gu and then out to Gu Corner and I felt really good today for some reason, I had a 7:48 mile on mile number 5 and then my average pace was 8:28... I haven't beat the 8:30 guy for a while now and I didn't feel like I was working real hard at it either, so it was a great way to end the week. My goal is to add a mile each week to my long runs until I get to 11 or 12 miles and then just hold there for a while, I really want to pace myself and not over train and get injured again. Total time was 1:08:22.

I decided to do some hills today as I have not done any since being insured last year, I ran up to the mailboxes via Mount Loafer school and then I ran down Woodland Hills Drive to canal road and then back to the house. Once getting home I extended out about a half a mile and then back to the house. My average pace was 8:25 total time was 55:54, pretty darn good considering the first 3 miles are pretty much uphill and steep, I had a full mile on one of the downhills and that mile was 7:22, I wasn't really pushing it on that downhill section I just let the hill do the work. I felt really good on the uphill not to tired at all so that was a pleasant surprise, It was a great run and I feel like I am on the right track. I finished with some upper body weight training and then some push-ups.

I ran out to Gu Corner and then back to the house, I then tacked on a couple more out to the old barn on canal road. I average an 8:40 mile on the way out and then I was averaging an 8:30 mile on the way back, I felt pretty good and its my 3rd week of 30 plus miles per week. I will cut back a little bit next week, I will run every day but less miles. I want to be smart. My average pace was 8:37 with a total time of 1:27:07, I had a great week of training and it was a good run to end the week on, I'm actually starting to love running again.

I ran out past the old barn on canal road and then down Elk Ridge road and then I turned after hitting my mile two which was the bottom of the hill and then I turned and headed back the same way, a nice little mixture of flat and downhill and uphill. I didn't get home from work until after 5 but I headed out towards Mini Gu corner but stopped at the horse arena which is just short of a mile from Mini Gu. I was having problems with my watch so I reset it and headed back to the house. I had two miles that were in the MP range, 7:55, 8:00, my average pace for the run was 8:15 with a total time of 36:30. I felt pretty darn good again and I'm glad I was able to get out. It's amazing to me how when I have a bad day at work if I push myself out the door for a run it seems to make everything right. It doesn't solve the problem but it makes everything right at home, and that's what counts! That's why I love this sport and how when I have been injured in the past how tough it is to handle day to day problems with out it. I am so glad that I have the opportunity to run, I shall never take it for granted again.

I ran out to Mini Gu Corner via canal road, I ran into my Brother Curtis and ran with him for a while, it was good to run with him again. My stupid 920XT was malfunctioning again so my miile splits were all over the place. I will not use that watch again until they tell me they can work out the bugs, to frustrating.  My total time was 54:45 with an average pace of 8:33, I felt pretty good for the most part and it was such a beautiful day for February.

I took a couple of hours off this afternoon as I had a late appointment with a client at 5pm so I came home and got my run done early, I started out just after 2:30 or so and I ran out to Mini Gu Corner. When I first started out I thought it was going to be another death march but I ended up feeling pretty good, my average pace was 8:25 with a total time of 51:16. I had a MP mile on mile number 3 at 8:00 pace, I knew that was to fast so I tried to slow it down to more like an 8:30 pace, but my last mile was 8:16 so I must have accidentally speed up. It was sure a nice day 65 plus, pretty crazy but I'm not going to complain.

I was able to get out the door just after 8:30 am and I headed out to Gu Corner via canal road and then I came back the same way, I felt okay but it seems I'm fighting side aches for some reason... Today it hit me on mile 4 and then I fought it the rest of the way, it would just come and go so I don't know what's up with that. When I returned back to the house I ran out to the old barn on canal road and then back to the house to finish out the 10 plus miles. My average pace was 8:38 with a total time of 1:27:21, not a bad run but with that darn side ache I had to slow down a lot but I guess that's okay. I had a pretty good week of training again and I like the road I'm on, now if I can just stay healthy.

I ran out to Mini Gu Corner via canal road passed my Brother and then I turned to try and catch him and during that mile I did a 7:49 mile so I'm counting that as a MP mile, thanks brother for pulling me along. Stopped for a bit and talked to him and then I headed back to the house and just kept it easy, it was a little bit cooler today and I could feel it in my hands, but it was still nice for February. I ran the big Blue Mailbox route today, basically I ran out towards Payson to this big blue mailbox and then I head back past the stake center via canal road so it keeps me on the flat and I can just take it easy. My average pace was upbeat steady at 8:22 with a total time of 55:32, I felt good for the most part but my mind kept wondering about certain things in life that I have no control over... Like High school sports and all the damn politics that go with it, I will be glad when my 2 juniors are graduated and I don't have to deal with idiot coaches.

Today was a tough one, I was tired from the get go and I just didn't have it mentally. I did fell better about half way up Harry's Hill and then coming down Woodland Hills Drive but when I hit the flat and then canal road and it was a death march that last mile or so. I had a couple of MP miles in the middle on the downhill, well not quite MP but close enough. (8:10) (8:12) My average pace was 8:52 with a total time of 56:29, so it was a good hill workout but other than that it was just down right brutal, but I guess there will be days like these. I just need to enjoy the journey, and I am.

I ran out Past Mini Gu and then up to Gu Corner and then back to the house the same way all via canal road. After getting back to the house I tacked on a few more out past the old barn via canal road, I felt pretty good at times and then a little tired at times but I felt stronger at the end than at the start so thats a pretty good feeling.  My average pace was 8:28 with a total time of 1:25:41, mile 5 was a MP mile at 7:56 with a little downhill help, I didn't really push it at all so that was a good feeling as well. Its been another good week of training and I like the road I'm on.

Mile 2 was 8:00 and then mile 4 was 7:54, they felt really easy and comfortable. I was glad to get a run in finally this week I really hate missing Monday's but some days it can't be helped.

I ran to the base of Harry's hill and then ran to the top and then over to Woodland Hills drive, I ran down that to canal road and then back home. My goal was to push the up-hill and downhill to see where I'm at. I ran Harry's hill in a a 9 minute mile which is pushing it for me, it's a 12 percent grade or more, then I pushed the 2 downhill miles and those were 7:38, and 7:13. The first quick mile was a little up hill to but pretty good downhill the last little bit, the last one was mostly downhill and then when I got to the flat I slowed down, I just wanted to ran the downhill portions at a sub 7 minute pace and I was able to do that. The last mile was half downhill and half flat so that was a pretty good pace for me and I felt really good form wise and everything was just flowing really well. I'm pretty excited about my 10K in St George in a couple of weeks, I should be ready baring any set backs between now and then, It was a great workout and I'm really happy where I am at. My average pace 8:16 with a total time 52:42.

I'm  pretty okay with my time. Went out way to fast and then just hung on. I'll do a race report later.

Details.

Mile 1. 6:33 this mile was way to fast but I was just trying to get the legs moving and I didn't feel like I was over doing it much.

Mile 2 7:18 after the first mile I decided to pull this one back a bit but over compensated and I felt like it was to slow, there are a couple of small hills here but not that big of deal.

Mile 3 6:53 tried to push some on this mile because of mile 2, I still felt pretty good but knew at this point that I had gone out to fast.

Mile 4 7:15 I felt okay with this mile as it has some uphill in it, stayed with it pretty good.

Mile 5 7:27 I lost it on this one a little bit, mentally kind of zoned out, which cost me.

Mile 6 7:36  I'm still struggling here but trying to get the legs to move but its not happening.

.17   6:39 I still felt like I had a chance to get under 44 minutes so I picked it up here, but I missed figured the math and I should have picked up sooner, DANG!

I'm okay with this to some degree as I have improved over the last year where I thought I was getting slower, if I would have gone out a little more even then I would have probably had a better time... I think if I stay consistent and don't over train, which I have a tendency to do, then I have some good races ahead of me. I just have to get the mileage in and be a little more attentive when I am racing of my pace and have a little better strategy. It was a fun and I love doing this race every year.

I finally was able to get a run in this week! I went out to Mini Gu and then back to the house via canal road, felt pretty darn good and after a few miles I was able to get into a nice rhythm. My average pace was 8:21 with mile 4 around MP (8:00) with a total time of 50:42, it was nice to get out and it really helped clear my head.

It hasn't been a good week for training but I was able to get out today for a 10 miler, I ran out past Gu corner and down into the river bottoms. I felt pretty good on the way out but then on the way back it was a little tougher, miles 8 to 10 were like a death march, especially the last mile. I was thinking about going 12 miles but I listened to my body and stopped at 10.  I need to get back in to the training next week, the last two weeks I have gotten a little lazy, I need to start listening to my alarm and getting out in the mornings then I'm not trying to find time after work to get a run in. My average pace was 8:41 with a total time of 1:27:27, it was a beautiful morning weather wise and I'm glad I was able to get out.

I ran after work tonight, I have had a mild migraine today and I haven't' felt good at all but I was able to get home around 5 or so and I took some Tylenol and waited for a bit. I still didn't feel great so I just went for it, the first 3 miles were pretty rough but then on the way back I was able to get into a pretty good rhythm and I hit some MP miles on 4 and 5. I felt dizzy at times but I was able to get through it okay, my average pace was 8:36 with a total time of 53:31. It was sure a nice day out and it was hard not to enjoy the 70 degree temps!

Well, I finally was able to get a freaking run in this week. I've been down in Vegas all week with the wife and kids for spring break and I never even laced up my shoes for a run... lazy I know but it is what it is! I will give a race report later. I felt really good through 9 miles but then the wheels just came off, and I don't know why. I was on track to get a sub 1:40 but my legs just gave out on me, I was able to still take 3rd in my age which made me feel a little better about the effort. It's a great race and a great course and I will do it again.

Details. Here are my splits.

1. 7:18 down hill and I was just getting loose.

2. 7:22 I decided to back off on this one, not to much though.

3. 7:14 this is really downhill but stayed controlled and easy.

4. 7:32 More flat with some rollers still feeling pretty good.

5. 7:28 still feeling good and just trying to stay smooth.

6. 7:41 I stopped here to take some GU and then get a drink.

7. 7:47 didn't feel real great on this one but I am still in it mentally even though I slowed down a little.

8. 7:36 Recovered a little here and I felt like I was back in a good flow.

9. 8:01 The wheels just came off and I don't know why, really lost it here.

10. 8:04 I'm just trying to work my way through the feeling in my legs and trying to hang on.

11. 8:33 wheels really coming off here and I almost started to cry, I'm sure there was some cussing involved.

12. 9:04 Feeling like I was going to have top walk but I told myself to just keep the legs a moving, feeling really disappointed.

13. 8:22 decided to try and just give it all I had and this mile was about all I had.

.10 sprinted the last little  bit here and hit a 7:19.

I don't know what happened on miles 9 through 13 but it felt like I hit the wall, that has never happened to me before on a half marathon but I guess theres a first time for everything... I the course was more downhill hill those first 4 miles and I don't know if maybe that kinda zapped my legs, don't really know. I was pretty disappointed after I finished but then after the results I found out that I took 3rd in my age so that was a big boost, if I run it next year I will make sure and get some downhill training in and be better prepared. Now its time to cut back a little little and then in a month or so start getting ready for St. George, I need to stay healthy so I can get to the starting line.

I decided to go and try a run this morning, I felt okay but I still have some major soreness in my calves and my quads are still weak but the stiffness there is subsiding. I ran out past the stake center and towards Mini Gu and then back to the house all via canal road. I will run the rest of the week and the mileage will be dictated by how I am feeling. My average pace was 8:34 with a total time of 35:05, it was a beautiful morning.

I ran out towards Payson this morning, legs are still way tired from the half a week ago, pretty frustrating... Hopefully they will recover over the weekend. I will run again tomorrow but it will depend on the legs on how far I will go, it was sure another beautiful morning. I only had time this morning for a short run, I ran out towards Mini Gu corner and then back to the house all via canal road. My legs are still way tired from the Half a week ago, hopefully next week they will do better. My average pace was slow at 9:05 with a total time of 45:44, I had some major stomach issues on the way back and with about  mile to go it got pretty damn ruff but I was able to make it back to the house, Barley. Now its up to the temple for Mason and Amelia's Wedding, crazy day.

I ran the Payson Park Loop after work but I didn't extend down into the Park, it took about 3 miles before my legs felt like they were running. My average pace was 8:24 with a total time of 53:21, I was able to get into a pretty good rhythm on the way back. Its time to get back to being consistent again and see where I can take this this year. It was a great run and a beautiful day.

I got home from work around 4 and then planted some more flowers and then I headed out to Mini Gu Corner via canal road, I didn't feel real great on the way out but I felt a lot better on the way back to the house. My average pace 8:40 with a total time of 52:35, my last mile was an 8:00 mile so I am counting that as MP, it was a good way to power through the difficulty of the first half of the run. It will make mentally tough down the road, I was ready to pack it in after about a mile but I stayed with it.

I ran the Payson Park loop this morning and I went all the way to the park, my legs were pretty tired the whole way but I was able to get the run done.  It was probably the short turn around in runs from yesterday afternoon and then running this morning but I'm glad that I got her done so I don't have to try and work a run in later today. My average pace was 8:43 with a total time of 1:02:28, it was sure a perfect morning and its always a good time to run. I don't know when I will run tomorrow because I get to go and help with the Payson temple open house and my shift is from 7:30am to 11:30am, so I will probably run after that weather permitting...

I ran out to Mini GFu Corner this morning, I felt so good today and my legs were feeling strong for a change. On the way back I ran into Kent wing and we ran for a bit, my last mile was 7:58 and it flet really easy.  My average pace was 8:24 with a total time of 51:39, its for days like these that I run and theres not a better feeling than feeling like i do right now... Well maybe talking to Abby over skype this past weekend is better but this is a close second.

I ran the Payson Park Loop and extended down into the park, I didn't feel as good as yesterday but still okay. My average pace was 8:28 with a total time of 1:00:42, so not to bad, I just didn't feel as strong today as I did on yesterday but is all about the journey. It was a little breezy at times but other than that it was another beautiful morning and I'm so glad that I was able to get out there again.

I ran out past Mini Gu Corner via canal road and the stake center, it was a pretty ruff run and it was like a death march most of the way... I walked 9 holes of golf late last night at Hobble Creek so i guess that over did the old legs, but I think that's okay. My average pace was 9:06 with a total time of 55:11, not my best as of late but at least I was able to run and get it done for the day, it was another beautiful morning to boot!

I went and played 18 holes of golf this morning and walked the 18 holes and then when I returned home it seemed all right outside so I ran out to Mini Gu Corner via canal road, it wasn't to bad on the way out but on the way back it really started to rain. I decided to cut the run short because of the rain, my main goal was just to get a run in today. My average pace was 8:22 with a total time of 50:47, my last mile was 7:58 so I counted that as MP, I wasn't even trying to run that fast and the pace seemed easy. It must have been the rain and my mind was saying lets pick this up a little, I'm glad I decided to go out.

I ran down to the School to run my wife's girls and its just over a mile to the school, I ran a mile with them and then headed over to Elk Ridge drive and ran up that to canal road and then home. My mile down to the school was mostly downhill and I ran that mile in 7:56 so I'm counting that as MP, the rest of the run was kinda so, so. I felt okay going up Elk Ridge but I just didn't have the spring in my step that I have had as of late but that's okay it was still a good run. My average pace was 8:37 with a total time of 54:18, it was a good mixture of downhill and uphill so that was nice.

I ran the big blue mailbox route along canal road, it keeps me on canal road the whole time with no hills. I felt pretty good, my legs were a little tight from the hill workout on Wednesday but that's how it should be. I ran out past Mini Gu corner and then up to Gu corner and then back to the house, after returning to the house I ran a couple more out to the old barn and back on canal road. I felt okay but my legs were pretty wasted by the last mile, I walked 18 holes of golf and ran yesterday so I must be tired from all the activity, it was still a good run though. My average pace 8:38 with a total time of 1:27:15, I will probably keep it at 10 to 12 miles on my long runs through the end of June and then I'll start to bump them up after that. I ran into my Brother Curtis and my nephew Bryan, it was good to see them out.

I ran the Payson Park loop and extended down into the park, I felt pretty good so I decided to do some speed work today. So on the way back I did a progression run with so pickups as well. The progression run went like this, 7:56 I had some up hill and downhill in this mile, 7:32 same here some up and downhill,  7:49 this was the pickups, so I would pick out a telephone pole and run that length and then run easy the same length I did 3 sets of these. Last mile I just took it easy. My average pace was 8:08 with a total time of 58:25 which is one of the faster times on this route so I was happy about that, it was a good mix of speed I think and I was pretty proud of the effort.

Hill day today, I ran to the base of Harry's Hill I then ran to the top of that and then over to Woodland Hills Drive and then back down to canal road and then home. It was a good mixture of uphill and downhill and I felt pretty good on the uphill but not so good on the downhill, but I'll get there. My average pace was 8:26 with a total time of 53:51, I had 2 MP miles with the down hill at 7:41, 7:32. it was a beautiful morning.

I ran out to Gu corner and then back to the house, after getting back I ran the 2 mile loop out to the old barn and back.  First thing this morning I started running and I got to the Stake Center and I started to have stomach issues so I ran back home real quick and took care of business. I headed back out but my poor legs were just so tired this morning and it was like a death march the whole way. I must have ran to much yesterday and then I walked 18 holes of golf so I guess I'm to old to do that any more. I have to be smarter so I don't have these tough days like this, well at least not self inflicted anyway. My average pace was slow at 9:10 with a total time of 1:32:46, I'm still really proud of myself for gutting this one out, it was good for me mentally. I ran into my brother and we chatted a bit, he is ready for Utah Valley and he needs to really rock it!

I ran out Past Gu Corner and then down into the river bottoms and then back to the house the same way all via canal road. I felt okay going out but then on the way home with about a mile or so left I started to really get tired and the last mile was a death march. I think that had to do with the inactivity this last week and I hardly ate at all on the way home from Arizona yesterday and then you add in sitting in the darn car for 12 hours, just doesn't make for a really good feeling in the legs. My average pace was 8:48 with a total time of 1:28:57, it was not a great week of training mainly because of my laziness and I need to get going starting Monday and start getting ready for ST George.

I ran out past gu Corner and then down into the riverbottoms, camr back the same way to the house and then I did some 2 mile loops claoe to there where I had water and gatorade, I felt stronger the second half of the run which was a pleasent surprise. My last mile was at MP at 7:57, my average pace for the run was 8:38 with a total time of 2:10:23. It was a confidence builder run know doubt, and I am really proud of myself for not giving into my tired legs the first half. I was able to run the tired feeling out of them and then hammer the last half of the run with confidence.

I ran the Payson park loop this morning but I didn't extend down into the park I stayed on top. My legs were super tired at the first but felt a little better towards the end, my average pace was 9:06 with a total time of 56:32. It took my legs about 3 miles to loosen up to where they felt decent, not great but tolerable. I'm going to try and do Payson canyon tomorrow before I run the girls, but that will depend on how the old legs are feeling... I ran down to the high school and ran the girls, they are up to 1.30 miles they are really coming along nicely, and then I ran home via Elk Ridge drive which is a pretty good little up hill and then home on canal road. Drove up to My brother-in-laws at the top of woodland hills and then ran down to the mailboxes and then over to Mt Loafer road, down past the elementary school to canal road and then added on a couple more out to the Stake Center and then back to the house. There is some serious downhill in this run and it was hard on the old quads, but I need to start doing this to prepare for Payson canyon next month when I start running that. My average pace was 8:33 with a total time of 1:01:48. I really held back on the downhill and I hope as I get stronger I will be able to go faster, I did have an 8 minute mile on one of them so that is a MP mile. It was a good run,

I ran down to the high school and ran the girls, I did a lap around the track while I was waiting for them all to get there, after running them I ran home the same way, up 300 west to canal and then out past the stake center and then back to the house. I felt really good today and I'm glad that I listened to my body yesterday, I just didn't feel real great from Saturdays long run so I took the day off and it really helped. My average pace was 8:21 with a total time of 1:01:33, I had one MP mile and it was 7:39, felt really good on that one.

Woodland Hills downhill run this morning, the same route as last week but I went a little faster my legs felt way stronger today than last week so that is a good sign. I had 4 MP miles in the downhill sections and they were, 7:58, 7:53, 7:41, 7:54, my average pace for the run was 8:09 with a total time of 1:00:02. It was another good run and I like the road that I'm on, I hope I can keep it up and stay injury free this year.

I ran the Payson Park Loop this morning but I stopped short and I didn't extend down into the park all via canal road. I felt pretty good just a real nice steady run. After getting back to the house Sophie wanted to go a a mile so we ran out to the stake center and back, just nice and easy and we ended up going about 1.20 miles. I ran the Mini Gu Corner route today via canal road, I got out a little later in the morning and it was not a good decision I need to get up at the regular time cuz its just to hot for this old body. My average pace was 8:35 with a total time of 52:03, I ran into Pat Loss and he was out riding a bike it was good to see him.

Woodland Hills Downhill run this morning, same run as last week but I through in some uphill... When I got to Loafer Canyon Road I turned up the canyon until I hit park Drive which heads over into Elk ridge and then back down past Mt Loafer school to canal road and then home. It was a good mixture of downhill and uphill and I felt pretty good on the uphill too which was a pleasant surprise. I had some MP miles on the downhill and they were; 7:54, 7:56, 7:50, 7:46 My average pace was 8:19 with a total time of 1:03:54, it was another beautiful morning, I wish it would cool down just a bit though.

I ran the Payson Park Loop but I cut out the rollers, I wasn't feeling to good on the way out and then on the way back I got passed by my son Ethan's cross country coach, Jennifer Hughes so I just tried to keep a reasonable gap hoping it would motivate me... Bad idea, good idea? I was able to keep the gap the same and then with about a mile to go she slowed down just a little so I could catch her and she ran me in that last mile. It pretty much killed me but I'm glad I did it because I was able to turn a bad run into a good run and that is a good thing. I had MP miles of 7:56, 7:16, 7:33, my average pace was 8:20 with a total time of 51:57.  So it was a good run and it turned out totally differnet than I thought it would,  half way through I thought it was going to be one of those tough runs and it was tough but good at the same time.

Mini Gu Corner route this Morning all via canal road, I was pretty surprised how fast my legs bounced back after the hard hill run last night... My pace was easy and they fielt a little tired towards the end but overall pretty darn good, my average pace was 8:44 with a total time of 53:06. It was way cooler this morning and boy did it feel nice, it was a beautiful morning and I'm glad I was able to get out.

I was glad that I was able to get out this morning and I ran out past Gu corner and down into the river bottoms, I felt really strong the last half of this long run than I have on any of the previous ones that I have done.  Long runs are not my favorite part of training and I have to really find the motivation at times and today was one of those times to actually complete them... My average pace was 8:27 with a total time of 1:59:37, my pace was faster towards the end which is a really good sign, I feel like I am on the right track with my training.

I ran down to the high school and ran the girls 2 miles and before they were ready to go I did 4 laps around the track waiting for them to get ready. After that I ran back up to canal road and did a few more miles up there to get past the 8 miles. Speedy Spaniard 10K this morning,  It wasn't my best 10K but it wasn't my worst either. I felt okay through 3 miles or so and then I really started to fade and I just kinda hung in there, it was a new route this year and it was a good one. I felt pretty good leg wise but my breathing was way out of whack and I felt really labored for some reason. I have ran a sub 44 minutes in this race but I just didn't have it lung wise so I probably need to work on that a little more. My splits are below.

1. 7:13 a little uphill here and then down, pretty happy with this mile really.

2. 7:06 I felt really good here and I thought this was about where I should be pace wise.

3. 7:11 Still okay with the pace but stomach is bothering my a little here.

4. 7:23 Starting to fade bad here.

5. 7:30 still trying but fading some more.

6. 7:30 I tried to speed up here but I must not have as the pace was the same as the previous mile.

.20 6:42 I just tried to finish strong here and I think I did that.

The last half I just really seemed to fade, which surprises me as I thought I was in pretty decent 10K pace but I guess I'm not... I did finish 3rd in my age group, 50 to 54, so that was a welcome surprise i think I'm on the right track with everything I just have to stay with it, maybe try and get some more speed work when I can. But really not to bad, my average pace was 7:19.

First run of the week. My daughter Abby came home from her mission on Tuesday and I have been pretty busy trying to get her situated and the fact that I haven't seen her for 18 months we have been doing a lot of catching up. I have missed her so much and it is so good to have her home. I went down and ran the girls this morning an we ran the Salem Days 5K course and they all did so well! I am super proud of each one of these girls, they have come so far in the last couple of months that it just gives me goose bumps. After running them I tacked on another few miles on the way home, my average pace was 8:31 with a total time of 52:16. I probably won't get in much of a long run this week as I want to help some of the girls run the 5K on Saturday.

I got out this morning around 6:30 but it was an hour to late as it got pretty darn hot by the last few miles. I didn't feel bad the first 12 miles and I was averaging around 8:30 mile the whole way but the last 6 miles were kinda rough, I would contribute that to the hotter temps and I just didn't handle it very well. But, I was able to get it done and I didn't make any excuses. If I can get a few more of these in and then maybe a 20 miler I feel like I will be ready to go. Average pace was 8:37 with a total time of 2:36:41.

So I needed to get my long run in today as tomorrow I am pressed for time because Ethan has a soccer game in the morning so I ran out to the river bottoms and then back to the house. My legs felt okay going out but then on the way back they just went dead on me again and I slowed down to where I was running a 10:20 mile, this has really hampered my training this week as I just haven't been able to get my legs to cooperate. I don't know what is wrong but today was brutal, I had to stop about .3 from my home and rest my legs just to finish, it really is frustrating!!! I needed to get 14 in today but my legs could go no further so I thought about the elliptical so I jumped on there for 40 minutes to get the extra 4 miles and I was able to do it with out much problem. I should not be feeling this way and I'm not sure what to do, it just feels like I hit the wall, its that kind of feeling. I have been trying to drink more water just in case its from being dehydrated, but to no a vale. Oh well I'll just keep doing what they will let me. My average pace for the run was 9:11 with a total time of 1:32:25, I will still try and run tomorrow but it will just be a regular run.

I ran with the Boys, Spanish Fork Crew, and we ran up Loafer canyon to the gate. I felt really good on the uphill which I was worried about after last week and the way my legs were feeling, hopefully I am past that and they are back to feeling normal. I had a couple of MP miles on the way down at 8:00, 7:54, we didn't push the pace down which was a good thing and we took it pretty easy on the way up but my legs felt strong so I'm happy with that. My average pace was 9:18, this is a very steep canyon uphill, with a total time of 1:16:15. It was fun to run with the boys again and I look forward for more of this these last weeks of preparing for St. George.

I ran after work today as I slept in and had to get going but I ran out towards Payson Park but stopped short. On the way back I did 6 speed pickups and they were all in the 7 minute range and I just picked out a power pole or a street sign to run to and then had about the same distance in a recover time. I had to reset my watch because I forgot to start it on the way back and it was all screwed up but the miles that I had after the reset went like this: 7:50, 7:27, 7:54 Average pace on the last two were 7:45 and then the previous 4 miles were 8:30. It was a good workout and I'm glad I got a little speed in.

I ran with the Spanish Fork boys and girls From the Black hawk Camp Ground which is at the top of Payson canyon and then I ran back to my house. I was really nervous about this run, not from the stand point of the mileage just the extensive downhill along with the mileage, was my main concern but my legs handled it really well. This tells me that I'm on the right track and I just need to stay consistent these last 4 or 5 weeks, I want to get in a few more downhill runs and a few more uphill runs as well. I had  7 MP miles on mostly the downhill but i didn't push the downhill at all I just let the hill do the work  and I did that just because I didn't want to over do it. Those miles went like this: 7:58, 7:59, 7:53, 8:00, 7:46, 7:47, 7:53, my average pace for the run was 8:19 with a total time of 2:52:34. This was a big confidence boast and I am glad that I was able to do it, it gave a nice evaluation of where I am at.

I decided to try a run today, I took yesterday off as my legs were still pretty stiff and sore from the Payson canyon downhill 20 miler on Saturday. I ran out to mini Gu Corner and they seem like they are recovering nicely and I felt pretty good so I'm glad I was smart and took yesterday off. My pace wasn't to bad either at 8:39 with a total time of 52:30, the last mile I did a MP mile at 7:58 which was a nice surprise on stiff tired legs. The plan is to stay consistent the rest of the month and keep hammering out the miles, I'm in the home stretch now and I want to finish strong.

I ran out to Mini GU Corner again this morning, I ran a 3 mile warm up and then on the way back I did 9 Pick-ups and I tried to finish the last of each mile strong, each of the pick-ups were in the 7 minute range with a few in the 6:50 range so I was pushing it pretty good for me. The miles with the pick-ups went like this 7:44, 7:44, 7:43, I would have a recovery about the same as the repeat was sometimes a little less, I felt pretty good but the last couple miles I was getting a little tired. My average pace for the run was 8:13 with a total time of 49:54, it was a great run and a great workout.

I ran the Payson Park Loop and I went all the way to the park, I felt okay but towards the end my legs felt like they hit the wall again, I don't know why that is but it is what it is. I had an average pace of 8:23 with a total time of 1:00:08, When I got back I finished up with some push-ups. I wasn't able to run a Saturday because I had a migraine, I don't know why but I just could do it so i hope all goes well this week so I can get one more real long run this week.

I ran with the Spanish fork boys down Payson Canyon, I felt okay but not great but I was able to get it done and it was a good workout. It was really cold and I was glad that I had gloves and my long sleeve sleeves, it made for a comfortable run. Fall is coming for sure. I had 6 MP miles and my average pace was 7:53. they went like this, 8:00, 7:31, 7:20, 7:45, 7:44, 7:41,  total time for the run was 1:15:09.  It was a good time, I will probably do it one more time before the marathon, maybe next week and then call it good.

I will have to do my long run tomorrow as Ethan has his youth elk hunt on Saturday so I wont be able to run on that day. I ran up Loafer canyon Road to the gate and then back down the same way, I had 3 MP miles on the way down and they were, 7:46, 7:54, 7:36. It is extremely steep on the way up and then I was fighting a head wind to boot so it was a great work out, my average pace was 9:15 with a total time of 1:15:53. My legs felt pretty good on the uphill but the downhill they were a little wobbly, but I'm sure it was from to steep uphill but over all I felt pretty good.

I wanted to get in my long run today because I'm going hunting with Eathn tomorrow but I kept getting bothered with work so I had to cut my run short and head into work. I was able to get in 8 miles or so, my average pace was 8:30 with a total time of 1:11:59. I haven't had a real great month training wise so I don't know how that will affect the race in a couple of weeks but I guess we'll see. Plan is to be consistent these last few weeks and then cut back at the same time. Running everyday but less mileage and I hope with that my legs will recover and be ready...

I ran out towards Payson Park via canal road, I didn't extend all the way to the park but I wanted an upbeat run and I was able to accomplish that. I felt pretty good with an average pace of 8:11 and  total time of 50:59, the legs felt good. I will go light tomorrow, maybe 3 to 4 miles tops and then another 6 miler on Wednesday and then lite again until Saturday where I would like to do 10 Miles, then its easy from there until the race.

I ran up to the Mailboxes in Woodland Hills and then back to the house the same way, via Mount Loafer School,  its a good little uphill and downhill run. I pushed the uphill and just went relaxed on the downhill, I just let the downhill do the work. I felt pretty good both ways, my downhill miles were 7:25, 7:14 and I wasn't pushing hard at all it felt really smooth and comfortable, my average pace was 8:16 with a total time of 51:25...  Its time to start tapering down from here so on Saturday I will do 8 to 10 miles but Thursday I will do a lite run, maybe Friday.  Then next week I will run Monday and Tuesday and Thursday and that will be it, they will be really lite miles and easy easy.

I didn't have a good day today... I was right on course through my 30K to Boston Qualify but then my legs hit the wall and I was done. Disappointed but anytime you finish a marathon you should feel good about yourself. I felt like I was right in here but it I just didn't have it for some reason. I look back at my training and I got a little lazy the last 4 weeks and I didn't get in enough long runs I think, I had the 1 20 miler but then after that I didn't get anymore  other than a 15 and then a 10 miler and that was 5 weeks out, so I might have peeked a little soon. I don't know if I'm going to do anymore of these but I'm sure I will change my mind, I feel like I have it in me for a 3:30 marathon but then I think maybe I'm just to old... I will post splits tomorrow.

Mile Splits

1. 7:26 a little fast on this one but I was just trying to get loose and didn't realize I was going to fast.

2. 8:00 this was perfect pace and I was getting in a pretty good groove.

3. 7:36 a little fast again but wasn't working hard at all and some downhill on this mile.

4. 7:51 better and more relaxed.

5. 8:00 Feeling good.

.2  2:46 I was barley moving here but I was running, my wife said she could see that I was struggling because usually I'm really strong at the end. Not this year.

3:42:55...  Disappointed no doubt but I think the last month of training I was a little lazy with my long runs and that is the reason for the crash... Plus, life intruded with soccer games on Saturdays and it messed up my training schedule some, so no BQ this year and I missed a PR by a minute or so which I didn't care to much about because the BQ was what I wanted anything after that really didn't matter to me.  I don't know where I go from here if I continue to try or just stop doing marathons all together, I did sign up for the runners series again just to give me options and I'm running the Snow Canyon Half in November...  I did make it with no injuries this time so I think the formula I used worked for me but I have to be able to get more long runs in those last 2 months because those are critical for those last 8 miles of the marathon.

Taking some time of and get the stiffness out and then I will continue pursuing my goal of 1500 miles by the end of this year.

I decided to go out and try a run on my dead marathon legs, I ran out to Mini GU Corner and then back to the house via canal road. They were pretty ruff the first couple of miles but then they felt a little better in the middle and then not so good towards the end. They felt really good after a week of rest but they are still way tired, my average pace was 9:02 with a total time of 54:57. I have the Snow canyon half marathon in less than a month so I need to get back after it and I also want to stay on course to reach the 1500 miles for the year goal that I have set for myself. My goal is to have the 1500 mile goal by Christmas so I need to stay steady, hopefully my legs will let me do it.

I took off work around 12:30 and then went out for a run out to mini Gu again via canal road, my legs, mainly my butt are still having a hard time recovering from the marathon.... I don't have any pep back in them yet either but I'm sure that will come back as I continue to recover. My average pace was 8:56 with a total time of 54:07, after the run I jumped on the elliptical for 40 minutes to see if that would help loosen up the stiffness and get things going again, no resistance just riding the bike so to speak.... I don't have any stiffness when I'm walking around its just when I go to run. It was a good workout.

I ran out to Gu Corner via canal road, the wind was blowing 40 MPH plus, it was the toughest run that I have every had to do... My legs were dead and then the wind pounding in your face the whole way made for some super tough conditions. I was going to cut the run short because of the wind but when I got back to the house it was pretty tolerable so I tacked on a couple more miles around the house. My average pace was super slow at 9:17 with a total time of 1:33:57, I'm really proud of myself for not giving up on this run and just gutting it out.

I ran after work today and I was able to get out just after 5:30 and I ran out to Payson Park but I cut it short and didn't do the rollers. I have a migraine and it was pretty tough just getting through the run, I felt a little better on the inward half but it is pounding pretty good right now. My legs are still super tired and they have no zip but I was able to get through the run with all the setbacks, I had a negative split on the way in. Its been a week since I have ran, I decided to take a few days off as my legs are just still way tired from the marathon a month ago I wanted to see if they would start feeling better... No such luck! They are just so freaking tired and they feel like they did the last 6 miles of the marathon, like I'm hitting the wall. I'm running the snow canyon half on Saturday and I'll be lucky to run it under 2 hours... I was hoping to get under 1:40 with it being really fast and downhill but I might have to just try and finish at this point, I can't even keep my trianing pace under 9 minute miles right now. My average pace was slow at 9:06 with a total time of 56:51, I'm usually in the 52 minute range on this route so its really a struggle. I don't know what to think at this point, I guess just run through it and hope for the best.  I'm just glad to get a run in and I plan on running all week.

I don't know why this is but I've had the issue since the marathon, I must have some muscle weekness there. Should be an interesting Snow Canyon Half marathon on Saturday, no expectations really just enjoy the scenery and see how my legs do. So I was a little worried coming into this Half as my legs have never really recovered from the marathon a month ago and I just haven't felt real good running as of late. I felt pretty good the first miles and then right when my watch was turning over the first mile my darn calf just siezed up and I stopped for about 30 or 40 seconds, then I just said well you just have to do your best and run through it. I started running with the 1:40 pace group, they passed me by and then the 1:45 pace group passed me and I was like what to do... So I just started to run and it loosened up as I hit the downhill portions and I was able to catch the 1:45 group, as we dropped into snow canyon I just started to use the downhill and was feeling better, I didn't think I could catch the 1:40 group but I just stayed with it. Then after the 12th mile I turned to head for the home stretch and there was the 1:40 group and it gave me a burst of energy and I flew right by them with about .25 to go and I just sprinted to the finish. I really am proud of myself  that I stayed with it and ran smart on the downhill and didn't over do it and I was able to get the sub 1:40, just barley, but I got it. Considering how I have felt the last month I'll take it, legs felt pretty darn good the whole way. Splits are below.

My average pace was slow at 9:21 with a total time of 44:09, after the run I did some upper body weight training and then finished up with a few push-up, it was a great way to start the day.

I ran out to Mini Gu Corner via canal road and then back to the house on a very brisk morning, my legs felt marginal at best and I'm still having that soreness in the middle of each of my butt cheeks. My average pace was 8:54 with a total time of 54:05, I'm going to try and get a little more consistant with my daily running, I'm tired of being lazy.

I ran after work and I ran out to Payson and back via canal road, it was a nice temperature but as the sun went down it was a little nippy, still good for the end of November. I felt about like I have been feeling stiff at the start and then better towards the end, my average pace was 8:53 with a total time of 45:54. I will try to get a morning run tomorrow, the weather is suppose to be changing some so cooler weather is coming.

I ran out past Mini Gu Corner via canal road and then back to the house, it was a little windy but not to bad. I felt pretty much like I have been stiff at first and then fine in the middle and then tired towards the end. Pace was a little better today, average pace was 8:34 with a total time of 52:00, I think it was the calm before the storm.

I ran out past Mini Gu Corner again this morning, I didn't feel as good as I did on Wednesday, the old legs were slow and felt like concrete bricks! My average pace 9:11 with a total time of 55:39, I just didn't feel good at all but I was able to get her done.

I ran out to Mini Gu Corner again via canal road, this was for sure one of the worst runs that I have had as far as a 6 miler goes... Legs were so dead and I felt like I was hitting the wall the whole way, i don't know why this is happening. Maybe I'm not getting enough water who knows but it is mighty tough having to feel this way almost every time I run, it is no fun at all. My average pace was slow 9:20 with a total time of 56:39, yesterday was slow but today was 2 minutes slower so very hard to understand. My Hamstring is tight all the way up to my Butt, I just can't get it loosened up anytime during the run. Oh well, I guess I will just go with it and hopefully it will loosen up as I get more consistent.

I ran out past the stake center and out past the T and then back to the house via canal road, I felt a little better today in the leg department but I have been fighting a migraine the last 2 days, so it always something...  My average pace was 8:18 with a total time of 34:03, I seemed to have good rhythm for a change which has been non existent, it was sure a pretty day and I'm glad I was able to finally get out for the week.

I was finally able to get a run in again this week! I ran out to Mini Gu Corner and then back to the house via canal road, I felt stiff at the first and then things seemed to loosen up. My average pace was a lot better at 8:27 with a total time of 51:20, I had 8 minute miles there in the middle of the run so that was nice.

I finally got off my lazy butt and was able to get a run in this week. Its not been a good month so far but that is all my fault. I ran into my brother and we ran for a little bit, it was good to catch up and have some good conversation. I ran after work again today, I didn't feel real great again and my right Hammy really was tight tonight. I have been dealing with the tightness since the SGM but today I really noticed it, it didn't bother me on the Snow Canyon Half last month, maybe today it was just jacked up with 3 days of workouts in a row. i haven't been to consistent as of late but i am trying to do better. My average pace was slow at:15 with a total time of 57:45, I stretched the afterwards.
