I went out just after 11am this morning it was the last day to sleep in so I made it last! I ran out to Mini GU via canal road and just tried to enjoy the day, my back is still giving me some fitts but I just try to concentrate on form and go with it. My average pace wasn't real good but okay at 8:51 with a total time of 53:40. I'm glad I was able to get in two days in a row, thats a record for me as of late.

I had to be up early to see a client and was hoping for a run later in the day but work intruded and I just didn't have time today. I did purchase a new treadmill though and I hoping to try it out tomorrow morning.

I ran in the afternoon today after work and I tried out my new Sole F80 treadmill and it worked darn good, really smooth. My total time was 53:15 with an average pace of 8:40, I did some quarter mile pick-ups ranging from a 7:40 Pace to a 7:50 pace, I'm still feeling a little drained from the cold that I have been fighting the last week or so but pretty good other than that. Just adjusting to the treadmill and not being outside is tough but while its cold I will have to train myself to be mentally tough with it, I am not running in all the gunk outside and the temps are way to cold for me. They have to be in the 20's for me to even consider running outside, it looks like it might be a week or so until it starts to warm up a titch! I'm ready for spring already!

I hit the treadmill for 6.35 in 56 minutes and then I hopped on the elliptical for another 2 miles. I'm pooped! My average pace was pretty slow at 8:49, I had some quarter mile pick-ups in the middle of the run, 4, they were in the 7:35 to 8:00 range. I'm sick of the cold temps! It hasn't been breaking 10 degrees for a high here in Salem, its been the coldest stretch that I can ever remember.

I ran some hills today, up by mount loafer school and then up to the mailboxes down woodland hills road to canal road and then home. I took it easy going up, and then just tried on the way down to keep a good flowing stride. Average pace was 8:44  with a total time of 50:04, I did have a 7:42 mile on the way down so I am counting that as MP.

I had a mix of everthing this morning, snow drifts, wind the whole works! I ran out past Mini GU and even though I had some different conditions to deal with it was still good to see the gunk out of the air and the clear sky's. My average pace was way slow with the head wind and all the other elements at 9:10 with a total time of 55:37. It looks like a storm is coming today and tomorrow and then we're back to the cold, I can't wait for spring!

I hit the treadmill this morning, still way to much snow on the roads and it was a little cold for me, 6.60 miles on the treadmill in 60 minutes. I had some quarter mile pickups in the middle I didn't feel real good, I hope I'm not coming down with what my wife has had the last couple of days. I can't afford to get sick now with the SG Half Marathon next week...

It was in the single digits again this morning so I went down and jumped on the treadmill for 3.45 miles in 30 minutes with 4x400 pickups with a 400 rest in between each one and I also did one sprint for a .10. three of the pick-ups were in the 7:35 range and then one at 7:54. After the treadmill I ran 1.6 miles on the elliptical in 16 minutes. i really don't know what to expect with the SG Half this weekend, I think my longest run was 10 miles and that was about a month ago so I'm really not in great shape! Oh well it will be good to get away from this darn snow for a few days and the sub zero temps! 50 degrees is going to feel like 80 to us, can't wait.

I decided I had better do something today to loosen up my legs for Saturday's race so I jumped on the elliptical for 2.10 miles in 20 minutes and then I ran on the treadmill for 2.25 miles in 20 minutes. I ran 3 quarter mile pick-ups the first one was at an 8 minute pace the second one was at a 7:34 pace and then the last one was 7:48 pace with about a 2:30 rest in between each one. I really don't know what to expect for Saturday's race, I have not been very diligent running at all since the SGM so I guess I'll just do my best and do what my body will let me.

I ran the SG Half this morning and I was pleasantly surprised, I'm not in real great shape but I was only a little over 2 minutes slower than last year, so I must be in better shape than I thought. I started out running with Chad Black and then after about 5 miles he pulled away a little bit but I was able to keep him in sight and that really helped, he kind of pulled me along.

Splits are below

1. 8:04 Just getting loose.

2. 7:43 a slight up hill here.

3.7:56 a slight uphill.

4.7:50.

5. 7:58 Slight uphill.

7. 8:11 uphill.

8. 7:39 Downhill.

9. 7:56 Getting Tired.

11. 8:10 Still Tired.

12. 7:56 Feeling better.

I'm back in the gunky air and cold temps so I opted for the treadmill and elliptical today. I ran 2.10 miles on the elliptical in 20 minutes and then I ran 2.20 miles in 20 minutes on the treadmill. My legs were still a little stiff from the St. George Half on Saturday but the plan was to take it easy and I did. I finished up with some upper body weight training and then some push-ups. A good start to the week.

Nothing today. I was up early for work and then I just couldn't find anytime after work to get anything done, I feel like thats okay with the bad air out side and then still recovering from the half I 'm fine with not running. I've been trying to re-start to find my mojo again but I have decided to just go with what feels right, if I feel like running then do it but if I don't feel like running then thats okay too.

I waited for the fog to burn off a little before I went out today, I was able to get out around 10am and I ran out to Mini Gu and then back to the house all via canal road. I felt pretty good going out but with just mile or so left my legs started to really feel it, it was only my second run of the week so I think that is to be expected and I think I'm still recovering from the half marathon a week ago too. After the run I did some upper body and some lower body weight training, it felt good to do that again so it was a pretty good day, a good run and then some strength training afterwards. My average pace was slow at 8:52 with a total time of 53:58.

I ran after work today, I was able to get out around 4:40 or so and I was able to run in shorts it was nice. I ran out towards Payson via canal road and I just tried to work on my form and enjoy the nice crisp air, it was beautiful! My average pace was steady at 8:18 with a total time of 33:58, I felt pretty good but the plan is to just run around 4 to 5 miles a day and then try and throw in a longer run mid week or so. I only have a 10K on my schedule like in March so I'm not going to start hammering a whole lot of miles at this point, I want to work on speed and maybe do some hill and strength training on my legs and such. If I end up doing St. George again this year then there will be plenty of time to up miles in the early summer... I always seem to run to much in the winter and spring and them I'm fighting injury for the rest of the year so I am going to try a different approch for a change. I want to enjoy running again not feeling like I have to run because of a race coming up... Today was just a real enjoyable run.

See ya tomorow.

It was such a nice day that I blew off work this afternoon and came home and ran! I was able to get out around 3pm and I decided to do some hills, so I headed up past Mount Loafer school and went and did some hill repeats. The goal was to make each one faster than the last one with the last one being the fastest...  Its about a 200 meter hill with an 8% grade and here's how they went 7:57, 7:44, 7:40, 7:20, I rested with a 200 meter jog between each one. I then ran back down to canal road and then back to the house. Average pace was 8:45 with a total time of 45:09. It was about 2 miles uphill to where I start the hill repeats and then I cooled down with all downhill after the repeats so it was a pretty good mix of uphill and downhill. I finished up with some lower body weight training, squats, one legged squats, calf raises it was a great workout.

My watch ran out of battery so I don't have any numbers, but just before I got back to the house I was averaging an 8:30 mile for the run to that point and the last 2 miles were about the same, except for the last mile I was a little tired so it was slower. I only had enough time for a little six miler this morning, I slept in and then Ethan had a Basketball game at 11:00 so I had to hurry. I ran out to Mini Gu and then back to the house all via canal road, average pace was 8:38 with a total time of 52:41.

I ran after work today and I ran out to Payson Park and back all via canal road, it was sure nice out and I was a bit over dressed but I still ran in shorts. I felt pretty good today and the pace seemed pretty easy for the most part, average pace was 8:24 with a total time of 1:00:17, I also felt pretty good on the rollers too so that is a good sign. After the run I did my upper body weight training and then finished up with some push-up, it was a good start to the week.

I ran after work and was able to get out just before 5pm and I ran out to Mini GU and then  back to the house all via canal road, the legs were not as chipper today but they did feel better towards the end of the run which is a good sign. Average pace was slower at 8:45 with a total time 53:19, I finished up with some lower body weight training just the usual; Squats, one legged squats and some leg raises and some calf raises.

My son Ethan made the JV varsity squad for soccer as a freshman today!!! I am so proud of him he has worked his guts out the last 5 or 6 years getting ready for this one day and it paid off!!!

I didn't feel real great on the first 5 miles but I did feel better on the 2 miles that I ran with them, pace was slow on both runs for sure.

I was able to get out the door this morning at around 8:30 and I headed out past Mini Gu and then out past GU and then ran back to the house all via canal road. I felt okay, but not great, I think the increase in mileage probably was taking its tole... I really need to get at it again, I have to start commiting to it every day and not find excuses not to run, I did better this week but I really need to get my butt out of the bed in the morning and get to it!!! Its been pure laziness and feeling sorry for myself and it has to stop. After my run I ran with the kids and the club for a few miles, we had a few more runners with us and it was pretty fun and they are all doing great, I'm really proud of their commitment and its helping me to re-dedicate myself. My average pace was 8:44 with a total time of 1:28:44, I also ran into simmbad and he is looking good its the only time that we really ever get to catch up as brothers, he's very dedicated.

My son Ethan and the JV team beat Highland High School 4 to 1 and Ethan had a goal in there too! He played a great game and he played the whole game which was kind of cool, the Varsity team won as well with a score of 8 to 2! It was a good cold day.

My back is still a little bit of a bother but tolerable. My average pace was 8:42 with a total time of 35:19, I probably wont head down to St Goerge until later today I have a few things I need to do before I leave. I don't know if Ethan will be coming with me or not so I might be a loner on this one as my wife is with her Cheer team in California for nationals. So I ran the Spectrum 10 K this morning and it was an eventful day to say the least and that had nothing to do with the race. I was a minute slower than last year mainly becuase I let a couple of miles get a way from me and I lost concentration. I felt pretty good for the most part but I realized going in that I hadn't had as much training as last year, mainly do to the hard winter and motivation issues, but I still surprised myself.

My mile splits went like this:

1.6:57 Downhill big time

2. 7:20 lost it a little here for some reason.

3. 7:02 back on track.

4. 7:09 still ok.

5. 7:37 another hard to explain mile, lost concentration again!

6. 7:29 still a little out of it.

.20 1:19 better average pace for this was 6:27 so I was basically giving it all I had.

Miles 2, 5, 6 were hard to explain, I just can't figure out what happened on those. Oh well, I still feel like I had a good race even though the time was slower, but hey I qualified for the SGM so all is good. It seemes like the course was a little long but I could be wrong... 6.20 even on my watch. My average pace was 7:14

So after the race I go to get my truck key, GONE, no where to be found! So we head back up to the start and can't see anything there, so then I call the Dodge dealership and they hook me up with a guy who can get me a knew one but they want a fortune! So while I was waiting for that guy to show up, I don't ever think he was actually coming, I realized that I hadn't left me phone number with anybody in case it gets turned in. So, I send an e-mail to Aaron and low in behold with in a couple of minutes he calls me and says he has my key! Thank the lord! So I ended up getting home about three hours later than I was suppose to. Thank you to who ever turned that darn thing in, I guess someone picked it up on the trail. I'm surprised I didn't hear it drop,  this was the one race that I didn't have music in my ear. Go figure! Thanks to My Brother Curtis and Nephew Bryan for helping me look and carting me around all over, without them I don't know where I would have been!

See ya Monday.

Clay, good race, it is an effort to run your pace, I would not down play your effort, early races are hard to gage and much of the winter work is strength, not speed. The key thing, the price of new key is crazy, just another way for the dealer to make a forture.

The plan today was to drop Ethan off at Soccer practice at 7am and then come home and run, but I came home and laid down for a minute and then the next thing I knew it was 9:00! I hopped out of bed and then headed out the door... I ran out past GU corner and then down into the river bottoms until I hit my 5 mile mark and then I headed back to the house all via canal road. My legs were really feeling it from the get go, I just didn't feel real great. I wanted to finish with my average pace being sub 8:40 and I knew I would be running on tired legs but I told my self I could do it. My average pace on the way out was slow at 8:50 so I knew I had my work cut out for me. On the way back I just tried to work on my form and stay steady, I wanted to really  pick my pace up on the last of each mile and so I did, with the last 2 being 8:00 and 7:57. My legs were tired but I showed myself that I can keep the pace quicker even on tired legs so mission accomplished! My average pace was 8:34 and my total time was 1:26:22, I'm proud of myself  for the way I finished. I could have just taken it easy and said to heck with it and got the miles done and called it a day, but I didn't.

I ran after work today, I headed out around 4:30 and I ran out towards Payson Park it was windy and it seemed no matter which direction I ran the wind was in my face! It was a tough run from the stand point that my legs were dead and then the wind was a pain but I was able to get it done which is a positive. My average pace was slow at 8:46 with a total time of 54:37, I finished up with my upper body weight training and then some push-ups...

Average pace was 8:25 with a total time of 27:26... One terrorist down and one more to go! I hate these people that think they can hurt innocent people and then just get a way with it, not in the the good old USA we take care of our own!!! I don't know why this happened other than I did walk 18 holes of golf yesterday afternoon so maybe the old legs were just worn out! My average pace was 8:48 with a total time of 1:10:52, like I said a death march!!!

Morning run today out to Payson Park and back and I added in the rollers, I felt really good considering how I felt on Saturday it was night and day!  My average pace was at 8:21 with a total time of 59:57, any time I can do this route under an hour I know I have given a pretty good effort. The pace wasn't hard at all, I just kept it steady as she goes. It has been a good start to the week.

My pace was up beat and I had some miles in the 8:14 to 8:08 towards the end, average pace was 8:20 with a total time of 50:44. It was a good run and I am glad that I was finally able to get out again this week, no strength training this morning.

I decided to start really training again which means getting up at 6am and getting after it so today was the day. When I woke up I felt like I was going to throw-up, but I went ahead and drank some Gatorade and it seemed to settle my stomach some. I headed out the door and I knew right off the bat that I wasn't feeling good, my stomach just was way upset and my legs had nothing in them so I must have a touch of something... I ran the Payson Park loop and the I extended down into the park, my average pace was 8:56 with a total time of 1:04:13, last week I ran this same route and did it under an hour so you can see I was really struggling and not feeling well with the way slow pace. I finished up with some upper body weight training and then some push-ups, I'm glad I stuck with it and got through it because I am not feeling good at all, just real weak.

My average pace was a little better than yesterday too at 8:30 with a total time of 52:01, after the run I did my lower body weight training; leg presses, squats, calf raises and one legged leg raises. Hey Clay! I just wanted to apologize for not getting back with you when you called us in Boston. I am just barely getting through all of the voice mails that we received. It was just too overwhelming to get through them all at that time. Thanks so much for your concern! It has felt great to Tom and I to feel all the love from family and friends!

I hope you get feeling better soon! This spring time weather that we are having is not the time to be sick!

I felt pretty darn good today, once I got back to the house I decided to tack on another mile so I ran out towards the old barn on the canal road. My average pace for the run was 8:28 with a total time of 1:00:48, after the run I did my lower body weight training, squats, leg raises, legs presses and one legged squats and some calf raises. I wasn't sure how well my legs would feel this morning after all the yard work yesterday, I put down 3 yards of mulch in all my flower beds yesterday so They were pretty tired from getting in and out of the trailer... I was pleasantly surprised and they did really well, they were a little tired towards the end but I was faster on the way back so that was a good sign. I ran out to Gu and then down into the river bottoms and then back to the house the same way, there were a lot runners out this morning so that was cool to see. My average pace was 8:32 with a total time of 1:26:01, it was a very good week of training this week at least for me anyway. Now it's down to Snow to pack up Abby and bring her home for the summer.

My Pace was pretty slow at an average of 8:47 with a total time of 1:02:48, the last two miles were like a freaking death march, but I am proud of myself for getting up and getting her done. After the run I did my upper body weight training and then finished up with some push-ups and some crunches on the big rubber ball. My average pace for the run was 8:11 with a total time of 58:54, the quicker miles felt really good they didn't feel like I was over doing it so I feel like I am on the right track. After the run I did my upper body weight training and then finished with some pus-ups, I went lite on the sets, just one set of each as I have a pro-am golf tournament this afternoon and I didn't want to be to trashed.

I was having stomach issues the last 2 miles or so and I barley made it home if you know what I mean, not a pretty sight! My legs were just so dead today and I don't know why, maybe it was the up tempo type run on Saturday but that wasn't even that big of deal because I was pretty much the same as during the week, my average pace that is, so I really don't know why it was such a pain this morning.  My average pace was way slow at 8:54 with a total time of 1:03:27, I finished up with some upper body weight training and then some push-ups, the strength training was even tough, I must be coming down with something or it was just a bad day! I meet Chad over to Peteetneet school in Payson and we ran up Payson Canyon to Beer can Flats and then back to the school, just over 6 miles round trip. The last two miles coming out of the canyon were 7:30 spot on so it was a pretty good workout, really good uphill and then some pretty good downhill. After I got home I cooled down a mile out to the Stake Center and back, average pace for the run was 8:28 with a total time of 1:03:03, after the run I did my lower body weight training. It was a great run and I felt so much better than yesterday, which is a good thing!

I ran out Past Mini GU and half way up power house and then back to the house all via canal road... I did not feel good today and the last mile or so was like a death march, my average pace was slow at 8:51 with a total time of 1:03:49. I think the shoes that I wore have had their day they have over 300 miles on them and it seems that when they get that many miles on them my legs really start to feel it, old age sucks! After the run I did a light lower body weight training to finish up.

So I didn't even get out this morning, I was going to go at like 5am but I slept through my alarm and then I didn't have enough time to run before my golf that I had planned so I ran nothing today... kind of a lousy week of training  but I did get some hill work in but I need to make sure on Saturday"s that I don't schedule anymore golf unless its in the afternoon, it screws everything up as far as my long run goes. Back at it Monday!

I ran the Payson Park loop this morning and what a warm morning it was! Crazy warm! I guess summer is finally here! My legs felt okay for most of the run but then with about a mile to go they really hit the wall for some stupid reason but I was glad to get her done this morning as I didn't have a real good training week last week. My average pace was fair at 8:28 with a total time of 1:00:47, after the run I did my upper body weight training and then finished up with some push-ups. My goal for this week is 45 miles plus, so I really have to stay motivated and consistent, no more weeks like last week I have stay with it and get a run in everyday from here on until St. George.

After I returned home I ran out to the Stake Center to cool down for a mile, average pace for the day was 8:13 with a total time of 1:00:03, after the run I did my lower body weight training, just the usual.

I ran out to Mini GU via canal road and I didn't feel good at all, my guts hurt from the get go and my legs were pretty dead from the late run last night so my pace was way slow... I hope I haven't pulled a muscle in my stomach cuz that would really tick me off, its been there the last little while but after about a half a mile it goes away but not today. I will have a lite day tomorrow so I'll see how it is then, my average pace was slow at 9:12 with a total time of 55:54. My average pace was okay at 8:31 with a total time of 1:43:00 even, I felt better towards the end and not so good in the middle but it was a good run and I'm glad that I was able to get it done.

Miles are miles and they were at a decent pace. Certainly better than not running. Would it be cliche to say that the bad runs make us appreciate the good ones more?

I might run a little after work maybe later this evening but the way my legs felt on wednesday I might just cut my loses and go long tomorrow. I have found out that sometimes with running that some weeks less is better, this might be one of those weeks:) Aw to be young again! I was hoping that I would have a good run this morning where I had taken a couple of days off and I did have a pretty good run, I felt pretty good through out the run and my pace was up beat... A lot of the miles were in the 8:10 to 8:15 range and then I had a few slower miles as well so a pretty good mix, I ran out past GU and then down into the river bottoms and then I ran my 2 mile loop down in there and then headed back to the house the same way. I was able to see a few friends along the way which always makes it fun... When I got back to the house I had some Gatorade at the top of the street so I fueled up and then ran out past the old and then back to the house, I was feeling pretty good so I did another 2 mile loop out past the stake center and then back to the house.. My average pace was 8:22 with a total time of 2:15:35, I had planed on just doing 14 miles but I felt so good that I felt like a few more so I went with it, it was a beautiful morning.

I ran the Payson Park Loop this morning via canal road, my legs felt like a couple of cement blocks but I was able to keep the pace pretty steady through out the run, on the way home with about a half mile left I started to have stomach issues and I barley made it home... My average pace was at 8:29 with a total time of 1:00:45, I finished up with some upper body weight training and then some push-ups. It has been a good start to the week, my stomach and abdominal region is still pretty tender so I'm not sure what is going on there. I can still run okay but it seems the longer I go the more I feel, Saturday it was pretty sore at times and then other times it seemed okay so I will have to keep an eye on it just to be sure.

So this was another really bad run this morning! My legs were so dead that it was just a struggle the whole run, I looked back to when it happened last week and I think I know why... Yesterday I was so busy at work that I skipped lunch and then ate a light dinner and nothing else, I'm not fueling up properly after my runs. I have to eat at least lunch and breakfast it will do me no good if I don't. Note to self, EAT! I ran out past Mini GU and then back to the house all via canal road, my average pace was way way slow at 9:30 with a total time of 1:07:58, like I said way slow! I finished up with my lower body weight training, that felt better than running. I was suppose to run Payson Canyon today with the boys but it was good thing that I didn't cuz I would have crashed and burned big time.

I ran the old blue mailbox route this morning, it was a little warm out there this morning, I ran a 2 mile warm up and then I did 6 quarter mile pick-ups. I felt okay but not great, I wasn't very smooth at all, very choppy, but I was able to get it done. The pace was between 7:30 and 7:40 pace for each pick-up so a little slower than I would like but at least I was able to do a little speed... With about a mile and a half left to get home I ran with Pat Loss for about a mile of that and we picked up the pace to around an 8 minute mile for that bit and then I took it easy the last .50 to home. Average pace was a little better this morning at 8:24 with a total time of 1:02:52, I finished up some upper body weight training and then some push-ups.

My average pace was 8:27 with a total time of 1:00:34, I finished up with my lower body weight training, just the usual. It was a good run and I'm glad I got out this morning.

I did not feel great at all today, pace was slow and labored and the legs were pretty much dead from the get go, it was hotter today so maybe I'm not use to it but it was a tough day out there. Last weeks 16 miler was easier than this 14 miler, not good.  My average pace was 8::47 with a total time of 2:04:23, I didn't see a lot of runners out this morning, I did see Tom and Kim but that was about it.

I was out the door at just before 6am and I headed out towards Mini GU and I ran into Chad, Tom and Hal and they wanted me to run up over Harry's Hill with them so I did and then after Harry's we picked up Pat Loss and we all ran together. It was a fun run and they kept the pace pretty honest and for sure up beat, at least for me anyway,  I had some sub 8 Minute miles in there with some of the downhill. Those were 7:35, 8:00, 7:54, anything 8 minute mile or less is MP miles for me so I'm counting them as such. Ran into my Brother Curtis and his son Bryan and Curtis decided to push the pace and it almost killed me, I don't know what he was thinking, I think his getting faster in his old age! HAHA!  Chad picked me up after 14.50 miles and dropped me at the stake center and I ran back to the house which gave me 15 even. My Gatorade that I had stashed was nice and slushy so I got a drink and decided to tack on a another mile, I felt like I could have keep going but decided to stop. The plan is to build slowly up to the 18 and 20 milers but my last mile was 7:54 so I was pretty proud of myself after a nice hard workout I still had a little zip in the old legs. They were zippy for me anyway!!! My average pace was 8:26 with a total time of 2:15:53. it was a good workout!

I ran out to Payson Park this morning via canal road, my legs were pretty dead on the way out but then on the way back they seemed a lot better. I hope that means that I'm finally getting stronger after my long runs on Saturday, the last few Monday's my legs have been really dead and I had a pretty strong long run last Saturday so I really thought the old legs would be fried this morning. My average pace was a little slower than usual at 8:52 with a total time of 1:03:40, after the run I did my upper body weight training and then finished up with some push-ups. I did have a VPB and it was pretty much out in the open so I hope no one saw me, I also on the way back saw 3 big bucks crossing canal road. Since I didn't run yesterday on the advice of my PT I went a little bit farther than normal, Joel worked me over pretty good on Wednesday and I think that was the soreness that I was feeling for the first little bit. My average pace was 8:39 with a total time of 1:19:32, after the run I did my lower body weight training, just the usual. My average pace was 8:36 with a total time of 38:52, I hope my calf will cooperate and let me get in a good long run tomorrow and I sure hope this thing doesn't slow me down! So the plan today was to hopefully be able to run if my calf would cooperate, the first 2 to 3 miles were very difficult but it seemed like after it got loosened up it felt pretty good and I was able to keep going. I ran out towards Mini Gu and ran into the guys and then we headed up over Harry's and then down to the stake center and then back out to GU corner and then down on the river trail. I had just 15 miles or so and then Chad picked me and Pat loss up and I had him drop me off at the stake center and then I ran a few more out past my house. My legs just didn't have it to day, they felt a lot better last week but I guess that's all part of the process. My average pace way slower than last week at 8:51 with a total time of 2:37:30, it was still a great time with the guys and I just hope this darn calf will heal up. I will have a lighter week next week where I'll be out of town over the weekend so I will just have a 6 to 7 miler on next Saturday down in Huntington beach, I will be back in time for the Speedy Spaniard on the 24th though.

I ran out towards Payson but stopped a little short, I was having stomach issues so I had to find a place for a VPB, after that I headed back to the house because I had to be home to take Ethan to Cross Country. After dropping him off I came home and ran 2 more miles out past the stake center and then back to the house all via canal road, my calf was about the same as Saturday, it was sore for the first 2 miles or so and then it was fine after that. it was still there but it didn't hinder me any and my pace seemed to quicken after it was loosened up... My pace was slower than normal at 8:53 with a total time of 1:04:03, some of the reason why I was slower was my legs were just way tired from Saturday but after I got going for a little bit they seemed to get better as the run went on, after the run I did my upper body weight training and then finished up with some push-ups. My abdominal strain seems to be getting better I will wait to do any crunches until next week, I want to make sure its completely healed before I start doing that again.

I was suppose to run Payson Canyon down this morning but I was really concerned that my calf wouldn't be able to handle it so I opted for running up Loafer canyon via Mount Loafer school. I ran 3 miles up and then 3 miles down, my calf felt pretty good going up but it was a little more noticable on the way down but still runnable,  I don't know how it would have handled the 8 miles all down if I had run Payson canyon. I probably would have had to run it a lot slower which is probably all right, so I will give Payson canyon a try next week if the gang runs it. I had 3 MP miles on the way down and they were,  7:45, 7:32, 7:27, my average pace was 8:31 with a total time of 1:01:09. So even though I didn't get the full affect of Payson Canyon at least I did get in a good workout, I finished up with my Lower body weight training. I will be heading down to Huntington Beach with my wife for a few days, we are leaving the kids home and getting some down time, hopefully they won't burn the house down! Haha!

Tom- I think I'll be good to go next week for Payson, I'll just have to take it slower than I'd like but it should be fine. Sorry I missed you guys today.

I ran along the beach again today, still really humid and my calf was a bit of a bother today which wasn't good but I was able to get her done. We head home early tomorrow so I don't know if I will get a run in or not but I will try. Speedy Spaniard on Wednesday but I am still debating wheather or not to run it, I will have to see how my calf is doing. No watch today as I got to the beach and realized that I had left it at the hotel, another senior moment!

I ran the Speedy Spaniard 10K this morning, I have run this race a lot and I have run one of my fastest 10K's on this course but not today... In fact the last few years I have had slower times, and this year was no different.  I have run a lot so far this year but I really had a stinker of a race, my calf seemed okay and didn't really give me any problems, I new it was  little stiff but it wasn't hindering me in any way. I really don't know what the reason is for the slower times but it is really disappointing, I did drive all day yesterday from Huntington Beach California and my legs were pretty stiff last night when we got home from in activity. I know I need to do more speed work, that is a given, but how do I balance that with my other training, just the usual questions. I need to do hill work to get ready for St. George so I will need to incorporate some speed in there some how, maybe speed one week and the Hill work the off week. I don't know... Here's how the race went.

1. 7:43 This mile is pretty much uphill and my legs were all ready feeling it.

2. 7:34 This is pretty much down hill and my pace wasn't much better...

3. 7:36 More flat with a slight down hill, one good thing here is my breathing had finally evened out and I felt better the previous couple of miles.

4. 7:36 This is a pretty flat mile and the pace was the same so I am working at trying to have an even pace, which is a good thing.

5. 7:32 I tried to pick it up a little here but it really didn't show to much.

6. 7:35 Just trying to finish...

.20 7:01 I had passed a guy and I could see he was trying to catch me so I held him off, proud of my self for that.

I guess it was some good speed work for the week;)

My Son Ethan broke the 40 minute mark and I was way proud of him for that, 39:36! I wish I could get him to really race because I know he is in shape to run a 36 or 37 minute 10K, He took 3 in his age group (15-18), and he runs daily with his Cross Country Team but when he gets in a race he finds a pace that's comfortable and then he just stays with it instead of extending himself. Maybe this year in Cross Country his coach will show him how, because he won't listen to me, HAHA.

My average pace was 7:35.

See ya tomorrow.

I ran the Payson Park loop this morning via canal road, my calf was a little sore when I started but then on the second half of the run it seemed to feel better. My pace was way slow due to the 4 days of in-activity but I'm glad that I was able to get in a run I hope I can continue to push these last few month towards St George. My average pace was 8:55 with a total time of 1:03:59, after the run I did my upper body weight training and then I finished up with some push-ups. It has been a good start to the week!

Not a good day, I was only able to get to the stake center and I had to turn back to the house, my calf was really bad... Pretty depressed right now and down right disappointed, when I got back home I decided to try the elliptical so I ran on that for 2.10 miles and it seemed a little better so then I jumped on the treadmill for a mile but it was still painful, not as bad though, I couldn't do much more than I ran...  I really don't know what to do at this point, should I just forget about  St. George and let it heal and then start all over again, or should I just be done period!? I really don't know what to think, I can't do St George with no hill training it just doesn't work. I will ice this morning and then give it a try again tomorrow and see how it goes, but I am not to optimistic. This is same the injury as last year so who knows.

I ran 5.25 miles in 50 minutes on the elliptical and then 1.25 miles on the treadmill. I finished up with some upper body weight training and then some push-ups. I will try and run Payson Canyon with the Gang tomorrow and see how my calf does, I had no pain while on the elliptical and then some pain when on the treadmill so I'll give it a try tomorrow on the road and see how I do. At least I know I can do the elliptical... Joel, my PT, gets back tomorrow and he said he can work on it on Friday so I'm hoping he can get it feeling better.

I was able to run Payson Canyon this morning with the gang, my calf did surprisingly well. It was a little sore at the beginning but it seemed the longer I went the better it seemed to feel so that was a pleasant surprise! I ran with Kim for some and then I ran the last half with Tom and Alan, I didn't push the pace but I had 6 miles that were 8 minute mile pace or less so that was a good thing. My average pace was 8:03 with a total time of 1:28:46, the goal is to get this were I'm averaging a 7:30 pace or better so I am real close. I really needed this run today and I almost didn't go because of the fear of my calf not being able to handle it but it did so that's one under my belt. Joel worked on my calf last night to and it was pretty tender and sore so I went conservative. 4.10 miles on the elliptical in 40 minutes, it took me a bit to get the legs so they would actually go a decent clip but then it seemed to get the old quads pretty loose, I'm hoping that I will be able to get back at it on Monday.

Well, I tried some new topical stuff on my calf that I got from Pat Loss that he has used in the past and it seemed to help a little bit. I was able to run some but I really didn't feel great just from the fact that I just have no energy, but the calf did better today so I have decided to give this thing another week and my plan is to see if I can get my mileage back up to where it was before the injury this next week...  And then if I can get in a decent long run next week, 10 to 15 miles, then my plan is to stay in this and see what I can do, I would still have time to get in a couple 20 milers and then maybe not taper as much but again that will all depend on next week. I will have to be able to be back up to at least 6 to 7 miles a day by Friday and then a decent long run on Saturday. No watch today as it was out of battery but it felt like about an 9 minute mile, very slow and very laboring, I hit the elliptical for 3 miles in 30 minutes and I felt a little better after that. I all so did my lower body weight training in between the running and the elliptical.

See ya Monday.

Well I tried some running this morning on the treadmill and I was really surprised by everything, I ran 2.20 miles in 19 minutes and i had a couple of quarter mile repeats at an 8 minute pace in the middle of the run.. My calf seemed to do pretty good and there was hardly any pain at all, I'm not sure what that means but I will try it out on the road tomorrow and see how it goes. I did still have some pain in my abdominal area but it seemed to get better the farther I went so that is a positive as well, I will try running 3 miles tomorrow and see how I do and if theres no pain then I will increase a little each day until the end of the week and then see where I'm at. If I can go this whole week with no pain and if I could get a couple of long runs in before Marathon then I might give it a try. I figure if I can get in a 15 miler and then an 18 miler in consecutive weeks then it could be doable. I don't want to get a head of myself though cuz then I'll just be disappointed again and i don't want to go through that.

I tried running outside today, I ran out past the stake center and out to the T in the road. Calf was marginal at best but my abdominal aera was not good, it pretty much hurt every step so that was not good... Calf started to hurt a little towards but nothing to bad, I don't know what the heck I've done to my abdominals, I must have strained it some how. Pace wasn't bad at the start but I was pretty much just jogging at the end so my pace slowed the further I went, that was mostly because of my abdomen. My average pace was 9:10 with a total time of 31:21, after the run I did some light lower body weight training to finish up. I don't really know where I go from here, I will stay running for as long as I can this week and see if it gets better. I should have my Elliptical fixed in a few days so I would like to run some and then cross training on the ellipitical if I can. I know that I can do that for as long as I can stand so maybe run 3 to 4 miles and then 3 miles on the elliptical, maybe. It all depends on if I can continue to run or not, if I can't then I'm just going to stop everything and just get healed up.

I will probably start doing some running this week, mainly because when I go to the surgeon I want to be sure that the pain I've been having is actually from a hernia. I don't have a lot of trust in doctors, if you know what I mean:)

Later.

PM- I ran out to Mini GU corner and I felt pretty darn good, calf seems to be healed up and my hernia now seems slightly better but it is way tender and sore so I will probably still have it fixed in a few weeks. I'll see what the doctor says next week and then go from there. My pace was okay but I felt like I had really good form for a change and I felt like a runner again, I don't know how I will feel tomorrow but I will deal with that when it gets here. Average pace 8:55 with my last 2 miles in the 8:30 range, I finished up with some light upper body weight training and then some push-ups.

I ran the payaon park loop today but cut out the rollers, I didn't feel as good this morning really tender and after about 4 miles my legs really got tired.  But it was a good tired. My pace was slower today at 9:24 with a total time of 58:31, pace wise it sucked but I am just glad to be running. I might take tomorrow off, it will depend how my hernia is feeling, its really sore and tender today.

Am-Nothing this morning but hopefully something after work. Hernia really sore this morning, so I'll probably do the elliptical or maybe the treadmill, depends on how I feel.

PM- I started out with 30 minutes on the elliptical and I ran 3.10 miles in that 30 minutes, I then stretched for a minute and then I jumped on the treadmill for 30 minutes and I was able to run 3.35 miles, I did some pick-ups at the end of each mile for .25. they weren't very fast though,  but they were faster than I have been going the last little bit so that is progress! It was a good way to end the day and I was able to stay out of the rain outside so it was a win, win!

Average pace was slow at 9:14 with a total time of 55:10, beautiful day out just the right temps! I hope it really cools down for the marathon next week, I want the boys in girls to have a good race, evening though I can't run it.

My legs were really tired so I just went with it and took it nice and easy. My average pace was 9:30 with a total time of 31:15, I know it's about a minute off my normal training pace but I'm happy to just be out. I know when I get my hernia done I'll be out a while, at least a month, so I need to try and do what I can until then. It's been a good week.

Clyde- Not sure yet on the surgery date. I go to the surgeon on Tuesday and then we will look for a date, probably in a couple of weeks. I'm a little nervous about it, in my 50 years of life I've never had any surgery, so I'm not sure what to expect.

I ran out towards Payson and I could tell I was running a little better this morning because my turn over was a lot quicker, hernia was still a bother but about the same so no worries there. After about 4 miles I had to take Ethan to school and then I came home and ran a couple more out past the Stake Center and back. Average pace was 8:43 with the last 3 in the sub 8:30 range, I finished up with some lite upper body weight training and then some push-ups. So a lot better this morning, I go to see the surgeon tomorrow about my Hernia so I hope he will set a date and then I get the darn thing fixed.

So I go to the surgeon today and he checks me out and says that I don't have a hernia! What The?! He seemd to think its some kind of pulled muscle. He wants me to quit running for two weeks and then see where we are at! I don't know what to think? He gave me some excersizes and stretches to do so I guess I will try that and then see how it goes. I am very frustrated right now!

Pace was easy and just enjoying the nice afternoon temps! My average pace was 8:56 with a total time of 55:15, after the run I did some lite upper body weight training and then some push-ups. My abdomen was ok, I've been doing what the Doctors have told me to do but it feels better when and after I run, so for now I will run and see how it goes.

What a surprising effect, everything just started to flow together and I thought how easy the running was, so the next mile I really started to work on my form and the next mile was an easy 8:14, and then the next mile was 8:27 and then the last mile was 8:24... They were all sub 8:30 which is my usual training pace, I couldn't freaking believe it! All this time my upper body was restricting my lower body and so it was making it difficult to run. We just got back into Port this morning and now we are in LA by Disneyland, we are spending a few more days here, maybe hit Disneyland and then we will head home later this week. I haven't been running and I probably won't until later this week, I decided to just take some time off and I am hoping that all these little injuries will subside. I didn't want to have any conflict that would take a way time with the kids. This will probably be the last time we will all be together with Abby leaving on a mission in Feburary and then Cade will be leaving sometime after that, so it was a good time to do it. We might hit a clippers game too.

See ya later on in the week.

We finally returned home from our trip last night and so I thought since its been almost 2 weeks since I have ran that  I had better get out and do one. I ran out to Mini GU and then back to the house via canal road, everythiing felt pretty good just the old legs were tired from inactivity the last lttle while, my pace was pretty steady and my average was 8:29 with a total time of 51:36. Most of my aches and pains seemed to have subsided so I'm hoping that I can really start going again, I have had a tough go of it the last lettle while. I have missed getting out and I want to get back to being a runner again.

See ya Monday

I was up a 6am and then out the door by 6:15am into the black of the morning, I ran the Payson Park loop this morning but I cut out the rollers. I felt okay but my abdominal strain is still hanging around, but its tolerable and isn't to bad. My average pace was steady at 8:26 with a total time of 52:40, my legs were getting a little tired towards the end but other than that it was all good. After the run I did my upper body weight training and then I finished up with some push-ups, this morning was probably the last day in shorts, it is suppose to get really cold after today.

See ya tomorrow

I opted to run in doors today, I was not running in the blizzard outside. I started with 3.10 miles in 30 minutes on the elliptical and then I went to the treadmill and ran 3.40 miles in 30 minutes with 2x400 with a 400 jog in between each repeat. The repeats were in the 7:40 range and they were NOT easy at all in fact they were pretty laobored but at least I did it. I finished up with some lower body weight training. Not sure why I have really slowed in my pace, my HR was at 163 at a 8:35 pace and usually it is sub 150 or right around 150 and the repeats were in the 170 plus range and they use to be in the 160 range. I have been to the doctor a few times for this and that and my blood presure is up in the 135 range and I am normally 120 or lower, so I don't know what to think... All I know is that that pace was way to hard , maybe I am just out of shape.

See ya tomorrow.

I ran out to Mini GU corner via canal road and it wasn't to bad, the roads were pretty decent and the sun was out to so that made it all good. I felt okay going out but then I got pretty tired the last mile or so, my average pace was 8:49 with a total time of 53:31 I finished up with some upper body weight training and some push-ups. My average HR was 148 which isn't to bad but the pace was pretty easy but it felt hard at times so kind of wierd.

See ya tomorrow.

To cold for me today, I got home from work and the sun was going down and it said it was 8 degrees so I went down stairs and hammered it out. 40 minutes on the elliptical and I went 4.10 miles and then I finished up on the treadmill for 2.29 miles in 20 minutes it was an 8:42 pace, so a total of 60 minutes. After that I did some lower body weight training to finish up, all in all it was a great workout and it beats being out in the cold.

See ya tomorrow.

I started out towards mini GU and the wind was so bad I headed back to Salem where there was no wind and I ran out to Payson Pool via canal road, still no wind, which included Payson Park and the rollers. If it never got colder than 25 or so I could be a real happy runner cuz it was pretty toasty for most of the run. Pace was way slow again and my legs were pretty much dead from the get go, I don't know what to think about my running I seem to be back to where I was before my vacation, just slow and labored and no fun at all! My average pace was 9:12 with a total time of 1:35:02, after a day off I use to come back the next day and just run strong but not now... My blood preasure has been upa little latley so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not, all I know is if things don't change the SG half is going to be mighty embarrassing.

See ya Monday.

I ran 5.10 miles on the elliptical in 50 minutes I then did my upper body weight training and some push-ups, after that I ran 1.15 miles on the treadmill in 10 minutes to round out the 60 minutes. No way was I going outside when it is single digits, no way! it was a pretty good workout and I'm glad I did it!

I got home after work and the temps were very tolerable so I put on my gear and away I went, I ran out past Mini Gu and then back to the house via canal road. I ran into simmbad and we chatted for a brief moment and then we both headed for the barn as the sun was going down. I have to convince my self that even though its a little cold its okay to go out if I'm bundled up right, it really wasn't that bad. I finished up with my upper body weight training and then some push-ups.  My average pace was pretty good today at 8:27 with a total time of 52:51, that is a lot better pace for me and I felt stronger towards the end which is a change. I hope that I am finally coming around.

I was able to get out a little early in the afternoon and it was a super nice day! Its sick that I'm saying that but at 20 degrees it felt like summer was back, you have to love winters in the great state of Utah! I ran some hills today and wasn't to sure what to expect but I headed out to Mt loafer school via Canal road and then up Loafer canyon road, up to the Mailboxes and then over to the top of Harrys Hill and then home via canal road. This is a pretty tough little hill run cuz you have both up and down hill and it can work you pretty good, I had 2 miles in the MP range and they were 7:32, mostly downhill and then the next one at 7:55, this one was mostly flat and I didn't feel like I was working hard at all. My total time was 59:38 and my average pace was 8:24, this was a very good run for me, anytime I can run this route under 60 minutes I have had a good run, I really didn't have any leg fatigue at all so that was a really good sign.  So kind of a runners high right now and I haven't had one of those for awhile, and I almost didn't run today so I am glad that I did! I finished up with some very, very, light lower body weight training.

See ya tomorrow.

I slept in but my wife told me to go and run cuz she knew that I would regret it later on so I got my gear on and headed out. I ran out past GU and then down into the riverbottoms to my 5 mile mark and then I turned and headed back the same way, all via canal road. My pace was steady at 8:27 with a total time of 1:25:24, I felt pretty darn good for most of the run excpet for the last mile I started to feel it a little but thats a good feeling! My wife was right, I am glad that I went cuz it was a real positive run. 3 good runs in a row, whats a guy to do!

See ya Monday.

I ran after work and didn't hit the road until almost 5 so it was dark on the way back but I was able to get a run in and that is what counts! I ran out past Mini GU and then back to the house, i was a little clunky on the way out but then on the way back I was able to get in to a pretty good rhythm. My average pace was 8:38 with a total time of 52:52, I finished up with some upper body weight training and then some push-ups.

I ran after work today, it was a mild bizzard but not to bad and I was glad that I was able to get out, I started out not feeling real great but as the run went on I seemed to feel better. I ran out to the base of Harry's Hill and then ran to the top, over to woodland hills drive down that and over to canal road and then home. I had one MP mile at 7:46 and then the rest were just steady.  My average pace was 8:47 with a total time of 56:06, I finished up with some lower body weight training, it was good mixture of uphill and downhill today.

I waited and ran later in the morning giving the snowblows a chance to clear the roads a bit. I felt okay for the most part this morning, not real strong but not real weak either... It snowed the whole way so it was pretty frustrating with the snow pounding down on me, I had to do a VPB which I haven't had for a long while so that was a treat!  My average pace was okay at 8:38 and a total time of 1:27:04, I'm glad I got this run in because this week has not been a real good week of training, kinda lazy if you know what I mean.

I ran out to Mini GU and then back to the house, I really felt horrible today, everything just hurt! It was a tough run but I got her done! I don't know why I am hurting so much at times, its pretty discouraging to say the least. My pace was way slower than normal which coinsides with the death march! Average pace was 9:04 with a total time of 54:44, now I'm out to get some last minute shopping done before the big day! I finally was able to get a run in this week only the second one for the week but I got her done! I ran out to Gu and then back to the house, pace was pretty slow but thats okay where I haven't really run this week. I just wanted to get out and loosen up the old legs, my goal is to get going again next week and try and rededicate myself...  I have been pretty lazy as of late and I need to go in a better direction, goal one get my butt out of bed and get my run done, everything else flows from there. It seems like a simple solution if I can only apply it! Average pace was 8:52 with a total time of 1:12:10, legs were tired at times and I had another VPB, the last two long runs I have had the same problems.

I ran in the afternoon today and it was a really nice day, the air was a little gross but it was still a good day. I ran out the Payson Park loop today and extended down into the park via canal road, this was the first day in a long time that I ran and nothing really hurt, I was really stunned by the whole thing and it made me realize why I love running so much! Its days like these that make me feel so good inside and make me want to run even more, I hope this continues. On miles 3, 4 and 5 I did a little progression and they went like this: 8:14 (some up hill), 7:51 (half up and half down), 7:32 (half flat and .25 up and then the same down). The last two miles I just kind of cruised and enjoyed the the last few miles, my average pace was 8:11 with a total time of 58:52. I finished up with upper body weight training and some push-ups, I hope I have more days like this a head! It was a great run!
