Workout mile, 1200, 800, mile, 1200, 800. None of the times were very quick, i was in the group which suprised me, and we were a lot closer to mantz then I was expecting. Grass was frosted over, it was cold, early, hilly, and basically everything set for some slow times, but good effort. I feel that I'm in a good spot for where I want to be now in order to be ready for march 15.

Felt pretty decent, breathing wasn't great but it wasn't bad. Legs felt GREAT! went out in 4:27, I feel that I should have gone out with aidan and garnica cuz I feel that I would have slowed down about the same amount, I just was too scared. Felt like I'm finally growing stronger again though so I'm happy about the race, and I should be able to throw down some good times in the future.

Calf was bugging me a lot. 4x mile. Coach wanted me running in the front with the A group but I didn't feel like I should. but i still did it. went 4:32, 4:33, then switched to flats, and my calf tightened up bad after 1000, but I was going 4:35 pace, then last one i just kinda gave up and ran 4:47. Calf just didn't loosen up.

Not what I hoped. Warm up then race

Felt good, really good, except at 3k in my calf started hurting and it got worse, then at a little after 5k coach pulled me. Super annoying that my calf decided not to cooperate because my breathing was better then it was at OSU. I felt soooo smooth and spoon easy throughout the whole thing besides my calf. Super bummer but maybe I'll get to run conference if my calf is better.

Shout-out to the two other byu fast running bloggers who both won their races!! 22:50 and 24:02 or something speedy like that for mantz and Ethan cannon

The doctor says I can start running again on Monday next week...but I will definitely be starting all over as a "Hobby Jogger". I need to get one of those uniforms. :)

few mile warm up.

4 mile race, coach told me before the race, just go out, be patient and then go for it. So that's kind of what I did, I was a little too patient and let Aidan get like a 15 second gap by 2 miles, then I started going, and closed it down to about 5 seconds, then last mile I slowed a bit and the gap got back up to 15 seconds. Most of it was running on my own. So I probably won't go to conference but maybe if I look good, coach said that I could still go to nationals which would be the goal.

2 mile warmup 

3k race: went out and felt strong and good the whole time. I don't think I have ever felt so good in a race. I came through the mile at 4:16. i felt a little bit tired by the mile but I was thinking that i would be fine throughout. kept up the pace but then I got stuck behind a guy who slowed down. I kicked it in at the end super well. my splits were 64, 64, 63, 64, 63, 66, 64, 30 (for the 200).

5x hilly 800. Felt super smooth, back, breathing, and everything was great.

Found out I'll be going as an alternate to nationals. If it was a flat course I would feel like that would be a good call, but since it is a pretty hilly course and I thrive on the hills I'm kinda disappointed but I guess it is what it is. I'll just have to not have any hiccups next year before nationals so I can prove that I am super fit.

Zack...congratulations on being selected as an alternate. I know it isn't exactly what you wanted, and I know very well what it feels like being selected as an alternate, but the entire year has been a team effort, and if it weren't for all of the members of the team working and pushing each other in workouts the racing team wouldn't be the team that they are. So their accomplishments are the entire team's accomplishment. Feel proud... You have had a good year, and still have track season to look forward to.

Zack...I was able to watch the NCAA cross country championship. Even though BYU did not have their best day, they can be proud. When I saw the course on the video, I could have never run well on that course. Because of my poor balance I do not do well on dirt roads or trails, and that course also looked very hot, dry and dusty. Terrible conditions for me.

When does your outdoor track season begin? Will you be doing the 3000 steeple again this year?

1200, 800, 1200, 800 jumping every other one for steeple. Not gonna lie, the warmup and the first 1200 and the first lap of the 800 I felt like I was super weak and couldn't breath. But it got better the further along. My form wasn't great, but on one jump I accelerated well into the hurdle and kept the momentum so that was the 1 time I jumped it well.

Felt pretty awful both in the morning and during the workout. 4x800 2x400. Went 2:10, 2:11, 2:13, 2:15, 64, 63. Got dropped pretty good in the last 3 intervals. I'm hoping it's just my back or something because I don't think my fitness just magically disappears and reappears. It's just frustrating not being able to know when or why I don't/ do feel good.

Not what I expected. I thought I felt pretty good but through the race didn't feel it. Super suprised that I did as well as I did seeing how terrible I felt on saturday and today (sunday). I think there is promise for the future after seeing this race.

I get that sometimes. Does it feel like a sharp needle is poking you? For me it usually goes away in a couple of weeks, and usually by changing to a different pair of shoes, I can continue training without the pain.

Glad you were able to get out and run again. I just watched the BYU track meet on youtube. It is too bad you were not able to compete. Congrats to you brother (I am assuming that Josh Erickson is your brother) for 3rd place in the steeplechase. Why didn't Connor Shumway finish the race? and why didn't Conner Mantz finish the mile race? (Seemed a little "gutless" to me.) GREAT race by Cassey Clinger in the mile. This last weekend, there was a 3000 m steeplechase race here in Japan. The winner was a 19-year old college student. I am sending a link to the video. Was that your first and only steeplechase race this year? It looked like you were really uncomfortable going over the hurdles and lost your balance going over. I thought you were going to fall backward a couple of times. You should go back and look at the video.

It looked to me like your last lap was your best. It looked like you had better speed going over the hurdles the last lap and that the momentum kept you going forward without losing your balance so much.

Anyway good race.

You are going to be super great next year. I will be on a mission though next year and won't be able to watch you. Todays race will probably be the last time I am able to watch you run for a while.

Who knows...maybe I will try to run at BYU after my mission.

Yes Eva, This was my first and only steeple race of the year. Earlier in march I was doing the steeple drills, and going over hurdles but coach had me focusing on the 5k at first, then i hurt my foot, so I hadn't gone over a hurdle in probably over a month and a half, much less a barrier. I definitely was very scared of clipping my feet on the hurdles at the beginning so I ended up jumping a lot higher and harder than I would have liked. I definitely need to work on that steeple form, but I'd feel 100x more comfortable racing the steeple again now that I know how it goes.
