Woooo!!!! Makes me look really undedicated.  First post and it is just 4.94 miles.  We had a slacker day today.  We played tag and it was kinda weak cuz only 8 guys played.  It is much more intense when we have lots more people playing.  Still pretty fun.  I have been sick for the past while and after yesterdays workout I needed an easy day.

Today Justin challenged me to carry a big rock the entire run.  I took the challenge and carried it the entire way.  I used my shirt to make a little bag like thing to help me carry it.  It was so tiring.  After the run we had strength training and it was really tiring.  We were supposed to do a tempo run but since I was carrying the rock I just speed up a tiny bit.  It was really great.  The rock weighed about 8 pounds.  It was a really rough run.  I was left in the back and then I never saw the other guys from their tempo turn back so I ran too far.  I ran for about 58 minutes plus strides.

We had a race at Utah Olympic Ice Oval.  It was really fun.  I got a new mile PR.  I got second place on my team.  My foot had been hurting a little bit but it didn't bother me much in the race.  Afterwords on the cool down it was killing so I dropped off early.  It was a really fun race.

We ran the extended mountain run.  It is a pretty hilly path on the side of a mountain.  My foot was still hurting so it was kinda hard but I was able to keep up on the run.  I didn't run on Saturday because of my foot.  Afterwards we went and ate waffles at Lil' Warner's house.  It was a good run and the last mile we were feeling pretty good so we went at a 5:20 pace.

We did a hill workout.  It is a 600 meter hill.  I am one of the top on the team and even though my foot was hurting a bit, it didn't bother me while we were going fast pace for the hills.  The hills were with active recovery for the whole time.  So I was pretty happy with my times.  I did them negative split with 2:03, 2:01, 2:00, 1:59, 1:57, and 1:55.  It was a good run.  We had strength training afterwards and did some sprint things as well as push ups and core stuff.  We also did some lunges and they were really tiring after the hill workout.  Overall a good run and good strength training with a little pain in my foot.

We did an awesome modest run today.  I got chased a few times so I got a few good sprints.  I got tagged the first game because I was on mud so I couldn't juke very well.  So I was bummed that I got tagged.  But the second game I stayed alive the whole time.  I was very sore from yesterday but an overall good day.

We did the Mountain Run today.  It was fun but really hard because two days ago really killed my legs.  When we started I was going as fast as my body would let me but I was falling behind because my legs were so sore.  When they finally warmed up I caught up and had a good run but before it was really hard.  We had strength training today and it was a pretty easy one.  We took an ice bath after that and that was freezing but now I'm feeling amazing.  Tomorrow we have our first interval workout but I don't know how hard I'm going to take it because my foot has still been bothering me a bit.

We did 1000 meter intervals on the track today.  It was really hard.  I hit 3:01, 2:59, 3:01, and 3:07.  The last one was so hard and it was super windy so our coach said that Lil' Warner and I should switch off leading against the wind so that made me go faster than I was able to.  The last one we hit the 400 meter mark at a perfect time.  I was leading that one but it took too much out of me.  So I slowed down after my leading was done.  I hit the 800 meter at 2:27 so that was pretty slow.  Then the last 200 I was dying so I went pretty slow in.  I was exhausted but it felt like a good first interval workout for the year.  My foot was bothering me a little so I iced it a bit and that helped it out.

Had a really awesome run.  Today the normal fast group none of them were feeling good so they were back some.  We did 2.5 miles up in the foothills but we decided to go down so we wouldn't be exhausted for our hill workout tomorrow.  Then Justin, Craik and I started running fast.  We did the first 2.5 miles in 20 min. and then we did the next 5.5 in 33.  We were raging and at some points we were going sub 5:20 pace.  Justin and I did a little more than Craik but it was a tiny bit more.  It was very fun and I felt great except my foot was hurting a little bit.  We had strength training afterwards and our coach owes lots of us chocolate chip cookies because we kept balance for the 1 leg squats while doing arm things at the same time.  The strength training is making us stronger and faster so I'm really excited about racing.

We did 6x600 meter hills today.  It was fun.  My foot was hurting really bad going down but going up was just fine.  Our coach told us to go slower than we could have.  Lil' Warner and I wanted to go 2:00 average but our coach told us to go slower at 2:02 pace.  We still went 2:02 1:58, 2:03, 2:00, 2:00, 2:,00.  We both were tired but not super dead.  We did 15 min of warmup and cool down.  Down hills are the worst.

I have a huge blister on my foot and yesterday's hills just made it worse so it was massive today.  It hurt a ton to walk and run with shoes on.  Barefoot it wasn't rubbing against anything so it wasn't as bad but it was still bad.  My other foot has still been hurting but it wasn't very bad today.  I've been icing it everyday for a week.  Some of us went and played soccer while the others went up the canyon.  My foot wouldn't have survived the canyon so I went with the soccer people.  We got to play barefoot which was amazing for me so it didn't hurt that bad.  Tomorrow I'm planning on doing the workout if my foot doesn't hurt too bad.

We did 45 mins. at 6:00 mins/mile.  My foot was feeling a lot better because I popped my blister.  My other foot still hurt a little bit but not bad.  5 min. warmup and 5 min. cool down.  averaged about 7:07 on the warmup and cool down and paced almost perfectly and averaged 5:58.  It was a solid run.

Did an awesome adventure run full of hills.  We went up to a cool rock formation and then went to an awesome cave.  We then ran back down on the golf course.  It was a struggle going down because of my foot but going up was fun.  We did strength with the sprinters and they all were having major issues doing it while it wasn't a super hard workout.  We have done harder so it would be fun watching them try some of our harder ones.  I iced my foot again and it started feeling better after icing it.

We did hogs backwards today.  It was really fun going up the hills but when we got to the top I was worried about going down it because of my foot.  I was right to be nervous because it was hurting pretty bad and I slowed down a ton.  Some of the guys beat me down to bottom by about 4ish minutes.  Normally I am able to keep up with them on runs like this but I just couldn't because of my foot.  I took a shortcut back so I didn't get as much miles in but it was only by a tiny bit.  I iced my foot really well today and hopefully it will be doing better by our progression run on Monday.  I really excited for the progression run.

Did Boneville but didn't go out very far because we were supposed to have a core workout at 2:30 so we had to be back for that.  We got back and we didn't see any coaches so we waited a while.  We then went and did the golf course run for the rest of our time.  Galen and I were going a pretty decent pace for the whole thing so we got decent mileage.  Tomorrow we have a hard workout so we didn't want to completely kill ourselves so for the strength training we did "fun stuff".  Which means a lot of different kinds of planks which wasn't actual fun but whatever.

Shout out to Galen for leading us on a run that we had a "Good time" doing.

We were supposed to do a progression run but a random huge snow blizzard came in so the track was packed with snow.  There was a big wind so it would have been hard to run through.  We stayed inside and did spinning.  It was way harder than it should have been.  I was as wet as I would be if I jumped in a pool because of sweat.  My thighs were burning.  I was dying.  It was so hard.  We did it for an hour with some sprints on the bike as well as "no saddle riding" sprints as well as increasing the difficulty of pedaling.  We might do the progression run tomorrow but that will be hard.  I'm excited for it though.

Today we did a modest run.  It was awesome.  The problem was it was still snowy on the ground so I had a hard time juking people.  I got tagged but it was at the very end of the game.  It was really fun.  Afterwords we ran to Mountain Ridge and cheered on the Junior high runners who did there season long run of 2ish miles.  Mountain Ridge track was so easy.  After we did that we came back to the school.  It was a good run even though I was hoping for a progression run.  We have our marroon and Gold meet tomorrow so I'm excited for that.

We had a intersquad meet today.  But they changed it and said that everyone was only running the 400.  I ran a 56.  A new PR.  I feel like I can run a 54 now that I know what I'm doing.  It was really fun.  Then we did a workout and I was feeling really good.  I wanted to go faster but Ryan said to not go as fast as I wanted.  I didn't listen to him on the last 400 interval because Courtney told us she wanted to see us pulling with our arms.  I ran a 63 so that was fun.  We did the golf course for our cool down and warm up.  I am ready to race the mile soon.

Yesterday's strength training killed me and it hurts a ton to move my legs.  I dropped Josh off at practice and then came home because there was no way that I would be able to survive Hogs Hollow.  I came home ate a bagel then decided to go on a slow run.  I went a little under 30 min.  I never want to do that strength training again because it made me so sore.  Two days in a row that I have struggled with a simple slow run.

We met at 7 am today to run because we had our strength workout after at 8ish.  We did extended mountain run today.  It was fun.  My thighs are still super sore from the strength workout we did on Friday so it was hard going down hill.  The up hills were fun though.  I ran for 49 minutes.  It was an enjoyable run.  Strength was really easy today because we are having a Duel meet against Lehi tomorrow.

I'll probably do the 2 mile since my PR is still 10:18. I'm hoping to go around 9:50 if I do it. I will probably also run the 400 or an 800 also. Good luck in your 800 and 4x400 if you do it!

I had a race today so I went to that.  I warmed up with Jamison because we were going to do the 400 and 2 mile.  We did the 400 but I realized I wouldn't have time to do the 2 mile because I was accompanying Russell at his solo ensemble thing.  I did the 400 and ran unofficially 56.77 and then left and did the thing with russell.  After the thing with Russell we went out to eat at Melty Way.  It is a delicious restaurant.  After I got home and went over to the track.  I ran a little bit before the track as a warm up like thing.  Then I decided to run a 5:00 mile pace for as long as I could.  I did it for 1.5 miles but I can definately do better if I don't eat a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich before running.  And I was also still sore from thursdays strength training.  I cooled down at a faster pace but not fast enough for fast miles.  It was a good run overall.

We did a strength training before our run the we went and did a modest run.  I decided that I am never going to try to escape through the bushes.  It is so much easier just juking and running.  And a lot less painful.  I got a few cuts on my body.  And I got caught by Jamison.  I'll probably run some more later tonight.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a hard workout since our race on Saturday is a really chill race.

Today we did an 800 600 400 800 600 400 workout.  It was pretty fun.  I thought I was going to die because my legs were really tired on our warmup.  But the first 800 brought them to life.  I did all of the intervals fastest today.  I ran a 2:21, 1:43, 1:06, 2:22, 1:46, 1:07.  There was a nasty wind on the back stretch so that made it really hard.  I was pretty happy with the workout though.  I felt like my legs are finally being able to start moving again.  They haven't felt very good since our Time Trials and the strength we did after it killed me.  I am finally recovering from that and can barely feel that strength training now.

Shout out to Spencer Smith for letting the kid who is "tapering" beat him in the workout. :)

Some of our team played tag while some of them went on the mountain run.  I stayed and played tag.  We invited the girls to come play with us and they did.  It was really fun.  We also had 2 sprinters who came with us because most of the sprinters went to the meet or didn't practice today.  It was really fun.  We did the golf course afterwords.  We also did strides.  Tomorrow I'm racing the 4x1 mile and the Distance Medley.  I'm doing either the 800 or 1200 in the Medley because Jamison is doing the 400 and Lil Warner is doing the mile and Galen and I don't really care which we do so we will decide tomorrow at the meet.  We are going for the course record on the 4x1 mile and hopefully on the DMR.  It will be a really fun race.

Today we had the cougar relays.  It was really fun.  I raced in the 4xmile and DMR.  I ran the 1200 in the DMR and I had put about 100 meter lead on the 2nd place person.  It was not very fast.  I ran a 3:22.  We won the DMR.  In the 4xmile it wasn't a relay but everyone had 4 people per team run it and just added their times together.  We broke the course record even without 2 of our top four racing in it.  We didn't win first though.  It was really dissapointing but oh well.  I ran a 4:32 and placed 3rd.  Galen ran a 4:36 and placed 4th.  Justin ran a 4:49 and Josh ran a 5:04.  I'll probably go run 4-5 more miles later.

Shout out to Galen for being cool and wearing the same spikes as me.

Went on a 5 mile run on Bonneville tonight with my brother.  While we were running up there we saw Spencer Smith driving somewhere.  We weren't going super fast at the beginning (7:35 pace) but we picked it up some over the next 4 miles so we finished at 35 mins. so an average of 7 flat pace.  It was very hard because my legs could feel the race in them still.  But it was good to go get some miles on tired legs.

We did 1000s today.  We warmed up for 20ish minutes then went and did the workout.  I think our coach made our workout impossible just to see how hard we would push ourselves.  We were supposed to do 4x1000m at our mile pace.  I hit 2:54 the first one 2:56 the second one and on the third I hit 2:59.  Coach saw that we were dying so he had us do an 800 instead of the last 1000.  He told us to go at 2:20 pace.  I was already so dead from the 1000s but I tried to do it.  I ran a 71 second split the first 400 and then I died hardcore.  I ran the 800 in 2:37.  It felt so awful.  Afterwords we did a cool down.  It was a pretty slow cool down but I was dying so I fell a little bit behind.  We went and took an ice bath in the river and many of the guys decided that today was a good day to get initiated.

Shout out to Justin for beating me in the 800.

We had a pretty easy strength training today.  We did Boneville today and it was awful.  I hurt from yesterdays workout so I wanted to do something easy and not fast but everyone else decided to go do Boneville.  We went and found a new trail and it is called Boneville Backwoods.  Jamison and Spencer and I just went the normal trail while everyone else went on that.  On the way back we saw Russell, Seth, and Steven had found a cave up on the mountain side.  It was pretty cool.  We came back pretty quickly and we are all going to be done for it tomorrow in our workout out.  It is 8-10 400's at 66 pace for Lil Warner Galen and I, then 67 pace for Jamison.  Jamison's favorite workout is 400's so he will probably be going at the 66 pace and I am awful at 400's so I'll probably go at 67-68 pace hopefully.  I don't know how I will do since we killed it yesterday and today instead of recovering, yet still getting good mileage, somewhat so that we can actually do speed.

I was extremely tired so I didn't go as far as I had planned.  I was hoping to do 11 miles so I would get 45 miles this week but I ran in the afternoon because I was reffing soccer this morning while the team ran.  I ran up to Bonneville and then decided I was going to do the mountain run.  I went all the way over there and ran some of it then I ran into craik who had also missed the run this morning.  I turned around because he was going back where I was coming from and ran to the end of that then started heading backwards on the Mountain Run.  It was really hot so I was dead and I had already been out in the sun for a while reffing and I had just eaten so I turned back around to head home.  I went home and ended up with 50 minutes and 30 seconds.  It was really tiring but felt good to get the race somewhat out of my legs.  I may do more later tonight.

Today we did 5x800's.  My stomach was hurting so I didn't do it that great.  I ran 6 because Trevor missed one and I paced him on his last one.  I found out that I wasn't going to run at our duel meet.  I was going to do 400's in preparation for the UVU meet on Saturday.  Jamison and I are hoping to qualify for state in the 2 mile.  I think that we can both do it.  I definitely think that I have a good chance because my last 400 when I raced a 9:44 was a 62 so since AF is there the race will be faster and I won't have to lead and have qualifying pace while leading.  I can just follow behind and qualify for state.  Galen is trying to qualify in the mile.

We had a track work out today.  It was 8x400.  I wanted to run faster because I felt really good.  We went 66ish pace on all of them.  I felt like if I pushed it really hard I could have done 63 on all of them but 65 would have been a fast but still semi comfortable.  I felt really good.  I used to not like 400's but now I don't not like any of the workouts.  On Saturday I'm racing the 2 mile at UVU and I'm hoping to qualify for state.  I'm really excited for that.  Hopefully I will be able to.

We have the UVU race tomorrow so it was a really light run.  Lots of the guys went to legacy to run but I had to be back earlier so I stayed and ran at Lone Peak with Steven and Russell.  We went down to AF area and came back.  We ran for 32 minutes and then I did some strides afterwords.  I'm feeling pretty good about racing tomorrow and qualifying for state hopefully.

I'm so pumped.  I qualified for state in the two mile!!!!!  I was really worried because 15 minutes before starting time I got a really bad bloody nose.  I went to try to get it to stop but it wouldn't so I just had to go out there while it was still kind of bleeding.  I had to sniff a lot so it wouldn't drip.  When the race started it had finally calmed down a bit but it still was bleeding a tiny bit.  It hurt my throat so bad in the 2 mile.  I was so happy I was able to get through it.  I went the first two laps with Jamison and Lil Warner but they started falling off pace and my coach said that I needed to qualify today because he needs me in the sprint medley.  So I went without them and started pulling away.  I went up and caught up a guy from salem Hills.  This put me in second place and I was right on pace with hitting 72 second laps.  Mckay Johns was the only one in front of me but at this time (the 5th lap) he was 50ish meters ahead so it felt like he wasn't even part of the race.  I tried to pull away from the Salem Hills guy because one of my coaches said I was a few seconds off pace at 600 meters left.  I started speeding up but my legs did not want to.  So I ended up hitting the 400 meters left mark at 8:26.  I was super mad cuz I thought I wouldn't be able to qualify but I started trying to kick a little bit even though I was dead.  I managed until 100 meters left and then I died/  The salem hills guy passed me and I was gonna slow down a lot but I saw the time on the board so I realized I still had enough time to qualify so I got a little bit more energy and was able to kick it in from 50m left.  I ended up running a 9:34.85 when my nose was bleeding and it was extremely hot so I'm pretty excited for when I feel good and the weather is a little bit cooler.

Some of those 9.76 should be fast miles but I don't know how much so I just put it all in as slow.  But during the track class we weren't sure if we were running but Galen Jamison Craik and Justin all left while we went to get our stuff because we thought we weren't running.  So we did a sophomore run and brought my rock to the sophomore tree and put it in there.  It was really slow and it was 1.54 miles total.  We messed around at the tree for a while then came back.

I waited because we were supposed to have strength training but it didn't happen.  Then Lil Warner and I went up to Bonneville and did that.  It was really fast.  We did it in 49 Minutes and went 8.22 miles so at an average of just under 6 minutes per mile.  We started out going really fast like 5:10ish pace but then calmed down and my calf was on fire so with about 2 miles until the school we took a small 45 second stretching break which helped my calf a lot.  It was really fast and Lil Warner said that he would follow me but then he just sprinted off ahead and set the fast pace for the whole run.  It was brutal.  We saw the girls running on Bonneville also.

My goal this week is to go for at least 50 miles this week since the past few weeks I've been slacking off a lot but that is because of races.

We did a track workout today.  we did 1200 800 800 400 400.  It was pretty good except it was really windy.  They were really fast.  The last 400 our coach let us do it fast so it would stimulate our kick at the end of a 2 mile but it didn't work out for me.  I ran a 69 which is slower than my 800 splits and my 400 meters from the first time.  It wasn't like my kick because I found out that I ran a 64 last lap on the 2 mile on Saturday and the time I ran the 2 mile before I ran a 62.  I have always had a good kick so that really helps me.  I'm taking it easy for Wednesday and Thursday because my coach wants me to qualify on Friday for the Mile.  I don't know how well that will go because right now I'm more used to the 2 mile but I will try.  I'll be running it with Galen and Jamison and Lil Warner.  But they will have run the 2 mile the day before because they are trying to qualify.

Today was a small run because most of the guys are racing today or tomorrow.  We ran down and did the trampoline run and found a weird ball so we stopped to play a weird version of basketball with a ball similar to a golf ball.  It was really fun.

At the tri meet today I wasn't doing anything because my coach wanted me rested so I decided to mess around and do the long jump.  But then after my coach came over and asked if I was sure I wanted to do it.  I had already done it so she was mad.  But oh well.  I did a 13'7" which is awful but I didn't know anything and it is the first time I ever did it.

Did a short run of 35 minutes today because I'm racing tomorrow.  Did a few strides afterword but my nose had started bleeding on the run which was really annoying.  I ran with Jacob Jensen since everyone else was at the meet or sick or busy.  It was a good run.  I may not make my goal of 50 miles this week because my coach had me slacking on the miles because of the race.  But I'll do a decent amount tomorrow and on saturday.

Today at the Alpha Invite I ran the mile and the 800.  I was really worried when I got there because my chest had been hurting when I breathed and it felt like a sickness.  I think that the anxiety before racing got it out of me cuz I felt great during and after the race.  During the mile I felt really good but got boxed in on the first 1 and a half laps so I couldn't speed up as much as I wanted.  I still came across the 800 mark at 2:12 which is qualifying pace.  I then went out to lead the pack of people (everyone except Mckay Johns who was about 40-50 meters ahead of everyone).  I ran the rest of the race alone without people really coming from behind and Mckay too far out infront.

For the 800 I was put in the fast heat with a seed time of 2:02 when my PR was high 2:06.  I ran it after feeling tired from the mile and I ran about a 2:02 which made me really happy.  I was glad but in the race I could feel my legs locking and not being able to move much faster because I was so exhausted.  It was a good race though and I got I think 10th overall.  It was fun stuff.

Josh and I did mountain run today in between sessions of conference.  It was good.  I was sore from racing but it felt good to get out and run.  In General conference I'm learning a lot and am excited for more.  I love and could use all of their inspired messages (especially ones about being humble since I kinda forgot yesterday cuz I was so happy about PRing)

Had a good run from legacy today.  We went to steven's house but he wasn't up so we then went on a new part but we found out it was government property so while we were leaving some guy came up to us and told us that we had to leave.  We left and then got on the mountain run backwards.  We did that and Lil' Warner and I did the mountain run in 11 minutes.  We then went down through the trail to lambert and turned at the church.  We then went back to the park.  It was a good run.

So I woke up  to go to practice but I felt really sick so I didn't go.  I got up and tried to walk but I barely could.  I threw up 3 times and I took a shower.  Afterwords I was laying on my couch when the door knocked and it was some of the people  who had gone to practice.  It was Russell Steven Autumn and Ellie.  I talked to them for 25ish minutes then they left.  I was standing when I was talking to them so I got really tired.

I've been feeling better as the day has been going on so I may try to go run 2-4 miles today.

I'm still recovering from my sickness from yesterday.  My stomach still hurts but I'm not as weak.  I didn't go to practice because I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up with the team.  I went at 10:00 and I felt really sluggish to start.  I did the 3.6 miles in just over 25 minutes.  The cold made it much easier to run in so I ended up going at just over a 7:00 pace.  It felt good to go run after yesterday being so sick.

Today we were supposed to do 5x800 at mile pace but since I've been sick I wasn't expecting to go that fast.  We did the first one and the top group which was lil warner and me came through at 2:20.  It was rough.  The next one I maintained but Lil' Warner got 2:30ish.  Same thing on the next 2.  Then our coach Katie saw we were all struggling so she had us split the last 800 into 2x400's.  We were supposed to hit them at 66-68 pace.  I hit 67 and 67 so I was happy with that.  The workout was really hard since I was just barely sick but I am recovering pretty quickly.

I felt great on the first 5 cuz I hit 65 65 64 64 63  then I started dying because I could feel my sickness coming back up.  Then I hit 66 67 68 70 73. Then coach said I could be done since I was struggling so much.  So I did ten total while Lil' Warner and Jamison did 11.  I felt awful but oh well.  Justin ended up puking afterwards so that was a party for him.  I thought I was but I think I got all of my puking out last week. I was in the Medley today. I ran the 800 for it.  It was rough.  My team gave me a great lead but that made me lead the race.  I was in first until the final 100 when Casey from AF came and outkicked me.  He ran an insane time of about 1:55. I definitely could have pushed harder but I didn't go for it on the last 100. I should have tried more but my team still ran a 3:37 and qualified for state.  So that was good.

I did another good cool down after that. I was mad about not pushing it hard and winning so it was a pretty good speed of a cool down.  It was fun racing and my coach said that he was going to put me in the mile at the Davis Invitational next week and I'm going to qualify there.

Then after we finished when I was about to leave my coach called me and asked where I was. Then I told him and he told me that if girls were becoming more important than track I should reorganize my life. He was joking but it was kinda funny. Then he talked to my date and said that it was all her fault.  She is also a runner. We had the davis race today and I was really nervous cuz prom had made me really tired. So I went up there and I didn't feel good until after the race had started. I got really excited and the awful feeling in my legs and stomach went away. I was in last place for the entire first lap. Then I was in last place for most of the second lap. I came across at 65 the first lap then 2:11 for the second. I knew the third lap was my weakest point so I pushed it hard and moved up a lot of people. I ran a 66 putting me at a 3:17. Then I knew I needed to go if I wanted to qualify so I put on a little bit of speed with 400 left and then even more at each of the 100 meter marks. It was a good time. Official time of 4:20.41

We also did a 4x800 team but we were all tired and it was windy and wet so it was slow. We got 4th and got 8:44. I ran 2:07.

Today we (the sophomores) went up onto bonneville and decided to go up the mountain. We saw some rock outcroppings so we went there. We hiked/ran up there. It was super steep so it wasn't possible to run up all of it but we ran a decent amount of it. It was tiring. We went a little further than the rocks and went to a lone pine tree that was up there. It was a good time. Going down wasn't as fun cuz it was painful on my knees but not too bad. Up hill is much better than down hill.

We had a good workout today. We did 400 300 400 300 400 300 400 300 400 400. I did good until the last one. I hit 63 46 62 45 62 46 63 46 62 68. In workouts I always struggle with the last one. I do fine in races but in workouts I just can't do them. So I have to work on that. But I'll figure it out and get it all good. But it was a good fast workout. I'm really excited for BYU cuz I'm going to go for the school record in the 800 meters. I just need to run two 59's which I think I can do on a fast track as long it is nice weather. It should be a good time. I also am running the 3200 and I'm in the seeded heat of the mile. I'm not going to go that well cuz the 800 always takes it out of me but oh well. It should be a good time. My friends had asked me to pace them for the mile today at our duel meet cuz they wanted to break 5.  They said they wanted me to hit 73 74 74 and then my coach said I had to drop out at that time. I was the leader for the first 2 laps but then my brother came and passed me on the third lap. I hit the laps perfectly at 73, 2:27, and 3:41. (I just put in the time of my friend who ran in it that I was pacing.)  So it was a good time. I did a little warm up and cool down with them so I got some more mileage then the rest of the guys. Had a good race at Region.  My coach put me in the race so I could pace Jamison and try to get him qualified for state by placing top four.  The race started out with Thomas Heaps of Lehi cruising out running around a 66-67 first lap i think.  I came through with Jamison at 70.  We just hung around with the main group and let Thomas run himself out.  Then we had a big group that my coach told me to keep Jamison and I right at the back of the back or maybe a second off the group.  I did that.  It was like that until we caught Thomas then sadly he started fading away.  We kept with the top group until 800 left then Ryan told me to start going and told me to get to the front and try to slow down the front group cuz Jamison was fading.  I did that but they all just went right around me so it was little use.  At 400 left my coaches told me the same thing but there was me in the front sean hagert from lehi and someone else pushing up for first but my coaches said at no cost to lose the lead right now so I had to speed up with them.  My coaches then saw that Jamison wouldn't qualify at the 200 mark so they told me that I needed to go win our team some points and get first.  Then I kicked a little bit and won it even though I wanted to drop out to let another person go to state.  I'm so so so so so sorry Westlake dude that got fifth but my coaches said I needed to get all those points even though I wanted to drop out.  So please don't hate me for that because I had to follow my coaches.

After we did a cool down with AF dudes that ran the 2 mile.  We talked and ran through a muddy field.  Then jumped a short concrete wall but Hagen Harmer hit his shin and it started bleeding so that was sad.  But overall it was a good day except kicking someone out of a spot at state and I feel so bad for that. ;(

Had an awesome time at Region today. First off Huge shout out to Jamison, and Lil warner for qualifying for the mile.  Even huger shout out to Galen who had the sickest kick of all time outkicking Thomas Heaps and Ryan Raff to place 4th and qualify for state.

Then my 800 finally came around after a good amount of warm up.  The first heat went and they called us out to the line.  Then they told us to take 2 steps back.  Then mr. starter went over to where he shoots the gun and someone started talking to him.  He then came and and said lightning delay. AAAAARRRGGGHH!!!! it was so annoying.  We waited 30 more minutes for lightning delay.  So we had to warm up again.  Got a good amount of miles on my 2 warmups combined.  Then they called us back out and we got back on the starting line.  Then we took two steps back and he called us up and then shot the gun..... and sean hagert went down in the first 100 so it was recalled.  Then we did it again and we finally got to race.  It was fun.  I was in last place for the first 250 meters cuz I was so chill and I wanted a more even pace.  I then sped up a little and came across at a 62.  Then I started going and picked off people one by one except I had let myself get too far behind because I was unable to pick off the number 4 place which is what I was going for. Oh well.

Shout out to Connor Baller for an awesome 800 race.

Had some really solid games of tag today.  A sprinter came and played with us so we got into some fast chases.  He tried to chase me down a few times but I hung on just long enough until he died.  I also juked some people which was good and trevor started juking people.  So it was a good time.  Got so good speed from a long chase by multiple people but I gave up.  It was a good time.

Had a workout at 11 but I was reffing soccer so my bro and I couldn't make it.  We did it at around 2:00.  We did a 15 minute warmup of about 2.75 miles then we did 8 400's.  It was supposed to be faster than we have ever done them.  I was supposed to hit 62-64 but it was super rainy and windy so it was super hard.  I hit 64 for all except one of them.  The second to last one was a 65.  It was kind of like doing the workout by myself because I was 6-10 seconds infront of josh. It was really painful but I was glad I was able to do it.  Did the same thing just backwards for our cool down.

Played some basketball during track class.  My team won both times when we were legit playing.  At first we did sprinters versus distance and distance won.  Then we did sprinters plus me versus distance cuz one of the sprinters left and another distance guy wanted to play.  I've been lookin up shin splints cuz my shins have been bothering me and underneath my knee have been really weak.  And I seem to have the symptoms of shin splints so I am taking advantage of my break and am gonna cut my time on my legs and physical activity except for the root beer mile and the 600 meter race against the sprinters.  I may not even do those but I have been looking forward to those for a long time.  I'm hoping that I will recover fast so I can get back into some good training for xc.

Today I ran with American Fork because we needed to discuss the details of Ragnar.  It was fun.  They have a weird run style.  They start out really slow.  Then they pick it up for a bit. Then at 3 miles we stopped stretched and then their coach went off before us.  Then we ran and we picked up the speed a lot.  That is definitely not my style of running.  I just decided to keep a decent speed pace today what I was supposed to do.  I'm excited to run with AF for Ragnar.

I also got new shoes which was exciting.  They are heavier than my other ones so they will take a while to get used to but they feel good.

Today I ran with American Fork. It was fun.  When they go through tunnel things they start shouting and screaming really loud. It's weird.  We did 4 easy miles to get ready for ragnar. We ran with the girls from AF so the pace was relaxing.  I'll get another 7.7 miles tonight at Ragnar and then another 10 tomorrow.  It should be a lot of fun.  Hopefully my cold won't bug me while I run.  We are hoping to win the high school division which I think will happen because our team is super stacked.

When our van got handed off the slap bracelet we were 15 minutes behind davis.  We stayed that way til my leg where I was supposed to run 7.7 miles but I got lost and ran 8.4 miles but I was going faster than the Davis guy so I only lost 3 minutes and I ran .7 miles farther than him.  On this leg BYU's runner also got lost but he ran an extra 2.6 miles so that would stink to be him.

My first leg was at 11:30 last night.  My next leg was at 5:30ish.  It was a 6 mile leg.  It was all a slight up hill except 2 parts there was like a third of a mile down hill.  I got sick of the up hill but still maintained not a bad pace.  It was a lot of fun.

My last leg was so so so so so hot.  I was just glad that my average was below 6:00 because of the heat.  It was just 4 miles it had a slight climb for some of it but it wasn't bad.  But the heat was awful.  Before I had dumped water on me and within 5 minutes it was completely dried up.  It was crazy.  Running in the heat, having a cold, with under 2 hours of sleep, and not having full leg strength was really hard but was a lot of fun with the AF guys.

Shout out to Mckay Johns who even though he doesn't have a blog he ran an 8:40 2 mile in during his 4 mile leg.  He was flying and was going as fast as our car at points.  For a small portion he was going 3:40 pace which is insane.

We had the Kaysville 5k with my family today for the fourth of july.  It was fun.  I got there and saw a bunch of Davis kids were racing so I was bummed cuz that meant I wouldn't place as good.  We started off and there was a pack of 4 of us that went out plus some little kid who sprinted the first 100 meters.  We had already started to seperate a bit by about 400 meters. It was Justin Holt, Camren Todd, Logan Mckay, and me.  Justin holt is some 29 year old that was sponsored.  After about a mile in it was just us four then Justin and Camren went farther ahead and Logan and me were together.  They stayed ahead the rest of the race but at that time Logan was leading me.  Then I pasted him trying to catch the others but they were too far ahead.  So I was about 30ish meters ahead of Logan for the rest of the race and I finished about a minute behind the winner.  The course was a bit long but just barely.  My shins were hurting a bit but not a ton until I jogged the course again and then my shins hurt so I only did 2.8 mile cool down cuz I cut the course a bit on my cool down. Then my family went to my uncles house and did a badminton tournament which I won.  So that was fun.

So I have been gone at AFY the whole week and I was unable to train while I was up there.  So this has been my first run for this week.  Up at camp we walked and adventured a decent amount so I wasn't completely un-active but I just never specifically ran.  AFY was the greatest experience ever.  It was super spiritual and super fun.  6/8 boys that were in my group ran cross country.  There were 4 from Lone Peak that ran, one from Riverton, and one from American Fork.  Our group was super cool so that made it really fun.

Today we ran hogs.  We didn't go super fast cuz it was just me justin, craik, trevor, steven, and for the first 2 miles Josh.  After 2 miles Josh turned around because he wasn't feeling good. We went to the top and waited for steven a bit then ran down and went to sliding rock but we walked the hill up to sliding rock because we were lazy.  We didn't go down it but we did get a drink.  Then we ran back.  It was a good run overall.

Today we did Middle Spring.  It was pretty awful cuz my knees hurt for the first part of the run but then I caught up once my knee had warmed up. My calves were really tight.  Then my shin started hurting and then I slipped and hit my shin and hand hard on some small rocks.  I got a little cut up but it was mostly the hit on my shin that hurt.  Not a good run. We also did a light strength training.  I'm probably going to go on a bike ride later today and do some more core.

Today we did the first part of hogs but then continued on a different trail and went to suncrest and ran down that hill back to the park.  It was a really good run.  I felt so much better then yesterday.  My calves were really tight but it was ok because it wasn't that hard of a run. My knees and shins didn't hurt during the run so that was amazing.  Now I'm getting pumped about running again since I wasn't hurting so bad.

Today we had a hill workout.  It was hard because Lil' Warner wasn't there so I was leading it alone except the first one one of the JV kids, Seth Ririe, managed to keep up for the first 500ish meters but then he had to walk the rest of the hill.  But overall a good workout with consistent times of 2:29, 2:30, 2:29, 2:30, 2:30.

After we went to help coach ryan move stuff from one model home to another.

Today we raced the Alpine 5k as a finish to the xc camp.  It was awful.  I wasn't feeling that good and my nose started bleeding right before the race. Then we started and it was pretty much lp xc people and Patrick parker from af in front right away.  Then we went through the first mile and it had gotten to patrick galen jamison me justin. Then we went a little further and at the top of the hill patrick and galen took off.  The rest of us were back a bit but they put some space on us.  Then it was us all going but I tried to keep the lead off of Jamison and justin but it just tired me out and then with 50 meters left Jamison put on the speed and outkicked me.  Justin also almost outkicked me but I barely beat him.  But overall a pretty bad race.

We have another two a day.  We are running squaw peak tonight which will be fun. This morning we ran 3 easy miles and while we were running we saw our coach biking.

Well coach Ryan wasn't able to come tonight so we didn't get to do squaw peak.  So instead we did a hill workout.  It was rough.  I had been helping at my friends eagle project and ate a bunch of junk food right before so the hill workout was really hard.  I still did decent because I do better in the night then the morning.  I ran 2:25, 2:27, 2:29, 2:30, 2:34.  I died the last one but it's fine.  Shout out to craik for running a 2:28 on the last one and Justin for running 2:31 on the last one and beating me.

Nothing too fast.  It was just 8 solid miles.  My legs hurt while running so I'm going to ice them.  I'll probably do some core later tonight.

Did 2 miles in the afternoon at like 2:00. Just trying to be ready for the transition from morning to afternoon in the heat runs.  Solid 2 miles though.  My shins didn't hurt which was really good but it was hot.

In the night I biked from my house which is right near Lone Peak and went down the Murdock canal down to Timpanogas high School.  It was a nice ride.  The way there I biked for 32 minutes and it is 9 miles so I was going 16.9 miles an hour.  Then on the way back I did it in 29 minutes so I was going just over 18 miles an hour.  It was a really nice ride.  I did it faster on the way back because I didn't know exactly where to go once I got off the murdock canal.

I also did a bit of abs but nothing too intense.

Well after that crazy week last week we are settling down a bit.  But we did do Squaw peak today.  It is a 4 mile hill.  It was really fun but tiring.  I was a little bummed because our coach told us his best time doing it back when he was in high school and it was 27:30ish.  I ran a 32:03.  It was a lot of fun though.  If I knew how it was I could have gone faster and raced up it so I'm guessing I could have gotten around a 31:00 but still that's no where near my coach was.  Then we ran down it and went to the bottom.  Then our awesome LPXC booster club made us a breakfast that was really good.

After we did a cool down and went to the canyon to ice bath.  Craik and I found an awesome spot that massaged your legs while icing them so it was pretty awesome.  Pumped for Grass Relays.

Then after that we went and did 3x400.  I hit 67, then 65, then 62.  It was really tough.  It was active recover after each thing plus warm up and cool down so we got lots of mileage.  Then I had to go ref some soccer games which got me about an extra mile.  But I'm not counting it on the blog.  Gonna do some hard strength training cuz I have slacked off a little bit on it.

Did a modest run today.  I ran around the lake a decent amount of time so I got good mileage.  Plus I got a lot of fast mileage cuz I chased spencer for a bit and seth chased me for a long time.  It was good.  Then we went on a cool down but I had to turn back a bit early cuz I had to ref soccer. I reffed U15 so I had to run a decent amount cuz they were really agressive. But I didn't count it.  Gonna do more core today.

Pre race norm. Today I had to do a 6 hour block of spanish only which was tough.  I went to my friend's who was also doing it and we played super smash bros. and shouted at each other in spanish which was fun. Then we went and played some soccer which got me more mileage.  Then we had the pasta party and we played football and the juniors were the supreme team.  We beat the other dudes which was a lot of fun.

Got to the race and cheered on the JV.  Then watched Josh my brother race in the 7th man varsity race.  Then warmed up feeling a bit bad but not terrible.  Warmed up while Craik was running who had a 200 meter lead on second place.  Then we started off about a minute before Justin finished his leg, in first.  We got out, one guy pushing the pace way to hard so I just chilled back.  We got to the first hill and I was in 5th, passed 2 people going up the hill, then on the next hill which was right next to it I took the lead. Then just let myself go down the hill.  Then just went around the course.  At a mile and a half in I got a bad side ache but I had a good lead on the other guys that it was fine and I was able to keep a decent lead.  Then on the last hill my side ache finally went away and was able to cruise up the hill and down it to the finish.  Not the time I wanted but I was happy, first race back I won in my division. So I was happy about that.  Then I did a 17 minute cool down, then decided to go with Jamison and galen on their cool down.  Got a total of 6 miles cool down and it felt really good. I'm excited for bob firman.

Good time today.  I finally feel like I'm coming back and getting energy.  I was able to kill the workout.  We did 7x800.  It was really hot so it was tough and the grass was a bit muddy so it slowed it down plus a U turn but it was really good.  I ran 2:27, 2:25, 2:26, 2:25, 2:24, 2:25, 2:20.  I led most of them after about 200 meters in.  I felt good.  Jamison didn't look like he was feeling too good and neither did Galen but they still did pretty good for not feeling all that great.  Also did some strength with Courtney cuz she doesn't believe that we don't do it at home.

Had some good chases in the game.  Spencer King chased me for a while and some others did as well so I got a lot of fast miles.  It was fun. We went a mile out then to the pond then did tag then did 2 mile cool down.  Felt pretty good.  I stayed clear of all bushes cuz I hit some poison ivy a while ago and it has bothered me for a while. Craik also got stung by a bee so he might end up swelling up really big again.

Was supposed to be 8 easy miles but we ran up the canyon at a nice pace with craik in the back so he didn't push the pace. Then we were at the top, let people stretch then we saw amanda coming down and we went down with her.  She was going 5:50 pace so we went that pace.  When we reached the bottom we regrouped the guys cuz we lost a lot of them while Amanda ran back to the school.  My knee was tightening up and it started hurting a lot.  It tightened a ton in that break so I had to walk a bit and then I kind of jogged in.  I iced it and rolled up above it hoping it will get better.

Do you realize that if you'd run your first mile slower you'd have been faster overall?

You ran 4:48, 5:12, 5:07

If you'd instead ran 5:00 you could have repeated the 5:00 and come home in 4:48 for a total time of 15:22. That would have put you close to top 20 and shirt-worthy.

From Zack Ericksen on Thu, Nov 26, 2015 at 10:16:47 from 172.56.39.74

Our coach told us to race from the front and also the beginning part is a crazy near sprint so after that I probably settle into around 4:58 pace. And I've just struggled this year when I don't get out hard. So I decided to chance it and it worked well enough.

From Holt on Thu, Nov 26, 2015 at 11:28:15 from 174.52.19.207

That start is just blazing. Way to hang in there after. Congrats to you guys. Super stoked for your trip to nationals - it's going to happen; I can feel it!

From Glory in the long run on Thu, Nov 26, 2015 at 11:59:54 from 98.202.15.47

I guess your coach knows you well enough to know you can handle an early sprint and then settle in. But in reality this always leads to a slower race. The sad fact is most highschoolers all do sprint out and then they all do run slower than they could. So I understand the strategy of not having to come from behind because that takes personal wherewithal, but as far as actually racing faster, it's really not that smart.

Good race. Started with warm up. Then introduction with the team. Then we went straight to the starting line. We still had 20ish minutes before the race so we jogged around a bit. Then we did some strides. Toed the line and the gun went off. We got out hard but not hard enough. It went out really fast so at the first turn we had to slow down but then got through and saw jamison just up infront on the other side. So I ran to catch up with him and decided to pass him and go so I was leading our team. I came through mile at 4:50 then we hit the some mud and a hill which slowed my next mile down and came through at 10:10. Then I kept that same pace because I came through the finish at 15:58. It was good cuz it was a hard course with the mud and this is the first race I feel like I'm starting to get my healthy body back. Shout out to talon garek and connor for qualifying for footlocker nationals!!

I think you put your time wrong. You did run 15:58, not 16:58.

Glad you feel like you're getting your healthy body back, that's always a good feeling.

Ran in my Nike's from nationals.  Felt decent.  Shins hurt as well as back.  Deja vu tag then on the ice then golf course.  Also awkward realization that I got 19th to last at nationals while Josh had a killer race and ran first on our team and got 64th overall.

Ran down to the pond and then back.  Took a quite cold ice bath on accident... Ready for the break though. My back has gotten worse after nationals and my shins started up again so I'm ready for relaxation.

First run after the break.  Had an ericksen classic of getting a bloody nose but that's not all, I had a bloody nose from both sides.  Felt great the first 3.5 miles but then after we stopped to wait for a couple people my body stopped going and my shins hurt then.  But first 3.5 miles felt great.  Feel like I'm in better shape then I was during xc season.

Afternoon.  Played balencesto with some of our xc team plus Jacob Warner and Connor baller.  It was a good time. Pretty hard core basketball.

Solid run today.  Ran through the snow and it went up past my knees for some parts.  Didn't flat out run the other days but I did do some quality excercise.  Some basketball plus other stuff.  Got a pull up bar for christmas and I'm gonna start using that a lot. Also gonna get a good workout when we do our PG v Lehi V LP xc kids basketball game.

Actually felt decent today even though we were going faster than usual.  Started at legacy, ran to Lone peak, checked out the pond, then ran back on alpine highway.  That got us to 6.6 then we went half way to the dumpster and back to get .5 more.  avg. pace was 6:38.  last .11 miles was  at 4:35 pace kicking it in.

Didn't feel that great today.  Later in the day played some ball with Lehi and PG which was a good time.

Hurt today. Only went 3.25, gonna take a break from running, but while running would be happening I'm gonna do strength and core stuff.  Trying to get healthy again but it is just not going my way.
