Ran to the gym (it's about 2.55 away), worked on elliptical hell for 30 min, then ran home and around the hood for a total of 7 miles all together. I hurt a bit in that tendon. BEAUTIFUL morning!
It's the 1st of June! Today is gonna be a great day!
6.5 with Merri. We did a loop in the river bottoms. Awesome. We got to see the sunrise and awesome views. We kept the pace pretty moderate so as not to burn out our legs -Merri did 10 all together and I need to save my legs a bit for the candy bar 5k tomorrow.
Nestle 5k! (3.1 Miles) 00:20:03, Place overall: 6, Place in age division: 2
Total Distance
3.10
Oh my!!!!! I almost cracked the 20 min time. I think I said just 2 days ago that I felt it was close. I missed it by 3 seconds! It's going to haunt me, but I am happy because this means my fitness is improving!
OK the Nestle 5k is HUGE! I walked up to Springville High School and looked like a deer caught in the headlights. There was easily 800 people there -to race... ummmmm dang! The starting line was even more intimidating. Immediately spotting 2 SUU track and field college athlete gals as well as several other Southern Utah county 'elites'. Remember the other day when I blogged about changing my mind set? Well this was my test. I had to reach into my mind and believe that it didn't matter who was there. I am capable of doing what I put my mind too.
There was a lot of kids at the front of the start line which I think is a bad idea. It causes major havoc. Weaving at the start is not one of my favorite things.
Mile 1 split: 6:33 McKenzie sneaks up behind me! I love her! This gave me a total BOOST! I clamped onto her pace and tried to keep with her. Seems like last summer we ran pretty much the same pace in all our races. FUN!
Mile 2 Split: 6:44 GIANT HILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to die. McKenzie is PASSING PEOPLE on the hill. HA HA HA! Not Lily Wheatfill. NO WAY! I am not the best hill runner. I knew that I would recover after the hill and I did. That is the steepest hill I've ever run in a 5k..... ever.
Mile 3 split: 6:10 Fastest split and in the last mile. This is called me repeating over and over in my head "faster turnovers, faster turnovers". Yes, I talk to myself at times when I run, and it works.
.10 split: 35 seconds. I saw the clock closing in at 19:54 and I surged as hard as I could. So hard. To a 4 second miss to get under 20. I almost did it..... so close.
Today I shaved 43 seconds off my 5k time in 7 days on a harder course. I finished only 70 seconds behind 2 collegiate athlete women, and I am just a 31 yr old Mom of 4. I don't feel to shabby about the things I can accomplish. -even if I missed my goal by 3 seconds. I think it's okay to feel proud at times.
58 min elliptical. Chatted with Roy (roids) before I left the gym about the nestle 5k. I guess there was around 2,000 runners there. I under guessed how many people ran. Roy ran it in 32 min. Pretty good for a competitive body builder. He's huge.
Came home and ran 4 miles on the river trail. Some teenage punks nearly took me out of this life a 1/2 mile into my run. They blasted through a stop sign and around the corner that little old me happened to be crossing. Those dumb asses.
I didn't want to run far or fast today because my right underfoot hurts. Would you expect anything less from me? Something always hurts on me these days :) 4 miles in 28 minutes.
My training has been kind of unstructured and all over the place the last 3 months since coming back from injury. I decided this weekend it's time to train for the 10k and get a good training program going the next four weeks. I also am interested in trail running the next two weeks to give my legs and feet a softer surface break.
Next race: Freedom run 10k, July 4th Provo. Goal: sub 40
25 min elliptical, weights, worked core. River trail loop twice=7 miles. A bug flew up my nose, there were a lot of people on the trail today.
Bonnie sent me a 10k training plan last night, today called for a 30-60 easy run. 8:20 pace. I tried to keep it easy, but that pace felt a little to easy, I kept it more at an 8:07 and that felt easy but better. I'm excited to train for the 10k these next few weeks.
8 miles on the tread with sprint intervals 2 min @ 6:15 pace followed by 7:41 1 min 30 sec recovery in between. I wanted to chat with Julie and her new bff Jeff but I was laughing to much to sprint. So I had to earphone it. I have to do sprints on the TM or I just won't stick to the pace. I can tempo outside well tho.
Then....
3 more outside miles which killed me a bit. I was just dead from the 8 miles of sprint on offs. My watch died half way through. At least it wasn't my music that died today. Yesterday my ipod was dead and my gigabeat died half way through my run. I should start charging my things the night before. Lazzzzy Lily.
Just took it easy today and gave my legs a break. Elliptical hell for 60 min, ran 2 miles. Down 6 lbs. want to loose 10 more before SGM. Then my neighbors stops by with cocoa bean cupcakes last night. Mmmmkk....
11 miles with Merri. First 6 miles were an out and back in the fields towards the hari krishna temple. That place is trippy looking. Besides the dog that barked and approached us, and the pheasant that startled the breath out of us, things went pretty smoothly. We dropped water at the corner so at 6 miles we stopped and drank and ate Merri's beans. Then ran 5 more for a total of 11 miles. And that ain't no beans....
Free weights at home.
I'm feeling the hunger setting in from the longer run already.
8 miles running up canyon road and back down.Breathtaking views. Major wind on the uphill forced me slower. After I turned around, I was able to cruise the downhill. I think running up and down hills makes for a stronger/quicker runner.
I took a cool down walk around my block. I was a spitting fool. Merri, I spit in front of your house a time or two. Hope you don't mind! ha ha
50 min ellitpical, then 7 miles on the river trail loop. Here I sit 4 hours later and I'm wondering what the hell was I thinking doing that much cardio today. Pshhaw!
I am evil. If I see people up ahead on the trail, I speed up and pass them. It's kind of a game in my head for me. Speed work in disguise? My last mile, I saw 2 neighbors up ahead and it was Merri's hubby and their next door neighbor Larry. Yeah, I passed them too. See, it's a game to me! I'm crazay!
Today was a speed work day. 8 miles on the tm -sprint intervals. 7:52 pace to a 6:18 pace. Got to 4 miles in 27:15, 5 miles in 33:07, 8 miles in 53:45. Lily be nimble, Lily be quick, Lily kick booty and run faster than you lick. Durrr I'm silly. I am loving the 10k training schedule Bonnie sent me. I already see and feel improvements in both body and mind. 10k and 5k training is more about speed + some endurance. And that is what I like.
So my 3 brothers are running the Spanish Fork Speedy Spaniard this year on July 25th. Well of course I run that race each year. Don't worry, I'll blow all 3 of them out of the water. Even my bro that can sprint super fast. He has no endurance for 6 miles. ha ha. GOING DOWN!!!!!!!!!!! Chicked by yo sister!
Hello Long run!! I love long runs! Besides speed, endurance is my next fav thing about running. It can be hard and I really like to take on hard things.
Ran with Merri out in the west fields 12 miles. Kind of scary, we were intimidated by dogs 3 times. One dog was a full sized rotweiler that came running and wasn't chained. Scary. Can you say time to get a crack torch sized pepper spray? They don't believe in chaining or fencing their dogs out there in BFE.
Good run, great convo's. I totally love my runs with Merri. We are two pea's in a pod. Goes by quick!
41 min elliptical hellaciousness. Worked core. Free weights. Drove home and got the garmin on. Then:
Hill repeats. Literally. Ran up a rolling hill and down the other side, turned around at the bottom and back up. Did this about 6 times. Then ran a tempo of sorts for 2 miles until I got to canyon road. Ran up canyon road, (very big long hill) kept a 7:45 pace all the way up. Turned around and came down at a 6:30. Hills hills hills. I've got your hills.
I'm thinking about running the Lehi round up 5k this Saturday. Just for racing fitness and fun.
elliptical for 1 hr 25 min. I am trying the every other day running plan, so my beat-up, 6 min mile running body can get a rest in between days. I hurt some days and I can't figure it out. I want to go back to being 25 again. Hmmpph!
13 mile run with Merri and Ali. Our neighbor Tamalama showed up at our 8 mile mark. This was a great route with a lot of rolling hills. Flat the last 2.5 miles. I love running with people! I am a tired girl now. I'll need a nooner today. :)
Tonight I get some GREAT entertainment. I get to watch my two oldest boys perform with their break dancing class. Right on.
Sunday I'm leaving to Lake Powell until thursday. I plan to run 4-5 each morning in the city of Page, AZ. Normally I would just take a running break on vaca, but since I'm coming back and racing the Freedom 10k on the 4th of July, I better keep some bounce in my legs. I'll take it easy while I'm gone. Yay for vacations from everyday life!
I'm on vacation in Page AZ (lake powell) and normally I would not take the time to write this until tonight. But, I saw the most awesome thing this morning. I ran a trail called Horseshoe bend. It was soft red sand, and a straight shot of vert up then evens out, then decline. At the end of the trail is a giant bluff overlooking the great Colorado river. And in the middle is a giant rock that looks like a hershey kiss. It makes the Colorado form a U like a horseshoe. You are up so high and it makes your stomach slightly quesey. But it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I had teary eyes and my heart thumped! The sun was just rising and it was awe inspiring! I found myself wishing I had pocketed all of my running friends and taking you along with me. I know you all would have felt the same things.
There were a few runners on the trail. I felt proud of myself as I was not in my trail shoes and I flew past most of them even in road shoes. A few men were so nice and gave me words of encouragement as I passed them. My vert pace was around a 9:50, my downhill pace was a 6:35 avg. I sat in the motel parking lot and emptied red sand from my shoes and I felt so happy. We live on a magnificent planet!
