All my miles are slow, I not sure what the distinction is of the above. I am joining this blog in an attempt to be just a little more like Nick. So, I will send out a Ping and see if I get a response.
Ran 6 today. 1-8:27 2-8:19 3-8:58 4-8:21 5-8:10 6-8:26 avg 8:29 as usual
Today was actually the first I've felt good in many weeks. Busted nut on Left is still distressing quite a bit.

Ran 4 today only because of signing up for this blog, so it is having an effect already. Thanks for making this forum a positive place.
Today was a blizzard in the am, thats why I ran at noon, beautiful. Pace was 8:29 8:30 8:02 8:02. And as a bonus nobody stopped me to ask me if I needed help.
Is the only way to get faster doing sprints? Or can I just think I'm fast and get faster? Ha Ha. Welcome any advice? What is the minimun mileage weekly to get stronger at a half marathon?

| Ran 5.5 today. 7:59 to 8:18. Felt relatively good until mile 5 which was uphill. That seems to be one of my weaknesses. But downhill is always easier right? I am increasing my general work out distance to try and get some stamina and less pain in my groin ligaments. | |

| This was a big run for me. I haven't really embraced the "long run" on Saturday before. I decided to go out slow and stay slow and end slow. Just trying to build some endurance. Is this the right way? It was a good run overall. Beautiful morning. One big hill in the mid run. Still sore in the inner thigh, but not crazy. time 1:25:55 avg 8:34 8:13 to 8:57 | |

| Just over 5 miles. avg 8:20. Very painful this morning for some reason. Side ache for nearly all of the miles. I think I just went out too fast and didn't have any nutrition to fall back on. Maybe the fact I was on call last night had something to do with it. A nurse told me I looked like the most recent James Bond though, so life is still good I guess. She is legally blind however... | |

| Today was an overall fast run for me. 08:10 avg. 8:24, 8:46 mostly up then the last 3 mostly down 7:45 8:02 7:52... felt good but I couldn't have sustained that much longer. Not bad for a coffin boy though so I am relatively happy. Happy Birthday to Nicholas. | |

| I went 6 with average 8:29. miles 3,4,5 avg 8:05. I was sore but happy to get some in because I havent run for 6 days and I stayed up all night seeing some ER patients in the hospital. I did hike 9 miles on Saturday in Goblin valley. It was nice. I'm wondering if I only run 3 days a week but at least 5 miles, am I doing any good compared to just running my 4 or so with one long run. | |

| treadmill while on vacation. I'm not sure I will ever get on the treadmill again. only 2 miles but at least it was something. on saturday I watched the leaders of the slc marathon run by at 25 mile mark... and when I say running they were absolutely flying. I am a different creature. Anywho, I will try to push for a longer run monday to get ready for a the Ogden half . Interestingly I am tapering down the running instead of increasing the mileage, maybe I should embrace the trend. | |

I just can't seem to run any faster on the uphill segments. Overall, a fun bit of excercise. I will try and do a long run Saturday.

| Good run today up 45th, around Old Mill on Wasatch, then back home through holladay blvd. 1:25:19 avg 8:32 My fastest mile was number 8 in 7:35, funny thing was this was only because a sprite 50ish year old asian woman started running with me. She kept saying "I hope I don't slow you down" and I kept saying "don't you worry, you are kicking my butt." She just moved to SLC from New Hampsire and ran Boston last week in 3:32. I had to gracefully peel off after a mile or so, soI could start sucking my usual wind, but it was fun to run with and be pushed by someone for a while. Felt pretty good until hill at mile 9 1/2. | |

| Painful miles today. Average 8:14. But I didn't feel good, and I needed a two mile potty break. Thank goodness for construction sites. I have developed a love for the green "port a john" that seems out of touch with a good healthy life. It is so interesting to me that excercise feels so different from day to day. I am becoming more convinced that it is based on sleep and maybe more importantly the right nutrition, neither of which I have a great handle on yet. | |

Good run today. First 3 miles relatively uphill on 39th south then over to Millcreek canyon road, then to 33rd. 1:11:49, avg 8:21. I've been happy incorporating longer runs into the regimen. Previous to last year I had never run more than 4 miles. It's been an eye opener that my body and mind allow me to do this.

| Started running before 6am. This is a miracle that hasn't happened in over a year. I'm not sure if this is a good event yet or not. Will see how the rest of the day goes. Beats tossing and turning in bed though. Just over 5 miles. avg pace 8:13 (aided by 2 downhill miles). | |

| avg pace 8:28. time 1:13:12 Nice run up 45th to Wasatch Blvd then around old mill. The weird thing is I got very hungry about mile 6. I dont think I have ever felt hungry before while running, usually just slightly nauseated. But I wanted a sandwich. Anyway, I stopped short of the 10 mile plan for lunch. Next long run will be the Ogden half marathon. | |

This was a great race, because it was a personal best in the half. I finally passed the 1:50 mark. Crushed this one with a 1:44. I was really happy that I could average 7:55 per mile. I didn't really beliveve I could do that. Also, Huntsville is the hometown, and I was able to run with my good brothers. Brother Nicholas killed his first marthon in 3:30. Congrats.

Last night was a father son sleep over in the moutains around Park City. Of course the night was filled with a disaterous "try to set up a tent" experience which I finally found the culprit was a broken bar to the maintent pole. I was rescued from this by another who decided he wasn't sleeping over and I borrowed his tent. Will slept well. I slept well with a little help from my friends (Ambien and Ibuprofen).
Breakfast at the crack of dawn then it was a race to depart. Also, felt the urge to run but the heat and breakfast of sausage, hash browns and eggs was kicking in at 1.5 with cramping results. Anywas I limped 4 instead of the planned 6 and averaged 8:21

| Today was a near disaster. I would have called search and rescue if I had a cell on me. I havent run for a while but really wanted to get in a good one today. So I thought I would do the 8 mile circle up 45th to wasatch blvd, around old mill and back home along holliday blvd. I am sore from waterskiing and still jetlaged. It was hotter than expected and I didnt get an early start because I was helping sister sarajane with packing her moving van. I never stopped going up 45th which is the 1st time for me except I was moving slower than my 8 year old could walk it Im sure. Anyway I really started groin and thigh cramping and dehydration about 4 and half in. The rest was torture some walking some running. Finally made it home since no one would rescue me. Nick if this happens on the McKenna Beach trail you will have to come back and rescue me out of the lava fields. | |

| Very hot but very cool race. I ran this one on the advice of my brother Nicholas. Plus Ogden is in my old stopping grounds. First mile is mostly uphill on a single track trail. i made the mistake of getting trapped in behind a lot people who ended up walking part of it. hard to get in any kind of pace. the rest of the race was beautiful on the trail, but i was feeling very sluggish from mile 3 to finish. Just haven't figured out how to increase the pace in the heat and late start (3 pm). However it was a great confidence boost just to have keep going when I didn't feel great. avg about 8:23 | |

This race really was more like 11 plus K. Felt good. Started out slow because I knew the first 3 miles was mostly uphill. Accomplished my goal of finishing in the top half (approx 230 runners) and more importantly never stopping running even on the long stretch of Big Beach sand running. | This was a beast, but a fun one. Brother Nick said we would try something new, but didn't give any other info. Soon enough I found myself on a trail going up one of the beautiful mountains in Huntsville and making my way to the top of North Ogden divide. I'm glad I didnt know where his destination was or I mentally would have pussed out a bit. Anyway the pace was slow due to me but a great mix of up and down and great scenery. Wish you could have been there velveeta. 1:40. Thanks bro for the hospitality and pancakes.

| I went on a late afternoon run as soon as I could break out of hospital. Didn't feel great, but never do on evening runs. I did however have a nice lady pull by me and tell me she knew it was me because of my bowlegged gait. haha havn't been told that in 20 years. | |

| Ran in a delightful blizzard this am. The whole way in 2 to 4 inches of snow. Had some cool shades/goggles on until mile 3 when I just couldnt see anymore. Maybe I'll just take up snowshoeing. avg 8:50 | |

| did the big titty loop in a slushy cold wet snowy midmorning run. slow and slippery at almost 9 minute mile avg, total 1:20:30ish. Easy breathing run with frozen butt cheeks. It's interesting that I enjoy these long runs so much. It's either a reflection on the general dissatisfaction I have with the boringitude in my general life or it actually does something mentalphysically to me that is somewhat of a high, or it is purely the desire to cause pain to myself or... the other interesting thing is that I feel that I should somehow be congratulated when I finish one, but part of me knows that by in large there are few who appreciate the mental stuffing this takes to do when limited by the inherent wussitudes of life imprinted in my DNA. | |
