I wore a tech tee that drapes and it was just too hot. I needed a tank. At one point I contemplated stripping but then thought those around me would frown :) Good to run beside Marlin and his beautiful Wife - Mauri (body felt great other than too warm) |

Nice to have such GREAT friends to take care of you. Don't feel it at all right now or when walking. I will ice, stretch and ice some more. keep miles a little lower while I ease into running again. Ran 9 @ 9:32 pace then finished the last 2 miles 8:32 then 8:22 pace ~ realized I still had plenty of fuel in the tank. That's always a good feeling - also no knee issues. Felt my left hip tighten for a few miles then it seemed to loosen back up. Over all, beautiful, soaked run in Oregon! Enjoyed the rolling hills and country side (also, nice to have Rex as my co-pilot) |
Brooks Ghost 4 Miles: 17.00 |

Salt Lake City Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:51:04 | | Amazing, beautiful weather. Treated the run like an every day run, kept a nice 8:20-8:30 pace. Talked with people along the way, sang to my music, walked the water stations. GU'ed @ mile 5 and 9...not paying attention :). Sprinted up State Street - and through the finish...fun to pass people when I decided to run a little faster. Over all - what a great, fun run today!! Way to build my confidence - so much energy afterwards too (need to learn how to race I think). Very pleased with the day. Still have a shin splint...lower left leg. |
Brooks Ghost 4 Miles: 13.10 |
|
| | outside in the sunshine - 42 degrees - even pace of 8:50 |
| | Ran with the ladies today - slug is what I felt like. Excited for the big week with big miles! |

| | 7 hill repeats @ gym 5 up 2 down |
| | at the gym on TM - 8:39 average pace |
| | Beautiful day! Ran with Shelley, Alana and then Deborah joined us for the first 10 miles. Rex and girls were our aide station ~ ran out towards Shelly and back. Shin really hurt, but was able to make it. Had an average pace of 9:16 - for a total of 3:05 hours out running :) Tough last 2 miles...really hurt afterwards. hips, knees, etc. ice bath helped with that. |
| | ran early with alana ~ felt shin, but doing much better |
| | beautiful morning ran freeman/river loop - 8:42 pace, so comfortable at that pace - no music, wore my compression socks :) |
| | 74 degrees when I ran this afternoon! Beautiful, yet tough for a heat run :). Average of 8:50 pace for first 10 ~ met up with Emma to run a mile around the block (11:41 pace) and then finished my last mile around the neighborhood! Whew, salt block when I was done ~ but amazing day for Mothers Day! |
| | bright and early therapy with Alana!! Great way to begin the week | |
| |
I have been sick for a few days, tried speed work out ~ thought I was going to loose it all on the TM @ gym , went home ~ |
| | little shake out run around freeman park - both directions - 8:28 pace |
| |
all of me felt great ~ wanted to do 20 but my shin was really sharp and crunchy :( ended up calling rex to come scoop me. I struggled with walking around church - kept leg up, advil, ice and icy hot on the outside. Soaked in hot epsome salt bath at night - feels so much better! | |
| | Early morning therapy with Alana! Shin a little sore, but cannot believe how much better it feels today. I will stay on the advil and icy hot. Also, have iced this morning, I will at noon, after school then again tonight. Then I like the idea of epsome salt bath ~ how nice! |
| | ran six hill repeats....four up and two down |
| | ran with Shelley & Deborah ~ just before the storm...few rain drops ~ nice 8:58 min pace |
| | Great 8 miles with Alana (freeman twice) then down to Panchari & back. THEN we went and snagged the girls and took them for their first official training run! Emma ran 1.75 miles today - not sure on pace, but she was strong. would take brief walk/water breaks then go again! We topped off our girl time together with soy steamers at Bella Coffee ~ I had the soy Chai :) What a great way to begin the two week tapper! |
| | ran early this morning @ 8:28 pace ~ Refreshing |
| | ran from Taylorview ~ 30 minute |
| | Therapy w/Alana - nice 8:44 pace for the last day of school |
| | Ran with all the ladies! So grateful for Shelley, Alana, Lindsi and Alisa! What an amazing training season it has been. Was really tired from head to toe this morning. Didn't want to run with the group - but glad I did. If I had gone on my own could have been a ten minute mile average...really. YET, I met up with everyone and ran at an 8:41 average pace. Gary joined us for the first few miles - then was able to take off. That was nice too, really looking forward to being sub-four hours next week! I feel ready - getting a massage this late afternoon...that should be good as well! |
| | out in the heat & wind with Alana ~ 9 min average pace - this was tough - looking forward to the challenge of training in the heat this summer!! |
| | little shake out run before the big day! |
| Race: |
Utah Valley Marathon (26.2 Miles) 04:21:31 | | Loved the race - loved the support - love the company I was with before and after. It was a windy day and the down hill killed my leg. IT band issues again beginning at mile 14 (made for a dang long remainder of the run...it was a hobble run with many stretch stops and prayers that the sharp pain would go away) therefore, it was no longer a race. One day, I would like to run a marathon where I could run/race the entire thing without IT band issues. My goal this summer is to strenghthen the core and all my muscle groups. Lean mean runnin' machine is what I desire to be now! |
| | tried to run - had to turn back home and walk - hurt too bad to run. Feels fine just to walk now though ~ |
| | around the river with lots of stretches - no watch today - just out to really listen and feel my body |
| | 9:04 pace, not too bad of a run - stopped to stretch a few times when I could feel my leg tighten up |
| | Ran 3 early by myself 8:47 pace then took Maya & Emma for a 2.5 mile run so they will be prepared for their first 5K...think they are ready to ROCK it :) |
| | 9:05 pace, only 3 stretch breaks today. Don't think I could have gone 6 - which is what I wanted, just feeling the outside of my knee too much to push it. I will rest it while camping this weekend then hopefully run on Monday ~ |
| | Ran outside with Alana - it was hot (87 degrees). Stopped halfway to stretch out the side of my leg. Just a little under 9 min miles. We chatted about if we want to be a faster runner...maybe we need to start running faster! HA - love it :) really wanting this to be the last week of feeling my IT band... |
| | After sleeping in this morning...then the wind and heat for the afternoon...alana graciously hung with the four kiddos while I ran on her treadmill. I was able to run 4 miles without stopping to stretch...felt and still feel amazing! Ran the first half at around an 8:40something pace, then picked it up finishing the last half mile at a 7 min. mile pace. AMAZING feeling. Over-all, ran an average of 8:19 pace. So DANG EXCITED!! | |
| | Emma & I ran with Alana & Maya for the Firecracker 5K....the girls did amazing and held strong, passing many kids and adults with a finish time of 34:18 for Emma ~ so proud of how hard she worked and maintained! Everyone had a great morning. Emma ate 3 doughnut holes by herself :) We then road bikes from Grandma & Papa Tutti's house to the parade and back...went shopping at Big 5 for new sleeping bags and now for a rest prior to BBQ with Well's family to end with walking to the river for fireworks and back! WHEW - Happy Birthday America!! |
| | Ran outside...cloudy, perfect morning. Loop Freeman by river for the hills and back around my neighborhood. No knee/leg pain!!!!!! Feeling great - 8:25 pace | |
| | Early morning run w/Alana ~ we set out for a pace run and killed it with an 8:15 pace!! AND my leg/knee feels great!! will still ice before setting in a car to drive to Twin...so happy for a beautiful morning run! |
| | Ran at 7:30 this morning - cramps most of the run, could only hold a 9:12 pace. there were a few miles in there that were enjoyable, but for the most part - what a tough run. Glad to be done, dislike running when feeling so crappy - yet felt I needed to get that longer run in. Good news, leg/knee feel fine - stretch & ice still...keep keeping on! hot already, going to be a hot one all week! | |
| | Ran from Granny O's again - not a flat route, that's for sure! Emma encouraged me to run this morning...I didn't feel like it. She explained that I would feel much better after my run - just get out and go for it! So happy I did - she is so smart, and such an encouragement! 8:30 pace | |
| |
odd milage, I know! I was done. have not been feeling well in the head :) so I went to doc. after run ~ sinus & ear infections :( pace was a meager 9:07...time for some drugs I suppose - this has been two weeks in. However, my legs and knees feel wonderful - praise God!!
|
| | Ran in humid, sticky weather. Great way to clear out sinus cavity :) struggled with pace for the first 6 miles, then i was able to pick up a bit after I gelled. 8:49 pace |
| | Ran with Elly Mae - how wonderful and a treat for me! Kim ran behind at her own pace and we BBQ'ed at our home to plan out GTR for aug. 9:00 pace - |
| | beautiful morning for a run! 8:37 pace | |
| | short on time ~ ran 2 800's with four 400's - 8mph on the 8s and 7mph on the 4's (for a rest between) then off to Diana's yoga class with husband! it was HARD but oh so good - great work out! |
| | Met at the running store to run with Lynette, Shelley and another guy. ran 5 with group and one with Shelley and then one solo back to the store. Pace was 8:21 and it was a push for me to get it!! YET, so happy for the run this morning and to shake it up a bit :) |
| | Wow...tough run. I just got progressively slower ~ it was hot (74) and for some reason, I had nothing in me to give this morning. The distance should have been 5.5 from my house, loop freeman and river to Broadway and home. I walked a quarter in - I was DONE. I will rest tomorrow while cheering on friends & sister-in-law Jill for the I.F. half marathon tomorrow then run 14 on Sunday. pace today: 8:51 |
| | it was a tough run this morning - first 7 were 9:08 pace...hard way then I was able to pick it up, but not too much. felt soooo sluggish :( overall...8:59 pace |
| | up camping ~ two hills - great training 8:50 pace |
| | 10K with Kim & Elly - paced Kim, tougher than I thought to go 11 minute miles. Don't think I want to do that again; however, to be an encouragement to her the entire way was worth it for the day! |
| | Ran w/Alana, Gama and Shelley. Up Sunny Side 8.5 which gave us some hill and then back down. Back right hamstring really tight. Did ice bath and lots of stretching. Will just need to continue to stretch. I had to stop numerous times to stretch on the run as well. This was a mental tough one today ~ but really good to push through! 8:51 over-all pace. |
| | I'm really liking my "odd" distance times :) makes me grin slightly. Good shake out run this morning - funny - same pace as I ran 17 yesterday - YET a lot easier...nice and easy for my body. Praise God for a healthy body to run with!! | |
| | 9:11 pace, still have tired legs from Sunday. Felt good to be out running - start temp was 65 degrees and end temp was 74...going to be a hot August I think. Odd distance B/C I ran into Terry who I found out lives a block from me! I had her Boston long sleeve from our last marathon (I did bag check) so I was able to return it to her and not run up Grandview hill... |
Brooks Yellow Ghost 4 Miles: 5.85 |

| | 8:44 pace - good to run at home!! |
Brooks Yellow Ghost 4 Miles: 7.00 |
|
| | Began @ warm 65 degrees. Wore new Saucony outfit...loved the light weightness of the entire ensemble. Ran with Alisa & Alana - and kept a nice overall pace of 9:02 (3 hours and 1 minute on the dot). Felt all sorts of aches and pains (left outside knee tight, hip flexors tight) but all worked themselves out and I feel GREAT! I did take an ice bath - that helps me a ton. |
Brooks Yellow Ghost 4 Miles: 20.00 |
|
| | So I went out to do the 'shake out' run from long one yesterday and felt my hamstring pull really tight, almost like it could hurt. At this point in the game - I think rest is best... |
Brooks Yellow Ghost 4 Miles: 0.25 |
|
| | Left the house @ 85 degrees - @ 7:00 p.m. looped Freeman twice and then river & Grandview hill a few times up and down. Happy with my pace of 8:39 - now I will run first thing in the morning and again in the evening to mimic back to back running in preparation for next weekend GTR!! |
Brooks Yellow Ghost 4 Miles: 8.00 |
|
| | Got up from last night's run - ate half a banana & coffee then went out. Nice cool 55 temp. didn't push the pace kept it at 9:20 for the average - I feel really good. Plan on doing 5 tonight and then 3 miles in the morning! |
Brooks Yellow Ghost 4 Miles: 6.50 |

Brooks Yellow Ghost 4 Miles: 4.00 |
|
| | First leg in Grand Teton Relay!! It was 97 degrees, dusty, sandy, rocky dirt road. Tough to run fast - belly was still ill from the week. 9:47 pace and it was HARD :) |
| | Second leg of GTR ~ 2:30 a.m. It was so dark, gravel road for half then trail for the second half. Happy to follow another gal running in the dark. We wore reflective vests, blinking lights and head lamps. Greg & Rex were 10-2a.m. volunteers so that was GREAT to see them! 8:47 pace (which was crazy b/c when a truck passed me - there was no way to see through the dust!) Third leg of GTR ~ 11:19 a.m. Getting warm again and started the run up the Jackson Hole pass. Traffic was intense, trees were amazing and the Tetons were spectacular. Our host families were amazing to shower, feed and rest our weary bodies. My team was a blessing how well everyone got along and how much crazy, crazyness fun we had. YES I would do this again in a heartbeat! |
| | ah, nice fast shake out run from the weekend - totally unplugged :) |

| | Ran with Shelley, perfect weather today! We ran west side out to County Line road then cut over to East River Road, loop into Freeman and home. 21 miles with AP of 8:47 (pretty dang excited about how good and steady that pace felt!! Nervous that @ mile 19 I had to stop and really stretch out, my IT band was really pulling around my knee...like pain. Then drank some red power aide and felt amazing, but the last quarter mile it really hurt. Feels fine now after ice bath and rolling and stretching. I will continue with stretching and really focus on rolling, icing and stretching well for the next few weeks. Overall, I feel amazing and ready to tackle the day with my family!! |

| | Started out where I stopped at mile 4...had an average pace of 9:10, and wanted to turn and go home. I did a self check...felt fine, just heavy legs. I took my only gel I had with me and picked up the pace. I ended up feeling so good that I added another 2 miles onto what should have been a 13 mile run :) Oh Happy Day! so overall, ap was 8:48 ~ I feel so dang goooood |

| | What an amazing run with amazing women! Ran with Alisa & Shelley - up Sunnyside 7 mile then back down to Ammon road - headed south til 97th then west for home. Nice rollers, for hill training in the middle. Where I had been ill all week, I wasn't going to go the full 20 (like half in fact) but then felt awesome halfway - pushed myself in a great way! 8:30 average pace (feeling like a rock star right now) crazy to think we celebrated a year ago when we would run 5 miles at this pace (and couldn't talk - we talked the entire first 12/13 miles). So grateful for the running women in my life to encourage and push me to a better, faster runner! Alana was missed this morning! |

| | Ran early morning run with alana. Getting caught up on the blog - been awhile - I will just back log miles at this point. Since my accident from last saturday, my chest on the right side still really hurts for pushing or lifting. couldn't talk on the run this morning, but it was so nice to be in sync with alana's foot steps and have our peace of mind before diving into the busy day. I really love running. |

| | Went to run 10 miles with the girls. Pain was so great in my chest I turned back. Had a hard time driving home. Finally sunday morning I went into the doctor. Have been really struggling with pain especially at night while lying down. I had broken a rib - upper right chest. Most likely cracked it in my fall last week, then snapped a clean break after lifting a bag of potatoes. I am now resting and recovering. Pain medication is helping. St. George Marathon is in 6 days. I won't be going down with my running crew, which makes me sad. However, I love living in God's plan and am curious as to what I may learn and grow from while being forced to rest, reflect and heal. I am so grateful for my friends and family to lift me up at this time. |

| | Funny how when I went to write 2 miles, the computer wanted to auto fill with 21 miles. Nope, 2 miles - on the TM in my basement. However, I feel the time off for my rib to fuse together was worth it. I will slowly gather miles, speed and endurance under my belt. I will be stronger. I will be faster. I will my body to work in unison with my spirit and mind to be fully whole once again. I have really missed running. So for today, I celebrate my two miles. |

| | First time outside to run in about 5 weeks! The leaves smelled amazing - infusing my senses! Odd how your pacing is totally off when you come back from taking so much time. First mile 8:20, second mile 8:37 and third mile and half 9:12. Ah, but it felt good to be outside running. So much praise up today! |

| | Ran right after dinner (ew, not a bright idea) on TM @ home. amazing how hard 2 miles seemed tonight. Feeling my IT band, but think it is just tight, as is all of me. I took my time to stretch, may even ice as I still feel it an hour later. Won't complain, just happy to be able to run. I feel I am completly healed from my break |
