6.5 miles in the morning

5 miles in the evening

This morning I went on one of my runs around green spring golf course. I warmed up with 2 miles then did a half mile under 2:40 then jogged a half mile- did this 3x and cooled off with a mile and a half. Good to get the body movin-

Tonight went out for an easy 5 miles up the desert trail.

Feeling a lot better than on Saturday. This morning I just felt o.k. Then tonight I felt really good.

Five easy miles this morning.

Planned on going out for three more tonight but our home owners association meeting got a little heated and went way long.

Did an easy run this morning. Feeling a little antsy. The men are healthy, strong and ready to fight all this waiting around is just building up the hype. I may need to hire a sports shrink in the future if I keep running marathons. I couldn't sleep at all last night, and when I did I woke up to three drama filled dreams about running. One of these nightmares actually had me crying in my sleep- which woke my wife. I'll be glad to (hopefully) get this breakthrough marathon over so next time it's not such a big jump.

5.5 miles in the evening

Ran easy this morning and then relaxed all day. Meet with the club tonight and did an out and back run up the course. It felt good to get out and take some of the stress away. We did a mile tempo run at around 5:20 pace.

Nice and easy. Hope everyone has a good race.

Wow where to start-

What a great day. I’ve been so stressed. A summer full of training paid off big time this morning.

Ran a PR of 2:36.12 more than a 22 min PR. I won the Silver Shoe award (Southern Utah’s fastest man at this race) this includes a new Nordic Track treadmill, bread for a year from Great Harvest and a few other little things. 17th overall, 5th in age 25-29. Thanks to everyone along the way, I’m humbled and feel so blessed about todays events.

Started the race of kind of in a daze- just running along not really focusing on anything in particular. In doing so I lost track of Dave Holt who I had planned on running with.

Now I’m on my own. Passed Chad and his friend and just pushed into Veyo drafting off of unknowns along the way.

Then at the hill everyone kind of slowed way down and I couldn’t take it so I lead a group of 5 up the hill. When on top finally bright enough to put on sun glasses.

Then worked on the climb out of Dammeron Valley. Pushed it a little hard on the climb just trying to get it over with. Hit the half in 1:20.20 (give or take). Soon after the half Dave Holt and Logan Fielding came up from behind and picked me up. I had slowed down not paying attention and my quads where starting to get stiff- I thought this was going to be trouble later in the race.

The three of us clipped along down Snow Canyon and into Winchester Hills and we started coming up on Jose Martinez another St. George resident. Going up the hill by the overpass in Winchester I started to worry about the situation. All four of us running right there were from St. George and eligible to win the Silver Shoe. I had to try and separate myself from these guys and put as much distance as possible between us as I could before the final miles. So I pushed on passing Jose and really trying to focus on proper form, running as efficient as I could, making every stride count.

When I came down the hill I passed two others and pushed down Diagonal St. At the corner I looked back to see what kind of breathing room I might have created ( a little). With one mile to go I was at 2:29.30 and knew I could break 2:40 and possibly win the shoe. But at this point I was running alone- no one in front or behind me for 30 seconds or so.

So I just tried to hang on and finish. No strong surge at the end, just crossed the line and happy to be there. I could go on for a while with this but better stop here.

Good job to the entire St. George Running club, yes you too Dave your one of us now. So you better start coming. Especially good job to Dustin for putting together a really good PR for himself.

I forgot to mention a big thanks to Sasha for the blog. I owe 10 min of my PR to the help I've gotten from fastrunningblog.com

Three cheers for Sasha!

2.5 easy miles with my wife Mik’L. Legs feeling stiff after sitting from an extended time, but after stretching they feel pretty good.

I decided to write down my food intake and training stuff the last couple days before the marathon because I had absolutely no problems with my stomach or going potty during the race. In fact I didn’t have to go #2 from the time at the starting line porta potty until sometime Sunday afternoon.

Anyways I’ll find this info useful before my next race and maybe others might benefit from it as well.

Thursday Afternoon

Ran with the club 5.5 miles with one mile at 5.20 pace at 7p.m.

Came home and ate:

1 can salmon (like a can of tuna, but salmon)

½ an avocado

1 bowl of noodles (from Costco or Albertsons) like ramen noodles but in its own bowl

1 mixed 16oz cup of Cytomax from powder

1 banana

In bed by 9:30 p.m. and watched TV until 10:20 then tried to sleep

Friday

3 mile run @ 9 a.m.

Ate:

Bowl of Honey nut Cheerios

1 banana

1 mixed drink of Cytomax

Got ready and went to Marathon Expo at Noon

Drank a 32 oz bottle of Cytomax during the day while out and about

Went to lunch at 2 p.m. at Samaria 21

Ate:

Chicken Teriyaki Bowl (chicken and noodles)

A little tofu soup and some salad

2 ½ sushi (California roll style)

Bowl of white rice

Water with lemon

We messed around town and went home at 5 p.m.

Hot Bath

Prep for run (all my stuff together)

Ate: @ 7 p.m.

1 Bowl of noodles (not the whole thing)

1 apple

Drank water

Watched “Without limits”

In bed by 9 p.m.

Day of the race

Up at 4 a.m. sharp

2 pieces of wheat toast with very little butter

1 banana

½ a vanilla power bar

1 mixed cup of cytomax from powder

Trip to toilet at home

Shower and shave * I like to feel fresh for a race

Get everything ready and out of the house by 4:45 to meet people at rec center by 5 a.m.

Ride up in van with some of the Japanese delegates

Ate on ride up:

1 more banana

Other half of power bar

Sipped on more cytomax

At starting line by around 6 a.m.

Stretched, talked with others, porta potty 2 times before the race. One trip because I had to go and one trip about 15 min to start just to make sure we were clear for take off.

Strip off warm cloths and we are off

While running I had bottles mixed with Endurance fuel (GNC product) and plain flavored GU’s at mile markers 11 and 19.

That’s about it. I’ll definitely follow something like this in the future and would have paid a good price for something like this in the past. If you have any other questions about this just ask.

Went out up the trail over to the water tank and down turkey farm road through the industrial park and home.

About 5 miles into the run it felt like I was taking a bad trip to "quad city". I think my quads are as sore as they have ever been. Hope they start to feel better soon.

Still feeling poor. We came back to Torrey due to bad weather. It rained all day so I came back to St. George and was going to get a run in but after all the driving and sickness I was trashed when I got home.

I guess after the last 4 months of training and then after running the marathon my body finally crashed. I'm feeling a little better today (monday) and will start getting some miles in this week.

Went out for a run this afternoon after taking a few days off. It wasn't pretty. The first 4 miles were uphill. My calves got so tight that my left foot fell asleep while I was running. I can honestly say that's never happened before. I guess it's going to take a few weeks of putting in some miles to get back into the swing of things.

Some easy miles this morning. Was going to go out from 7 more tonight but forgot about a meeting that went from 6-9 p.m. Should have gone out before we left because after we got home I was ready for bed.

8.5 miles in the a.m.

8.5 miles in the evening

I know it sounds like a lot at this point but broken up into two runs 10 hours apart takes the sting out of it.

I'm starting to feel a lot better. My run on Monday felt like maybe a 3 out of 10 and I'd say todays runs were a 7 and a 8.5 respectively.

My only issue is a sore ankle that I rolled on Mondays run. I need to ice it and it should be good to go.

I had this up once and then deleted it by mistake.

An easy 5 mile morning run.

6.3 miles with the club tonight.

Ran a little harder the last few miles coming back with Holt. Somewhere around 5:40 pace. Felt good to push it a little.

Good game last night between the Mets and Cards- Can I get a what, what- or even a amen to the catch that Chaves made at the wall to end the inning. I wanted the Mets to win but that catch will be a highlight for a long time. So anyways there you have it. Hopefully this will be my last post today.

Meet up with the club early this morning. We went up to the T bone trail and then over to the water tank, down the power line trail and into Middleton, then back on Skyline Dr.

I felt ok then just after about 12 miles I was ready to be done. From there in I just putted along. I'm ready to replace all my running shoes.

Morning run was a little taxing. Calves were really tight the first 4 miles. I stopped and tryed to loosen them up and it helped- the rest of the run felt good.

Evening run was GOOD. Every once in a while you grind the gears and find that one gear where your just floating. Tonight I went out for a 5 mile run and was day dreaming and missed the exit. So I added anouther 2 or so. Running felt effortless, good fast stride.

Starting to come around.

Both runs felt good. My ankle is still sore from rolling it a few days ago. My food intake the last week and a half is out of control. It's not helping me lose the 4lbs I gained the week after the marathon. I would like to get back to race weight by next Saturday for the Butch Cassidy 10k. If I can continue to feel good between now and then I think I'll be able to PR in the 10k- I guess we will see.

Both runs were pretty good. This evening I went exploring and found some new trails up in my running park. It will be nice to mix it up with the trails I found. Running the same ones all the time was getting old.

Pushed it at marathon pace the last three back home.

Tonight the club run was good. A new loop! Well kind of- did the Webb hill and Holt said we could take a trail he made off the other side when he was a fire fighter. So we took the trail and came down above the Dixie Center, then back to the park.

Good run. I enjoyed the new part a lot. Pushed it a little the last mile or so.

Meet with the club. Good morning run- a little chilly. I really feel bad for those of you who live in Northern Utah this time of year.

Run went good. From Dixie Center over to Bloomington and around the loop there, then under the freeway up into Bloomington Hills and around Webb Hill down River Road to the trail back to Dixie Center. Good 12.5 mile loop.

Holt said we were at like 6:50 pace for the run. Pace felt good. The second half felt better than the first. Finally warmed up!

easy morning run.

Ran some timed miles tonight with Steve. Something like 5:18, 5:21, 5:24 I think.

It was at the park in St. George around that block. Kind of slow on the corners, but not too bad.

I need speedwork, but it sucks!
