| | This is a week total for this week. |
| | This is just a week total for that week. |
| | Just a road run around my house. |
| | Good afternoon trail run with the St.George boys. |
| | A beefy hill workout. Very sore shins at first but felt good later on in run |
| | very busy all day did not run til 9pm just did a easy run. Felt ok. |
| | No run today. Moving took a lot of energy in and out of the house. |
| | Exelent run with the lads (steve, dustin, bill) down a amazing trail. I felt good the whole way. Pushed it at random parts of the run. By far the best run of '06 for me. | |
| | I went out to discover new running paths around our new neighborhood and had planned on going 5-6. I ended up going up around Green Springs golf course then catching a trail up to the water tower and coming back down by the industrial park. I felt pretty good. Although on the run last Saturday I jumped of a rock about 5 feet tall and bruised my heel and it has been sore all weekend and bothered me a little on this run. | |
| | A rainy cold run in St.George. We ran a pretty good pace most of the run. For the most part the track was very flat, with the exeption of a mile hill. Half mile up one side and half mile down the other. I had guessed that we had run about 7 but Steve was once again really close by his 9 mile guess. |
| | Went out against the wind on a uphill, sandy track. I know this sounds like a story from your Grandfather but it was murder. All of it hurt, most of it was slow, and none of it was easy. | |
| | I did a little loop run out on a desert trail by my house. I felt a lot better than the day before. It ended up being 6.6 miles, then I came home and switched into some new race shoes and did 1 mile out and 1 back just to get use to the shoes a little before the Spectrum 10k next week. | |
| | I went out in the worst snow storm I've ever seen in the STG. People around here say for it to storm all day it pretty rare. Anyways I ran a short distance and called it a day. Hopefully tomorrow will be good enough to get some miles in. | |
| | Not the best run for me, but I got the miles in. | |
| | I want to do a little cross training and see how my body works with that. So I ran 6 miles from my house to my in-laws house. Then road a bike a longer 9 miles back to my house. Pretty good workout. Body feels like its getting stronger. I have pain in the back of my knee or the top of my calf. I can't figure out which one it is. If I could get rid of that pain I'd feel great. |
| | Ran with Steve and Bill. The run was pretty good. Some dirt trail and the rest on the streets of STG. I feel ok just don’t have the kick from last week. Instead of running and feeling loose and ready I feel more like I'm laboring just to stay with the pack. Steve really looks like a different runner. Both on our Saturday run, and last night he looks strong. Maybe we all should go sledding and quench our thirst with some MaGiC JuIcE. | |
| | I went against my game plan for the week and did a long run. I just could not say no the nice sunny afternoon. It was soo nice after work. So I put on my skimpiest running outfit and hit the trail. I ran most pretty much the same 10 miler that kicked my butt last Wed... I just added a different trail somewhere along the line and add a mile and a half or so. I felt pretty good. Really didnt try and run hard. If I pushed it at all it was from miles 7-10. My knee is a little sore now (morning after). Hopefully it will work its self out with time. | |
| | Wanted to take it easy...So I road a bike 6.3 miles to warm up then went out and did 5 miles of running. Pretty sore on the run. May take Friday off to try and heal for the race on Sat. I think I'm overall really improving. My weight is down to where I want to be. My lungs feel like they are getting stronger. I just need to work on my overall strength. Now that I'm down to my desired running weight I think I'll lift more weights to try and keep some strength. With the 10-12 pounds I've lost in the last 3 weeks I feel I've also lost some strength. |
| | Ran the Spectrum 10k. Did one mile of warm up. Time of 37:16. I really felt good and was pleased with the race. Considering I've felt horrible all week. I should have pushed harder the last mile...I just felt like I was going to throw up if I pushed it harder than the pace I was going. I think I need to do some speed work. This vomiting thing happens too often at races. Speed work would help my body get use to pushing it that hard...I don't konw? I biked a total of 16 miles this week. So I'll add 4 easy mies to my week total. | |
| | Did some of the T'Bone trail backwards. The whole run I was thinking how nice it was to be running for the first time in forever and not have some part of my body hurting. Then with a mile left my left forfoot started throbbing out of the blue. I have no idea why, even now (morning after) it kills. I honestly dont know what my problem is with shoes and feet this year but its honestly really frustrating. | |
| | Ran with Dustin and Steve. We ran a good nice and easy run. Pushed the last mile or so. Feel good (morning after). The run was 8.7 and we did .4 more in a cool down. | |
| | All day at work I wanted to get out and run. So I left an hour early and went home to gear up for my "Big loop" run. The first three miles are a good warm up as they are uphill. Then the next 7 are on trail and dirt roads. The pace on those is a little slower because I don't want to tweek my ankle. The last part is on paved roads back to the house. Its a good run. I'll try and keep that as one of my weekly training runs. | |
| | Ran with Dustin, and Bill. We just ran nice and steady. I felt good. No pain to mention. Just a good 20 mile run. | |
| | Ran out and back from my house. Up past the water tank. about 2 miles out I ran into Dustin who was just coming off the T'bone trail. Then we went up two more miles. I pushed hard the last two on the way home, about 5:35 min mile pace. It felt good to run hard. All two miles of it is downhill, so I was able to just let it go. I'm feeling pretty strong, no major "hurts". I hope to stay on this path through Boston and into the summer. I feel if I stay this focused and strong I'll be in good shape come the STG Marathon. | |
| | Ran with the Club. We ran from the park to the Dixie Center path. Dustin and I went on around Formaster, while Steve and Bill went up RR. Dustin and I went about 7.6, at pretty easy pace. Dont want to push anything hard and get hurt for Boston. I did 1 lap at park warm up to bring my total up to 8. |
| | I didn't really want to go on this run...but went to try and keep my weekly mileage up. Two miles into the run I ran into Bill who was coming off the T'bone trail...This seems like a popular place this week. I didn't loosen up very well before my run so I was really tight and had to stop and stretch. The whole run took me forever today. I had rain the last 3 miles. It wasn’t fun but I’m glad I got the run in. Knee is starting to feel better (now Thursday morning) than it was Tuesday or on the run Wednesday night. I wore a little knee strap thing that seemed to provide some better support. | |
| | I ran a inter city loop. Left home and went to the Blv down to 400 E. Then took 700 S. over Formaster and followed the road past Costco under the freeway and back home. I didn't expect to go that far. I was trying out a new pair of shoes and it felt so good. Later that night I felt like my body was at zero for energy. I'll have to take it easy on Friday and give myself a chance to recharge. | |
| | Did an easy 4 miles around my house. It was rainning and cool but I put on my winter gear and slugged along. |
| | Ran with the club. Steve couldn't make it so it was Dustin, and the Bull. We looped the black hill and ran through town. I felt good until the last 2 miles kind of cramped up. Tryed to push the last 7 miles or so. I have a lot to work on before I can run a competitive marathon. I wish there was another month before Boston... |
| | I did a version of my big loop run. Switched some things up and made it an even 12 miles. It was an amazing day in STG. I left my house at 4:30 and it felt like it was 80. The first 3 miles are uphill and my calves were as tight as they have ever been. I thought about turning around but waited until I crested the hill to see if they felt better. They did and I was able to pick it up from there. Finished, and felt good other than my legs where hot trying to fall asleep. | |
| | Got up this morning and did a run. I have to go to SLC for a work meeting today and tomorrow so I'm not sure what kind of running I'm going to get in. I hope to get 4-5 more tonight, but I'll have to see what kind of time I'll have. Didn't have any time so I'm glad I got some miles in this morning. | |
| | Got up at 5:30a.m. and ran from the Little America up past the Capitol building up into some residentual area and did a loop in there then turned around and found a road up this little canyon so I followed it up and took it to were a trail came back down. Then just ran back down through town to my suite at Little America. | |
| | I picked up some kind of cold in SLC so all day I thought there was no way I was going to run. However I went home from work early and slept for a couple hours and then made myself go out. It was horrible. But in the end I felt ok. | |
| | Ran out in the desert by my house. Its starting to feel like summer here. In a short time I'll have to start running later in the day because of the heat. I am putting some fake grass in my back yard and I got fryed this afternoon, so I'll be pink for the 10k in the morning. |
| | Did the 10k and a little over a mile of warm up. I ran the race as good as I could have due to my situation. I had a bad sun burn on my back and was feeling wore out before I even started running. During the race I started out a little faster than I would have preferd. I never could find a smooth pace that would allow me to catch the leader. I ended up 2nd with a time of 37:50 slower than a couple weeks ago, but the course was harder too. About 3 miles of up hill, but the conditions today were very nice...good day to run, fun atmospher. Now I have to finish installing the fake grass in my back yard. | |
| | I did my new big loop run. I wanted to get one more longer run in before I started to taper off for Boston next Monday. The run felt so good I ran smooth and easy no problems at all. I hope that I'm finally starting to progress to the next level. I have decided to run the Boston marathon as a learning experience/training run. Everyone I talk to says this isn’t the course to go out and PR on. So I'm going to run hard but in more of a training/ learning educational mentality than a competitive “I’m not going to let him pass me” state of mind. | |
| | Did an easy 5 with the running club, Dustin, Bill) Steve is still trying to heal. We are all pumped for Boston. We tried to plan meeting points and times. I am feeling really good. I'm getting skinny, maybe too skinny. After Boston I am going to work out a lifting program that I can incorporate into my workouts. I'd like to keep my upper body strong and tone, and not skin and bones. | |
| | Meet with the running club to do a interview with the local newspaper. Ran some laps before and after, and then after the interview Steve and I ran down to Dixie High School and ran two miles on the track. It was good to run with Steve again. He seemed to be feeling pretty good. Then we ran back up to the park. Five total miles for this day on my taper trail to Boston. |
| | Just an easy 6 miler. It sure felt hot outside...summer is comming fast in Dixie. | |
| | Travled to Boston all day. After we checked into the hotel we walked all over down town Boston. |
| | Walking all day in Boston. Then ran one mile on the treadmill. | |
| | Ran the Boston today...What a race. I finished in the top 1200 and ran it in 3:00.48, I was really disappointed that I didn't cut one run it under 3hrs. I ran the first half nice and easy and ran a negitive split on the second half. But I waited too long to start pushing, I just needed one minute less. Oh well. This race was hard I decided I like the St.George better. Its been a good trip, and it was good to come out and run with the other members of our club. I finished as the 3rd person from southern Utah, and the 12th from Utah. | |
| | Boston to Washington D.C to SLC to St.George. What a trip home I'm spent from this little 4 day blast of a vacation. |
| | I'm still pretty sore. I'll try and get some runs in Thurs, Fri, and Sat. |
| | My body is still sore, not as bad as yeasterday but sore. I'm getting sick, runny nose, fever. I will have to take the day off. Would have liked to run as soon as possible after Boston, but need to let my body heal from the beating I gave it. | |
| | Quick loop around industrial park. |
| | Nice easy Saturday morning run with the running club. |
| | I decided I'd start doing some (2) a day workouts to help boost my mile per week. So I've picked a quick loop through the industrial park that I can run every morning. With a afternoon run this will help me pick it up. Ran after work out 3.5 and back. I feel a little sore but almost better than I would guess I should considering one week ago I was in a wheelchair after Boston. | |
| | I did 3.5 in the morning. Then after work I meet with the club and we ran over Formaster and backwards around our little bottom end loop. The loop is 8.7 so I did a little lap at the park after and it made it and even 9 on GE. I'm feeling good. With the extra miles that I plan on running I just hope to stay free from injury. I try and run easy and uniform on my runs to prevent anything from happening. If I can stay healthy and I can handle doing this many miles for the next few months I think I can really improve. For now I have decided to just take it one day, or one run at a time because it gets stressful looking at the big picture...all those miles, all those runs, speed work, new shoes, yada, yada yada | |
| | Morning Loop After work I was goig to do my "big loop" but I remembered that I had my high school wrestling banquet tonigt at 6p.m. So I left work at 4 and went to the high school and changed. I ran from there over Formaster, then up around the mall, down through the Red Cliffs shopping center, over the freeway, down the Blv, and down 400 E back to the high school. It was right on 7 miles. It was a pretty good run and it left me with plenty of time to get things organized for the wrestlers. | |
| | I couldn't get up today so I had to do it all after work. Bad choice. I worked late so by the time I went out it was 5:40p.m. which for me is late to begin a long run. It was really windy and if I could have gotten out of it-I would have. I did my desert big loop run and the thing I've been living in fear of ever since the first day I ran out there happened today. I saw a snake. Holly crap I almost stepped on the stupid thing. I'm almost sure it was a rattler. I hate snakes with every fiber of my soul. I told my wife that I love running out on those trail, but the first time I saw a snake would be the last time I ran out there. So I've got to find some new running loops, or get a lot braver due to the situation. The worst part about it is that the last two weeks the vegetation has grown up so high that its hard to see the trail and I'll be almost on top of one of the stupid things before ever seeing it. Bad, Bad news for me. After that my heart rate went through the roof for the next 5 miles and I hardly would run because I was trying to slow down and watch for more. Then once I got out of enemy territory I was able to stride it out again. | |
| | Did my morning run. I planned on doing a good afternoon workout but ended up going up to Cedar City and not getting home until late. |
| | Ran with the club. Did a loop out in Ivans and Santa Clara. Pretty good run. Again I had planned to do another run this afternoon but did not have a free second until after 10p.m. and by then I was dead. My goal for the week was 64 and I feel just short. Two days in a row my days ran away from me, not allowing a afternoon run. The lesson here is that I am thankful I did the morning runs to at least get some miles in. | |
| | Did my 3.5 mile morning run. Then a 12 mile run in the afternoon. This was a lot of miles for one day for me so I took it slow. Plus I went out at about 4:45 pm so it was still close to 90 outside. I pulled an old runners trick and cut into the golf course to grab a drink of water. It tasted so good the first time that I found anouther one about a mile later. I'm down to 155.5 the lowest I've been since runing at UVSC in 2001. I really don't want to lose much more. In fact I need to start lifting a little to build my upper body. Trying to find the time or energy to lift has been an issue. | |
| | A.M. Loop @ 3.5. Went out for a easy run (I thought). I had planned on doing 7 miles (max) but ended up going up this sandy trail that was hard to run on and cutting into my big loop trail. So I did 8.5 out in the 90-degree heat. The heat didn't really bother me. I just ate a really bad lunch and it was wreaking havoc in my stomach. I had the dry heaves around the 3-mile mark. I wish I could have just puked and got it out of there. After the 4.5-mile mark I started feeling a little better. My muscles, joints, and the rest of my body feel great. I have developed a blister on the little tow of my right foot. It hurts. I've got to dry it up so it won't be a factor in the half marathon this weekend. | |
| | Ran the a.m loop Did the same loop backwards after work. The blister I mentioned yeasterday is bad. I put some mole skin around it this afternoon but it was still very painful to run. I've got to find a way to heal it up before Saturday so I can run. Hopefully by not going to far today, and cutting back Thurs and Friday it will heal enough so the pain wont bother me. | |
| | Ran with the club. Pretty good run. From the park and around the loop we ran it was 8.2 then I did a lap to cool down. The blister on my right foot is pretty bad. Then on the run tonight I developed anouther blister on my left foot in the same place. Right on the end and inside of my little toes. I really can't explain why this is happening. The only thing is that it is bad timeing with the Hurricane race comming up. |
| | Ran 4 miles then biked about anouther 6. The blisters on my feet hurt pretty bad. I'll have to take some IB's in the morning before the half to get me thourgh it. |
| | Ran the Hurricane half marathon. I only did about .4 warm up. It was a good race. Dustin and I ran together most of the race. We didn't push it as hard as some at first, so we had to run them down. After the first two miles we were in 9th and 10th place but ended up moving into 5th and 6th overall finishes. I passed a the 4th place guy inside 150 yards then he surged with 85 yards left and passed my back. My card said my time was 1:20.14. Which I was really plessed with if its for real. I had gone into the race only wanting to best 1:25 so I beat my goal by around almost 5 min. I felt like I ran a good race, no major issues. I did do have 2 blisters one on each foot that messed with my stride a little but nothing too much. At mile 7 I felt like I was starting to cramp up, but just then we crested the hill and started to bail off down the other side at what felt like a sprint. Then after that I started forgeting about the pain and got pumped to hang on to my place, and try and catch one more racer. I ended up 1st in the 25-29 yr old division, and everyone got rosted by Hobbie Call who ran a smoking 1:06 and some change. A good race, and it gives me more confidence to go out and run even faster times. If my time was 1:20 at the Hurricane I think I can run a really good Hobble Creek race in Aug. This course has the tag line "she's fast, but she aint easy" its true. There are some pretty tought hills. Including the last one that is about a mile long during the 12th mile of the race. | |
| | I did not get up and do a morning run because I still felt kind of stiff from Saturday. So after work I pushed and pulled out 6 miles and back home. I've had better runs, thats for sure. Kind of stiff, and half way through I got dehydrated in the heat. Lost 6lbs of fluid in that one run. I have a pretty good scale and was 161.0 (in the buff) before the run and 155.0 after. I like droping pounds but not like that. It's the time of year where I need to start stashing water along the course so I can hydrate myself. | |
| | Did a run late tues night at 9p.m. |
| | Did a good paced workout on the treadmill in our Park Central hotel in NYC. Long day of flying, glad to be here and at least got some miles in. | |
| | Ran a nice good run in Central Park in NYC. There were runners all over the place. That park is big and confuzing. | |
| | Did a good tempo run(11 miles) in central park. Also walked about 7-8 miles today. | |
| | Planned on doing a good run today but it was our last day in NY so we tried to jam everything into our schedule. Very busy. So I ran on the treadmill at tempo pace. Pretty good workout. I was glad to get in 60 miles this week. I'd planned on only getting in 5 or so a day. Fun trip to NY. Stayed in a penthouse suite in the Park Central hotel. Now we've got to travel back to Utah today on (Sunday). | |
| | Went on my big loop run. The first mile and a half my calves were as hard as a rock. I couldn't keep any kind of a pace. It didn't help that the first 3 miles are some good uphill. Then after I got to the top of the hill I finally started to enjoy the run and my calves started to loosen up. With only a half mile left my wife pulled up to the side of me in the car and at that point I just decided to get in so instead of 12 I only got 11.5 miles in. I didn't feel to bad about it. Overall I felt the run was good. I'm not sure why my calves were so tight at the first. It could be that on Sunday I was sitting for hours at airports and on planes. Then on Monday back at work I was in a meeting for nine and a half hours just sitting there. With all that sitting- then going out on a run... maybe thats why. Or I could have just been sore from my last tread mill run on Saturday night in NYC. I ran it at a good speed and tread mills are harder on your calves.? Who knows... | |
| | 3.5 easy morning run. Did an out and back run- 4 out, 4 back. Had some bad stomach problems. Two uncharted pit stops along the run. I also had bad side aches. I think I'm starting to clean out my system from the trip. I ate a pretty bad diet while in NY, and I need to pass it all through my system, just not off the side of the road. bad day.... |
| | 3.5 miles in the morning In this life we all find our breaking points from time to time. I found one of mine last night. Came home from work around 4 and thought about running from my house through Washington fields over to my inlaws home. It sounded good so I told my wife and she said she could pick me up over there after. Well 100 degrees + 10 miles - no hydro of any kind= Superfly almost going to the ER. I had to stop and walk 3-4 times as I was dizzy and finding it hard to stay on my feet. I told my wife I wish I'd had a panic button that I could have pushed and had here come get me around 6 miles into the run. Because of my pride, I made myself finish, not a very smart move. After last night theres a new rule in our home. No running when its 100 outside. I'm just gonna have to wait until after 6:30 or 7pm to go out after work. | |
| | Morning run of 3.5 miles. Came home from work very wore out. Slept on the couch for 2 and half hours and debated about even going out. Finally talked myself into it. Just went out enough to ge an even 10 miles in for the day with the morning run. |
| | 3.5 in morning 3.5 in afternoon |
| | Went with Dustin on a run...We went from my house to the other side of town and ran up Web hill twice. Then came home around Costco and up. When we left I had it around 15. Then we changed a couple of things and it ended up being 16. Good workout, running Web hill is all you can handle. Its almost 1 mile from base to top. Hope your ankle is o.k. Dustin. He rolled it when we went cross country running thourgh some rocks and other ish... | |
| | Morning 3.5 mile run. Did my big loop 12 miler. It was such a nice day to get out. It had been rainy and windy all day and droped the temp abou 15-20 degrees lower than last week. It really felt good. Plus I'd had a mother of a day at the office (stressed out) and it just felt good to get out and not have to deal with anything but (watching for snakes). I didn't see any...so all in all a good run. |
| | Morning run @ 3.5 miles. Did 4 miles out and 4 back run. Started feeling really weak. I need to eat a little more to fuel my runs. | |
| | 3.5 miles in the morning. Went exploring on some trails. Ended up going a little farther that I had planned but it was a good run. Ended up going 8.7 in the afternoon run. It was hot and dry, and for 5 miles of it I lived in fear of a snake jumping up at me. I saw about 15-20 lizzards that were between 8-12 inches long. There are some big ones out there. | |
| | 3.5 mile in the morning. 6.6 miles after work. |
| | Travel...Family... no running today |
| | Did a tempo type run. Ran at 7,000ft + back home in Torrey, Utah. I ran at a pretty good pace. 1:02:15 for the run. I felt pretty good, got a little tight, I think I went out a little too fast at first. | |
| | Ran 9.2 miles at a pretty good pace. Walked 2 miles with my wife and dog around the golf course. | |
| | 3.5 in the morning 10 mile run after work. Felt pretty good...no issues to speak of. | |
| | 3.5 in the morning 8 miles this afternoon |
| | Fun run with the running club. Good to be out with the boys again. |
| | As luck would have it I couldn't sleep at 4am so I got up and did a run before having to go to the golf thing at 6a.m. I was happy to get this run in after the fact because there would have been no way to get one in any other time today. |
| | Did a run this afternoon. My wife made a big meal and I only waited about one hour after eating it to go running...bad, bad news. Dry heaving all over the place, I wish it would have just came spewing out. The run took me forever. Like 2hrs for the 13. Just keep feeling like I was going to hurl, then I would dry heave then run for a while then the process would start over. Lost 7lbs in that one little jaunt. I really wish I had waited. | |
| | Walked about 5 miles around SF checking things out today. |
| | ran 3.5 in the morning on the TM. Went out on the streets of SF after my meetings. Some of the streets are straight up and down. Just like in the movies with the trollies rolling by and cars parked at 90 degrees so they can't roll down the hill. Did the last 3 or so along Fishermas warf. It was a fun run other than the whole thing was on cement. I hope I don't get injured running on such hard surfaces all week. Tomorrow I think I'll go up by the Golden Gate bridge and look for a good running path or grass. |
| | Did my morning run Then after the meetings that went until 7:15pm today I went out up the shore line twards the Golden Gate. I've never ran against such a stong head wind going up to the bridge. It would almost bring me to a hault. Really worked the legs. I ran up to the bridge and over it, then back down some different trails by the beach, and back to the room. After the run I was so dead that I didn't even go get some food... just got in a bath and went to bed. | |
| | 3.5 am 10 pm ran the streets of SF. The hills and hard surfaces are making me pretty sore. It will be nice to get home and run on some dirt. Then best thing here is the temp 70 degrees is a lot better than 95+.... |
| | 3.5 in the morning Then walked about 7 after meetings down to the ball park and half way back after the game. I'll call it 2.5 |
| | I had to find some time to get this run in today. It was my last day in SF and between meetings and everything else all I got in was a good six. |
| | Finally home again. I got in late last night and did not get up to run this morning. Mik'L and I went hiking today and we had a ton of things to get done. So at 10 o'clock tonight I just went out to get whatever I needed to get to 60 miles for the week. The last part of this week kind of fizzled out but with all my work, and travel I was exited to get 60 miles in. Tonight I ran my 3.5 mile loop twice. The first lap was @ 25 min the second lap was more a tempo pace at 21 something. Not amazingly fast but a pretty good pace. | |
| | 3.5 morning run 12 mile big loop run @ 6:30. It was pretty hot out at least 95 but I needed to get out. I just paced myself and it really wasn't that bad. Around mile 7 I almost stepped on a big grey snake. The sucker came out of nowhere. It scared a few bright words out of me. The last few miles of the run I seemed to be a little crampy but still finished in a regular time. Dropped a few pounds...Saturday afternoon after hiking I was 162, still packing a lot of trashy weight from eating on the trip. Tonight after the run I was 152.5 before I started drinking. | |
| | 3.5 in the am 9 miles from my house to my in-laws. Its a 10 miler but I took a 1 mile short cut. The wind in STG was 59 mph... It felt really good for the 2 miles at my back, but for the 4 at my side and 3 in my face it was murder. |
| | 3.5 in the morning 9 miles up and around Turner Turf Farm. I had planned to do only aroud 6 but it was only like 84 degrees. Days like that in STG don't come around very often in June. I'm feeling pretty flat...I will most likely not run at all on Thursday to give my body some time to rest so I can try and race Friday morning. |
| | Went to the park to run, but noone showed and I was kind of glad cuz my legs were still trashed. |
| | Ran the summer games 10k. Did around a mile warm up. The race went good. I finished in 3rd place, overall... 2nd in my divison. My time was 34:38 around 5:30 pace. I was pretty happy with the results. A young kid from Viewmont won the race then Jose Martinez from St. George took 2nd. I really wanted to beat Jose. I stayed right with those two until the last mile and a half then I started to feel cramped and they pulled away a little more. I think if it was a half or a marathon I can beat Jose in the future. Anyways pretty good race. A lot of downhill- 85% downhill, 10% flat, and 5% or less uphill. | |
| | After the race on Friday we drove up to Park City. The temp up here is soo nice. Did some golfing and shoping. I went out at aroud 3pm today and it was only like 70 degrees... felt so good. I was pretty stiff from the race so I just slugged along for the first 3 or so miles and then the last 2 or so. Just did what I needed to get to the weeks goal. |
| | 3.5 am run 6 miles after work. I went out for a longer run today after work but it was too hot. I waited til 7:30 p.m. and it was still around 100 degrees. So tonight I talked myself into the longer morning runs. Tomorrow I'll start getting up earlier and doing my long run for the day before work. I'll still run in the afternoon after work but only 3-5 miles...that is do-able. Anything more than 5 miles is death in this heat. I've been losing 6-8 lbs every run in water weight, on top of that it zaps my energy to zero. |
| | Did a 9 mile morning run. Ran the truf farm loop. It was nice this morning, but not cool like I thought it would be. It was still around 80-83 degrees at 5:30 a.m. However that feels a lot better than 100...and if its 100 on the news then out on the blacktop street at 6 pm its 105-110. I need a summer home back home in Torrey. Did 3.5 miles tonight. |
| | Did a nice run up in the trails above my house. Saw a rattle snake right in the middle of the trail all coiled up sleeping. I decided to leave it alone and went on my way. Ran 6 more miles tonight from my in-laws around the base of Formaster and up by Costco, under the freeway and back home. | |
| | Did a quick 5 mile run before work...Will do more tonight with the running club. Didn't go to the club. Ran from my house down to Pine View High (2 miles) then ran 3 miles on the track while my wife did a sprint workout. Then we drove home. | |
| | Got up at 4:50 a.m. and ran my 9 mile truff farm loop. Ran it pretty slow, just tried to enjoy the morning and get some miles in. |
| | Did a good run early Saturday morning with the Club. Ran nice and easy for the first 9 or so miles then started to up the tempo the rest of the way in. Felt good until the last mile and a half then stated slowing down. Raced a guy riding a Mt. bike for about 3 and a half miles up the hill. I trailed him for a whle then passed him until we split the trail and went on our ways. He said to me " its hard for me to keep up with you... and I'm on a bike". So after that I felt like the pace wasn't too bad. Because he said he rides 16 miles a day.... Glad to up the miles this week and feel good along the way. | |
| | Ran 7 miles at 5:30 a.m. Then ran 7 miles at 8:00 p.m. |
| | 6.5 in the morning 5.5 in the afternoon. The air quality isn't the best out due to the fires all around us. After my run tonight I came home and had black stuff in the corners of my eyes from all the ash in the air...I guess. |
| | 7-mile morning run. I had a dream last night that I woke up at about 8 a.m. on the day of the St. George Marathon. In my dream I was just doing normal Saturday morning things and I talked to some guy outside of my house and he said "well they are on their way." I said, "who's on their way." "The marathoners," he said. At that moment my whole body went limp and my mind race to realize I'd slept in. I ran in the house and sobbed. Then at that moment the rain came from nowhere and wind like I'd never seen before. Then with in seconds I felt comforted and decided that if it had been bad weather then it wasn't the best circumstances for me to run a PR marathon and achieve my running goals.... Anyways as you can see this was a bad dream, well a nightmare. I hope it means nothing. I'll have every alarm clock in the house set this year just to make sure, and as far as the weather... I guess we are all hoping for good running weather this year for the STGM. Ran out and back for 6 more miles. Before I left I felt great, better than I remember feeling anytime the last few weeks. However about 3 miles into the run I died. It was still around a 100 and my energy level just got zapped. Had to turn around and come home with my tail between my legs. | |
| | Got some good rest last night. Plus I ate and drank some good stuff to fill my tank back to normal. Just did a easy run this morning. Will run a few with the club tonight. Ran around the park area for another 3 miles with the club, had to do some laps at the park to get there. |
| | Drove from my house up the Marathon road here in St. George. The 20 mile mark just happend to fal at the top of Veyo hill. So I started out from the crest of the hill to the top of Dameron Valley its about 3 and a half to 4 mile climb. I ran this part really slow, just couldn't get going. Then once I started the down hills got into a good tempo and came to my halfway point at 1:05.16 that was at Winchestor hills area. Then started my last leg and ran fine until the light where I cut up and hit the skyline drive road. From there it was all very difficult. I just wanted to quit. Still ran a negative split and loged 1:02.20 for my last leg. Total for the run was 2:07.36 ish . I was a little bumb with the time really wanted to run 20 miles at or under 2hrs. This run tells me there is alot of work to do. My only disclaimer is that I haven't tappered off any this week or last to get ready for this run, in fact I've jumped my mileage up. Good thing its June and not September. | |
| | I wanted to get to 80 miles this week but didn't know if I could after the 20 mile run on Friday so I had to play it by ear. The good news was I woke up this morning and felt great- not sore at all after the big run yesterday. So I ran what I needed to get to week goal. |
| | Easy mountain miles at 10,000 ft+ elevation. Legs feeling a little sore now. |
| | No running today. We have been camping for the last few days and today we had to pack up and come home... Got stuck coming off the mountain and about a block after we got out from being stuck we ran out of gas in the old 74 Ford 4x4. Needless to say by the time we got home and unpacked it was to late to do a run. I'll cut back this week and next to give my body some time to heal and to get ready to run the half in Bryce on July 17th. |
| | 9 mile morning run 9 mile afternoon run Felt great this morning. It was cooler than usual and I felt really stronge and healthy. This afternoon was tricky- it wasn't as cool as it looked. Even thought it was overcast it was still around 100 and I talked myself into going out at 6:30 p.m. About 6 miles into the run started to feel dizzy and weak- I was by the hospital so I stopped by my office and called my wife to have her pick my up on the way home. After getting a drink and walking it out I continued on hoping she would show up and rescue me. But I made it home before she finished her stuff at work. Bad run... but glad to get the miles in. | |
| | 7 mile morning run. 8.3 miles with the club Good afternoon run with the club. I had a side ache for the first 3-4 miles. I've had one the last 3 runs...don't get them very much; don't know why I'm getting them now. I've got to find a fix. After the side ache went away I was able to get into a nice grove and felt really good. Pushed the pace from time-to-time along the route. Its nice to get out and run with the guys. I find myself always pushing it harder when I know they are right behind me breathing fire down my neck. | |
| | 5 miles in moring 5 miles in afternoon |
| | Went with the club. It was at least 12 could have been more. Good run. Fun to go up and run around Central. Really nice temp... Steve cooked up some mean French Toast. |
| | Got up at 5a.m. and got a good run in this morning. Maybe the best workout I get all week. We are flying to St.Louis and driving to Nauvoo, IL today for the week. The run went pretty good. I woke up this morning after having a dream that I took a wrong turn in a half marathon that I was winning. It took me out of the race...Scarry dream. So I got up and ran pretty hard thinking about how I would break the tape if I were really winning a half or whole marathon. | |
| | Did a nice loop run around Nauvoo. 3-4 miles right along the Mississippi river. Everything is very green and lush. We spent the day visiting all the historic sites. With my wifes little sister who is on a mission here. |
| | Did most of the same loop as the day before. Today we are leaving early to go over to Carthiage to see the sites there and then come back over to Nauvoo to go to the temple at 11a.m. |
| | Ran a 10k distance ealy before we started our trip home. It was 3.1 miles from our room to the temple so I went down and back. Had a good trip. Body feeling kind of funny. My diet on this trip has sucked as usual when I travel. I feel really "large" and sluggish on my runs out here. Hopefully I can get home and find some order before the race on Saturday morning. |
| | Back home. Got up and did a short 5 mile run this morning before work. My miles suck for this week but I did want to taper off to race the half on Saturday. I may run a couple miles tonight when I get to Bryce Canyon just to help me stay relaxed. Got 2 miles in tonight with Dustin. |
| | Did the Bryce Canyon half. one mile warm up. The race went pretty good. I ran a 1:15.20...the seconds may be off. Finished in 5th place overall. 4th place in mens and 3rd in my age class. Yes I got "chicked". She was pretty dang fast. She passed me on mile marker 3 or so and throughout the race I thought I was going to catch her... I just never did. Same girl who won the ladies St. George Marathon last year. I ran pretty good for most of the race- around mile's 8-9 I started having thoughts that it was beyond me to maintain this pace. However in a mile or so I was feeling better. The course was marked good, I hope it was pretty close in distance. Overall felt good about the race. The $100 cash prize for 4th place in men's was a nice cherry on the top... The elevation drop was around 2000 ft from 7,500 ft or so to 5,500 ft or so. Ran two miles with my wife later in the night. Feeling pretty sore! | |
| | did an nice morning run 5.5 5 miles in the afternoon. Really sore from the run on Saturday. Walking around all day has been painful, even more painful than when I went out to run. Hoping to run the sorness out of my legs... Left foot is very sore still. However running isnt any worse than anything else so I don't think I'll stop. | |
| | 7 miles in the morning 7 miles in the afternoon Still pretty sore but starting to feel better. I'm not sure if I will race on Saturday. I'll have to play it by ear and see how I feel. I'm in no way feeling good enough to race right now. Happy to be still getting miles in, but its all at a real slow pace. |
| | 6 in the morning 6 in the afternoon | |
| | 2 miles in the morning 10.1 miles with the club tonight Google earth said from the road up it was .9 so I'm thinking it was just over 10 last night. Ran the first part pretty nice and easy until we go to the base of Webb Hill. Then I pushed myself to stay with Logan. By the time we got to the top both of us were breathing like smokers. Then on the way back we didn't run all out but clipped right along at a pretty fast pace all the way back to the park. Really good workout. I made it through the workout a lot better than I thought I could due to how sluggish my legs have felt all week. I still think it would be good for me to do a nice easy longer run on Saturday and skip the fast downhill 10k race. I want to go race so bad but just have this feeling like I shouldn't. | |
| | 5 miles at 5 p.m. What a killer! |
| | I went out for a 15 mile run and my wife drove by at mile marker 12 to see how I was doing and I just decided that I'd had enough. Kind of felt like I let the last part of this week slide away, but plan on getting in some good miles next week. |
| | Went with to club on a trail run by Steve's house. Pretty good workout calves felt dead by the end of the run. After we got back to the car I jogged a couple more to cool off. | |
| | 6.5 morning run 6.5 run after work Did both runs at easy pace. Just trying to feel my way into the week. Calves are still a little sore from the hills on Saturday, but starting to feel better. | |
| | 9 miles in the morning. I planned on going out this afternoon and getting 4 or 5 more but ended up in a family activity and not doing anymore. I'll have to make up those miles on Thursday. Feeling good on my runs. I'm finally out of that funk I was in after the half in Bryce... starting to get some MOJO back. | |
| | 9 miles in the morning 9.5 miles with the club Felt really good on both runs. Hoping to stay good and healthy and put some good training weeks together the next 3-4 weeks and really bulk up on my miles. | |
| | 5 in the morning 7.3 in the afternoon Good run this afternoon. Just went out for 5 but it was cooler and I felt good so I pressed on...I'm glad I did because I saw a turtle. I was running out in the reserve down a trail and... holy cow what is that! A pretty big protected by soo many laws- turtle. I didn't think there was really any out here. So I broke a law and pick it up an moved it off the trail- weight 15-20 lbs it was pretty big. I went back later with my wife looking for it with a camera thinking- its a turtle how far can it go... We never found it. |
| | Went out on a version of my big loop with Bill. Pretty hard run. Both of us were feeling the miles from our weeks adding up. Glad I got the miles in- glad that run is over. The only thing we saw was about a 3 inch scorpion that was dead in the road. | |
| | 6.5 in the morning (easy run) 6.5 in the afternoon (speed work) Ran to the Pine View high school track for a 2 mile warm up. Then did some 800's- 1. 2:36 1:19/1:17 2. 2:36 1:18/1:18 3. 2:38 1:22/1:16 4. 2:39 1:23/1:16 Jogged a 800 between each timed 800. At the end did a mile cool down. Took my wife with me to run the stop watch... and you know what- she wouldn't let me cheat. Felt pretty good about keeping them all under 2:40 because there was a good wind and it was give or take- 100 degrees down on the black track. When I finished the workout and got in my wifes car it said it was 100 @ 7:50 pm. The good news is thats 5-10 degrees cooler than it has been. | |
| | 6.5 in the morning 8.2 in the afternoon The weather was just amazing by 8pm tonight. Right around 90 maybe 89- it actually felt refreshing. I ran straight up from my house into the reserve- then hit the main trail over to the water tank- then back down through the industrial park and around to home. Feeling really blessed this week because I want to do 90 miles this week and the weather is making things nice. I don't know if I could do it at 105+ every day like it has been, this extra 10 degrees cooler or so makes it soo much easier to get out and do the miles. | |
| | 6.5 morning run 7 mile afternoon run I felt really sluggish tonight. Just low on energy- I slept bad the night before and had a long day at work. Hope to eat well tonight and get some rest to get ready for the miles I have planned for the last part of the week. |
| | 9 in the morning 9 with the club tonight We left the park and went south down by St. George Ford and then around the black hill up to Bluff and down Triangle St. and then over to the park. Feeling trashed before we started but then a few miles into it felt better. | |
| | 6.5 a.m 5 p.m Saw anouther turtle out on the trail. |
| | Ran from above Leeds to my house. Good weather, pretty good run. One long hill then around a 10 mile drop into St. George. Felt a lot better than I thought I'd feel. Everyone seemed to run without problems. Tempo pace for about 4.5 miles around the end of the run. | |
| | I just could not drag myself out of bed this morning. So I'll have to make up the miles later this week. Just went out at 7p.m. it was about 98 degrees, but the breeze in the air made it feel a little better. I felt really stiff- this being the first run since Saturday. Not sore like I hurt- just stiff like everything is tight and I need to go slow. |
| | 9 a.m. run 9 p.m run Nothing worth mentioning. Ran the same loop from my house up the freeway to the new overpass in Washington then back down through Washington back home. blah | |
| | 6.5 a.m. loop 6.7 p.m. speed work Tonight I went to the track with Mik'L to do some 800's. We show up and the high school football team was having a practice game with the lights on and around 100 people in the stands, so I decided to give them a real show. Each 800 I ran was a little slower than it should have been due to me having to run around people on the track. I had planned on doing 5 but the last two I did the congestion just kept getting worse so I only did 4x800 with 800 jog in between. 2 mile warm up- mile and some cool down. 1- 2:31 1:17/1:14 2- 2:30 1:17/1:13 3- 2:35 1:20/1:15 4- 2:35 1:18/1:17 Pretty good workout. I need to find a lonesome track to do speed work. I'm not really into running with a bunch of football players, coaches, officials, and parents watching me. | |
| | 7 miles a.m. 8 miles p.m. Ran with the club tonight. Feeling a little run down. I'm ready to get this week over. |
| | Got up this morning and did a run up past the water tank and back. |
| | Ran with the club this morning. Went out and drove most of the course and then google earth the rest and it was pretty close to what I have. Pretty good run. We started early in the morning so it wasn't too hot. |
| | 6.5 miles a.m. 8.5 miles p.m. Did a easy morning run. Felt really relaxed and fresh from the rest day. Pushed the pace of the morning run from the halfway point back home. Meet with Steve tonight for a speed workout at the track. A side note- I ate a thick PB and honey sandwich about 2 hours before the workout and thought it would be good to go by the time we started… Well it spent most of the run trying to come back out. On the good side we showed up to a quiet, wind free track that was a lot more relaxing to run on than in front of all the football people. My wife came to time us, and she brought our little puppy to bark at us as we ran by. We ran 2 miles down to the track to warm up. Splits: 1. 2.29 1.14/1.15 2. 2.39 1.20/1.19 3. 2.36 1.21/1.15 4. 2.38 1.21/1.17 5. 2.38 1.19/1.19 6. 2.39 1.16/1.23 As one can see the first 800 was way too fast making us pay the price on the rest of the 8’s. One a good point my goal was to run all 6 under 2.40- and by the skin of my teeth I just made it. The temperature was 98 when we finished. There was no wind, which was nice for running, but not so good for cooling us off. The air was just sitting there stagnate and hot. Happy to have run my goal, although I feel if we’d have ran the first 800 slower we could have finished a little stronger. Overall a good workout, I need one of those a week to gear me up for St. George. | |
| | 6.5 miles in the moring 7 miles p.m. run Tonight went up the dirt trail above my house. To split of trail and over to the water tank then back down the road and over to the house. On a 5 day diarrhea problem. I haven't had too bad of a problem with it in my running career- this is the longest phase I've gone through and I feel it's not over yet. It's really starting to have an impact on me. So I'm going to give it a couple more days and then go see a Dr. about it. |
| | 6.5 miles in the a.m. 8.5 miles in the p.m. Had a good run tonight. Went up from my house to the water tank and down through the industrial park back over to my house. My mind and legs were playing tricks with me. Both of them said "we feel good- lets go faster" So I just kept running at a faster pace until I got to the last half mile and then I started to feel the effects, and I backed off and just costed in. Good day overall- and my stomach problems are starting to go away as well. | |
| | 5 miles in the a.m. 11 miles in the p.m. Meet with the club tonight. We went out around Webb Hill. It's starting to get dark faster and the run tonight felt cooler than it has been. Didn't plan on going that far but felt ok at the end. It's good to be out running with the guys- everyone seems to be running good and feeling healthy. It's been a while since things were that way. One of Dustins fellow teachers has come the last 2 weeks. I hope he finished o.k. | |
| | 6.5 a.m. 2 p.m. Did my morning run, and then took it easy tonight. Did a mile run out and back from my house. |
| | Ran with Dustin and Steve. We did a nice 12 mile loop around Sand Hollow Res. Then when we got back to the car I went out and back from a couple more. Felt like running tonight and went out and did a 8.5 mile loop up around the water tank and down through the industrial park. Felt really good tonight. Hope to taper off next week for the Hobble Creek Half. | |
| | 6.5 morning run 8.5 p.m. run Did speed on the track with Steve tonight. 2 mile warm up. then 6x800 with an 800 recovery between each one, and one mile cool down. Didn't go out to set any records. I was just trying to get a good speedwork out in and then taper off before Hobble Creek. Goal was to run all of them under 2:40 1. 2.39 1.24/1.15 2. 2.38 1.22/1.16 3. 2.36 1.18/1.18 4. 2.38 1.21/1.17 5. 2.31 1.13/1.18 6. 2.39 1.20/1.19 Only pushed it on the 5th one. I wanted to run the last two around 2.35 but went too fast on the 5th and then didn't care on the 6th. | |
| | Only did a run tonight. My legs feel like heavy hamburger. That speed workout on monday must have did a number on me... blah! Today I quit my job at the hospital. Things just were not going right with my expectations of a career there. After about 2 weeks of stress I just had to get out of there. Now... I have no job and do have bills to pay. But Mik'L is doing pretty good with our business and hopefully she can pick up the slack until I find something. It was a hard call to make to leave a career with intermountain health care, but I feel soo much better now that I've left, and I know I'll find something. | |
| | 5 miles in the a.m. 7 miles in the p.m. Legs feel better today that on Tuesday, but they still are very sluggish. Need to get some good rest and food in me the next couple of days. |
| | Ran with the club tonight. Nice and easy. |
| | Hobble Creek Half. 4th place overall, 1st in age- 1:12.27 I think. Went out a little slower and had a hard time getting into a rythem. By mile marker 7 started feeling good and began hunting down people in front of me. Made sure I wasn't chicked this time. By 10.5 I felt like there was a storm building in my stomach...there was! Hopefully it would hold off until the finish. It did and then I spent some quality time in the port-a. Overall I was really happy with the race. Will run some tonight. | |
| | 7 miles in the morning 7 miles tonight Pretty sore from the race on Saturday. Just getting in some easy miles to try and get over it. |
| | Got up and ran 10 miles this morning. We are driving up to Provo today. I may get some more in tonight when we get up there. | |
| | Meet with Sasha and Ted at the crack of dawn. It was nice to meet Sasha in person. Pretty laid back run most of it around 7:30-7min mile pace. Sasha took me on his famous Slate Canyon Loop. It's a lot harder running it than reading about it. We will spend the day up here and then drive home this afternoon. I'll do some more miles tonight. Thanks Sasha. Got home and did a few more. My right knee was killing me- the same pain as before the race on Saturday. I may cut this week back and call it a rest week. | |
| | No running today. My knee was bothering me and it really stressed me out so I called it off today. I think it will be nice to rest, and heal from the race on Saturday. |
| | 5 miles in the a.m. 5 miles in the p.m. Did both runs nice and easy. My knee feels much better. I can still feel a minor pain behind the knee cap. But over all I feel much better. |
| | 8.5 miles in the morning 8.5 miles tonight before the BYU game. Knee feeling pretty good. Have taken IB and also spent time with ice on it. This week I decided to rest and do less miles. I think overall it was a good call. Hope to be feeling good come monday and hit it hard next week. | |
| | 9 miles in the morning 9 miles this afternoon Did both runs around 7-7:40 pace. My knee is still a little sore but feeling better every day. I just can't cut back to 60 this early. Will play it by ear this week and see how I feel. I still feel like I can improve between now and the STGM. Although I will not do any more speed work on the track. May just do some tempo runs as part of a longer workout. If I start to feel pain through this week I'll do less miles. I wanted to do 100 this week but will stay around 80-90 as long as I feel good. I need to use this time while I'm "jobless" to train as good as I can. | |
| | 6.5 miles in the a.m. 6.5 miles in the p.m. blah I was looking on the web and runners corner has updated their web page and made a good link to the Hobble Creek race with some pretty good pictures of the St.George running club, and Chad. http://runners-corner.com/ | |
| | 7 miles in the morning 9.5 miles in the windy night with Bill Felt like not running tonight- but went out with Bill and after the workout felt pretty good. We ran from the running Store down through Santa Clara up around the Hamilin house and then back down through the lava rock area up to softball fields and back up to the running store. I drove it later and it was just over 9.5 miles. | |
| | 8.5 miles in the morning 12.3 miles with the club Meet with the club at the park did 4 miles jogging around the park before the workout. Then Dustin came and we went around the Bloomington Hills loop. It is 8.3 miles. Did a few more than I wanted to today. But it felt good. Really nice cool temp- we ran almost all of it tonight in the rain. 72 feels so much better than 100 for those afternoon runs. | |
| | 7 miles a.m. 5 miles p.m. just getting in the miles. |
| | Ran from Gunlock res down through Ivans and over the last few miles of the marathon course. It's been really nice here in Dixie the last couple days- the rain has cooled it off and it really seems to help the running. Good run today. First few miles were hard- then after the halfway point pushed it in and felt really good considering the miles from the week. When I got to the marathon finish line I did another mile and a half of cool down. | |
| | 6.5 early in the morning 6.5 late in the evening Really starting to feel good. As all ways it takes me a couple weeks to get over a race. I am starting to feel strong and swift again. Tonight did some pick-ups during the run, around 2.5 miles at 800m pace through out the run. Felt good. It was around 9p.m. and the temp was nice and cool. |
| | Got up this morning and went out on my old Big loop run. I haven't ran it much since May. I ran it in the reverse direction and added a little more. Pretty good run. I saw anouther turtle out on the trail. That makes three so far. This one didn't really care if I was around. Just watched me run by. Ran 5 miles tonight after the Big Brother final episode. It sucked. | |
| | 7 miles in the a.m. 5 miles in the p.m. On my morning run I got carried away running back home. I was listening to the Rocky Soundtrack, and dreaming about winning the STGM in 07 or 08, and I hit a mile of pure downhill... With my emotions running high I hit 6th of 7 miles in around 4:45 split. It was fun to run that fast, and then when I got home I cationed myself on how dumb it was. Thats an injury waiting to happen. Did an easy five tonight out on the golf course by my house. I'm starting to get my annual September allergies. I'm already sick of having a runny nose. | |
| | 7 miles in the a.m. 9 miles in the p.m. Had some bad food before the run tonight with the club. Bad day for me... | |
| | Short run late in the afternoon. Still feeling a little sick. |
| | The title of this run is "it sucked" or "the wind blew more than it sucked." I googled it at around 17 miles it may have been a little farther. Running hills and into the wind all day made it feel like 22. Steve and Bill did a good job keeping things fun. I could have stopped anytime after 10. I hate wind. Let's just say if it's windy on marathon day I may stay in bed and I'll come watch you guys finish. | |
| | 8.5 miles this morning 8.5 miles this evening Ran the loop up to the water tank and back down through the industrial park both time today. Pushed the pace on both runs from the water tank down. So around 3 miles per run at 10k pace. Legs, lungs, and body feeling good. My mind however is in this endless stressed out, planning/game plan mode. I'm guessing from now until the marathon will be kind of a mental war. Hope to run a good first half of this week and then see how it goes later on. We are leaving for our fall golf trip to Moab on Thursday. So I'm not sure what kind of miles I'll do in Moab. Saturday morning I may run the Moab half course if I can find it. | |
| | 9 miles in the morning 5 miles in the evening Did the morning run and it felt good. Went about my day and after going to the temple my wife wanted to go get some food. So we went to Red Lobster and I went crazy on the rolls that are amazing. After eating I decided that I wasn't going to go for a run tonight. Then we got home and I paced around thinking about not going out again. It was like not feeding a crying baby, I had to go. So at 9 p.m. I went out and did 5 more. | |
| | 9.5 miles in the morning 6.5 miles this evening On the morning run I had a case of the heavy legs. I just never got in rythem. The whole run was hard and sluggish. Then this evening I was in a different world. After a mile warm up it felt like I was floating. Fast and fun. I'm not sure why I felt so good tonight but I'll be happy if that same guy shows up on any race day. | |
| | ran 9 in stg this morning and 5 more when we got to moab. updating this on a cell phone. | |
| | ran in the moab outback behind the condo. really pretty. |
| | ran back to the condo from 15 miles out. went south of moab past the hole in the rock. 6 miles were some steep uphill the rest was mostly flat. run took an hour and a half. |
| | 3 in the morning 9 in the evening We got home late from Moab Sunday night or early Monday morning so I wasn't feeling as spry as I needed to go out and run this morning. This afternoon I went out. Feeling the need to get a good workout in and burn off all the trash in my system from the weekend. It wasn't the best 9 miles I've ever ran. I had a very hard time finding my stride. As the marathon draws closer I am struggling to find that good running stride that I'll need on race day. It's like I'm running for the first time. No rhythm. | |
| | 7 miles in the morning 7 miles in the evening This morning I ran an easy 7 up into the desert over to the water tank and down the paved road. Did around a mile and a half surge during the run. Then this evening I decided to get one more hard workout in. So I drove over to Webb hill and did the hill 3x. It is around a 9% grade dirt road that is one mile up. Did .6 warm up and .6 cool down. Good workout. Legs feeling it pretty good- not worried still have 10 days left to refuel. | |
| | 2 miles in the morning 5 miles in the evening I wanted to do a lot of things today and running wasn't one of them. Just one of those days. Both runs were low effort, easy runs. |
| | 5 miles in the morning 8 miles in the evening with the club. I didn't think we went that far last night but it still look to be a little more than 8 miles. Felt good tonight- other than my "splash" stop at Harmons to use the restroom. | |
| | ran out of time today and only had time to go out and do a quick 5 miler at around 10k pace due to time. |
| | Ran with the club from the start of the marathon in Central down to around the halfway point. Felt like crap. If I had to race today it would have been bad. Hope to get things back in order before next week. | |
| | 6.5 miles in the morning 5 miles in the evening This morning I went on one of my runs around green spring golf course. I warmed up with 2 miles then did a half mile under 2:40 then jogged a half mile- did this 3x and cooled off with a mile and a half. Good to get the body movin- Tonight went out for an easy 5 miles up the desert trail. Feeling a lot better than on Saturday. This morning I just felt o.k. Then tonight I felt really good. | |
| | Five easy miles this morning. Planned on going out for three more tonight but our home owners association meeting got a little heated and went way long. | |
| | Did an easy run this morning. Feeling a little antsy. The men are healthy, strong and ready to fight all this waiting around is just building up the hype. I may need to hire a sports shrink in the future if I keep running marathons. I couldn't sleep at all last night, and when I did I woke up to three drama filled dreams about running. One of these nightmares actually had me crying in my sleep- which woke my wife. I'll be glad to (hopefully) get this breakthrough marathon over so next time it's not such a big jump. | |
| | 3 miles in the morning 5.5 miles in the evening Ran easy this morning and then relaxed all day. Meet with the club tonight and did an out and back run up the course. It felt good to get out and take some of the stress away. We did a mile tempo run at around 5:20 pace. |
| | Did my final run before the STGM 06'. Nice and easy. Hope everyone has a good race. | |
| Race: |
St. George Marathon (26.2 Miles) 00:02:36, Place overall: 17, Place in age division: 5 | | Wow where to start- What a great day. I’ve been so stressed. A summer full of training paid off big time this morning. Ran a PR of 2:36.12 more than a 22 min PR. I won the Silver Shoe award (Southern Utah’s fastest man at this race) this includes a new Nordic Track treadmill, bread for a year from Great Harvest and a few other little things. 17th overall, 5th in age 25-29. Thanks to everyone along the way, I’m humbled and feel so blessed about todays events. Started the race of kind of in a daze- just running along not really focusing on anything in particular. In doing so I lost track of Dave Holt who I had planned on running with. Now I’m on my own. Passed Chad and his friend and just pushed into Veyo drafting off of unknowns along the way. Then at the hill everyone kind of slowed way down and I couldn’t take it so I lead a group of 5 up the hill. When on top finally bright enough to put on sun glasses. Then worked on the climb out of Dammeron Valley. Pushed it a little hard on the climb just trying to get it over with. Hit the half in 1:20.20 (give or take). Soon after the half Dave Holt and Logan Fielding came up from behind and picked me up. I had slowed down not paying attention and my quads where starting to get stiff- I thought this was going to be trouble later in the race. The three of us clipped along down Snow Canyon and into Winchester Hills and we started coming up on Jose Martinez another St. George resident. Going up the hill by the overpass in Winchester I started to worry about the situation. All four of us running right there were from St. George and eligible to win the Silver Shoe. I had to try and separate myself from these guys and put as much distance as possible between us as I could before the final miles. So I pushed on passing Jose and really trying to focus on proper form, running as efficient as I could, making every stride count. When I came down the hill I passed two others and pushed down Diagonal St. At the corner I looked back to see what kind of breathing room I might have created ( a little). With one mile to go I was at 2:29.30 and knew I could break 2:40 and possibly win the shoe. But at this point I was running alone- no one in front or behind me for 30 seconds or so. So I just tried to hang on and finish. No strong surge at the end, just crossed the line and happy to be there. I could go on for a while with this but better stop here. Good job to the entire St. George Running club, yes you too Dave your one of us now. So you better start coming. Especially good job to Dustin for putting together a really good PR for himself. I forgot to mention a big thanks to Sasha for the blog. I owe 10 min of my PR to the help I've gotten from fastrunningblog.com Three cheers for Sasha!
| | My wife and I did about a 4 mile walk just to take the edge off. |
| | 2.5 easy miles with my wife Mik’L. Legs feeling stiff after sitting from an extended time, but after stretching they feel pretty good. I decided to write down my food intake and training stuff the last couple days before the marathon because I had absolutely no problems with my stomach or going potty during the race. In fact I didn’t have to go #2 from the time at the starting line porta potty until sometime Sunday afternoon. Anyways I’ll find this info useful before my next race and maybe others might benefit from it as well. Thursday Afternoon Ran with the club 5.5 miles with one mile at 5.20 pace at 7p.m. Came home and ate: 1 can salmon (like a can of tuna, but salmon) ½ an avocado 1 bowl of noodles (from Costco or Albertsons) like ramen noodles but in its own bowl 1 mixed 16oz cup of Cytomax from powder 1 banana In bed by 9:30 p.m. and watched TV until 10:20 then tried to sleep Friday 3 mile run @ 9 a.m. Ate: Bowl of Honey nut Cheerios 1 banana 1 mixed drink of Cytomax Got ready and went to Marathon Expo at Noon Drank a 32 oz bottle of Cytomax during the day while out and about Went to lunch at 2 p.m. at Samaria 21 Ate: Chicken Teriyaki Bowl (chicken and noodles) A little tofu soup and some salad 2 ½ sushi (California roll style) Bowl of white rice Water with lemon We messed around town and went home at 5 p.m. Hot Bath Prep for run (all my stuff together) Ate: @ 7 p.m. 1 Bowl of noodles (not the whole thing) 1 apple Drank water Watched “Without limits” In bed by 9 p.m. Day of the race Up at 4 a.m. sharp 2 pieces of wheat toast with very little butter 1 banana ½ a vanilla power bar 1 mixed cup of cytomax from powder Trip to toilet at home Shower and shave * I like to feel fresh for a race Get everything ready and out of the house by 4:45 to meet people at rec center by 5 a.m. Ride up in van with some of the Japanese delegates Ate on ride up: 1 more banana Other half of power bar Sipped on more cytomax At starting line by around 6 a.m. Stretched, talked with others, porta potty 2 times before the race. One trip because I had to go and one trip about 15 min to start just to make sure we were clear for take off. Strip off warm cloths and we are off While running I had bottles mixed with Endurance fuel (GNC product) and plain flavored GU’s at mile markers 11 and 19. That’s about it. I’ll definitely follow something like this in the future and would have paid a good price for something like this in the past. If you have any other questions about this just ask. | |
| | Easy run with my wife up around our church building and back home. |
| | Went out up the trail over to the water tank and down turkey farm road through the industrial park and home. About 5 miles into the run it felt like I was taking a bad trip to "quad city". I think my quads are as sore as they have ever been. Hope they start to feel better soon. | |
| | Travel to Torrey and then to Lake Powell.Starting to feel sick. |
| | Pretty sick. But at the lake so trying to make the most of it. After not catching a fish for over 5 years I pull in 13 today. |
| | Still feeling poor. We came back to Torrey due to bad weather. It rained all day so I came back to St. George and was going to get a run in but after all the driving and sickness I was trashed when I got home. I guess after the last 4 months of training and then after running the marathon my body finally crashed. I'm feeling a little better today (monday) and will start getting some miles in this week. | |
| | Went out for a run this afternoon after taking a few days off. It wasn't pretty. The first 4 miles were uphill. My calves got so tight that my left foot fell asleep while I was running. I can honestly say that's never happened before. I guess it's going to take a few weeks of putting in some miles to get back into the swing of things. | |
| | Some easy miles this morning. Was going to go out from 7 more tonight but forgot about a meeting that went from 6-9 p.m. Should have gone out before we left because after we got home I was ready for bed. | |
| | 8.5 miles in the a.m. 8.5 miles in the evening I know it sounds like a lot at this point but broken up into two runs 10 hours apart takes the sting out of it. I'm starting to feel a lot better. My run on Monday felt like maybe a 3 out of 10 and I'd say todays runs were a 7 and a 8.5 respectively. My only issue is a sore ankle that I rolled on Mondays run. I need to ice it and it should be good to go. | |
| | I had this up once and then deleted it by mistake. An easy 5 mile morning run. 6.3 miles with the club tonight. Ran a little harder the last few miles coming back with Holt. Somewhere around 5:40 pace. Felt good to push it a little. Good game last night between the Mets and Cards- Can I get a what, what- or even a amen to the catch that Chaves made at the wall to end the inning. I wanted the Mets to win but that catch will be a highlight for a long time. So anyways there you have it. Hopefully this will be my last post today. | |
| | 7 miles in the morning 5 miles in the evening Both runs were easy. When I finished the five miler tonight I was trashed. I think I didn't eat enough today- or something... |
| | Meet up with the club early this morning. We went up to the T bone trail and then over to the water tank, down the power line trail and into Middleton, then back on Skyline Dr. I felt ok then just after about 12 miles I was ready to be done. From there in I just putted along. I'm ready to replace all my running shoes. | |
| | 7.8 miles in the morning 7.2 miles in the evening Morning run was a little taxing. Calves were really tight the first 4 miles. I stopped and tryed to loosen them up and it helped- the rest of the run felt good. Evening run was GOOD. Every once in a while you grind the gears and find that one gear where your just floating. Tonight I went out for a 5 mile run and was day dreaming and missed the exit. So I added anouther 2 or so. Running felt effortless, good fast stride. Starting to come around. | |
| | 6.5 miles in the morning 7 miles this evening Both runs felt good. My ankle is still sore from rolling it a few days ago. My food intake the last week and a half is out of control. It's not helping me lose the 4lbs I gained the week after the marathon. I would like to get back to race weight by next Saturday for the Butch Cassidy 10k. If I can continue to feel good between now and then I think I'll be able to PR in the 10k- I guess we will see. | |
| | 7 miles in the morning 6.3 miles in the evening Both runs were pretty good. This evening I went exploring and found some new trails up in my running park. It will be nice to mix it up with the trails I found. Running the same ones all the time was getting old. Pushed it at marathon pace the last three back home. | |
| | 5.5 miles in the morning 9.2 miles in the evening Tonight the club run was good. A new loop! Well kind of- did the Webb hill and Holt said we could take a trail he made off the other side when he was a fire fighter. So we took the trail and came down above the Dixie Center, then back to the park. Good run. I enjoyed the new part a lot. Pushed it a little the last mile or so. | |
| | 6.5 miles in the morning 7 miles in the evening Afternoon run was hard- legs feeling dead. |
| | Meet with the club. Good morning run- a little chilly. I really feel bad for those of you who live in Northern Utah this time of year. Run went good. From Dixie Center over to Bloomington and around the loop there, then under the freeway up into Bloomington Hills and around Webb Hill down River Road to the trail back to Dixie Center. Good 12.5 mile loop. Holt said we were at like 6:50 pace for the run. Pace felt good. The second half felt better than the first. Finally warmed up! | |
| | 6.5 miles in the morning 6.5 miles in the evening easy morning run. Ran some timed miles tonight with Steve. Something like 5:18, 5:21, 5:24 I think. It was at the park in St. George around that block. Kind of slow on the corners, but not too bad. I need speedwork, but it sucks! | |
| | 6.5 miles in the morning 8.5 miles in the evening Both runs were easy. Upper body is pretty sore from doing some outside work on. |
| | 6.5 miles in the morning 7 miles this evening blah! | |
| | Ran with the club tonight. Measured mine and Steve's mile trails. Everybody pretty much voted out mine. Ran back down to the park. Steve and Holt tried to pull a fast one by taking a shortcut but they just cheated themselves. |
| | 5 easy miles before tomorrow's race. |
| Race: |
Butch Cassidy 10k (6.2 Miles) 00:35:31, Place overall: 4, Place in age division: 3 | | Wow. Let's see- Race started and I went out pretty hard but not all out. A couple SUU runners and Holt were out in the lead. I rolled through the first mile and a half then started to really feel cramped (all over the legs) then around mile 2 Steve Olsen comes knocking at my door and we run together for about a half and he starts to go, and my brain says we can go with- but the body can't do it. Just couldn't get out of the hole today. Run the next 2 or so really cramped and then after mile 4 or so I finally start to feel better but by then the damage is already done. Everyone is long gone. 35:31 4th overall. Pretty sad that earlier this year I held 5:30 pace for a half marathon and today I struggle to hit a 5:40 pace in a 10k. I guess I'm just not ready to be racing fast yet. After todays race I felt like my body and mind need a rest from the race prep/ training. So I'm not going to run the Valley of Fire Marathon in November. I'd like to enjoy the wrestling season this year. It's my 5th year as the assistant wrestling coach at Dixie High. This year we've got some good kids that we've been working with for the last few and I expect good things. So I will aim my attention that direction through the winter and try and improve my core fitness while trying to keep my weight down. Did a mile warm up and a few at the hotel in Phoenix. Any who- the race was just o.k. I wasn't pumped by any means, but wasn't really bumbed out. Holt ran a good race. He transformed into a retro 80's guy with his new business in the front, party in the back hair cut and classic old nike flats- And a head band. It was pretty funny. We had to bail pretty quick after the race to catch a flight to Phoenix. Had the honor of enjoying an In-and-Out burger in Vegas before we went to the airport. It hit the spot.
| | 3 easy miles after the first day of wrestling practice. My back is killing me after wrestling with a 250 pounder. | |
| | 3 miles of stair laps in the high school for a.m. practice. 5 miles after p.m. practice. | |
| | 3 miles in the morning at wrestlling with stairs 5 miles in the p.m. around green spring |
| | 3 miles of stair laps in Dixie high school |
| | 3.5 miles to the high school and had wrestling practice then ran back home. Body is feeling really "worked out" Getting stronger core and upper body. Keeping weight down. | |
| | Bill and Steve came over at 4:30 p.m. and we ran from my house down to Pine View High. Holt was there with his running team doing a run-a-thon of some sorts. We ran a few there and then went back to my house. Glad we got out, could have talked myself out of it just as easy. | |
| | 3 miles of stair laps in the morning. 5 miles running to wresling practice, 3.5 miles running home. |
| | 3.5 miles of stair laps at morning practice. | |
| | Four miles with the wrestlers. A good workout today wrestling with the kids. Dropped 4 lbs. |
| | Good run with the STG Running club early this morning. It was cool to start then we climbed Webb hill and I wasn't cool any more. It felt good to get out and run with the boys. May due some miles when we get to Phoenix tonight. |
| | Three miles after wrestling practice. Good workout tonight, body will be sore tomorrow. |
| | Got up early and did a run. Had planned on getting one more run in today but this afternoon/evening was a blurrrrr. Didn't do much at practice today. The guys have a dual tomorrow so we took it easy. | |
| | Easy run tonight. Hope to get some longer runs in over the weekend. |
| | Ran from the house down past Costco and up Formaster Dr. down 700 and up to the park. Did one mile there and then up to the Blvd and back home. Good run. Body feels like it hasn't been getting in the miles. Overall I felt pretty good. |
| | Easy mid morning run. Was going to go out for 7 more but my wife and I shopped until we dropped to take advantage of all the black friday deals. |
| | Meet up with the club. Went from the Dixie Center down into Bloomington then up the trail that heads out into the desert up over by Green Valley. Then Steve's knee was hurting him so Holt and I left him and went up through Green Valley to the top of Bluff. That part is about a 3 mile climb and I was struggling to get it over with. When we got to the top Holt was a couple blocks back and I thought if I stopped I may not get going again. So I continued on down diagnal street and then to main all the way down to the over pass and back to the Dixie Center. Overall it was a good run. I felt good until the last mile or half mile then I started to get stiff. Glad to get in some better miles over this weekend. From now on my wrestling life will take over until the middle of Feb. Next weekend we start our out of town wrestling trips that are Friday and Saturday- Running will be almost impossible. | |
| | Early morning run around Green Springs area. |
| | Google Earth said it was this far. From Dixie High School to the Dixie Center to Flying J, around back of Bloomington Hills, through BH, around Webb Hill, back to the Dixie Center and back to the high school. I had a free hour before wrestling practice so I grabbed a run. | |
| | As the weather gets cold here in sunny St. George I can't help but feel for those poor souls in the north. Todays run was cold. Up in the desert over to the water tank, down turky farm road and then through the industrial park back home. |
| | Throwin' it down to some old school rock and roll. Easy seven from house up to water tank then back down turkey farm road, around twin lakes and back home. |
| | Wrestling meet. Kids took 3rd place out of 16 teams. Overall did good but showed a lot of weaknesses to work on. |
| | Easy run down by the river under the moonlight after wrestling practice tonight. Hope to be able to keep finding time to get some miles in. | |
| | Early morning run. Pretty cool out the first 3 or 4. Then the sun started warming it up a little. Was going to run a few more this afternoon but time slipped away. Still may but chances are low. | |
| | 8.5 miles up into the desert over to the water tank down the turkey road and over through the industrial park to loop around to the house. I'll call this the (industrial loop) from now on. On my last mile Dustin drove by. I felt pretty good considering I'm pretty sick right now. After the run I went to practice and got things going and did anouther mile and a half alway on the run while giving more push-ups to those who chose to coast in practice. Did 90 push-ups myself and 150 sit-ups for a well balanced workout. Then came home early to rest up and try and shake this bug thats taxing my body. | |
| | Crap-O-la today. I had nothing to do all day and it was a wonderful warm above 60 day in Dixie and I was sick. I had planned to run 13-18 miles today and finish off my week because I'll be out of town the rest of the weekend on a wrestling trip. Just got real sick last night and I couldn't get off the couch all day. Sucks. | |
| | Wrestling at Juab High school a 30 team meet |
| | Team finished 4th out of 30 teams. 1. Blackfoot Idaho 2.Davis 3. Shelly Idaho 4. Dixie High We had an o.k. weekend. But no running and feeling crappy from all the junk food I had to eat to stay alive this weekend. | |
| | Busy day. Worked hard then practiced hard. |
| | Got to the high school early and did a quick 4 miles before practice started. | |
| | Four quick miles before our dual with Snow Canyon. | |
| | Had a day to do whatever I wanted so I woke up and got ready to do a big run. I ran the same 20 miler that Bill, Dustin and I ran back on March 25th. According to Dustin's blog we ran it back then at 2:28 or just around 7:25 pace. Today I went out real easy with the goal to just log the miles. However I hit the halfway point (my in-laws house) at one hour straight up and felt like I had been running pretty smooth and easy. But then I wanted to run the second half as close as I could to the first and try and do the 20 right around 2hrs....Well the second half has a few more hills and I started to lose steam and ended up finishing right around 2:10. Which isnt bad for someone who considers themselves out of shape. It was kind of fun to get out and see where I'm at- at the mid winter point/ without a treadmill. Felt pretty good and feel good about the time off this winter. By February when I start cranking up the miles I should be right where I want to be to start the 07' year off. I talked to the guy at Nordic Trac and should have my treadmill in 3-5 days. I ended up spending a little $$$ and upgrading to the Elite modle with a built in TV (for my wife oviously). Well see how I feel tomorrow on my run to see how I really feel? Ride's | |
| | Quick run this morning before going to the high school where I'll spend the rest of the weekend. Legs a little sleepy but not that sore from the run yesterday. Other |
| | Dixie Desert Storm Wrestling Tour all day. 6:30 a.m-9:30p.m. So no time to run. Pretty good day. My wife ran the computers and was able to be there so that was nice. The team finished 3rd out of 16 teams. We had 6 guys make it to the finals but only two took first place. The season is just plugging along- one dual Wednesday night with Hurricane and then Christmas break....then it's almost over. |
| | 4 miles around the high school before wrestling. 3 miles on my new treadmill at the house after setting it up. It's loaded with features (t.v., mp3 hook-up, fans, heart rate chest belt, and much more... but it's still running on a treadmill. Anyways I hope it will help me get some miles in over the winter, and on some really hot days next summer. | |
| | Treadmill miles after a long day. |
| | Four miles on the tread this morning. It's going to be a busy week. Ride |
| | Zero miles today. Busy with work things all morning then we beat it down to Vegas to watch the BYU game. Fun game, glad they won a bowl game this decade. Then we stayed down there last night. |
| | Five miles on the treadmill this evening. Lots of junk food this week. |
| | Shopped all day and then went home and crashed on the floor. |
| | Good day. Woke up in Torrey and had Christmas morning with my family then at 10am we drove the 3 hours back to STG and had Christmas with Mik'L's family at around 2pm. Went home around 5pm with our mega stash and I got in a quick 3 miles on the treadmill before we went back to the in-laws house to play games. |
| | I did my water tank loop around 11am and hope to get some more in this afternoon. My wife gave me a Garmin for Christmas and I've been dieing to run with one. I was really pleased with how close my loop was just from using Google Earth to measure the distance. After my run my "Tool" said I had run 7.08. So I'm looking forward to measuring all my little runs around my house to see how close they are. 6.5 more miles tonight up around Green Spring golf course. Ride p.m. | |
| | This run on the treadmill was only 7 miles but if felt like 17 outside. 49:58 The last half mile was at 2% grade. To cold and rainy all day to talk myself into going out, although I wanted to go use my new toy. |
| | I did a version of my old "Big loop." Up to the powerline trail. Then over to where the trail meets the Millcreek road- From there I ran up and back to the water house and then down to Green Spring golf course. Then made my way back home. I wore some trail shoes that are not as light as other shoes, and they picked up alot of mud off the trail that made them even more taxing to lift. I'm starting to love the garmin. Just being able to take off any direction with no worries is nice. I wore the heart rate part today. Ave heart rate was 164 Yes I'm out of shape. | |
| | Took my car in to get some things done so I left from the dealership. Ran from Blackridge up the hill and down into Bloomington and around the loop. Then I went under the freeway and into Bloomington Hills around Webb Hill. I went back up the bike trail over to river road and then took the other trail back down the river to the Dixie Center and then over to Blackridge. HR 163 Ride's |
| | Good run this morning with the STG Running Club. First half was pretty slow. It was real cold and was hard to get going. Picked up the pace the last couple miles to see if I could even run any more. I put two and two together and came up with- Cold mornings= Slow hard runs. Glad to put together a pretty good week. HR- 148 (a lot lower than last couple of days?) |
