Doing a few more 1/2 marathons this year and continue to support new runners by running with them!

Blessed to live in beautiful Fountain Hills, AZ during winter/spring months then in beautiful Idaho Falls, ID in the summer/fall months!  Thoroughly enjoy hiking, golfing, and running all year round (not into cold winter sports)! Married to Rob for 22 years ~ Two 19 year old college teens!

Beautiful run before Rob left to play golf.  43 degrees, heated up fast though, almost 50 by the time I got home.  8.17 pace.  Upperweights also!  Going to the Phoeniz zoo tonight to see all the Christmas lights.  Huge zoo so this will be a great walk for all of us!

Way to keep up the running, too bad you are not running the HM. Let me know what I can do to help keep you motivated and on track. Think about the HM in Ogden this May! I firmly believe running is great for you!

I am SO STIFF today from doing lower weights yesterday, I almost always do upper weights and figure my legs get enough work-out with running.  Today I power walked about 2 miles after hitting a bucket of balls with my family.  I then did upper weights after stretching my poor legs!

Good luck on the race if you decide to run it. Also, I hope you make it past the 800 mile mark for the year. That would be some bragging rights as far as I'm concerned.

Fun Race - a little sore this evening as I had already ran 10 miles this week as a late training before deciding to run in the race!  I'll be more prepared next year...  I did however beat my 1:59:05 time from last year which was my goal, so overall very happy with the whole experience.

Rob is headed to Idaho tomorrow so I'll have to take the kids out for a bike ride or two this week so I can stretch my legs until he returns.  Thanks to everyone for your support, especially you Jeff!

Walked 4 miles Sundridge area (up & down hills) with Rob while the babes were at a golf lesson. 

I then ran back home from Sunridge which was almost 4 miles with the first 1.75 miles being down hill.  Run pace was 7.53 average due the steep climb down.  77 degrees, beautiful!

Thanks Jeff! We're trying to fit in as much outdoor activities as possible. It's been raining cats and dogs all night and should be raining off & on until Wed!

I'm over-due for a new pair of running shoes, which brand(s) would you recommend? I really like my Asics but wanted to hear your opinion first.

Rachel, as far as shoes go, they are so specific and have such different feel that it is hard to recommend without knowing more about your foot type, pronation and stride. The best bet is to get "fitted" at a specialty running store (there are some in Phoenix) and then look at how they feel and the price you are willing to pay. If you like your Asics, it is never bad to stick with what works. I have always run in Saucony and like their shoes a lot. I tried a pair of Brooks once and did not like them so I took them back.

Thanks Jeff. Not sure if my inner ankle is hurting from power walking in my MBT's or using not so good running shoes before buying my new pair last week. I had a chance to go to a running store and was the only one in there at that time so I had a lot of time to choose. The salesman even let me run around outside in each pair, very nice. I surprised myself by purchasing Nikes. ususally don't wear those do to being on the narrow side but I LOVE THEM! The store also offers group runs on Tues. & Thurs. evenings, I'd love to join them, but I'll see!

We are having a great winter Jeff - As you know, there's so much to do here to stay active! I tried getting in touch with Kami several times this week, she sure keeps busy with all her jobs! I'll try again next week as she'll probably be home with J & K for spring break. Jacob & Mary will be here Tues - Friday :).

Sorry to hear about the shin and ankle pain. Usually a symptom of running too hard/too much or a change due to conditions (e.g. the hill!).

I would tell you to continue to rest, take ibuprofen and ice the ankle and shin. There is a good article about shin pain in the most recent Runner's world magazine as well. When you do start running again, take it really easy and on as much flat as possible (around the lake!). Hope you heal quickly.

Thanks Jeff, my ankle has been hurting since the end of Jan/Beg. of Feb and was hoping my new running shoes would help. My shin pain is defintely a resule to running too fast up a hill while Remi was on his bike getting him to PE on time. It'll be 2 full two weeks tomorrow when it happened. I forget to take ibuprofin so I'll try to remember that over the next few days. My brother-in-law mentioned that I should have two pair of running shoes that I can rotate every other day, should I? I always wear the same pair for about 5 months then just get a new pair.

I noticed the little tease of weather there, seems to happen all the way until late May! (June last year).

Yes, rotating several pairs of shoes is not a bad idea, but I don't think would solve your issue. You are not running enough miles on them per day to make them create issues for you. I track my shoe mileage (the blog can do this for you, just activate the shoe tracker) and typically get about 500-600 miles out of a pair of shoes before they wear out (outsole, cushioning feels dull, etc).

Where is your ankle hurting? If you want to continue to run, you might want to try taping/wrapping it before a run to add some support.

Slower pace today to really be able to concentrate on my run - 8:43 pace. Shin is definitely better and felt only a slight twinge in ankle, I think I'm finally on the mend thanks to your advice Jeff. Along with homeopathic cream on both shin and ankle non-stop, 24 hours of ibuprofin and no run for two days, the run was great.

Might bandage up my ankle for a strenueous hike tomorrow just to be sure!

Ran the Turkey Trot route this morning, three steep grades were a killer but I was able to finish it under 24 minutes at a 7:51 pace!   Hopefully I can keep that for Thurs. morning, I'll have another test run on Tues. morning.  Beautiful 48 degrees when I left, warmed up to 52 - my favorite temps to run in! 

My hips are a little sore from convertng from the TM to outside running, my knee is a little twingy too so I'm back on ipubrofin for a few days...

Beautiful morning sharing a 58 degree temp with hundreds of runners.  The race here has gotten so large, this is the first year we received running chips which makes it so much easier to track time.  I was really hoping to place in my age group (40-49) and was happy with my 3rd place trophy which we used as our centerpiece for our Thanksgiving feast today. 

The race was hard for only 3 miles (mostly because I put more pressure on myself than longer runs) with three steep inclines and I forgot to chew gum which makes me really thirsty so I stopped for water which I would normally not do for only a 3-mile run. 

Favorite part of the race was that my hubby was waiting for me at the finish line!  I usually run this race and then get back home before my family even knows I'm gone!  LOL...

We enjoyed the town's parade afterwards and a houseful of family for the weekend!

I sure am Jeff. We had GREAT weather in Maui last week, never know this time of year and we missed a cold week in Ftn. Hills while we were gone. It's awesome here - not to rub it in but on Sat. at 10am I was able to run outside in a sports bra top and shorts!!!

Tried to do a 10 mile run to decide if I'm going to sign up for the PF Chang 1/2 but my knees were bothering me at the 6.5 mile mark.  I walked them out and then was able to run another mile with no problem.  Going to try again on Friday, I have a 3.5 hilly power walk tonight and a big hike tomorrow so I didn't want to push it!

Hope the knees improve, don't push it and listen to your body. It is only a race. Ice your knees, take some ibuprofen and take it easy, don't put too many long runs too close together.

How are your shoes, are the old? Watch your form and try to land mid foot and not on your heels.

Thanks Jeff, my shoes are fine, I don't run in them all year round (keep them here), so I retire them every Feb! My knees are only due to my arthritis, no pain, just feels and sounds weird. I am going to take ibup. now and until after my hike tomorrow and then a day or two before heading out for another longer run. I may have to not push my luck, forget about the 1/2 and continue to be able to run as I do, elliptical, compete in smaller 5k races! Better than nothing... Happy new year Jeff!
