Blessed to live in beautiful Fountain Hills, AZ during winter/spring months then in beautiful Idaho Falls, ID in the summer/fall months!  Thoroughly enjoy hiking, golfing, and running all year round (not into cold winter sports)! Married to Rob for 22 years ~ Two 19 year old college teens!

Another 10 mile run to prepare for this weekend's HM!  As I don't own a GPS yet, I figured I'd be able to run the first 10 miles at a 9 minute pace, slowing down a little for the last 3 miles.

Thanks Jeff Shadley for encouraging me to run my first 5K in 2005 and now a 1/2 marathon!  I was so nervous leading up to our morning trek to the event at 5:30am but very impressed once there how organized everything was (at the expo too).  As soon as we arrived I was able to calm down, mainly thinking about how Jeff was going to run 26.2 miles in such a short time, unfathonable to me - WOW!  You're AWESOME and such an inspiration to others... 

I wasn't sure which corral had passed once I finally made it through that last horrible porta potty line, so I just started running.   I then of course noticed that my race # was quite a bit lower than those around me, so I just concentrated on my own pace (thanks for loaning me your Garmin Jeff).  I've never run without my shuffle, that was my only concern at this point but obviously I didn't need it as I enjoyed every minute of the run.  As I've never had to guess a race time before I figured it would probably take me about 2.25 hours to run a 1/2 marathon!  As soon as I realized it was easier for me to keep at a 9 minute mile rather than a 9.5 or 10 I then just really really wanted to finish before the 2 hour mark and I did! 

My family headed to the finish line to watch me come in with the other 2:10 mile runners having no idea I was already finished, turned in my chip, had a snack, picked up my UPS bag and waiting in the family reunion area :).

Thanks again Jeff, I wouldn't have done this without you coming to share you family with us for the week, I look forward to doing another - think about coming again!

Welcome to the blog! Great race and time for your first half marathon! Did they not allow Ipods? I am beginning to worry about that because I run with mine everyday.

Thanks Jody, they did allow them, but I had emailed beforehand asking if they were allowed and they said for safety reasons it wasn't recommended. I'd say about 1/4 of the marathoners ran with ipdos and probably half of the 1/2 marathoners had ipods. I did fine without it, maybe even better! I will now probably use mine every other run!

That was an awesome time especially for your first half marathon.

A lot of races are banning ipods or they have always banned them but are now cracking down. Its a USATF rule so any USATF sanctioned event is supposed to follow it.

Ran down steep hill then back up (walked a little going up) after dropping babes at golf course.  This is a hard but beautiful route - seemed harder for me today that the HM!  I look forward to a better run when hubby gets back into town on Friday!

Great longer run for me.  Went up a few hard hills, had to walk a few of them but will beat them evenutally :).  First run with my Garmin Forester 101 (yeah, I'm so excited).  Ran for 54:25 minutes at a 8.51 average mile!  The weather was beautiful at 48 degrees when I left!

Yes, Jeff I got the exact one you loaned me, I LOVE it!

We had a GREAT time at Disney & Universal, pretty much had the parks to ourselves not even having to get off a few rides before going again :)

The weather here has been a tad chilly but definitely perfect for running! My parents are here so I'm trying to squeeze in as much as I can. You are running a ton, wow!

Glad you had a good time on your trip!

The Forerunner is a great training tool, expect to see improvements in your running with the feedback you get from this to tell you pace versus feel.

Yeah, I am trying to keep the mileage up to be ready for spring races. Looking forward to being back down in AZ the end of the month. We are driving down and arriving on Feb. 27, race is 28-29 and we will leave on 3/1. Are you guys in Scottsdale at this time?

We are in N. Scottsdale from the 27th - March 2nd. Keep us updated when you're running through Ftn. Hills in case we are here - I'd love to cheer you all on!

Be careful on those icy roads beforehand so you don't stumble & fall. I twisted my back once from power walking on snowy roads and I wasn't able to work out for about 2 weeks afterwards.

You're going to LOVE being back in this area ~ hope to see you!

Good job. Have fun with the jump rope.

As far as my running, I do most of it early in the morning and at lunch except for weekend longer runs and races. My race schedule is beginning to add up, so I have to watch it before it gets too much on her nerves.

My next race is the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach, VA on March 16. I am in DC for training the week of March 17 so I found this marathon the day before the training started. The Race Director has asked me to pace the Women's Olympic Trial Qualifier race their, so I will be running to get these women across the finish line in 2:45 so they can race to make the Olympic team at the race in Boston this April 20.

You should do the 10K, you could get it done no problem.

I don't know if Kami would run it or not, she is just getting back into running. Also, I will be out of town that day running the Wasatch Back Relay in Utah. But, she may if prompted a little!

Pam did great in the HM, she finished in 2:16 which was about 7 minutes faster than the HM she ran at the beginning of April.

Hi Christi, pretty new - starting here after my first 1/2 marathon in Jan. I homeschool my two cuties so I don't run as much as I'd like, however starting this Sat. I'll be doing long runs with a new group. We'll meet @ 6am so I should get some nice miles in if I can keep up :).

I know jeff from running with him on the Del sol relay in arizona. I got the privelege of driving with him all the way down there, and back. He is a great runner and I would love to be able to finish a marathon like he does! I saw him Saturday at the Ogden marathon also. Thats nice to have a home in Arizona, I would be in heaven if I could run during the winter down there! I grew up in Coeurda'lene and love Idaho! Im doing the vikingman in burley in two weeks. I like vacationing in Redfish, warmlake, and of course lake pendderay by coeurda'lene

Well guys, I have a tummy flu bug thing that started last night and running does not sound fun! I wanted to get one more longer run in before showing up on Sat. morning, hopefully I'll feel better by then.

Walter & Jeff, the relay results were just amazing and crazy, you are both awesome! Didn't you start several hours later then ended up kicking butt? Walter, you possibly ran in our beatiuful az town, Ftn. Hills - I was away that week but would have loved to cheer you both on by the Ftn. and host the whole group, maybe next year!?!?!!

Yes that would have been awesome. Maybe next year we can get you to run it too? I definately had a blast down there with temps in the high 60's coming from slc temps of 15! It was so nice to run in a singlet all night long! I ran at 8pm, 3am, and 9am. so two of my runs were in the dark! We started at 6 pm and by the time I ran my last leg, we had passed everyone. I think we finished around noon or so. If you ever have a chance to do one, you have to try it! I seem to do good when im down there. Its probably on account of the desert running and its lower elevation. Yes definately you have to run or host it next year.

Thanks Jeff - I DID have a great birthday, the Mtn. Home/Boise girls came to steal me for 24 hours before we went to Montana, it was a blast, I survivied the big 40th surprise. We got home from MT on the 29th, left on the 30th for Vegas, had a fun birthday there then flew to FH on the 2nd! Today we're headed to the Diamond Back Baseball game where we'll enjoy fireworks afterwards. As you know, we haven't heard any fireworks here in AZ, but heard a few the night before we left in IF. Hope you hang in there for a few more days of fireworks.

You too have a GREAT 40th! Wish we could make it to your party, perhaps we could celebrate when you return from Cottonwood!

I do jump non-stop, you should try it, there's all different ways you can jump to spice it up especially listening to your ipod at the same time :). Just do single jumps, not double!

It's great to be running outside again in beautiful Ftn. Hills.  Haven't had a runner's high outside in a while.  Temp was 58 degrees, rained most of the night before so it was a beautiful green morning.  8.29 pace!

Thanks Jeff, we had some crazy roads between Cedar City and St. George but made it safe for the night in Mesquite, came a different way this time!

Make sure you come for a run sometime this winter. I know you'll probably miss PF this year due to your FL. trip. Will you do the relay here again?

Waited until later in the afternoon, I wore too many clothes and was too warm (sorry Jeff).  Temp was 69 degrees, prefer to run in the lower 50 temps but no complaints here!  8.05 pace!

Down hill for the first 2.5 miles from Sun Ridge Golf Course - beautiful view on a 69 degree early afternoon!  7.44 pace + upper weights once home!  Happy New Year ~ what a wonderful year of running...  thanks Jeff!

I wish Jeff, I would if you were here and if someone were here to give me a ride down, we really don't want to wake the kids at 5am to take me to the starting line and it would be more fun to have someone to hang with until the race starts. I'd like to do a full marathon sometime this year beating my half marathon time by a few minutes then using the other half to see how much further I could run. I'm just not adventerous enough to do it all alone and as you know, Rob's not that supportive of the whole thing!

My parents arrive two days after to spend the rest of the winter in the area, if only they were coming a few days sooner... Oh well - I'll continue to live vicariously through you...
