| | 3 miles walking this morning. Even if I wanted to run, I doubt I would've been able to. 3 miles of walking really did the trick for getting blood moving and muscles loosening. I'm glad tomorrow is a holiday. (3 in 0:58:23)

Treadmill incline shuffle. 4mph with intermittent 30sec bouts @ 6mph. Good movement in the legs, but I'm still scared of losing my balance every time I step off a stair step or curb! (8.54 in 2:00:00)

| | Easy jog. Enjoying this recovery. (5 in 0:46:26) More easy jogging at lunch time. No need to pick up the pace as all my goal races are done for the year. For now just coasting and taking advantage of off-season things. Focusing on form. Strength training. Getting enough sleep...maybe (4.35 in 0:39:27) |

| | Easy long run. Still a little slow. Not trying to push at all. (13.7 in 2:00:00) So I just committed to pacing the 3:20 group at the STG marathon in 4 weeks. I think it'll work out. Or maybe I'm crazy. |

| | Short race-week workout. Warm up, 3x(1T with 2 min recoveries), cool down. I was able to hold pace just fine on this workout, but didn't feel 100%. I don't think I'm sick, but it has only been 9 days since the marathon, and I can't expect to be recovered already. I'm excited for this weekend's half marathon, but not expecting anything spectacular! Just a fun mother-son tradition! (8.2 in 1:00:24)

Big Cottonwood Half Marathon (13.109 Miles) 01:26:18, Place overall: 33, Place in age division: 4 | | Awesome race today! This was my 4th annual mother-son half marathon with my mom. She traveled up from Texas to race. The bus loading/finish area for this race is also just a mile from my uncle and aunt's house, so extra convenient. This was the night of sleep I've ever had before a race, as I only woke up once before it was time to get up. I had a half bagel with hot chocolate, and then we jogged to the buses. The start line was much colder than expected, and it actually took me about 10 minutes of running in the race before my muscles felt completely loosened up again after shivering. The first mile is the slowest Mike, and my Garmin registered a 6:58 mile. I wanted to take this race conservatively, as I didn't want to burn out on this course and not be able to pace the STG marathon in 3 weeks. The course just kept getting faster though, and we didn't have to do the out-and-back segment that the full marathoners had. I started calm on most of the course, and let quite a few people pass me. Around mile 11, I realized my faster-than-usual times weren't too good to be true and I pushed harder. I barely even slowed down on the level parts, and I think that is due to conditioning from 3 other downhill races this summer. I rolled in at 1:26:18, which is almost 6 minutes faster than any other half marathon I've run before. Good good day! I did a cool down loop and felt great. I also walked a mile back to the house with my family, which showed up en masse to cheer for me and my mom. This evening we drove up the course and onwards to Guardsman's Pass. Then we hiked up the remaining part of the mountain in the north side of the road to the weather station. Felt fine! |

| | Went to bed last night feeling sick. I woke up a little better but I decided not to run anyways. I still got up at the same and did homework instead. Now I feel awesome! I'm definitely going to do a lunch-time run!
Oh man. Running today was pure bliss. I can only think of one or two other times when I have felt this good running. Not that I usually don't feel good...I run almost every day because I like it. It's just times like these where you don't want to stop, and it feels exihilirating to go faster and faster. Too bad it was at work, or I probably would've kept going. (6.44 in 0:50:48)

4.68 very easy at lunch time. It felt really good just slow jogging today. But...disaster might have struck near the end, as I developed sudden soreness on my lower shin on my left leg.
