I did it, i reached my 60 miles in one week goal :). My foot was hurting so I went back to my old way of running so i can try to let my foot heal. I would love any suggestions for my foot. Anyway, my overall pace was 8:47 and my bpm was between 132 - 138. Thanks for reading and have a good DAY!!

Barry, great work. Where does your foot hurt specifically? How many miles do you have on your training shoes? I recommend a trip to a foot doc if it feels serious, but first I'd see if you can figure out a home remedy first. I've got one bad foot myself, but I've learned how to fix it. Besides, do you really want to hear "you need to stop running" again? BTW, don't forget to get some ice cream today for hitting 60 miles. Later.

WAY TO GO on the 60 miles!!! Great idea about the ice cream. I actually pre-celebrated for you last night and ate the whole carton of Cherry Garcia! I did not know why I was doing it, but now I do :D

I am so sorry the foot is causing you greif! CRUD!!! Ice Ice baby- is my only solution to all pain. My little boys told my husband that "mommy likes to takes baths with ice" They prefer sharks and ty-fighters, to each their own :D Ok- I really dont like it, but it helps. That would be really cool if you could figure out how to fix it like Robert does his.

Thanks, for all the help you have give me! When i went to the doctor yesterday he said that i was changing my running form way too fast and to slowly change is stead all at once. I went to a class last Monday and was shown the proper way of running. So for the last week i have been running that way and my left foot could not handle the change that fast. So now i have a pain on the left side of the left foot around the middle to forward of the foot. I hope that makes sense. So i was hoping that someone might have something to help me with that the doctor or i did not know about. But next week is my cut back week and i am hoping and praying that the rest time will help it get better. I like the ice cream idea, so maybe today or tomorrow i will have some guilt free. Thanks again and have a good night!!

Well thank you for celebrating for me! You make a great cheerleader and even taking one for the team, or should i say eating one for the team! I think either today or tomorrow i will have some ice cream and even eat it guilt free. So no my question is should i eat my ice cream while taking an ice bath or not? Thanks for the message and have a great night. Also, hopefully you will have a better Sunday this week than you had last week ;).

NEVER eat the ice cream in the ice bath, I mean you could, but BOY IS IT COLD!!! I drank my banana chocolate smoothie in the tub on friday and nealy died! I did not warm up unitl- actually I am STILL cold!

Church should be better this week as I am going to take a valuum (sp?) before I go!

Maybe you should post your question to the discussion board. Someone might have a similar situation!

I've got to go feed the troops! They are starting to swarm!

I am not sure how to get to the discussion board. Will you tell me how? Ok I will not eat ice cream while taking a ice bath. But it was a good idea, i think ok maybe not. Hey, my wife is a nurse i might be able to get you some Valium, ;) just kidding.. What's for dinner?

From marion on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 20:44:38

GEt me some Valium!! Ok to get to the discussion board, go to the top of this page and click on the "Discussion forum" link in that long mint green menu bar across the top. Then probably add your question to the training review board or the injury board.

Dinner- Terriyaki Chicken, rice and "green bean-tomato-red onion-cucumber-whatever was ripe in the garden" salad :) It was GOOD!!!!...and it is ALL GONE!!!!

My Hubby and I are off on a date with out teenage daughters and their friends! Woo hoo!!!

Barry, I've had a pain similar to the one you have. Here are some things to consider, but keep in mind I'm no doctor and this all comes from personal experience. 1) falling arch or flat feet, 2) foot strike changes, and 3) shoe selection. The pain you are experiencing might be from a change in your strike (more fore foot or ball strike first). This is causing pressure on your arch, which I found can raidate to the opposite or outside of the of the foot. If you've been a heel to mid foot stiker for a while, you definitely don't want to go to ball striking right away. I strike mostly mid foot to slighly fore foot. I only ball strike during hills and speed work. The doc is right in that you want to make that change very slowly if at all in my opinion (go to mid foot stirke). A falling arch can cause the same thing when untreated with an orthotic device. If you do have falling arches you'll want to think about orthotics or doing more foot and balance exercises. I bit the bullet a couple years ago and bought perscription orthotics (I have a fallen arch on my left foot). Best running related purchase I ever made. Not cheap, but you can try over the counter types (i.e. Spenco) first to see if those work. Lastly, think about having the proper shoe fit from a reputable running store and track the number of miles you put on your shoes. I change mine every 400-500 miles because it beats the alternative. Besides, you're still spending less money than a die hard cyclist. New rims and wheels are pricey you know. Take care.

Thanks so much. I think i will look into buying some prescription orthotics. But my pain is from change in my foot strike, so i will wait before looking into it. Also my shoes only have about 100 - 150 mile on them. But i am looking into buying a second pair so i can alter between them and help save on wear and tear.

Also, what are you training for, Half marathon, full marathon? I am looking into the half to be the one for me. Have you though about the city of tree marathon in Boise. I think Kory and I are going, but i am not for sure. That race is October 5. Something to think about?

Robert- I am glad to hear that you love your orthotics, cause mine come in anytime and they are going to cost a pretty penny, but the Doc said I'd LOVE them. Here's hoping :D
