David was helping with the Devil Dash 5k in his squadron. It was an event to raise money for the Wounded Warrior something or other, scholarship fund. He was over registration and results. I got to the race an hour and a half early to help with registration. Mostly everyone had pre-registered, and came 30 minutes before the race, so it was a little hectic. I have never been on the other side of a race and now I have more appreciation for those that plan events. It's not an easy job and it's nice when people are nice...
Right before the race started, I raced to the bathroom.... Guess that was my warm? I am basically 7 months pregnant and I really wanted to just see how I could handle this race. I wasn't planning to win, unless no one fast showed up, but there were two ladies that I just couldn't catch up to. Having gained nearly 20 pounds, I could really feel my body getting tired by 1.5 miles.
The course ran out onto the flight line and back up a hill to the start, it was a great 5k course I thought! The time on the runway went by really fast and it was fun to see a straight line of runners. It was also a flat course, which I liked. If I get to race next year, I would like to really train and focus on breaking 20 min on this course, I think it would be manageable. Plus the course was measured exactly on, not short!
I came in pleased with my time. Many people were not pleased that a very pregnant lady had passed them. One lady came up to me at the end and said, "There are two people that I don't like passing me in races, pregnant people and presents." I laughed. She told me that at a Jingle Bell run a guy in a huge present box passed her! I was proud to have passed many of my husband's students as well. They were impressed that a pregnant lady could just pass them up.
David won the race, which was really nice. He was a good representation of his squadron. I was impressed that he could help out with the race and come off with the win as well. At the end of the race he ran me in, I rather enjoy that when he comes and cheers me in. Sometimes I even go a bit slower because he is with me. :)
Great race at 27 weeks pregnant!
