Actually got up early for the run today and it was still pretty warm out. Still feeling out of shape and slow. Blah! Went a little over on my minutes - 62. New shoes felt alright, a bit stiff. Hopefully they'll break in quickly. (GT 7.5)

Muggy out this morning (only by SG terms though). Did the LV loop with a couple extensions - AP and Vermillion. Workout was 6x20 seconds at 4.5 with 1:00 jog recovery. Went pretty well, though still a bit slow and exhausted. Remembered to start taking iron again, hopefully that'll help with the exhaustion and blah-ness. (GT 15.3)

Guessing at the miles, just did an easy out-and-back to my dad's office and back (5.5). I've been working the morning shift for the last couple days so getting up early has been necessary - of which I am very glad. The temps are much better at 7am then at 10am. :) (DS 489)

Went out with Jon in the evening, ran around the park twice in the Five Fingers. Felt... interesting. Gave me a blister on my left big toe.

Got up way too early and met up with Mike to do my long run for the week. His wife was nice enough to drop us off on the marathon course and we got going on the run. Started off nice and easy and the running felt good for the first 7-8 miles. Then I had to keep asking Mike to slow down. Come to find out, we'd been doing sub-7's for almost the entire way down! It was so fun to have great company for the run and to get it done nice and early. Though next time Mike, you need to take it easy on me! (GT 25.5)

Slept in a little later than I should've so the run was a bit hot. Went out on the Bloomington loop with an extension right at the end to add an extra half mile. Went pretty well, just relaxed and easy. Finally feeling somewhat in shape... I think starting up the iron supplement and multivitamin are helping too. In any case, I'm glad to be feeling good! Up early this morning for the run. Backwards VT loop, stopped at the Summit to do the weight circuit 4.65 miles into it, then went straight back on the road for the last 2 miles. Had a couple extensions to get it on, but turned out perfect. Still feeling good. 7:59/mi average. (GT 40.8)

Mapped out a new loop last night and did it this morning. Went out from my place to River Road, addend an extension into the Boulders and ran up to 700S, then went west on that until Main, turned south and crossed over onto the trail that parallels Hilton drive and then ran back home by way of the trails. Turned out pretty well, it's good since it has lots of ways I can extend it for more mileage later this summer! Legs  are feeling pretty sore from lifting, just took it really easy on the run. (GT 48.9)

Ran out toward the AZ strip this morning, again took it easy for the most part. In the middle I did 8x20 second pushes with 1:00 recovery. Felt tired, but it went alright. There's a new road that's fenced out past the industrial area, it makes it so that you have to go all the way to Arizona to go out four-wheeling or biking and such. And it gives me less dirt roads to go run on out there. Frustrating. So, instead of taking the new road, I off-roaded a bit to get to the old one. Much better. Anyway, the run was adequate. Then Jonny and I went to Summit and did the weight circuit. (GT 57.5)

Easy run, went out on the LV loop with the Vermillion extension. No watch, just cruised. Went a bit faster than usual, felt good. Arms sore from weights; legs are a little, but not bad. (GT 64.1)

Another way too early, way too fast, way too fun Saturday run! Met up with an enormous group of the running club and got dropped off up on the marathon course. Got going with Nate, Ben and Hayden, who took off with the sole intent to kill me within 5 miles. And I think it worked. First miles were sub-7 and tired me out with all that downhill pounding. Hayden took off like we were just out for a morning stroll a little after we took the turn down Snow Canyon. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, there was even a rainbow. But the run killed me off, definitely. Average of 7:15/mi. Ran into Marcie at the ball fields when we both happened to be taking a pit stop - it was so great to see her! When I took the pit stop, Nate and Ben kept going, so I had to survive the last couple miles alone. And now my legs are pretty thoroughly trashed.  Still, it was fun to have good company again on the long run. (GT 77.3)

Out-and-back past the Summit for a 56 minute run. Stopped on my way back at the gym to do the weight circuit, then finished up the run. And stretched. (GT 93.2)

Saw the midnight showing of Harry Potter 6 (which was pretty awesome), after which, I decided to get my run done so I could sleep in as much as I wanted to. So, at 3:15 am, I headed out on my run around town, which was so fun! Well, I was absolutely exhausted, but it was crazy to see the streets so completely empty of cars. Sometimes, I ran in the middle of the road, just because I could! Stretched out lots when I got home, then went to bed. Slept until 1:15 pm! Nicely done. (GT 102)

Accidentally slept in this morning, after a late night at work, so I ran to Summit and did part of the run inside to escape the heat for a bit. On the way there, I did my 8x20 second pushes @ 4.5 w/1:00 recovery. Then at the gym, I ran 28 minutes on the sweatmill, then did my weight circuit. After that, I ran back home. Barely made it to work on time after! (GT 109.1)

Awesome stuff! I'm so excited and surprised I did so well in the race today! Just pushed hard the whole time and came out on top, time-wise and place-wise. Hamstrings and calves are pretty dead. And I'm depressed to no end that I had to turn down $500. I am planning on doing a blow-by-blow of the race, I just have to work all night first. So tomorrow sometime, hopefully.

Now, for the mile-by-mile breakdown!

1- 6:16, was sure I'd started off too fast, but just stuck with the lead ladies and hoped they'd slow down, chatted a bit with Erica Schramm.

2- 6:24, glad we'd slowed down a bit, still was doing my best to stay with a group of about 5 women nearby, was thinking how dead I was going to be for the second half if we stayed this fast for much longer (hilarious, since this was actually my slowest mile).

3- 5:47, the crazy downhill started! Just stuck with the leaders and let the hill take me along for the ride. Way fast.

4- 5:48, still downhill, lost a bit on the first few women but just decided to stay with my rhythm and make it up once it flattened out a bit.

5- 5:51, started reeling in the three ladies ahead of me, tried to cut good tangents and made up some ground when they slowed to get some water.

6- 6:00, finally the course leveled off a bit, by now I'd passed one woman and had two ahead, legs getting fatigued.

7- 6:06, at the end of this mile I barely took the lead, which I was certain would be recovered by some better conditioned marathoner, so I was running in fear the rest of the race (half at 39:22).

8- 6:14, with 5 to go I was dying and just kept pushing in hopes of not getting passed.

9- 6:18, so tired, but I was just thinking that 4 miles isn't too far to go... finish it!

10- 6:15, hanging on and pushing, sure someone was right on my tail.

11- 6:16, same as mile 10

12- 6:15, teamed up with a man nearby and helped push it for the last couple miles. So ready to be done!

13.1- 6:16+0:29, finally realized I could actually win this thing, kept pushing with dead legs and cruised into the finish.

Realized right after the finish how close I was to breaking 1:20, but I'm just ecstatic to have run as fast as I did! Met Melanie and got to congratulate her on her awesome finish, plus talked to Erica a bit too. Had such great competition, it was an awesome race. Got to go home with 2 free smoothie coupons, a refund of this year's entry fee, a comp for next year and an ugly trophy! I don't even want to think about all that money I had to turn down... probably won't do this race for another 4 years, so I don't have to turn down that much money ever again. It's just too depressing. But, neglecting that issue, this race was awesome. I pushed harder than I thought I could and managed a huge (6 minute) PR and a win!

Woke up with a pretty awful cough and major congestion. That, coupled with extreme soreness after the half, made me less than able to go run. Just got some good rest and recuperation.

Started off on the Bloomington Loop 8-miler, but my body was still in recovery mode.  So, in favor of not passing out, I took the Vermillion shortcut home by the Flying J and was happy with 6 miles. (GT 121.2)

Did the weight circuit at Summit afterwards.

Again cut the run short, almost feeling recovered but the congestion makes the breathing hard. Took off out on River Road and, due to my lack of imagination, just stayed on it until I turned back toward home. 70 minutes total. (GT 129.7)

Finally did my whole workout today! Slept through the 7am alarm, so I had to go out at 9:30 when I actually woke up -- eew. The heat was sucky. Did the reverse LV/Fields Loop. Did 8x20 second pushes througout (though I forgot my watch, so those times were estimated) with 1:00 recovery a couple miles into the run. Stopped at the Summit to do the weight circuit near the end. Good run for what it was, I guess. (GT 137.7)

Ran from our campsite at Pine Lake for 24 minutes out and back. 8200 feet in elevation and a lot of uphill on the way back to camp made it a bit less fun than my average run. (GT 143.7)

Didn't much feel like running back up the dirt road to camp, so I just ran out from the camp toward highway 12 for fourteen miles and had my mom come pick me up when I was done. She forgot, so I got in about 2 miles of a cooldown walking back toward camp. Tiring run, but not too bad considering. Average of 8:08 per mile. (GT 157.8)

So last night I planned out this perfect 11-mile run for this morning! But I ran too slow so it ended up being too long... blah. And I had some running math problems too! Somehow I thought that 8x1:30 (12) plus 7x2:00 (14) was 36 minutes instead of 26, so I started my pushes at an inopportune time instead of waiting until I could do most of them downhill or flat. Unfortunate. Anyway... I did 8x1:30 pushes at 3 w/2:00 recovery in the middle of the run. Felt pretty wiped out from the get-go, so they weren't very fast or good-feeling. Oh well. (GT 168.5)

Great run today. Started off the run with a neighbor who wanted to try his hand at running. He made it almost a mile and was warn out, so he turned back. I continued on the LV/Fields loop, when I came around to the Summit, I went in and did my weight circuit, then finished the run back home. Went pretty well. (GT 176.6)

Did a version of the Vermillion/LV loop that extended out to the Summit and back so I could do my weight circuit. About 10 minutes in, I started the 8x20 second pushes at 4.5 - forgot that the recovery was supposed to be 1:00, did 40 seconds instead. Randomly, Nikki J drove up next to me in her car as I ran and we talked a bit. Funny stuff. (GT 196.5)
