| I met Lisa and Michelle N. at Riverton High. We ran the 7 mile loop and then Michelle and I ran 1 more mile. The pace was pretty slow, but with the cold air it didn't feel as easy as it should have. |

It's hard to run with the group and feel like I am sooo slow and out of shape. I know I just need to be more consistant with my outdoor running.
I met the group at Bingham. We warmed up and did some hill sprints on the hill behind Bingham. Then we did 2 x 2 mile repeats and cooled down back to the cars.
I remember when those 2 miles felt much easier and the pace was a lot faster. I ran the repeats at about an 8:00 average, but I was breathing way too hard.
The Riverton 1/2 next week is going to be a slow one.

I met Lisa, Cheris, Michelle M. and Rachel at the District. We ran up to Daybreak, over to 10200 and looped around back to the cars. It was a good run. The weather was perfect in the mid 40's. I'm still slow, but I know I'll start to see improvement.
Taylor ran the 1500 last night for the first time in 4:57. I wish I could have been there to watch her. Today she runs the 800 and 4x4. Go Taylor.

I had the day off work, so I met Lisa for a run. We ran 6 miles from the high school. I came home and ran another 3 miles. 9 miles is longest run in months. After the kids left for school, I did the P90X stretch video. My hamstrings and butt feel so tight when I run. I really think my running would improve if I stretched more often. |

| I paced the 1:50 group at the Drop 13 1/2 marathon with Michelle. It was so much fun!!! I can see how being a pacer could be addicting. This course is very downhill, but I loved it. The pace felt really relaxed and the miles just flew by. Several people thanked us at the end. This was great practice for the Big Cottonwood Marathon. |

I'm on vacation this week!!! I met the BBK's at the Riverfront Park. We warmed up for 1 mile and then ran some repeats of 5 minutes hard and 3 minutes easy on the trail. The first 5 minutes I made it to just under 3/4 a mile. I'm not sure what the other "5 minutes hard" times were, but I'm sure I slowed down some. We ran an easy mile back to the cars. Then Michelle and I ran another 2.5. Taylor thinks I'm faking being sore. It's crazy that running doesn't hurt, but I'm still walking funny. Average pace 8:28.

| I woke to the sound of rain. Taylor and I were volunteers and had to be to the park at 5:30. It was a little chaotic before the race. I didn't get a warm up, so I decided to just take the first mile nice and easy. It was very humid this morning. I didn't really have a time goal in mind. I just ran. I hate to admit that I even walked two or three times, but never for more than a few seconds. I really need to start putting in more miles. I can't believe the Big Cottonwood marathon is only 2 1/2 months away. That makes me nervous. Anyway, I feel like I finished strong. It's hard to believe that I ran this race over three minutes faster a few years ago. Oh well. My miles were 7:52, 7:29, 7:48, 7:54, 8:21 (this is mile I walked a few times), 7:48 and 7:12 pace for the final .28. I always measure this course a little long. Average 7:51. I came home and cooled down with Taylor for a mile. She took 2nd overall in the 5k. Sadly, runnercard had her listed in the 1 mile fun run and they gave her plaque away to someone else before she could say anything. |

| Jared drove us 12 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon this morning and dropped me, Michelle and Kris off. We then ran down the canyon. It was a little scary a few times. There was some kind of a bike race going on. Luckily, they were are going uphill. I never felt all that fantastic. At the bottom, Kris left and Michelle and I ran another 6 miles back to the car at Cottonwood High School. We wanted to get a feel of how hard the marathon will be once we come out of the canyon. I was tired, but it didn't feel too bad and we still maintained a decent pace. We finished in 2:26:03. Miles were 8:19, 8:04, 8:01, 8:18, 8:21, 8:04, 7:34, 7:47, 7:41, 7:49, 7:46, 7:58 (last canyon mile), 8:01 8:19, 8:21, 8:34, 8:32, 8:25. Average 8:07. I met up with them pretty quickly and I could tell that the pace was a little fast for me. I ran with the group for a few miles, then I let them go ahead. I would catch them each time they regrouped and run with them for a little bit. We ran out on Wasatch until the Little Cottonwood Canyon road and then turned around. It was not an easy run! | Taylor and I decided to do a trail run today. We started at the Orson Hyde trailhead. We ran South for about 3.7 miles and came out by the equestrian park. We ran back to the car on Highland Drive. That had some serious uphill. We were only at 5 miles so ran out on the trail for another mile and turned around and ran back. It was a hard run, but it was a nice change. | At the last minute Michelle couldn't make it. I headed out on my own at 6:00 AM. I ran uphill most of the 5 miles to the lake. Then I circled the lake for 3 miles and ran up 11400 and turned North on to the Mountain View Corridor trail until I hit 10 miles. Then I turned around and ran the same way back home. It was a decent run, but 20 miles is hard to run by yourself. |

| This was a fun race. Neither my ankle or my knee bothered me at all. My goal was to run 1:40 or faster. I wish it was faster, but I haven't done any speed work. The first mile was crazy. It was tough trying to weave around the slower runners. I tried staying with Curt, but after about 2 miles he pulled ahead. I carried my bottle with Gatorade for the first 6 miles. I didn't stop at the first aid station. I like doing that at marathons, but I don't think I'll do that at a half marathon again. I had GUs at miles 6 and 10. I felt pretty tired the last few miles and wanted to walk. I told Alex before he left for his mission that I was going to dedicate my races to him. So I kept reminding myself that "I can do hard things". The last mile I tried to pick up the pace to make sure I didn't go over 1:40. I didn't have any stomach issues. Yeah. I had a banana and a poptart for breakfast. My splits were: 7:40, 7:27, 7:35, 7:31, 7:41, 7:37, 7:45, 7:58, 7:37, 7:55, 8:26, 7:48 and 7:39 (.97). |

| The plan was for Michelle to pick me up at then meet Angela at Porcupine Grill at 6:10. Michelle called at 5:40 to let me know her car had been stolen from her garage and she couldn't go. I felt so bad for her. :( I picked up Angela at Porcupine and we drove 14 miles up Big Cottonwood to the Brighton store. I had planned on running 20, but without Michelle I just couldn't talk myself into it. Angela and I kept a pretty good pace. I had a bad side stitch on my left side for about a mile. That was painful. I still felt fatigued from running Hobble Creek last week so maybe it was good I didn't run the full 20. That means I will most likely run 20 next week. I actually ran the 13 miles today faster than I ran Hobble Creek. My time for the 14 miles was 1:46. Average pace 7:35. I'm hoping if I run 20-30 seconds per mile slower for the Big Cottonwood Marathon the last 12 won't be too miserable. |

I think I averaged about an 8:00 mile. I cooled down for another mile and then went to work and ran on the treadmill until I hit 10 miles for the day. It was a miserably hot day at work. Second day in a row without air conditioning.

Last night when I got home, my calves, ankles and feet were so swollen and they just hurt. I was way dehydrated. I put my compression socks on and they were so tight it was painful. Anyway, I didn't want to back out on Angela, so I stuck to the plan. I ran 14 miles on the trail. Angela wanted downhill so she ran from Suncrest and we met on 12600 and ran 6 more miles together. I'm so glad that is over. I don't know if I have really been running enough to taper, but I think I will.

| It's been a busy week. I had class start Monday and a graduation Wednesday. I feel like I can finally relax.

| I'm writing this report over a month later. I know I'll be mad at myself if I don't record some of the details I remember. I went up by myself and got on the second bus going up to the top. It was pretty cold at the top. I wrapped up in my mylar blanket, laid my garbage bag on the side of the mountain and just tried to rest until the race started. Another bus got high centered on the way up and caused the race to delayed. I had hoped to run with the 3:35 pace group, but I could never see them at the beginning.
I tried to just to just keep the pace under control. My splits were:
Miles 1-5 8:03, 7:54, 7:38, 7:32, 7:27 (5 miles in 38:36)
Miles 6-10 7:30, 7:40, 9:45, 7:39, 8:04 (10 miles in 1:19) (I had to wait in line for the porta potty at mile 8 forever. It was frustrating, but I had no choice)
Miles 11-15 7:46, 7:44, 7:28, 7:48 9:24 (15 miles in 1:59) (Another porta potty stop at mile 15)
Miles 16-20 8:02, 8:24, 8:17, 8:33, 10:06 (20 miles in 2:42) (The wheels started coming off just before mile 20. My legs were beat and I was falling apart.)
Miles 21-25 11:41, 12:16, 11:21, 11:56, 10:43 (25 miles in 3:40) (I obviously was walking more than I was running. I was so disappointed in myself and I hated this section of the race.)
Miles 26 and last long .37 9:50 and 9:01 pace for the .37 (The good news is I did pass 2 girls that I had been leap frogging with for several miles. That helped me push hard at the end.
My awesome sister Angela ran the 1/2 and waited around for me to finish. I was so happy to see her there. She's the best.
There were a lot of things I liked about this race, but I don't know if I will do it again for awhile.

| I met the group at Cheris' house. We ran out to 13400 and then turned left on the Mountain View Corridor. We looped back to Cheris' house and then ran another 3 miles. I felt really good the first 6 miles. It was hard but I felt strong up the hills. The last 4-5 miles were hard. I worry that I'm letting my expedition team down. Two more weeks. Average pace 8:28.

The we ran back to cars. I ran with Michelle M. until I hit 6 miles. My splits were 8:54, 7:37, 7:10, 7:31, 8:04 and 8:50. Average pace 8:02.

Taylor and I met the group at the church on 10200 and 4000th. We warmed up for about 1.3 miles. Then we ran a 4.5 mile tempo run which included uphill in the beginning and a steep downhill finish. Then we cooled down after. My splits were 9:10, 8:14, 8:02, 8:43, 7:38, 8:22, and 8:51. Average pace 8:27.

| Met the group at the Kmart in Draper. We ran a slow mile warm up and ended back at the cars. Then we ran out to Wasatch Blvd. We went out 4.5 and back. The hill was hard as usual. I did walk a few times, but never for too long. It was a tough run. I was beat the rest of the day. My splits were 9:33, 8:39, 8:44, 10:06, 8:41, 8:34, 8:11, 7:06, 7:45, and 7:57. Avg. 8:32.
