"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

pm edit: so i took a look back at my running one year ago and now am wondering who that person was last year. pretty motivating to read through the whole month (although August 2012 was pretty insane for me as well). i suppose i can get to that kind of mileage again - but i'm not as motivated without some kind of goal. here's to a safe buildup these next few weeks.

a year ago my total mileage for the year up through March 12th was 551.3 miles. this year? 148.1 miles...hi, my name is James, and i'm a hobby jogger...

Hobby jogger? Nah. You can't always be on. Physically and mentally you'll break down. I think the break you've had the last 10 weeks will allow you to assimilate all the mileage from last year, and take things to a new level. If a goal starts the itch, great. Otherwise, I'd wait till something strikes a chord. Forcing miles just for miles sake is de-motivating.

You proved consistency in 2012. While you ramp up, don't forget the old 10% rule...
