Austin! It's 4x100, you crazy! (Or do you really mean you're doing four .25 mile striders?) ;) Good job on your workout today, you did pretty well!

From Dave Holt on Tue, Feb 05, 2008 at 16:30:25

"maby a little to fast but still better than slow."

NO! NO! NO! A little too fast is not good. A workout is designed to hit times for a specific purpose. I know you can run a 6:00 mile, but that is not the purpose of this workout. You need to learn tempo and that is what this is about.

From Jeff on Tue, Feb 05, 2008 at 18:14:34

I think we went kinda fast. We were practicing our mile race tactics of drafting each other  every 200. So i think thats what got us going a little to fast.

On the way back we caught every  body WALKING!!!! EVERY  ONE!!! and passed them Ha ha ha ha ha ha

AM: This morning it was prity dang hard to get my butt out of  bed and to practice . . . then i had like a vision or something of coach yelling at me to get to practice. . . . so i came!!! :)

It was just me, coach, and tyler.  Kinda cold but still feels good once you get warmed up and running. :)

PM: 4 AT today. Felt just fine. Our mile pace ( mine and kimz) was a few seconds slow, but i still felt like i put in a good work out. :) Im getting race jitters every day now!! :)

333.95 Miles on my shoes. They are holding up great. Thanks for the good pick Steve!!

HURRICANE INVITE: Im Just PR ing all over the place. I woke up at 7 in the morning ( felt kinda worn out) and ate some cereal. Then drove over to the bus and rode to hurricane. during the warm up i felt ready to race. We finaly got up to the line in the race and took off!!! I felt just fine through the race excluding all regular running pains. But what bugged me was that the 3 rd lap sucked. I felt like there was nothing there. But i got new found energy when my team started to pass me up. So i stuck with them and the we all kicked at like 220 and i ended up out kicking them. But i owe them big for the help during the race.

Great job on a sub-5 and a big PR!

I find that the struggle in the middle of the race (dreaded lap 3) is often there, but it helps me to expect it, and to train strongly enough that I know I can make it less and less of a problem over time. Strong training makes you strong enough to get mad at that point in the race and have enough strength to do something about it.

Awesome job outkicking too!

AM: Woke up felt excited to go run. Drove to the school and did my warm up. HILLS TODAY!!!!! The first hill was the toughest because i have forgoten how bad they hurt. Ha ha me and kimz were messing with goolds head by running right behind him up the hill, (Due to his competitiveness) At the top he stoped and about died. Ha ha ha ha i laugh. He is still cool i just like messing with him.

PM:This after noon i played Ultimate with Josh jeff willy and Nathan. I was so tired from our hills this morning. :( but i still love them. ........ at least when we dont have two a days. After that i ran the same as yesterday. Danny ran it with me. He kept pulling ahead of me which kinda bugged me. but i didnt let him mess my pace up. ha ha ha ha :) I just got back playing church ball ..... im going to stay away from it for a while. we played with the old pissed off guys so i kept getting the crap beat out of me. So i called it quits. good thing to. I have a weird pain in my shin but not the muscle. Its the bone it self. A dull pain that has its sharp moments. ANY TIPS??

PM: club run tonight!! Feels good to be out running with the guys again. Today instead of doing our regular run we did the Spectrum 10k route. It felt like a good course. This rae was one of the funest races i have raced. My first 10K. Woo! :) Me and my Dad got the the meeting place to ride the buses up at about 7:30. Then we just chilled for a while till the buses started taking people up. Me and The "Wild Bull" did a warm up and found the rest of the club guys and stretched. When the gun went off i went out with coach and then shortly realized that i was going a little fast so i held back. The rest of the race was chill.. . . . Painfull but chill. I started to get shin splints (Probibly from brand new shoes) at about 3 but i pushed through them. The last .3 was way fun! I worked on my kick and actually passed a guy that was about 50 meeters ahead. Hecka tight race!!! Im looking forward to running more. :)

Everybody will run down to the Trail and then your going to do a speed workout:

(that's the #'s 1/4,1/2,3/4,3/4,1/2,1/4). Do them at current mile race pace except for the first 3/4 and last 1/4 at goal (end of year) mile pace.

Todays races were prity fun. The mile i ran a solid run, not my best but not bad for some sick back stretch winds. 4:57 However in the 2 mile my story was different.... Me kimz and trev kept canyon view out of reach from us. then it was all up to me and kimz to bring home the gold. And i did with kimz right begind me. PR 10:40. not much of a PR but not bad for those hurricane winds. :)

Im really disapointed that we dont get to race in the kanab Fresh/Soph race tomorrow....Oh well......Oh the excitement for practice...today it was over whelming! I dont know what it is about repeats but im always excited for them, till i actually get doing them. But that feeling only lasts for about 1 repeat. Our plan is to hit number 1 4 8 and 10 at goal pace (4:30) and the rest at curent mile pace. (4:52) So about a 1:07 and 1:13.

1: 1:07 Right on Pace, felt just fine.

2: 1:13 strong, quick, powerful.

3: 1:12 Just normal. Wind was a little harder on this one.

4: 1:07 Busted out a good one.

5: 1:13 Consistant.

6: 1:13 Painful but right there.

7: 1:12 Starting to feel the effects of quick repeats.

8: 1:07 Almost done feeling.

9: 1:10 Wanted to get this one over with quck.

And finaly 10: 1:04 Left it all out. Felt tired, but my form and strenght were there to help me through it.

It was weird... I felt better on these with out rest inbetween.... hmm... but i was very pleased with these times. Each one felt painful, yet satisfying for my lust to get better. :) And i want to thank kimz for helping us through those. :)

Good job Austin. Keep running strong and you'll be a big force next year. It's all about how hard you work and how bad you want it. Other than Sunday try not to ever get a day with zero miles- unless you've just had a killer race. If you put the time in over the summer XC will be yours.

I didnt really like the down hill... even though it made a fast course, my legs just didnt agree.  Trevor caught me at about 3.5 till 5. In between i kept surging to make sure he didnt pass me. I woke up this morning feeling like i shouldnt race this race.. But i shruged that off and got up and ready to go. When i got up in Cedar i felt just fine. I was pumped and ready to go. Before the race i was looking at the competition and it looked like i was either 1 or 2 or 3 all were possibilities. I got up the the starting line and felt just like any other race. The gun went off and i let Aron pull me a bit the first mile to get around a 5:05. At this point i was ahead of all my age group competition. But at the turn off to the trail my calfs gave out. Like litteraly. I almost turfed it. So i slowed down a little bit ( my group passed me) to see if it would stop hurting so i could get back up with the pack. Nope. So basically the rest of the race i saw all of my boys (Ross, Josh, Trev, Jeff, and Lindsey) pass me up. Oh and i saw stephanie shrams dad turf it. ha ha ha :) Surprisingly i didnt feel down after the race. I just thought "Your saving them for RAGNAR". So im good. :)

Well where do i begin on this.... Ill start at my first leg of running. It was an easy 3.5. I felt just fine the whole time. Except for my calves.  My time was 20 seconds under prediction and i couldnt have asked for a better leg considering i was still injured. Then after the rest of my comrads ran we ended up back on pace to the predicted time. We stoped at snow basin and cought about an hour of sleep.... Then were back at the painful running part. My second leg was a moderate 6.2. I broke my time by about a 1:30. This leg was the best feeling one. My calves still hurt, but not as bad as i thought they would. And i passed about 17 teams on this one. After that we all went to the school and didnt even sleep. We just wanted to be done and get home. My last leg was 3.6 1st Leg of RAGNAR. :) It was a freaking fun run... i didnt mind the pain.... but i didnt do so well with my legs... this one my calves were on fire. so my time wasnt very good. but not bad for injured. I had lots of fun on this and i am excited for next year already.

AM: Just an easy 3 mile jog with the team to lossen up for our first cross country meet of the season! :)

PM: We did a 2 mile warm up then headed for the starting line. I was racked with mixed emotions of will i do well and how bad its going to hurt. But in the end it all was good. The gun went off and me trev corey and ben went to the front. I led the pack for the first mile and  a quarter. Then Corey came in and took off in front of me. Trevor droped back eairlier so it was just me and ben. I came around the last turn to head to the track and just let it all out! :) I ended up taking second to corey and in front of ben. Our boys killed at this meet with 21 points. :)

HURRICANE INVITATIONAL! :) This is my favorite race of the whole year, and thus far in my career as a high school runner. We started out with a 2 mile warm up. During the warm up i was thinking of all the things that i need to acomplish during the race. When we got to the line i was perfectly ready. I wasnt even as nervous as the canyon view meet. When i started i took off with Hayden Karl and a cedar kid. But at the top of the hill decided not to chase them. My first mile was a bit to fast. 5:03 But the rest of the race i did really well. I shook a cedar kid off my back and brought up Corey and Trev to pack together. The last sprint was so much fun. I ran basically exactly what i wanted to. And corey and trevor were just a few seconds behind me, making it possible for us to win the meet. So we won the meet thanks to our great coach and all that he has us do.  2-0 baby!!

But now that i think about it i actually like that feeling. :) So the race started and i was in first till about after the first 800. I just wanted to get out. The race felt good, i really had to work though  whew! But all in all i didnt beat trevor or kimz they were a few seconds ahead but i did beat the cedar kid that i needed to beat! ha ha Im really a lucky person to have such a great varsity team! :)

Im not going to let it bring me down, but build me up for next race.  But i do have to say one heck of a job well done by one of my best buddies on the team corey for getting a freaking fast time! 15:43 is down there! I hope to follow his example in these upcoming races and get some PR's rolling.

Today me and a few from the XC team went out on themarathon course to cheer our old coach on. Little did i know that it was going to be raining and windy! Ugh! terrible. but a fun experience. I just grabed a quick 2 on the course then when i got home i took a nice long nap. Then went out for a 7 but realized i wouldnt be back in time for preisthood session of conference. So i got cut short on this one. :(

PM: I had no knoledge of 800's today.  But thats okay! I love 800's. They are the best!!!

1: 2:34- Nice and easy on the first one.

2: 2:34- Good solid push. Danny was right with us.

3: 2:35- Me and kimz watched danny push out his last one and sat back a little much

4: 2:32- Another solid one, just barley getting to the pain.

5: 2:30- Started our 2 second downward progression

6: 2:28- Pushed hard with Kimz.

7: 2:13- I started my kick at the bottom of the hill to teach my self to push when it kills!!!

Awesome run with my buddie kimzey!

AM: I finally got time to get our and do a run!!!! It felt so good to get the garmin back on the wrist and my tiny shorts!!! I did a loop out through bloomington hills and back. Just an awesome run, felt good, nice temps.  Every thing was perfect, except i would like a running buddie with me.  I get kinda board and start talking to my self.

PM: Coach kimz and i  did the roller coaster run today in the butt cold weather.  But still a very enjoyable run.  My legs feel excelent today, not sure why but i was hammered yesterday.  But i do need to invest in a good pair of running gloves. im going to lose my fingers one of these times. Right as we finished our run it started snowing again. Not bad timing. ;)

PM: Today we decided to do our time trail on the region course at pine view for next year.  Coach, Kimz, Decker, Willy and I were the only ones racing.  We did the course for our warm up, and shortly found out that it was going to be hard with the mudd and the snow.  But still fun.  So we started out and i almost face planted into the mudd! We were all busting up laughing while trying to run fast.  We got to the big loops and coach was infront of me by like 5 m and i couldnt catch him!  I kept slipping!!! My shoes wouldnt grip to get the push to catch him.  But when we were on the pavement i was right up there.  Then on the way down to the finnish i passed coach up and won.  We had a great time. Im really excited for this course. :)

Oh and by the way... you now hold the record for our course! Next time we'll do it right and go for a solid sub 17:00. In race shape, I bet you could go sub 16 on it!

Ugh!!! I feel like crap! Last night at work i could tell that i was going to be sick today, and lo and behold . . . i am.  I know this sounds like a case of wussitus but i feel like crap. Ill be lucky if i can make it through work today without dying!!! This sucks. I was super excited to get the new shoes out and run on them.  And im reading once a runner and its making matters worse, i just plain want to RUN!  But i dont want to get super sick over the christmas break. that would suck.  So ill play it safe today and not run. But sure as heck im going to run later if i feel good!

Got a decent nights sleep, did the paper route and then fell back asleep again.  Then got a super protein breakfast in (4 eggs 2 8 oz glass milk and 2 sasuage patties) then set out on a run.  Today i went out into dogtown and just bummed around. I wanted to keep it close so in case i wasnt feeling to well i could get back with out getting to far out.  That Coach Holt. . . . always wearing me out ;)  But im feeling well now. :)
