Our family is complete with 4 sweet girls. Now it's time for me to shed the weight and get back into running shape for good. I'm ready to work at it again in 2017!

Long-term running goals, Sub 3 hour marathon and 1:20 half marathon.

I'm married to my great husband Riley Cook. He helps me accomplish my running goals. We have 4 daughters Evelyn, Hannah, Nora, and Iris I'm also excited to be running for Utahrunning.com.

This was going to be a good run in Kennewick but I got 4 miles in and realized I lost the key to my van. Riley and I tried to look for it but failed. We had to break into our car. Boo!

This was an easy week for a little break, next week...back at it.

Workout Wednesday 7x400s.  I wanted a workout I could ease back into training after not doing a workout the last 3 weeks. I got through 5 of the 400s then my watch froze and was stuck. I did the last 2 off of feel. Here's the splits for the first 5: 85, 84, 84, 81,83.

I had low expectations for my workout today. I've been sick and didn't feel like doing anything too hard. I opted to do 3 mile tempo at whatever pace I felt like doing. Splits were 6:48, 6:56, 6:46. Nothing impressive but I didn't feel terrible and just wanted to get my legs going. AP 6:51 for the tempo. 2 WP and 2.3 Cool down.

My plan for today was 4x1mile repeats @ 6:20-6:25 pace. I didn't think it was going to feel that difficult, but I ended up struggling with this workout. My 3rd repeat was basically all out and I barely hit the pace I wanted. I also had to battle through a couple icy spots on the roads. After 3x1mile repeats, I decided to finish with an 800. Splits: 6:19, 6:22, 6:23, 3:08. I think I'll need to plan a workout in my long run this week.

I decided to get my long run done early this week since Riley is off today. I started at 6:40 in the morning and ran from my in laws house. There were quite a few hills to climb in my first couple miles. I wanted to do 10 miles, then a 3 mile tempo followed by a 2 mile cool down. The first 10 miles were run up in Shadow Valley, down to Weber State and over to Old Post Rd. I started the tempo at the top of Old Post right on Merrilee's street. I wanted a downhill at the start of my tempo so it could light a fire under me and get me moving, but the bulk of the tempo was down on the regular tempo flat loop in South Ogden. Splits were 6:36, 6:42, 6:36. Running progress today and continued progress with my weight loss this week. Overall AP 8:27

Riley encouraged me to try his trail spikes today so I could run on the snowy trails for a change of scenery. They worked well, I never felt like I was going to slip.

Sariah popped over to my house for a little while to watch my kids while I went for a run. I was only able to fit 41 minutes in. 4.75 mile. Later I hopped on my treadmill for 30 more minutes. 3.5 miles. AP 8:45

Workout Wednesday.

I'm racing a 5k this weekend so I did 5200m worth of work today. I basically didn't know what to do today so, I made up a workout. I did 2x1000 3x800 2x400.

Splits 3:46, 3:48, 3:00, 2:58, 2:58, 85, 84. Overall, good workout.

The weather was terrible today for the 5k but we were already committed to going. We paid and we had child care. With all the snow on the course and the snow still coming down I decided to just go off of effort. Trying for a good time was no longer a concern the moment I looked out the window this morning. I met up with Sariah and Angi for a 3 mile warm up. We did a couple strides and then the race began. It was hard to get going. I felt like those dreams where you're trying so hard to move, but you can't. The footing was slippery to say the least but I'm glad I went out and did it. Even with the snow I had a PR for the year, that's encouraging. I never found out what place I was, I'm guessing 7th or 8th? After the race I did 4 miles more with Sariah and Angi. We went home and I did another 2.5 miles and started feeling sick. Splits for the race: 6:30, 6:43, 6:43, last .13, 44.
