The weather was terrible today for the 5k but we were already committed to going. We paid and we had child care. With all the snow on the course and the snow still coming down I decided to just go off of effort. Trying for a good time was no longer a concern the moment I looked out the window this morning. I met up with Sariah and Angi for a 3 mile warm up. We did a couple strides and then the race began. It was hard to get going. I felt like those dreams where you're trying so hard to move, but you can't. The footing was slippery to say the least but I'm glad I went out and did it. Even with the snow I had a PR for the year, that's encouraging. I never found out what place I was, I'm guessing 7th or 8th? After the race I did 4 miles more with Sariah and Angi. We went home and I did another 2.5 miles and started feeling sick. Splits for the race: 6:30, 6:43, 6:43, last .13, 44.

It was good running with you. Effort run for sure. You've got great pace. Do you also have a shortened back-kick? You seem to get the most out of your pace.

Great Race today to you!! We do the best we can in such terrible weather. I've noticed my back-kick before, hopefully its not to inefficient!

correction *I've NEVER noticed my back-kick.

Great race Ames! I'm proud of you, and you're only going to keep getting faster this season. Keep up the hard work!

Even in your profile pic your back-kick seems minimal. It's not inefficient, though I wonder if it affects your top speed abilities. You remind me of Jen Rhines, she had a shortened stride but she was a phenomenal runner from 1500 to marathon.
