615am- hit the weight room this morning and worked out and did 15 minute run

3pm- 50 minute mustang pass from green springs park this afternoon. the trail was actually in ok condition. me and julien did the full loop while the rest of the guys flipped because they thought the full loop would be too much time and me and julien beat them back. felt good, just a little chest pain. great trail run

Dogtown Half

I picked julien up and we went over to stahlei farms bumpin some loud music in my civic. we caught the shuttle up to the start line and warmed up to a telephone pole and we peed and stretched and went and dropped our warm clothes with his dad. it was so foofing cold. I saw coach which i didnt even know he was going to run with us so that was awesome. The start was way better than last year but they didnt do the cool countdown its whatever i liked that.

We started off in a good fast pack and the first couple miles went by quick. After a few miles our pack was me, carson, mitch, julien, and dave. the hill where the start was last year was a little tough but after that it was downhill all through coral canyon and we were flying and feeling good. At the top of hell hole we lost carson to the porta pottys but the rest of us were doing good and kept it rolling down hell hole all the way to sullivan park. mitch made a move a little befor the hill on washington field road at like mile 11. I tried to get going after him on that down hill but i was too drained to make up any ground. coach and jules were right with me on the turn to go up the road to jakes house. coach took the lead and I went with him and stuck with him, julien just a couple seconds behind us. 300 left I passed coach and kicked it in to the finsh to take 4th, julien 6 seconds behind me and coach 3 seconds behind him.

pretty good race for me. the only reason I like halfs is ive prd everytime so far. juliens a beast he hit like a 9 minute pr. all of us did good really. It shows we'll have a strong base coming into track season. fun fact- my pace for this race was faster than at NXR last november. for the rest of the day I ate food and watched tv it was greattt.

friday i didnt go to school and just helped coach out untill the meet started. me and jose found a huge moth like the size of a small bird and it was dying we thought so we stabbed it with a zip tie to preserve its body. then we hid it. it didnt end up dying. we think it is immortal its probably still alive up in a box in the announcers booth living impaled by a zip tie. coach seeded me slower  than my average times in the 1600 for some reason so I was seeded 1st in the second heat that was a bummer i had to wait forever.Carson dal and julien were in that heat. I think carson and dallen might have barely qualified, julien ran a 436 so they did good. I dont actually remember how i felt in my mile but i didnt do to well I got a 4:43. after that I chilled all day until the 4x800 the marines sponsored the meet or something and I got a free water bottle from the navy. in the 4x8 I ran a 206 split and was our fastest leg by 6 seconds. we took 3rd with like a 840 it was not too quick lol. logan xander and colton all ran 212s.

Saturday was cloudy and a little rainy basically perfect weather for me. started off the morning with carson dallen mitch and julien all easlily state qualifying in the 3200. they ran beast and stuck together it was awesome. before my 800 i downed a mountain dew kickstart. major key alert. My strat in the 8 is just to take the first lap as it comes, stick in with the pack, and then just go for it the second lap. I was in right behind colton logan and xander for the first lap and 2nd lap i got to the outside and started moving. I closed in on spencer ford with 200 left and tried to pass him so hard but i stayed half a step behind him until the finish, hes a hard guy to pass. it was a good race i got a 2:02.49 and i definitely gave it maximum effort so im happy. plus we literelly havent done any fast workouts yet so this is a good starting point i think ill definitly bring that down under 2 minutes this season. after that just hanged with the boys and convinced alli to let me hand out medals. I got to give brooklyn lott 3 medals it was epic. Pv invite is so fun

We were going to try and state q the medly but colin and samson were throwing up and none of the sprinters wanted to do it so coach was like whatever dont worry about it. I ran a 54.8 in my 400 which was good for me I havent ran a 400 in forever it was fun. Macen ran a 54.9 so i barely beat him. It was so cold and windy I hate hurricane that town is garbage. On saturday it was way better.

Hurricane Invite 800m

We hit a lady while playing wall ball and she got real upset and her husband but its not like it hurt or anything, her fat completely absorbed the blow. ran alot of good warmup like 30 minutes.Coach had basically all of us distance guys in the 800. I was seeded 5th. I my goal was to state qualify. There was like 20 guys in our heat and they had us do a waterfall start instead of alleys. I wanted to get out fast though. The gun went off and immediately there was some shoving. Literally my second step I felt someones spikes go into my foot and the sound of my spikes and socks tearing. lol i knew something was up that I could feel the wind against my bare toes. After that terrible start I was pretty far back from the guys who got out good. I tried to get back into it but I was a little distracted with my shoe half torn off. I didnt even feel it hurt untill like 225 left and jensen passed me and I heard carson right behind me so i went hard so he wouldnt beat me. After I finished im not gonna lie I swore it hurt so bad. I limped over to the field and took off what was left of my shoe to see my foot swollen up like it was about to pop. There was one bad cut from a spike but my shoes and socks protected me mostly from that. I had however popped a blood vessel and it was pretty gross. Coach helped me over to a bench and I iced that mutha for the rest of the meet. He also went and chewed out the officials for doing a waterfall start with that many people. I couldnt even put any pressure on my foot at all so I just hopped everywhere. still ran a 205 though

After the meet we went to durangos then later in the day priesthood session then I hung out with macen and we watched stranger things on netflix and ate skittles. That show is good but also creepy as heck. When I went to leave I swear the car unlocked with out me touching my keys and it was scary because that shiz always happens right before the shadow monster takes another person. lol but then i manned up.

DHells Invitational 800

my foot has made an amazing recovery, I couldnt run on it fully until wednesday and it still hurts but its good. dhells invite was this weekend and coach only had me in the 800 so on friday I just drove over to the meet and hung out with paul and ran with him. he was down for taylor ables wedding so thats beast i love hanging with paul, he ran with us on thursday too. Julien went ham in his 1600 and state qualified with a 432 it was epic. saturday the weather blowed. we saw a lady who flipped her car in a ditch on the way over. it was rainy and windy af so I got comfy under the bleachers and chilled for a while. The rain stopped and the wind cooled down a little but not much.

at race time it was just hot and windy.i was seeded 5th and ready to wreck some scrubs. We started in alleys (thank goodnes) and I was in the first one with caleb and jaiden. gun went off, clean start no problems there. we started out fast, i got in at the back of the pack with caleb, kody, and the dh guys. I stuck right behind them through the wind. with 425 left me and jaiden started moving up through the pack, going around the turn jaiden layed off and fell in behind armstrong and I kept going ham and passed everybody and took the lead with 325 left. I kept the lead down the back stretch but hitting the final 175 we were finishing right into a freaking headwind. Caleb had gone right with me and he passed me with 150 left. I was so dead in the last 100 and jaiden was holding back a major kick and passed me at the 50 along with kody so i ended up 4th. But I was good with the way I raced. It is better to pass and get passed then to never to have passed at all. thats the motto because at least that means you went for it. It was so hot by then the sun was out and blazing and still foofin windy. Then for the rest of the meet I hung with coach and paul and carson and we just messed around until the end of the meet it was fun. They didnt put out the times for the 800 so I didnt know i ran a 201 untill after.

DH Distance Carnival 3200m

Garbage race but im still gonna blog it. The 3200 was at 8 but I got there at the start of the meet to watch the multis and the 4x16. we hung Neptune (carsons eagle) underneath the bleachers but then we switched the rope to around his wings since we realized it might be offensive to publicly hang the national bird. hes fine though, he can fly. Neptune is a beast. before we ran there was this little kid watching us bottle flip on a light and he told us we would fail every time. right as he said that jose landed it and we harassed the shiz out of him. but in a fun way. later Miles came from his tennis meet or whatever and he let me take his racket and balls and it was so fun we went and bombed them across the field. good time

We warmed up like 10 minutes. plan for the race was state q for all our guys so we planned on getting a nice pack led by our current state qualifyers. The race started good but kind of slow, the first couple laps were 114s 115s. on lap 5 i took the lead but I was dying and didnt feel very good like in my stomach. our "pack" was not even there. Carson passed me and mitch passed me and I couldnt get racing. Idk what the deal is but do not race well in the 3200. My last 2 laps blowed and i finished and immediatly changed my shoes to cool down. I cooled down alone so I could think. 1015 is not even close to my best and I know ive got to race different if I want to pr. and not to blame my teamates cuz its not their fault at all but we dont know how to pack good. after we ate at in n out it was good.

DHells Distance Carnival and Multis/ 4x800

Showed up at like 9 to the meet even though the 4x8 was at 11. We watched the girls long jump and whenever they did a good jump we did a polite clap, like at a golf tournament. then we watched discus. anyways yeah we just hung around then went for a light warmup at like 1040.

at race time it was hot as. We had no opposition so that was fun. I did a couple strides. ran in my cross spikes. coach just started the race by saying go there wasnt even a gun. I got out nice and quick and got in a rythm realy easy. At the 400 i was like 60. I kept pushing good around the turn and julien hopped in with 250 left and raced me around the last 200. I stayed strong to the finish total time like 202. Colton got the handoff from me. He beasted and ran a 202 as well. The school record is 813 so we were on pace to get it but logans second lap was weak he ended up 206 and xander ran a 208 and we finished 5 seconds off but still a good run. I felt consistant and strong through my run and wasnt really that dead after so that was good. I cooled down like 10 minutes and played football with julien and hung out and watched the hep and the decath. I roasted in the sun it was so hot. Me and carson decided we are going to train for the decathalon through the summer

it was pretty chilly at the meet. I ran in the 1600 with a 437 yeah not great, but the rest of the guys sucked too i was 2nd on the team.  ate some protein and salad to recover before the 800. right before the 800s started a foofing wind storm came. I started out really sucky and had to waste some effort getting out of the very back. then I got moving but the wind kicked my butt on the back straight. decent race though, 2nd in my heat.lol funny story on our cool down we were playing on a swingset and julien jumped off the swings and faceplanted in the wood chips oh man that was funny. lol also carson pulled a muscle in his back in the 32 and now he thinks hes cool but i know the reall reason was because he hurt himself while trying to climb up the firemans pole at the playground. fun times, good trip.

am- 25 minute shakeout run followed by breakfast and AP US History test. finished at like 12 and then we drove up with coach. 90 the whole way and we barely arrived in time

8pm- Herriman invite- 800m/ also 4x400

it was pretty toasty at the meet. me and julien went for a 5 minute shakeout(in my sick new pegasus) because of the long car ride. then we drained and went and warmed up. got back right in time to go spike up and get a couple stride outs I took my caffiene gel but i was supposed to take it like a half hour before. goal for this race was sub 2 and state q.

I started out good and out in front the first 100. The other guys moved around me a bit and I settled in like 6th place or so. the leaders hit a pretty quick first lap  and had a decent gap, not much of a pack going on. my 400 was right around 60 i knew i would need to hit the turn hard. At 450 I was moving pretty good and on the back straight I opened up and started passing. The front 2 guys were still like 25m in head i think but I was catching them. I kicked at 200 left. from 150 out I closed on the northridge kid and on the finish straight I tried to pass him on the outside but he was all over the place. i dont think he was trying to cut me off but he did and I was too tired to get another big move to get around him. just kept pushing till I crossed the line right next to him it was close.

after i finished my teamates came up and were all saying like way to go dude you got it you broke 2 and i felt so good. I still waited to see the official time though, 1:59.4. To someone just watching a 159 isnt crazy good or anything and even to me I still know I can do better. but just the feeling of accomplishing an important goal- even a small one- is something i havent felt in a long time. Julien beasted in his heat and ran like  2:03 haha i knew he wasnt a 207 guy.

I drank some chocolate protein but then I remembered I still had the 4x4 in not too long. cooled down and ran through some sprinklers. got a shirt for being top 6. for the 4x400 it went colin me macen and samson. That was my first time doing a 3 turn stagger. Colin was slow on his leg (55) so I started out in last. I was pretty strong in the middle i passed 1 guy or 2 i cant remember, but my last 100 was pretty weak I was beat ended up a 54 or something. me and macen nailed the handoff. redemption. he ran a 53 and Samson brought us home in like a 52. not a state q but good attempt. after the meet we went to the hotel, got some shiz to eat at the gas station because the garbage wendys employees decide to close an hour early. chilled in the lobby for a while and then watched the end of Nikes breaking 2 marathon attempt. Kipchoge close but not quite, still legendary. what a great day man

4pm- Region 9 - 1600m

this was my first meet ever at cedar and i gotta say i really like their track. and their field the grass is really nice. I had two races the first was the 16 and later the 800 in the medly. I drained my legs a little bit then warmed up with mitch and carson and julien and xander. Coach told us to do some pickups at race pace so we wouldnt go slow idk. We got good and warm it was windy but not terrible.

they had alley starts and I was in the 3rd one on the outside I think, i wasnt seeded very good. the race started I got out fast with the leaders. The first lap was blazin like a 63. I was comfortable still. 2nd lap 67. Nobody was really moving yet. I pushed to the front on the 3rd lap in good rythm and then Jensen and Caleb got moving and passed me with like 550 left but that lap was still 66 or so. I fell back pretty hard after those 2 passed me. my last lap was weak. I needed some more guys around there to push with and get me moving but I just was holding on as best I could for the last bit. Jaiden mustve been sitting behind me he passed me pretty easily in the last 20, im sure the other guys were closing on me too I didnt really kick that last 100. that split was like a 72 I think no bueno. even with that though my 1st and 3rd laps got me a 6 second pr and another state qualifier.

I got a lot of congrats from people after since I finally did a decent race. Ha at first i heard some people saying 427 for my time but turned out 4:30.12 that was a bummer I thought I broke 430. next week at state- sub 430

Later our SMR team beasted, state q by time and place. Jacob Michael and Samson all did great on their legs and I finished us strong  with a 201 around there to take 2nd. 3rd fastest in 3A rn I believe. Listened to some kendrick lamar on the way home.

815am- UHSAA State Championships- 3A 1600m

On friday we got there early and me and the boys went and warmed up on the ted bundy trail. It was kind of chilly, perfect racing weather. I felt great. There was a delay right before our race so we were out on the track for a while. We did some strides and such to stay warm then they called us to the line. I started out pretty good and close to the front didnt have to fight for position., dallen was with me for a bit. first lap 65 around. Jensen and Caleb and jaiden broke away a little. I kept a decent fast pace but I was still chilling. On the3rd lap I woke up a bit and I passed spencer and bryson. they stayed right with me and got moving and passed me back at the start of the 4th. They kind of gapped me but I kept it together and out kicked bryson for 7th overall 4:31. I wasnt bummed about my race but I know I couldve been sub 430 I didnt execute good enough, I didnt get after it where I shouldve. not a bad race at all though it was way fun I love racing at state and Im bummed I didnt medal but im proud I scored a couple points. for the rest of the day I just enjoyed the meet and hung with the homies. we ate at L and Ls again it was good. before bed I bleached my mohawk in jake and carsons room.

started of the day great watching PV in the 3200. I didnt qualify it haha. They guys did great. Carson ran a 928, 1 second off the school record and julien got on the podium as well. that 5a race was legendary, coolest race Ive seen in a while great job to all those guys. More epic stuff kept happening all day and state records and great races. Not gonna lie as the day went by I was getting nervous for my race. I was seeded 6th but ready to throw down. I was pumped.

State Championships- 3A 800m final

Warmed up to the bathrooms by the tennis courts.I did some strides outside of the stadium under the shade to stay cool it was pretty warm out. The first heat a guy ran a 158 (faster than my PR) but I wasnt to worried I knew I was going to pr. When we lined up the starter guy told our alley that he wants us all under 156 and I thought might as well Im not holding back today. I had the same start as my 1600, good behind the lead guys like I wanted no fighting for position. that first 200 was blazing though. lol I was expecting these guys to take it out a little slower the first lap considering caleb already won the 3200 that morning, nah dude we came through at 56/57 and I was barely trying to hold on to them. I didnt ease up for a moment that second lap I wanted so bad to win. my spikes were literally burning my toes. I finished strong with everything I had.  managed to get 5th with a 1:56.7. haha dude that race was so fun. I was after top 3 and I definitely gave it my best but you cant control how fast other guys run. Caden the 3A 800 champ with a .1 lead over caleb who also ran a 153! (i bet their uncle lance gets them the hookups) (thats a joke and idk if they are related to lance armstrong haha). But for real those armstrong brothers are beasts big congrats to both of them. laid down and took a rest and then got super hyped again for the 4x400. I felt like shiz but still split a 52.9. macen and colin also split 52s and samson closed in like a 50. we took 8th and prd. next year will be so dope because we are all juniors. DH won 3A boys and girls titles, they are dang good.

I'll finish up the season by saying how I love track and running alot and I love jesus and heavenly father so much they truly helped me throughout the last while. when you are struggling you just have to not give up. Know who you are and be it, Know what you want and go out and get it. and thanks for Holt and my bros and my family I love them alot. I cleaned up my mohawk and Ima keep it for a while I like it. peace

If your legs were dead you wouldn't be able to feel them at all - let alone run 11 miles on them.

Trust me on this. I'm a professionally trained coach.

7am- 50 minutes half on grass today. yesterday i was climbing a rock face like 15 feet above some water and some bats starteld me so i jumped off and landed too far out where there was a rock shelf. anyways that hurt on my bare feet so thats why i skipped striders cuz my foot is still sore.

before kids club i was hanging with my lil 1st graders and bottle flipping and such. they were all failing and i landed it first try so i said haha yall are garbage i landed it first try ... Then one of the moms was there (like one of the moms that stays with her kid everywhere and homeschools him and such) and she exclaimed to me "that is very innapropriate to call the children garbage". I thought she was kidding though or something and that made me laugh then she said its not a joke dont laugh, its called bullying. in my mind i was like I think its fine but I apologized and offered to apologize to the children (who were off having fun messing around and didnt even care). a couple hours later i sincerely apolagized again but she didnt say anything and gave a rude look. anyways im just sharing this story because psa dont be like that lady. dont get offended by stuff. you dont need that type of negativity in your life.

It was pretty weak I got passed alot but Carson did good and moved up and got 5th. I got 26th and the guys were only like 20 seconds behind me but there was like 30 people inbetween us so our team score ended up sucking. We just need to run a bit better. But also it wasnt a bad race either.

got up at like 730 and got some garbage hotel breakfast. we left around 815 over to eagle island and it took forever because of traffic. that sucked because i have been staying really hydrated so i dont like sitting in the car forever. it was foggy and 38 degrees around so coach had us sit in the car to stay warm. at 11 we went for a warmup. the weather started to clear up and be warmer. I took a gel and a tum and we went to the start.

Julien drew #46 so we were down at the end for the start. I started out really good though, out right behind the leaders. My first mile was good and fast. Carson caught me on the beach and I ran with him for a bit but I was already dying and lost him after the hill. a ton of guys passed me on the second lap. I tried to get moving but I was just slow. Julien passed me right along with everybody else. Mile 3 was trash I just tried to focus on keeping going. I hit the excel zone good but I was so slow up the hill the second time. Logan passed me with like 400 left. I finished hard but still just a bad race.

We all did pretty dang bad. we can bounce back. the important races are region and state though so I think its fine. the drive home sucked it hurt sitting for so long. my hamstring is really sore i'll have to take care of that

When you say your first mile was "good and fast ... right behind the leaders" and then your last mile is "trash"--do you see the correlation?

If you have the guts to trust yourself and run your first mile conservatively then you'll really be able to roar like a lion on your last mile.

What's better, to be 15th after one mile or 15th after 3 miles?

I got out hard for 7 seconds then settled into it. the guys stayed close and we got in a nice pack with josh bryson and a couple other guys. took the hill pretty calm and me and carson went and passed some guys on the top. Julien came up with us, still right together down around the pond and keeping a good pace. On the hill we were right where we needed to be but me and Carson fell back from that pack and julien stuck with it. the last mile was kind of a blur. we kept our position. carson moved up a bit. I held off Ethan and caught Bryson in the last 100m.

when I finished I saw 3 stansbury in front of me and 2 right behind and I knew it wouldnt be enough but nathan and spencer ran good enough to secure our 3rd 2nd place finish in a row. better than 3rd at region lol. Im proud of how we ran but I know we could have won. I was feeling good with it but after I got academic all state I looked at coach and just felt sick. 2nd sucks. we did good but really not much people will know how badly I wanted us to win. its fine though this journeys been legit. to all the people who have been involved Im thankful to everyone, especially my coaches. From Glory in the long run on Mon, Oct 23, 2017 at 04:23:56 from 67.2.84.252

Simply seconds either way. As your region meet shows, any different day can do it. I'd honestly say that between Stansbury, Pineview, Desert Hills and Ogden and even Hurricane any one of those teams could be first.

The race could be run tomorrow and Pineview would win. It's a good lesson for life knowing that seconds is the only difference, one can take that either way. The difference between winning and losing is so small, so one shouldn't berate oneself too much.

You ran well and smart. Do the same at Nike and just enjoy the journey.

1030am- Nike Southwest Regional- Championship Boys Race

we were very prepared for the race. I cant think of anything our coaches could have done better this season to get us ready. we warmed up on a seperate part of the golf course. headed to the start. did a couple striders and such.

The race started good. Despite the huge pack, before mile one me and cars got running together, we were already disconnecting from the lead pack even though we were like 4:57 at the mile mark. Through the next mile me and Carson ran good together, probably shouldve passed more people. At mile 2 it was like 10:16 so we had slowed a good amount. I fell off of carson and had a really bad last mile. the last mile at nike has always been one of my worst. I was able to make up like 15 spots in the last sprint.

twas a bad race for us which was dissapointing but thats how it goes. we got 2nd to last lol. despite us not really achieving our goals, im really proud of our team, proud to be apart of this group of guys. We may not have filled our racing potential but we did good and improved in the process and dedicated to hard work and eachother every day this season. fantastic season and fun trip as always. pretty much my last high school xc race with the team

Footlocker West- Seeded Boys

What a fun time. So when we came to check in yesterday it was discovered to us that the track, stadium, athletic building, and all of the surrounding fields were destroyed and under construction. It only changed the course by the start and finish but also it kind of made it not feel like footlocker. Me logan and carson were in the seeded boys race and we just had a time hanging out and watching races for all morning.

It was like 80 degrees by the time seeded boys got going. The start of the race was all on asphalt as well as the finish so i took my spikes out for this one. it was garbage that they made me start back because there was plenty of room on the front line. The start was pretty good but as soon as we hit the dirt everybody like stopped and started going slow. Through that section untill the valley loop it was really physical and I couldnt go fast there was too many people. valley loop was faster but still just was around mid pack. from there it was just tough and slow. those hills just are so sucky. resevour hill was probably my worst one. then my finish on the asphalt was just tough and hard to find that motivation to go hard.

last highschool xc race ever. twas just awesome and dusty and great. we got dope backpacks and chilled and enjoyed the great state of california . the end

Ran from my grandparents house to the c trail in the snow and ran up that mutha. some fool had gone up there on cross country skis lol. there was a bit of tracks in the snow to follow but it was really icey and slippery. after a while the ski tracks were the only ones left and then they turned back and i was running in my own footprints. twas a fun run and a good christmas.

ran from my house to telegraph, then up washington parkway, then back to my house. worked on form and ran fast. on my pickup on the parkway i extended it all the way up the hill and ran it hard. probably foolish since it took 5 min of slow jogging to recover from.

Why foolish? Hard effort requires recovery. Sounds like a great run to me.
