| Started my run out with my daughters Sarah and Brookie and ran 1.5 miles with them. Then I went off on my own and made it 10.25 miles total. My pace was 7:29 with the slower first couple of miles being close to 10. I ran some 6:15 paces after that. My new years goal is to run 60 mile weeks or 10 a day minus Sunday. So This will up my average miles for the year from 6.25 to 8.575. I feel like this will help my goals of getting my times into the 2:20's and then look at possibly hitting an OTQ for the Olympics. Got to do it quick or Ill miss this go around. |

| Went to the Olympic oval tonight and ran 3 mile warmup and then did a 3 mile tempo run, then did a nice 3 miles of slow recovery running. The cool thing about this track is 11 laps are 3 miles. I have to admit the tempo run was actually hard for me to do. I did it in 17:20. |

We were at a nice comfortable pace and every mile we got quicker. Our last mile was a 7:08 which was great. Thanks Kelli, hope Scott gets his results and can get back at it soon. |

I made some progress on a bathroom in my basement and fumed up our house good with glue smell! haha hahahahaahha ok Im glad I ran because I was higher than a kite and getting 6 in a rain storm cleaned my brain. Now im home again and could smell the fumes pretty good once I opened the door. It was dark, wet and soggy. |

| Had a busy day! Got a viscious Migraine headache this morning at 7 am on the dot. I took 2 of my prescription pills that would work for a normal person of average weight. It hit me within 10 minutes! I was flying! I was so damn dizzy! I actually fell off the ladder at 6 feet up changing a sign. thats when I had to sit down and eat something. pwhew! my skinny bod was overwhelmed! I kicked it though. I came home and did a night run of 6.3 miles and finished in the dark. You know 106th south has been widened and there is a bike lane with extra room to the curb and yet people still seem to drive down the side of the street thinking its a runway to turn right! Oh well. I guess getting hit will teach them! Ill show em! |

| Had a great short lived visit to St. George. Stayed with Terry and Tim Porter. Great running friends! I went to the start of the race and it was 33 degrees. I was hoping for maybe high 40's. No such luck. The sun did come out as I was leaving today at 1:30 though! Thanks! I started the race and my legs felt heavy. the pace was pretty fast and my first mile was 5:45 and it felt like 5:15. I saw a High School buddy who was extremely fast and on my same team named Steve Sumsion. He actually took 2nd in State in Cross Country and ended up running for Utah till they destroyed there running program. He did very well running for Uof U also. He hasnt been running and has some damn much talent. I told him he had to get back in the scene. Anywho, I got to mile 6 and was in 6th overall at that point and a guy named Jose Soccoro passed me and brushed my shoulder! I thought it was kind of weird but let him pass and then he slowed down so I got up next to him and was trying to pass but he kept speeding up. I really didnt care so I let him. He then proceeded to bump me with his arm and body every once in a while and at first I thought he couldnt run in a straight line. I kind of thought he was trying to psych me out so I slowed down on purpose but he matched me. This happened from mile 6 till the finish. I actually got sick of it at mile 9 and ran to the oncoming side of the road to get away from him. He dashed over to my side and bumped me off the shoulder I finally bumped him back and crossed the other side of the road. I have never been in a situation where i had a guy all over me like that! It was a new experience that I didnt want to go to. When I finished my buddy Steve Olsen asked me about him and told me he did the same thing to him in Mesquite half marathon. He chuckled at me when he saw me cross the road. Nice one! It was an honest course that humbled me and will get me running more. It was fun to see so many familiar smiling faces! I wished the weather was better but oh well. |

| Im baaack! I woke up way early today and met Danielle up at Daybreak and did 4 miles with her. We were talking more than running which is good because it was a mopey pace. It was nice to shake the legs from saturdays race. I went to work and put in 10 hours of hard labor then came home and had no desire to run outside so I went to Marvs and did a 6 mile run on the same treadmill that injured me a month ago. I figured I face it and show it who was boss. I did 2 miles of warm up and then a 5k Tempo run at a 5:30 minute mile pace or 10.9 miles an hour. It was so hot upstairs where they keep the machines. I sweat! Yes, its true, I sweat! I did a 1 mile cool down after that. Feel pretty good. |

Went to Bingham High School ran with the BBKs. Did 5 miles and chatted with Kelli for most of the run then Lisa for the last stretch. Feel better now. Got to get my groove back. I lost some of my mojo over the winter. Evening run, I went to Dimple Dell Rec center and ran another boring 5.25 miles on the dreadmill. started out at 7 mph and increased to 8 after 2 miles and then 9 on the 3rd. Then back to 8 for the 4th then 10 for the 5th. I had to keep myself occupied. lol That treadmill plays mind games with me.

| Carpooled up with Lisa, a friend from High School to Weber State college. Warmed up 2 miles and then did the first race of 5. The 5k. On the dreaded hill. Mile 1 was a 5:43, 2 was 6:03, 3 was 5:36 and my watch hit .13 for the last in :47 seconds. It was a little wet mostly on the ground and I had a hard time breathing. I really hate 5k's I never have been good at them. I need to do more tempo runs and speed workouts for sure. Its funny because I did a 5:30 pace on the Oval a couple weeks ago. This overall pace was 5:47. It was good catching up with Lisa. 20 years since high school and not a lot has happened. lol |

| Went up to Dee Events center and it was 22 degrees when I got there. I was shocked at how cold it was only 45 miles north of us. I did a warm up and lined up behind these girls who would not let me get to the front. At the last second I sort of pushed my way by them and then took off. I was behind Ben and another runner for the first half mile up hill and then it started to level off and Steve made a huge push and got Ben running faster. my first mile was 5:37 which is ok because we didnt really push hard up the hill. I was in 3rd place at this point and Steve and Ben were just blasting down the hill. Mile two I did a 5:08 and they were gapping me. Unbelievable! I talked to Steve and he said they did a 4:40 mile on the second mile. ugg! Mile 3 Ben passed Steve at this point and looked real strong. I did a 5:40 with some ups and downs but gradual ups. Steve started fading from Ben at this point and I was gaining on him. Mile 4, 5:52 and I was fading and the pack of runners behind me started gaining. Mile 5, 6:31. This is the oh so famous hill I like to call 'bastard hill' Im not gonna lie when I say its close to 10% grade for about 1/4 mile and the rest isnt as steep but still bastard like! I was happy to see a 6:31 pace at this time. I did pass Steve just before mile 5 and tried to get my legs to accelerate. It was hard. at 1/2 mile to go I peeked back and saw a runner hot on my back and started to push as hard as I could with some nice downhill to the Dee events center. I beat him only by 12 seconds so he was a downhill runner. Mile 6 was a 6:30 time and I finished in 36:30. Ben beat the course record in 35:02 and did great! Im glad this race is behind me. One more hard race to go. Im trying to decide if its smart to do it this year one week before Moab half. I am known for my insanity though. We will see! |

| Took my scouts to the Olympic Oval in Kearns and had them do their laps for their rank advancement. I did a warmup and did 4x800s with 1 and a half minute recovery in between. I saw Demetrios gang there doing 400s. I saw Bill and a few others I always recognize. I did a cool down after my run and then sprinted a 400 with my scouts. |

| Wow, I am glad this course is over and done with. Good riddens! I did a no no and ran to far last night. I shouldnt have done that. Bad move on my part but my miles were lacking for the week. I have an IT band problem in my right leg and hate to announce it before a race because I usually can ignore pain in a race anyways. I was just to tired today. I started out fine and felt great. I did a 5:40 first mile and 5:07 2nd mile. it was a blurr from then. Steve passed me after the second mile and I kept him in my sites and tried to muster up some strength on the hill I call the bastard hill. I hit it at a comfortable speed and just took it easy. I was to tired for it today. Every Hill that came up I creeped up to Steve but he pushed on the downhill. I did this course in 59:30 last year and thought I could come in the same time but not today. I did go into this race conservatively because I want to try and get a 1:15 or better in Moab next saturday. I try not to let races like this get to me. So chalk it up and get back to work. My only goal I got today was to outrun the weather and as soon as I was finished it started up. |

| I came into this race with low expectations. My body is a mess and my miles for the week were horrid. Maybe I needed a break. It was about 35 degrees st the start. I started out comfortable and mile one was 5.23. I felt like a million bucks and kept it easy. I was in 7th position behind BJ Christiansen. Mile 2 was 55.41 still feeling good. 3 was 5.39, 4 was 5.52. I saw BJ make a surge and pass Albert Wint and a couple guys came up on me and I felt good so I stayed with them. 5 was 5.43. 6 was 5.38. I was getting close to Albert now. 7 was missed on my watch. I pased Albert and had another runner with me. Mile 8 was 5.54 9 was 5.51. This was the hill and I got into 6th place. We then got to the top and came down and Albert and the other runner surged ahead of me about 100 feet. I thougt in my mind I could catch them on the flat last 2 miles because every up or flat I was gapping these guys and down hill they caught me and passed me. 10 was 6.01. Made it out of the Canyon. 11 was 5.49. Albert was fading and I wanted to wait till mile 12 to pass him but when someone is struggling, that's when you make your move. I pased him and tried to focus on form. Now I am a target for him. 12th mile was 5.51. No way I could catch the guy in front of me so I focused on not letting Albert get me. 13 was 5.48 and I made it to the shoot and peopl were going crazy because Albert was Pourin it on. I got on my tip toes and pushed it on in for 7th place. Its beautiful down here and we will take in the scenery today. |

| I multi tasked this morning and saved a ton of money by running! I moved 2 of my semi trucks from a job site 1 mile away and ran back to the job site from where I parked them in Draper. I was in Levis and luckily I wore my running shoes. I must of been a site for those that passed me. ( he must be a new runner and hasnt figured out the running gear yet.) I ended up with 2 miles. This evening I ran 8 miles and my brand new garmin 310 is giving me problems. Good thing I bought it at REI this time. Im going to take it back tonight and exchange it. My right hip is hurting and it is a painful dull feeling. Im going to ice bath it right now and baby it for a while.

| I always go into a race knowing there will be competition and I did today also which is good because right off the bat I had some good runners around me. I felt my legs kind of heavy at mile 1 and guy a 5.24 mile which is good and about the same time as last weeks race. I was passed at mile 1.5 and putme into 2nd but he looked young and I felt like he would guy mile 3 and if catch him. That was the case and I thought that would be it but he came back at mile 8 and made a push to end up with a minute and a half lead to win. I could feel it Pretty good from moabs race and tried to push but couldn't seem to be able to break a 6 pace so I guess my age is showing there. The winners name is Jason Nance and will probably be getting on here to blog his miles so watch for him he Has a great career ahead of him. I wished I could go back to 21 and see where if be today! Mile 2 was 5.46 3 was 5.30 4 was 5.55 5 was 5.43 6 was 5.36 7 was 5.46 8 was 5.50 9 was 6.01 10 was 6. 11 was 6.21. 12 was 6.07 13 was 5.46 and .1 was :56. The official on a bike wrecked right behind me and I felt bad. I shouldve done the right thing and gone back and helped him up. I was off of winning anyways. |

| I am so glad this race is behind me. I made it up to Eden and it was extremely cold and fresh snow was on the road. Very slushy. I started put with a 5.30 pace and quickly new I was in trouble as far as feeling good. Albert Wint came up next to me and we talked a bit and decided that we were in the same boat. We slowed down a lot from a horrible headwind that guy is so hard that we looked like slow motion runners. I havnt run a half in a slow time like this since I've had Mono with no training. The winner from this race last year did a 1.08 and today he got a 1.15 so I do feel a bit at ease from that. I am done with one 10 mile race and 3 half marathons in a row. Now to taper to Boston in 2 weeks. I need a massage in the worst way. I wished I had some deniro to get one. :( |

I asked him what he was doing pulling over us runners at 5 am for? lol He didnt even crack a smile. Thats when I knew I was screwed. He let me off though so he must have some sort of sense of humor. I love how the speed limit was 40 before they widened the road to 4 lanes, now its 35. Interesting huh? My run was good, a nice easy run with a smigeon of tempo. I cannot believe how well my swim made my legs feel this morning. |

| Went to go meet up with the BBK Runners this morning and there was a Firetruck blocking my driveway! I didnt even hear him pull up! I went out to find why thinking my house was on fire and saw an ambulance in the neighbors driveway. I went over to see what was up and found that a really good friend whose family is into running and biking and just being so full of life, died! I was devestated at the news that she had flu like symptoms and it is just so sad! She is 37 years and left behind a 14 year old son and a husband. I spent the morning mourning and then went to the school to pull my daughters out because they were close to her and were really struggling. Life is to short my friends! Especially if your life is taken at a young age! It makes you grab your loved ones and hold them tight! |

It was a great morning! a bit cold at first but warmed up good. There was a 5k race on the trail and I wanted to join in so bad! But I luckily held back and stayed at a good pace. I will be better for it in BOSTON! Im so excited to get the crap out of dodge! I wished I could leave right now. Stupid work and having to make money and all that bill responsibility crap! Blah! I woke up early to go run with the BBK group and it was snowing and I am too close to running Boston to get sick so I went back to bed. I had a very good (as far as it can be) funeral today for my neighbor Michele Beers Olson. She was such a dear neighbor and friend. I went for a jog this evening 6 miles up around Daybreak. I ran it in 40 minutes or a 6:47 pace. I have a headache from neck pain. I will keep trying to heal.

| I had a great time in Boston! The getaway was just what I needed. The running not so much. I really didnt prepare myself this year for it as I was trying to concentrate on getting my speed in the shorter distance races. I started out very conservatively which I patted myself on the back for later, but with no long runs in my training it really showed when i fell to pieces at mile 16. I had a solid 19 miles of great running, probably wouldve hit about a 2:32 with the pace I had set. I couldnt go at mile 20 and when I hit Heartbreak at 20.5 I was done. I had 2 porta potti stops and several calve stops to stretch and from mile 21 on I just set a goal to run a mile and then stretch. I believe I got 3rd overall for Utahs men but Ill have to make sure. It was a good getaway race and thats all I can chalk it up for. I did hurt myself, My hip is destroyed so Im going to have it x-rayed tomorrow. I could see that one coming from the several half marathons in a row I did. But I didnt push myself to where my hip kept me from stopping and getting a ride back. I will try and update my status but will be taking it easy for a while and seeing if I can gear up for UVM. I ran into Nic Mccoombs at the finish and he had a horrible cough but did a 2:27 nevertheless! So awesome! I did get passed by James Moore from this blog also around the 6 mile mark and he looked great. |

Went over to Jordan Landing and did a 1 mile warmup in the rain. I started out really fast, I didnt have my garmin on but I felt like a good 5:20 pace. I looked at the course map before and new there was a turn at the corner of Lowes and when I got to it I saw a sign that said turn right and I did but the cop pacing me went straight. I kept running for about a tenth of a mile and heard him honking to me so I turned around and by the time I got back I was still ahead of the other runners behind me. I sped up to the cop and told him he was going the wrong way. He said just stick with me and youll be fine. I did and I ended up winning it but after the race I told him he went the wrong way and he admitted it so he added a good .25 to the race. I was shocked when I saw my time at 19. I felt like I was really pushing a low 5 pace. I probably was. I wished I wouldve had my garmin on now. I ran my oldest daughter in after and then did a 1 mile race with Bailey my 8 year old. I taught her to pace herself and she did awesome! The kids all sprinted ahead of her and there was about 30 kids ahead of her at .5 mile mark and I showed her how they were slowing down so we picked up the pace and by the .25 miles to go I pushed her hard into 1st place but an older girl just nudged her to out sprint her at the end. I was so proud of her. She did a 8:30! Geez louise! I awarded her with the trophy I got.
I just talked to a few people with Garmin watches on. One of them said they had 3.6 and some said 3.4 so I figured about a 3.5 would be close to this distance.

Did 15 miles tonight down on the park trail. I started at 9800 South and ran north 3/4 of a mile and back and then did the rest of the run going south in the wind. I ended up running 7.5 in a head wind and the rest coming back with a nice tail wind. It took 1:40:17 which is a 6:40 average pace. The last three miles were a grind. Im not going to lie to you. I have a lot of pain in my butt. Im going to ice bath it. Thats all I got to say about that.

Ran from my house to Butterfield Canyon up about a half mile and then back to my house. I felt pretty good to mile 8. It was very hot and I had nothing to drink. My wife brought me up a powerade at mile 11 and I drank it down. I had her leave me a water at mile 16 also. I felt a good pick me up at mile 13 to 16 then I was real tired. Im glad it was downhill from there. I weighed myself before I ran at 128.5 and 6% body fat. I lost 4.5 pounds on the run! Dangerous in my mind. I was at 5% body fat and 124! Holy crap! I think I weighed that in High School. I took an icebath and drank a Protein shake and took some Stim O Stam recovery pills because im seriously fatigued. Im glad I did it though.

| Ok. I made it up to the start and huddled around the fire by Craig, Andrea, Amy and Dominique, and Bill. It was a bit chilly up there in Eden. The gun started right on time and we were off. I started slow and wanted to get a feel for what was going on and after the first half mile found myself alone. I was a bit worried I was going to fast until I saw my watch at mile 1 was 5:21. Not to shabby for a slight downhill start. I got to mile 2 in 5:55 which is all up hill. That was a good time I thought. I was passed at that point by a guy I dont know. He talked to me at the start and told me he was trying for a 1:15 so I figured if he was running as hard as that he would fade so I really didnt take it serious. I got to mile 3 at 5:34, then 4 at 5:36, 5 at 5:23 6 at 5:35, 7 at 5:38, 8 at 5:29, 9 at 5:23, 10 at 5:20, 11 at 5:40. This is where I got confused and ran off the course. It messed me up trying to get back into a groove. 12 at 5:57 and 13 at 6:03. I saw Craig come in behind me and Maryanne and Katie. I felt good and actually took 2nd place overall. The first place guy was disqualified for not being registered. I won a Suunto GPS watch and a free pair of Asics running shoes, and a plaque. Oh and a WIN! My 3rd half marathon ive won so far. It was good. |

| I had an interesting day today! The West Valley Police called me at work and told me I needed to get them my Garmin watch information to them from a hike I was on with the boy scouts on the Pony Express trail and ran into a womens jacket. They believe it could be connected to the Susan Powell case. I spent a good 3 hours at Kim Clowards house who is on this blog. Thank you so much Kim! I really need to get a new computer. Maybe I can sell my watch and shoes I won at Ogden for one? lol I ran the park trail on 98th and did 15 total miles out and back with the last three miles at marathon pace. 5:48, 5:55, and 5:35. My total time was 1:41:37 which is a average pace of 6:45. My legs are a bit sore but I plan to hammer them this week.

| I went up to the Capital and did my famous 20 mile course that has water stations along it stratigicaly placed along my run. I was happy to see my average time going up the canyon was 7:30 pace. I got to the top and found the water fountains not turned on yet! ugh I was so wiped out. That meant close to 7 miles without a drink. 3 ladies came up and I begged for some water. She gave me a Luna bar and plenty of water. I made my way down the canyon and was trying to get close to a 5:30 pace when I started fading fast! I was only at mile 15 and was feeling dizzy. I stopped at a drinking fountain and drank my share then made my way down. It was difficult for me because I didnt hydrate good enough. When I start fading I dont think theres anything that can help. The sun was very hot and humid. As I drove home I noticed big rain clouds forming and it got cold. Typical UTah weather. |

We had a fun time and it was fun to see those fallen runners I feel like I left behind when my life wasnt so hectic. We did a 2 mile hill kill up Bountiful and then another 1 and a half mountain climb right after. It was a good workout. Good to finally run with Mark for the first time. |

| I met Steve Hooper at La Quinta at 3:30 this morning. Yes I said 3:30! We went up to the start and waited in the rain a bit and right before they were going to shoot the gun off the Van that was carrying all our bags of clothes forgot to close the sliding back door and took off and we watched our clothes slowly fall out as he drove away. NOT FUNNY! A cop pulled him over after a half mile down the road. So that delayed us a bit. Plus the start was very narrow and they put the porta pottis down a half a mile so we had to wait for slow poopers to come up. It started very fast just like I predicted. I was running next to Steve Ashbaker, Dave Holt, and Clyde Behunin. It was raining and a slight head wind. I traded off with Steve to try and not get tired but on his turn he turned up the pace and I couldnt go that fast. At mile 9 I had a pit stop that took 58 seconds which burned me because Dave was about 200 yards ahead of me and Clyde was about 50 yards behind me. When I came out Clyde was about 300 yards ahead of me which blew my mind. I worked and worked to catch him from then but he was increasing the gap. I caught a stragler at mile 12 in a bright yellow shirt and then a Kenyan at mile 13 which felt good. I was going to scare him and growl but I didnt want to lose a position. I then passed one other guy at about mile 18 and then saw my family at mile 19.5 as they gave me a gu and Cytomax. I also had a cheerleader slap my butt at mile 17 which rarely happens! Except of course in Wellesley. lol It was Andrea from the Runamoks with Craig cheering us soggy pathetic runners on. I made it out of the canyon and after drinking that Cytomax I honestly picked my pace up! I almost caught Dave and Clyde and as I got near them, Dave poured on the gas and Clyde followed suit. I passed a few more runners after that and right at mile 23 I saw Steve stop at the aid station and he wasnt looking good. I passed him slowly and by mile 24.5 I was fading so bad I thought he would catch me. There is a bridge that goes up over a railroad tracks they make you run up at mile 25.25 which is just not even funny! I was running in place at that point and when I got to the top I got a nice downhill surge to the finish. It was fun seeing the Sun runners up and even Paul from up north. |

People were driving along side me to see how fast I was going. I was messing around trying to run faster. I told them to see if I could go 30 mph Haha. | Did the local 10k run in Lewiston Utah. I won it last year in 36 minutes and was told by the race director I wouldn't won it this year. That kind of sparked my desire to run it. I started out my first mile in 5:18. There was a few guys staying with me. Second mile had head wind and was flat but on a gravel and I couldn't get traction. I settled into a 5:40 pace after that with some incline and a steep hill that was .25 mile long at the 4th mile. It was a nice day out. I was congested with a sinus infection but happy to break 35 minutes. |

| Had a hard night and early morning. Got to the start and did a mile warmup. I took off a bit hard with a runner from Runners Corner. Then Albert Wint and Nathan Hornocks and another runner passed me. Mile 1 was slight downhill and flat in 5:30. Mile 2 was slight uphill with last quarter mile going over the peak. I was at 7800' elevation and was glad I qas on the downhill. At this point Albert and I took off and hot right up to the leaders. I wanted to use the hill to my advantage so I pushed harder. Mile 2 was 5:35 mile 3 was 4:54. Mile 4 was 5:04 5 was 5:14 and at this point we were ear the bottom. I was in 3rd overall. 6 was 5:12 then 7th mile was 5:28. This is when I guy the uphill part and passed Albert and tried to make a move on the first guy. 8 was 5:41 9 was 5:56. I finally had some decline again and hit 5:40 on 10. 11 was 5:45. I looked back to see a runner about 200 meters and closing fast. Mile 12 was 5:53 I was so tired at this point but had regrets of bring passed. I pushed my wasted self as hard as I could and hit 5:41. I turned with a quarter to go and was in hot pursuit so I gave er hell and took second by a mere 15 or so seconds. I was amazed at how none of the others runners around me took water at any stations that I saw. I was taking water at every station. |

I went down a mile to 8200' and then started my climb up to Desolation lake which was at about 9200' also. I then made my way around the trail that goes up to the peak which is 10000'! I then ran all down around the Great Western trail to the parking lot. I started at about 8 and when I was finished it was around 9:45 pm. I was a bit freaked out from running my last 3 miles in the dark in the woods. |

| Went up to the buses with James Barnes and 2 of our athletes on the Cross Country team. It was a very unorganized and chaotic start. I started out like I did when I ran Bryce. Sasha and I ran together to take the lead and just before the first mile he and another runner where ahead of me. Mile 1) 5:08, I actually hit a 4:59 on this mile 2 years ago. I was pretty happy with that even though it was slow. Mile 2) 5:11. At this point Sasha surged ahead and had about 20 feet on me. Mile 3) 5:19. I noticed Sasha fading a bit and I started getting closer to him and then he would surge. Mile 4) 5:11. I was passed by Brian, the coach of West Jordan at this point and he passed me fast but when he got to Sasha he slowed his pace down to run next to him. Mile 5)5:46. Finally got to the bottom to the park trail, i was passed by Justin Park and Sasha was about 200 yards ahead of me at this point. Mile 6) 5:35. The trail was nice but I liked that down hill road a lot better. I saw Andrea here and wondered if a butt slapping was in order. Sure enough I got a nice smack that had force with a sting. Thats alright, I know I was the envy for shizzle! lol Miles 7) 6:02. Wow, I really didnt plan on this part, It was uphill with a head wind that they changed the course a bit. It really knocked the wind out of me. I then lost time to the leaders on this mile. I could really feel my legs too. I ran 5 miles last night which was starting to show. Mile 8)6:12. I was really tired at this point and made a goal to try and push as hard as I could to mile 10. Mile 9) 5:42. I made a push this mile and got a good 100 yards on Justin. He was in striking distance again. Mile 10) 5:41. Yeah, i made a goal to push and stuck with it. Now in my mind I thought Id make a goal for a 5k push. Mile 11) 5:49. I was pleased to be at this point from the way I felt. Mile 12) 5:57. A few rollers that grabbed me pretty hard. 13) 5:59. I was happy to be under 6 at this point. I was done! My body was very tired. I could feel the effects from Bryce halfs 1:12 finish in my legs and knew I couldnt repeat that time. 13.1) 1:14:30. Done and 4th place. I ran under James Barnes name so hopefully I put James on the top of the list of people to beat. Dont worry, the race director is the one that set James up for stardom. It was pretty toasty today and I need to get used to running in the heat. I wasnt planning on this race till yesterday either. More of an adrenalined packed speed workout. |

Ran with the Herriman XC team and we started at the bottom of Butterfield Canyon and went up 3.5 miles and then pushed hard down it. my last 3 miles were 4:49, 5:18, and 5:17. I really wanted to do a run like this. Im amazed at the progress of a few runners from running with them at Lava hot springs camp a month ago till now! sheesh! awesome. did a mile cool down after.

| Started my first leg just outside of Preston, Idaho and it was about 80 degrees. I ran on the highway and it heated up fast. First .5 was flat and then went up hill. My first mile was 5:30 and that was the only mile this entire relay that I hit a 5:30. All my legs were very hard with lots of uphill. Second leg was at midnight and was 8.8 miles. It was through a mountain pass with loose gravel and powdery dirt. I finally caught up to several runners at this point. It was very difficult to run not only from the up hill, but from the passing vehicles. My headlamp shined into a cloud of dust and blinded me to the point that I either had to turn my lamp off and run by feel by the tail lamps of the vehicles or slow way down and run by feel. Either way it was difficult. I turned my lamp off and waited till I couldnt see the taillamps of the vehicles ahead. I rolled my ankle several times and my calf muscle knotted up really bad. I had an extremely tough time on this section but managed to keep a 6:23 pace.

| Started out in a gorgeous heavily Pined area that we stayed at during the night. It was about 8 am and it was at a site where they launch rafts and boats on the river. It was very scenic and we were close to Jackson Hole. I had a decent runner that had about a .25 lead on me that I worked on immediately. It was flat for .5 miles then went straight up like Ragnar for 700 or so feet. I went from a 6 pace to an 8:30 pace. I passed him and a few others on this leg. It was my last leg and they have a competition where the fastest runner of every leg gets to name that leg for the next year. I wanted this to belong to me so I ran as hard as I could. Ill have to see the results when they are posted. I already know what Im going to name the 2 legs if I won them. The first one will be Dusty Bottoms, and this leg will be called WTF? (Whats the face?) haha |

Went to Autumn Hills Park in Herriman at 4 pm to run with the Cross Country kids and we did a 2 mile warmup and then 8x450 meters on the lawn by the middle school with a 200 meter recovery. Then a 2 mile cool down in the extreme heat. Very hot!

Went and ran with the Herriman XC team and they were pretty tired from this mornings run thank goodness. It helped me keep up with them. They are getting so talented it just amazes me! I ran a total of 5.5 miles from Autumn Hills park over to the school and around to check out the new fancy track! So nice! The lanes are red which make it appear smaller to me for some reason. We then ran back to the park and chatted for a second about our race strategy for Saturday. I think a couple of them are plotting how they can beat me in our 4 mile race. lol I then went to Draper and ran 10 more miles with a gusty head wind out and back.

Went to Herriman High School and ran with the XC team 5 miles around the area. I went up to James Barnes home before to see if he could use any help with his house that was massively flooded by the rainstorm. It filled the retention pond above his house and breeched over and went straight through his house and filled his foundation basement up 7' of water! Tons of destruction and damage. I feel real bad for him and my heart goes out to him and Allison. I really enjoy coaching with him, hes a great guy.

| Went early to help James and John (no not the former prophets) set up for our XC race this morning and got a look at what its like behind the table when your waiting to register. Very hectic and stressful. We had a good turn out for a first year race. We had more 25 dollar gift cards then people though! Herriman businesses really did awesome for our first race. We had several thousand dollars to give out as prizes at the end. Everyone got something. The race started really fast as I expected with how High School kids race. I let them pick the pace and get it going. After a half a mile 2 kids were in front of me. One was a senior from Riverton and the other was a Junior for our school. I saw my first mile was 5:23 which wasnt to bad for a slight uphill grade mostly flat. Mile 2 was the same and it was Dillon Jones ahead of me by 10'. I then had a bit of uphill and surged up to him and passed him and he challenged me and kept up to my pace. As I got to the top of the incline I pushed a bit harder and watched his shadow till it was gone and I couldnt hear him anymore. Mile 3 was 5:53 which I really felt in my legs. I then had a slight downhill stretch back to the school and with a half a mile left it turned and I saw I had about a 200 yard lead. My legs really hurt and I have some issues with my right calve from the Relay I ran last saturday. Im having serious doubts about St. George. I will up my miles and see if I can handle it. |

Ok first of all I had a huge eye opener on this race from a different perspective as I was in charge of the aid station on mile 6. I also ran the race too. So I have to thank my wife and Father in Law who ended up very sticky from gatorade and Bill my brother in law for taking charge and Kimball the slowest runner I know. lol Ok so the race got started a bit late which gave me time to do a 1 mile warmup to the secret potties. I have been suffering from stomach issues the past week from switching my runs from morning to the heat of the day. I think that is what its from. I went to the start and had several runners ask how I got the bib number 1. It was actually from Kris Siddoway for helping out with the aid station but I had to lie and tell everyone I won the race last year. haha My main goal in this race was to try and stay with Paul Peterson for as long as I could and I was hoping that would be mile 6. Little did I know from talking to Paul after the race that he had the same goal except to keep up with Patrick (Kenyan runner) for 6 miles. The gun went off and Patrick and Terran and Paul sprinted! I thought it was to get a good position in the race so I went after them and there were 4 runners all together and me and a 13 year old who I didnt take serious at all. After a half mile I couldnt believe they were still in sprint mode. I immediately dropped back as I knew they were in 4:45 mode. Not much hill to help out either. I had a little pack of runners with me including the 13 year old who was so funny to watch but had a lot of talent! He would surge and then fall back to our group and the runners in the group wouldnt go in front of me and help out with the slight headwind. Every time the kid came back he would tell me good job! It was funny. I thought for sure he would die off at mile 3 but he hung strong till mile 8 which is where I had stomach issues again. I talked to the kid as he told me he was going to slow down and I told him to relax his shoulders and take it easy for a mile and that I was going to use the Porta John at mile 9. He fell back about 200 yards in that mile and I jumped in the crapper and did my stomach issue relief and then when I came out 2 minutes later I saw a guy coming up behind but the kid was a .25 mile ahead of me so I pushed a fast mile and then the dreaded mile 11 and 12 came up which I seriously hate. It slowed me to a 6 pace instantly and I caught the kid at mile 11.5 and told him to try and stay with me. He did great! at mile 12 we finally had a down hill and I told him I was going to speed up a bit and he didnt want to so I took off and with a half mile to go I turned to tell him to pick it up and he did! I ended up about 20 seconds ahead of him but was amazed at his talent! I tried to do a cool down jog with Kelli after but only made it a half mile and had to walk back. I almost threw up several times which I think was from the humidity. I took 1st in age and 7th overall. I took Paul Petersons money he won and his trophy to his house and talked to him a bit at his house afterward. Very fun day!

5 miles to get the rigamortis out of my body. Went up around a loop by the temple. I did a 7:16 pace. Its time for me to see if I can compete next month. Biked from Trax station on 10000 So. and 3rd east to Herriman High School which is 10 miles. All up hill with a headwind. ugg! Got there a bit late, the guys were on there last few intervals. I tried to run a 200 meter sprint after biking and my legs were freakin rubber! Rubber I say! Very funny.

I ran 10 miles around daybreak lake and home. I averaged a 6:35 pace through mile 8 and did my last 2 miles in 5:18, and 5:17. It was a very hot push and a bit overforced. I hope to be able to do more of these. By the way, I weighed myself on my body fat scale after my run and I weighed 123.5 and had a 4% body fat reading! Shitake! That is way to thin, I need to bulk up I cant seem to get to 132 which is what I weighed last year for St. George Marathon. I can lose 10 lbs in a marathon when Im at that weight. But not at 123.5. I will be in trouble.

| Ran the Capitol to City Creek loop I so love to do. I was the only runner up there so it made me nervous. Saw a Doe and heard some crunching noises in the brush a few times. After I got to the top just .25 miles down I almost got nabbed by a Rattle Snake. I was a bit too close to the side of the road when I was coming around a turn and I thought it was a squirrel at first but then it coiled up and raised up right as I was by it. That would have sucked if it bit me. I wouldve been screwed blue and tattoed before anyone got up as high as I was. I ran down the middle of the road from then on. As Steve Irwin would regularly say, "that was a close one!" (Australian Accent) My last 6 miles were at a 5:35 pace. I was having some issues with my left hip in the front. Will Ice, Ibuprophen, rub, repeat.

No miles. I dropped a 5 gallon paint bucket on my right big toe. I went in to the docs and they saw no breaks or fractures, but there is a weird bone chip that sent a sliver of bone to the side of my bone in the skin so they are going to look at it closer and let me know on friday when I go back in. It is very painful and hurts to walk on it for now. More rest which is most likely good for me anyways. Ill gain weight and give my body some much needed rest.

I figure its usually around 8 blocks per mile but it does weave side to side. I saw Teena Marie at mile 15 and she was going to fast for us. I ended up running the last 3 miles at a 6:30 pace. I linued up at the start next to all the St. George running center team and we took off. 1: 5.43 Exactly where Jeffs pace band told us we should be. The Pack was 9 deep and they really werent going too fast at the start. It looked like Logan and Clyde were at the front. I was behind the pack with Jeff, Ken Pliska, Ben another guy who was running together with Ben. 2: 5.49 Ken and Jeff started talking together and sort of pulled ahead of us so I was 3 wide with Ben and friend. 3: 5:31 Our first taste of downhill and we pushed the pace a bit. I was a bit worried that I may have took off to hard so I backed off of Ben and his friend. 4: 5:32 Another fast mile but felt comfortable. Jeff and Ken started to increase the gap on us a bit. 5: 5:44 This is the pace I wanted to be at so I felt good here.
6: 5:35 Another fast mile with a bit of downhill. 7: 5:32 I wasnt paying attention to my watch here but I was just behind Ben as we got our first aided bottles that they set out for us. I took a gu and drank my Cytomax. I ran with the bottle all the way to mile 8.
8: 6:32 VEYO! enough said right! Ben and his friend seemed to push it hard and I had no intention of doing that. This is how I had a great finish last year and was trying to mock my running.
9: 6:18 still going up hill and rolling. I was about 20 feet behind Ben. I was in 16th place at that point.
10: 6:02 I learned from last year not to let the 6's discourage me. I was saving my strength.
11: 6:23 Last of the hill and SUN! lots of sun and it got warm quick. I think Ben and I started to see Jeff at this point and could see that Ken had taken off from him. This was another Table Aid station that I put Cytomax at again.
12: 6:05 Flat and rolling a bit. Im starting to get my speed back I could tell. 13: 5:51 A bit of down and caught up with Ben and his buddy here.
13.1: 1:17:15 This was a bit fast than last year by only a few seconds. 14: 5:52 This is where the hill started to give us some umph and I could see Jeff Blast down it. 15: 5:26 I think it was here that I was ready to go and started my push to catch Jeff. I got another gu with my water bottle aid station here with Cytomax. I swear this stuff is liquid dope for runners! 16: 5:32 Last year I passed Sasha here with a 5:15 split. I was about 16 seconds slower but tried not to think about it. I was about 50 feet ahead of Ben at this point and starting to close on Jeff who was about 100 feet at this point. 17: 5:36 I love the downhill parts in this race but it was looking short lived as I could see the dreaded mile 18 ahead. I was feeling my toe pretty bad here and tried to concentrate on it rather then ayny other pain my body gave. 18: 5:36 I was amazed at Jeffs strength going up this stretch and still had a bit to catch him. I think he was aobut 50 feet at this point. 19: 6:08 The hill took a bit out of my sails and I tried to think about the downhill from here on out. I got another bottle of Cytomax and gu again here and was glad for it. I needed it.
20: 5:55 I had caught Jeff now and was planning on staying with him but couldnt get in sink with his pace so I let my body go on the hill. I had no idea where I was in the race and someone told me I was number 8. I saw Clyde on this mile also and new he was in trouble. He was walking and so I had wondered if I was really 7th then or not. It kind of kept my spirits up and I kept telling myself 10k to go 10k to go! 21: 5:29 I couldnt hear Jeff at all anymore and wondered where or how far back him and Ben where behind me. 22: 6:01 The last little hoopla of rollers before the final drop! Yeah! 4 to go 23: 6:11 I got my aided bottle here and had passed the water when I took the gu. I washed it down with Cytomax which my body didnt want at this point. I was mad that I didnt get a water but knew I needed it so I stopped and walked and drank as much as I could and Jeff caught me. I was gagging that damn gu down still and the cytomax now so I desperately needed water. There was an ambulance so I went over to it to see of they had water. Nope! a bystander gave me his water bottle graciously so I ran and gulped it down. It was good. I needed it but it gave Jeff about a 100' lead back on me. I pushed down the last part of the hill and when It went flat I was not able to get my legs moving. So at this point I thought I was either 8th or 9th. I made it to mile 24 and was passed by a kid in a blue shirt. Shoot! I cannot let anybody pass me now because I was either 9th or 10 now. I made it to mile 25.2 and Ben passed me. My spirits were low now and I hoped that I was only 10th. On the last turn I looked back and there was a guy coming on me fast! Shoot! I had to pour it on now. I gave it all I had but my leg turnover was crap! I was extremely dizzy and couldnt focus! Come on .25 to go! I could hear the crowd yelling louder as he got closer to me. Can I try and sprint? No my legs are at max. I got into the shoot and prayed I could get the strength to hold him off. I crossed the finish and was caught by a couple of handsome guards that helped me get my finishers medal. They gave me a pass that said 10th overall! Sweet! I did it! Finally got it, it wasnt a great finish like last year but a better placement! by 1. I got 2 -150 dollar gift certificates for Hotel and Lodging for next year, 100 dollar for travel,100 bucks to St. George Running Center, some chocolates, 2 bags, a garbage can with the logo, and a rock clock. Plus the free comp into next years race. It was a hot day which my body is not fond of at all. I am a downhill 60 degree runner! Its funny because I told my wife I wasnt running this next year so we could go do Marine Corps Marathon a few weeks later. Now Ill run both. lol

| It was a bit nippy at the top! I put my attire on for my costume as a Prom date. Christa was my date. I decided that I couldnt run with it on so I opted to my singlet and shorts. Sorry Christa. Our date was short lived and I didnt even get a kiss. lol I saw a lot of crazy costumes and a lot of crazy friends at the starting line. Lily and Mckenzie! So funny! I lined up at the start next to Steve and BJ. We started off and there was a freaking bus in the way we had to run around and it got chaotic but we managed and off we went. The first 5 are insanely steep! I thought I was the only runner who was slapping my feet as I ran but it turned out everyone was. I ran in the group and they were pretty chipper. I told some that asked what I was doing that I really had no idea and that Id just let the first 5 miles dictate. As we hit mile 5 it felt like I was running a 7 minute pace but when I got to six realized I was staying under 6 so it was ok. I hit mile 11 and thought in my mind I might be able to hit a 1:10 so I did try harder but my legs were spent. I did get real close to BJ by mile 12 but then he poured it on and I didnt have enough in me to respond so I finished right behind him. It was a PR for me so im not complaining. Very Very fast course. Ill bet I could easily break a 1:10 on it if I didnt have tired legs from St. George and had more miles behind me instead of resting. The medals were awesome and the shirts were bitchin! I really like this race. Its a definate blister maker! It was nice to see the Herriman High School XC team out on the aid stations. It really gave me a boost at mile 9 and 11! Thanks you studs and studettes!

I have to admit this week has been so nice for biking to work! I hope it lasts.I biked up to the capital and met Becca and ran up City Creek for 1.5 and then over to Shriners Hospital and back to the Capital to make an even 9. Then I biked to trax to make 22 total biking miles. My legs are back to being beaten up.

I biked to trax and home. it was a freakin awesome day out today outside of the smog. I was planning on running when I got home and was bombarded with jobs to bid, one to get ready. Its nice to see stuff coming in. I hope its a good sign. Im anxious to make money instead of watching myself fall into debt. So you know i missed my run. someone come kick my butt in gear please. I could use the excuse that my legs are still in shock. I dont want to push them right now.

Ok so I was planning on running today and didnt. For those that didnt hear my bike tragedy on facebook here goes....My wife picked me up so I didnt have to bike in the rain from work and forgot my bike was on the roof and ran through our garage. Dont know exactly how much the damage is but I know its unridable. So...I either run to work or leave my truck at the trax parking lot. Will see what I can do.

Now I will see if I can continue this without help. It was warmer this morning and windy but felt good. |

| I ran 6 miles with Danielle this morning then went to work. Tonight I did a 1 mile warmup and then 8x400's at a 1.13 acrerage. I got to try put my new Suunto watch I won from the Ogden half marathon. It was pretty close with the foot pod. I then ran 2 miles cool down. There was a lot of runners there tonight. Plus all my team USA skater friends I have befriended over the past 8 years. I saw a lady that came up to me and had the USA warmups on and she reminded me of how I used to talk to her when she was trying out and didn't think shed ever make it. Pretty amazing to see the outcome over a few years. Very inspiring. |

Went up to the lake with Misty and met Danielle for a run. Misty made it to 6.4 miles in the time I ran 8 miles so she is getting better even though she said she felt like shes getting slower. I ran the 2.3 remaining back home with a pushed tempo pace. I could only get to a 5:45 mile and that was going downhill. I really need to get my butt in gear. I cant see a 4:55 pace for a while! I can do it I know I have it in me. Just have to build more base and rock it like a hurricane.

Ran from my house 1.4 miles and met up to Danielle and ran the rest with her. I dont get much time in the mornings to run. from 5 till a little before 6. It was a really warm morning. Felt great. Oh I saved Danielles life this morning crossing Bangerter. A car ran a red light on a turn and I stopped her from getting hit. If I wasnt there shed be a goner for sure, he was flying around the corner and didnt see us till his lights shined on us which was about 5 feet away.

| Started at my inlaws house in Lewiston, Utah. I ran the 10k course they have on the 4th of July here. A Collie decided to run with me for 4 of the miles. Funny dog. I found its owners when I was on my way back. I got into town and then ran the 5k route for the same race which goes to the Idaho border. I then came back to the ranch and I think a total of 5 vehicles passed me. So quiet! |

Ran from my house this evening up around Daybreak lake and did a loop. Then over to 104th and down to 4800 W. and by the Temple and around 114th and down to my house. I didnt see one person out running, walking a dog, or even the creeps out. It was almost eerie. It was windy and I could actually breathe the cold air instead of the smug from California. Im not talking emissions from their hybrids either. Im talking the smug attitudes from them driving a car and thinking they are better then everyone else because they are introduced to all that technology. We must destroy all the hybrids in San Fransisco immediately! Even George Clooneys! To much smug coming this way....
