Ran 5 miles this morning with the Herriman XC team and did about an 8 pace with Leisl.

Ran 5 miles tonight with Christa while pushing Boston in the stroller. that was an eventful run! He cried a lot and then fell asleep and then it poured rain on us and woke him up so we ducked under someones front porch and they came out to see what the crap was going on.  It was funny but they were nice to let us stay while the storm passed.

Went up to the buses with James Barnes and 2 of our athletes on the Cross Country team. It was a very unorganized and chaotic start. I started out like I did when I ran Bryce. Sasha and I ran together to take the lead and just before the first mile he and another runner where ahead of me. Mile 1) 5:08, I actually hit a 4:59 on this mile 2 years ago. I was pretty happy with that even though it was slow. Mile 2) 5:11. At this point Sasha surged ahead and had about 20 feet on me.  Mile 3) 5:19. I noticed Sasha fading a bit and I started getting closer to him and then he would surge. Mile 4) 5:11. I was passed by Brian, the coach of West Jordan at this point and he passed me fast but when he got to Sasha he slowed his pace down to run next to him. Mile 5)5:46. Finally got to the bottom to the park trail, i was passed by Justin Park and Sasha was about 200 yards ahead of me at this point.  Mile 6) 5:35. The trail was nice but I liked that down hill road a lot better. I saw Andrea here and wondered if a butt slapping was in order. Sure enough I got a nice smack that had force with a sting. Thats alright, I know I was the envy for shizzle!  lol  Miles 7) 6:02.  Wow, I really didnt plan on this part, It was uphill with a head wind that they changed the course a bit. It really knocked the wind out of me. I then lost time to the leaders on this mile. I could really feel my legs too. I ran 5 miles last night which was starting to show.  Mile 8)6:12.  I was really tired at this point and made a goal to try and push as hard as I could to mile 10.   Mile 9) 5:42.  I made a push this mile and got a good 100 yards on Justin. He was in striking distance again. Mile 10) 5:41. Yeah, i made a goal to push and stuck with it. Now in my mind I thought Id make a goal for a 5k push.  Mile 11) 5:49. I was pleased to be at this point from the way I felt.  Mile 12) 5:57.  A few rollers that grabbed me pretty hard.  13) 5:59. I was happy to be under 6 at this point. I was done! My body was very tired. I could feel the effects from Bryce halfs 1:12 finish in my legs and knew I couldnt repeat that time. 13.1) 1:14:30. Done and 4th place. I ran under James Barnes name so hopefully I put James on the top of the list of people to beat. Dont worry, the race director is the one that set James up for stardom.  It was pretty toasty today and I need to get used to running in the heat.  I wasnt planning on this race till yesterday either. More of an adrenalined packed speed workout.

Ran with the Herriman XC team and we started at the bottom of Butterfield Canyon and went up 3.5 miles and then pushed hard down it. my last 3 miles were 4:49, 5:18, and 5:17. I really wanted to do a run like this. Im amazed at the progress of a few runners from running with them at Lava hot springs camp a month ago till now! sheesh! awesome. did a mile cool down after.

Race: Epic Relay Logan to Jackson (5.97 Miles) 00:36:41
Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles

Started my first leg just outside of Preston, Idaho and it was about 80 degrees. I ran on the highway and it heated up fast. First .5 was flat and then went up hill. My first mile was 5:30 and that was the only mile this entire relay that I hit a 5:30. All my legs were very hard with lots of uphill.

Second leg was at midnight and was 8.8 miles. It was through a mountain pass with loose gravel and powdery dirt. I finally caught up to several runners at this point. It was very difficult to run not only from the up hill, but from the passing vehicles.  My headlamp shined into a cloud of dust and blinded me to the point that I either had to turn my lamp off and run by feel by the tail lamps of the vehicles or slow way down and run by feel. Either way it was difficult. I turned my lamp off and waited till I couldnt see the taillamps of the vehicles ahead. I rolled my ankle several times and my calf muscle knotted up really bad. I had an extremely tough time on this section but managed to keep a 6:23 pace.

Started out in a gorgeous heavily Pined area that we stayed at during the night. It was about 8 am and it was at a site where they launch rafts and boats on the river. It was very scenic and we were close to Jackson Hole. I had a decent runner that had about a .25 lead on me that I worked on immediately. It was flat for .5 miles then went straight up like Ragnar for 700 or so feet. I went from a 6 pace to an 8:30 pace. I passed him and a few others on this leg. It was my last leg and they have a competition where the fastest runner of every leg gets to name that leg for the next year.  I wanted this to belong to me so I ran as hard as I could. Ill have to see the results when they are posted. I already know what Im going to name the 2 legs if I won them. The first one will be Dusty Bottoms, and this leg will be called WTF? (Whats the face?) haha

Went to Autumn Hills Park in Herriman at 4 pm to run with the Cross Country kids and we did a 2 mile warmup and then 8x450 meters on the lawn by the middle school with a 200 meter recovery. Then a 2 mile cool down in the extreme heat. Very hot!

Went and ran with the Herriman XC team and they were pretty tired from this mornings run thank goodness. It helped me keep up with them.  They are getting so talented it just amazes me! I ran a total of 5.5 miles from Autumn Hills park over to the school and around to check out the new fancy track! So nice! The lanes are red which make it appear smaller to me for some reason. We then ran back to the park and chatted for a second about our race strategy for Saturday. I think a couple of them are plotting how they can beat me in our 4 mile race. lol

I then went to Draper and ran 10 more miles with a gusty head wind out and back.

Went to Herriman High School and ran with the XC team 5 miles around the area.  I went up to James Barnes home before to see if he could use any help with his house that was massively flooded by the rainstorm. It filled the retention pond above his house and breeched over and went straight through his house and filled his foundation basement up 7' of water! Tons of destruction and damage. I feel real bad for him and my heart goes out to him and Allison. I really enjoy coaching with him, hes a great guy.

Went early to help James and John (no not the former prophets) set up for our XC race this morning and got a look at what its like behind the table when your waiting to register. Very hectic and stressful.  We had a good turn out for a first year race.  We had more 25 dollar gift cards then people though! Herriman businesses really did awesome for our first race. We had several thousand dollars to give out as prizes at the end. Everyone got something.   The race started really fast as I expected with how High School kids race. I let them pick the pace and get it going. After a half a mile 2 kids were in front of me. One was a senior from Riverton and the other was a Junior for our school. I saw my first mile was 5:23 which wasnt to bad for a slight uphill grade mostly flat. Mile 2 was the same and it was Dillon Jones ahead of me by 10'.  I then had a bit of uphill and surged up to him and passed him and he challenged me and kept up to my pace.  As I got to the top of the incline I pushed a bit harder and watched his shadow till it was gone and I couldnt hear him anymore. Mile 3 was 5:53 which I really felt in my legs. I then had a slight downhill stretch back to the school and with a half a mile left it turned and I saw I had about a 200 yard lead. My legs really hurt and I have some issues with my right calve from the Relay I ran last saturday.  Im having serious doubts about St. George. I will up my miles and see if I can handle it.

Ok first of all I had a huge eye opener on this race from a different perspective as I was in charge of the aid station on mile 6.  I also ran the race too. So I have to thank my wife and Father in Law who ended up very sticky from gatorade and Bill my brother in law for taking charge and Kimball the slowest runner I know. lol Ok so the race got started a bit late which gave me time to do a 1 mile warmup to the secret potties.  I have been suffering from stomach issues the past week from switching my runs from morning to the heat of the day. I think that is what its from.  I went to the start and had several runners ask how I got the bib number 1. It was actually from Kris Siddoway for helping out with the aid station but I had to lie and tell everyone I won the race last year. haha My main goal in this race was to try and stay with Paul Peterson for as long as I could and I was hoping that would be mile 6.  Little did I know from talking to Paul after the race that he had the same goal except to keep up with Patrick (Kenyan runner) for 6 miles. The gun went off and Patrick and Terran and Paul sprinted! I thought it was to get a good position in the race so I went after them and there were 4 runners all together and me and a 13 year old who I didnt take serious at all. After a half mile I couldnt believe they were still in sprint mode. I immediately dropped back as I knew they were in 4:45 mode.  Not much hill to help out either.  I had a little pack of runners with me including the 13 year old who was so funny to watch but had a lot of talent! He would surge and then fall back to our group and the runners in the group wouldnt go in front of me and help out with the slight headwind.  Every time the kid came back he would tell me good job! It was funny.  I thought for sure he would die off at mile 3 but he hung strong till mile 8 which is where I had stomach issues again. I talked to the kid as he told me he was going to slow down and I told him to relax his shoulders and take it easy for a mile and that I was going to use the Porta John at mile 9.  He fell back about 200 yards in that mile and I jumped in the crapper and did my stomach issue relief and then when I came out 2 minutes later I saw a guy coming up behind but the kid was a .25 mile ahead of me so I pushed a fast mile  and then the dreaded mile 11 and 12 came up which I seriously hate. It slowed me to a 6 pace instantly and I caught the kid at mile 11.5 and told him to try and stay with me. He did great! at mile 12 we finally had a down hill and I told him I was going to speed up a bit and he didnt want to so I took off and with a half mile to go I turned to tell him to pick it up and he did! I ended up about 20 seconds ahead of him but was amazed at his talent!  I tried to do a cool down jog with Kelli after but only made it a half mile and had to walk back. I almost threw up several times which I think was from the humidity.  I took 1st in age and 7th overall.  I took Paul Petersons money he won and his trophy to his house and talked to him a bit at his house afterward. Very fun day!

5 miles to get the rigamortis out of my body. Went up around a loop by the temple. I did a 7:16 pace. Its time for me to see if I can compete next month.

Biked from Trax station on 10000 So. and 3rd east to Herriman High School which is 10 miles. All up hill with a headwind. ugg! Got there a bit late, the guys were on there last few intervals. I tried to run a 200 meter sprint after biking and my legs were freakin rubber! Rubber I say! Very funny.

I ran 10 miles around daybreak lake and home. I averaged a 6:35 pace through mile 8 and did my last 2 miles in 5:18, and 5:17. It was a very hot push and a bit overforced. I hope to be able to do more of these. By the way, I weighed myself on my body fat scale after my run and I weighed 123.5 and had a 4% body fat reading! Shitake! That is way to thin, I need to bulk up I cant seem to get to 132 which is what I weighed last year for St. George Marathon. I can lose 10 lbs in a marathon when Im at that weight. But not at 123.5. I will be in trouble.
