Went up to the buses with James Barnes and 2 of our athletes on the Cross Country team. It was a very unorganized and chaotic start. I started out like I did when I ran Bryce. Sasha and I ran together to take the lead and just before the first mile he and another runner where ahead of me. Mile 1) 5:08, I actually hit a 4:59 on this mile 2 years ago. I was pretty happy with that even though it was slow. Mile 2) 5:11. At this point Sasha surged ahead and had about 20 feet on me.  Mile 3) 5:19. I noticed Sasha fading a bit and I started getting closer to him and then he would surge. Mile 4) 5:11. I was passed by Brian, the coach of West Jordan at this point and he passed me fast but when he got to Sasha he slowed his pace down to run next to him. Mile 5)5:46. Finally got to the bottom to the park trail, i was passed by Justin Park and Sasha was about 200 yards ahead of me at this point.  Mile 6) 5:35. The trail was nice but I liked that down hill road a lot better. I saw Andrea here and wondered if a butt slapping was in order. Sure enough I got a nice smack that had force with a sting. Thats alright, I know I was the envy for shizzle!  lol  Miles 7) 6:02.  Wow, I really didnt plan on this part, It was uphill with a head wind that they changed the course a bit. It really knocked the wind out of me. I then lost time to the leaders on this mile. I could really feel my legs too. I ran 5 miles last night which was starting to show.  Mile 8)6:12.  I was really tired at this point and made a goal to try and push as hard as I could to mile 10.   Mile 9) 5:42.  I made a push this mile and got a good 100 yards on Justin. He was in striking distance again. Mile 10) 5:41. Yeah, i made a goal to push and stuck with it. Now in my mind I thought Id make a goal for a 5k push.  Mile 11) 5:49. I was pleased to be at this point from the way I felt.  Mile 12) 5:57.  A few rollers that grabbed me pretty hard.  13) 5:59. I was happy to be under 6 at this point. I was done! My body was very tired. I could feel the effects from Bryce halfs 1:12 finish in my legs and knew I couldnt repeat that time. 13.1) 1:14:30. Done and 4th place. I ran under James Barnes name so hopefully I put James on the top of the list of people to beat. Dont worry, the race director is the one that set James up for stardom.  It was pretty toasty today and I need to get used to running in the heat.  I wasnt planning on this race till yesterday either. More of an adrenalined packed speed workout.

From Walter on Sat, Aug 07, 2010 at 14:07:44 from 24.10.169.110

James, well...continuing stardom. lol I Know for a fact I couldve hit a 1:11 with fresh legs. It is a faster course than Bryce. I have hammered my body.

Lily, Its always great to meet new faces that I talk to on here and only get a mug shot to go off of. I must have a pretty recognizable face. lol It was good talking to you!

Cool report Walter. Its always fun reading about you and Sasha racing it out.

From Craig on Sun, Aug 08, 2010 at 07:49:24 from 174.52.30.151

Walter- I know what you mean about age and lower mileage taking their toll. We can still bring it on race day, as long as those race days are spread out far enough. Sounds like Bryce had you slightly fatigued, enough to make the difference between the win and 4th. On the other hand, most runners (even on this blog) would kill to be as fast as you on an off day.

Walter, I'ts tough to roll em together like that. I've felt pretty flat after Des News and only now that things are turning around. So don't worry, take it easy and re-group. Are you going to St George or TOU?

From Walter on Sun, Aug 08, 2010 at 09:52:02 from 24.10.169.110

Teena, another unexpected race I probably shoudve passed on to get me healed up. lol

Allie, My middle name is actually james so I wasnt too far off. :)

Matt, nope no discount. Not even a thank you. She was too stressed out to think.

Mark, thanks! Im glad I didnt take your top 25 poster away from you.

Craig, its true! I used to be able to do 5 marathons a year. I cant do that now! Its impossible unless I dont worry about time.

Steve, Im running the Epic LOTOJA running relay next week then im doing the TOU half and finishing my year off with ST. George. My year has been plagued with stress from work issues and working 2 jobs and trying to juggle all I have. Running has had to be put on the back burner which is a shame. I have to pay the mortgage before I worry about a PR I guess.
