2 miles to warm up, dropped off Naomi to the babysitter.
Got to the 5k and wondered how crazy this event would be because it was a random race put together by random base leadership. They wanted us to start running at 7:35 and stop at approximately 7:46 (during the race) for a moment of silence to remember 9/11.
Started out and the course went down hill, I was moving quickly out, but I knew there wouldn't be much downhill to have anyway. We headed out toward the poop pond. Stopped for the minute of silence. It was interesting because I looked behind me at about 100 runners stopped. It was silent and I watched a T-6 fly across the sky. It was one of the cooler races I have done. I thought this idea was going to be a fail, but it was a win, it was pretty cool. After a minute (I stopped my watch), we were off again.
Ran down a small hill and turned around. Two men passed me, I was pissed (not really). Then we ran past the BX and had to go up another huge hill, down and around, back up another hill. I was DYING by 2.75 and I just wanted to cry. It was SUPER humid and I just wanted to cry. Kept going and I did stop my watch at 3.10, because I wanted an official 5k time trial. Ran in and I was 4th overall. (Yes, I passed the two men back!) David won (of course) with a 17:11. I was happy for him. I thought that for sure I would have been closer to 20. For the life of me, I struggle badly with 5ks. I want sub 20 so bad! Oh well.
Cool down and run back to get Naomi. I had to completely change because I was soaking. I did wringe the sweat out of my shirt when we got home, at least a cup of sweat came out of my clothes. Maybe I should measure that. Haha. 5 miles after the 5k to make it 10. Last long run.
