I'm beginning to wonder if I have a stress fracture.  I have not ran since Monday and the subtle pain in my upper left thigh is not subsiding.  I have started taking recovery supplements and I will give running another try on Monday.  If the pain is still there I will be going to the Doctor.  Lame.  My biggest frustration is that it is beautiful outside and I am stuck inside the gym Xtraining.

Today I did 55 minutes spinning and 15 minutes on the eliptical.  I am getting my heart rate to about 165-170, but I fee like I am loosing my fitness level as well.

Bec,

Are you worried about a stress fracture in your hip or your femur? The test for the femur is to sit on something with your legs hanging down (your hamstrings should be have on the bench half off). Then have someone push down on your knee as you pull up/resist. If there is pain, you likely have a stress fracture there.

Please be careful. Lots of calcium and vitamin D.

I know exactly what you mean about the frustration part. It's all part of the game we play though. Hang in there.

Teena,

Thanks for the test. Turns out there is pain. What is the next step you would recommend? Man, now I am just sad.

Get in to see a sports doc asap. Get this thing behind you as soon as possible ... don't be foolish and rush things like I did for so long (my original stress fracture was diagnosed 6 months ago). Do this right. Call one right now. (It still could be something else ... but it might very well be a stress fracture, so get in asap.) Be positive!!!

sorry to hear about your leg pain. i hope it's not a stress fracture, but until you find out, treat it like one or else you could be in for even more problems. be patient and don't try to push through ANYTHING that causes pain. best of luck.

Oh Bec, I am so sorry. Please go in and see a sport doctor right away. Make sure whatever diagnosis you get that he/she gives you rehabilitation therapy. Don't just settle for some pills or quick fix. Ask lots of questions so you know what to do for rehab and prevention. GOOD LUCK! I will be praying for you.

My best wishes for a true recovery.

I hate to say I told you so, but who was telling you to go to the doc like 5 days ago??? Okay, I won't rub it in :)

I really hope you DON'T have a stress fracture though!! DANG!! You're doing the best thing though and not pushing it, you are a super smart athlete. You need your body for another 60-70 years, take care of it! I agree with Smooth about no quick fixes, take the time to make sure it doesn't come back!! Best of luck and keep up the xtrain, it doesn't feel like it, but it really will help!!

Teena,

I have an appointment with a specialist on Monday. I hate the feeling of not knowing what's going on with my leg. Thank you for the suggestion of going to a doctor. I don't think I would go if it weren't for you.

Smooth,

Thank you so much for the prayers. Yes, this body has to go for many, many more years. I hope to one day be as strong as you.

RAD,

You did tell me so...I am taking your advice and going to the doctor. I am so jealous reading everyone's training schedules, especially YOURS! I am so pumped for you and how strong you are becoming as a runner.

Walter,

That smell of the pool is oh so sweet! I have only swam a few times and my skin feels like scales. I am really considering a tri this summer. Swimming is not all that bad.
