one mile intervals, east bench. did not go well as I burned out. I ODed on cookies last night so was bloated and didn't feel great. I need to lose 5 pounds. then I didn't until 9:30 Am and it was hot and too much sun. got to get out earlier now that it is getting hot. there are my excuses. I guess. oh well.

| intervals USU track. I am really struggling with speedwork these days. I don't know if it is mental or physical. I think part of the problem is I am running alone, and I just can't motivate myself, could be a sign I just need a break.
4 x 1 mile 15-20 seconds slower than hoped for pace. 6:05, 6:02, 6:07, 6:12. on a weirder note, our department (chem and biochem) has been experiencing strange and disturbing acts of vandalism the last few weeks- faculty offices and bathrooms vandalized, emergency showers activated, flooding labs, ice machines emptied into corridors, experiments sabotaged, gas lines shut off, etc... very disturbing and dangerous stuff. Now I hear they just arrested a suspect after being caught in the act, apparently a disgruntled graduate student. Very scary and disturbing.

riverside drive-sumac trail-river trail. saw my Uncle Roger in his yard working on the way so I stopped and said hi. My blog becomes increasingly more boring. Maybe I can liven it up with some exciting science. My students and I just published a paper in the journal of biological chemistry where we figured out how bromoethanesulfonate inhibits epoxide carboxylation. I know my small readership will be excited as they have been wondering about this for a long time. Here's the link to the exciting paper. I hope I don't keep anyone up too late reading this all the way through to it's exciting conclusion.

track workout. 4 x 1 mile, then a final 400 meter at the end. lots of sunbirds shuffling around the track in lane 1, providing an extra gauntlet challenge. The sunbirds live across the street from the track in the student apartments and like to walk on the track in the morning for exercise. They don't seem to comprehend that runners don't enjoy weaving in and out of lanes to get around them.Oh well, just an extra challenge to make things interesting. 5:57, 5:58, 6:00, 5:56, then a 79 second 400 meter to finish off.
