track workout. 4 x 1 mile, then a final 400 meter at the end. lots of sunbirds shuffling around the track in lane 1, providing an extra gauntlet challenge. The sunbirds live across the street from the track in the student apartments and like to walk on the track in the morning for exercise. They don't seem to comprehend that runners don't enjoy weaving in and out of lanes to get around them.Oh well, just an extra challenge to make things interesting.

5:57, 5:58, 6:00, 5:56, then a 79 second 400 meter to finish off.

Great times, especially considering the obstacles.

Hey looks like you're still at it. I think you should take a poll and see how many of us know what your blog headline means...see if we have any sleeper scientists on the blog. ;)

Anyway, if you want to get together and do a run sometime or some track work (after I recover from LP, anyway) let me know! I am a lot more free now that school is out and my work schedule is pretty enabling.

By the way, that reminds me. They are finally (after 135 years) building a track at the University of Utah. It's supposed to be done in a month or two. I'm excited because it's quite close to the building where I'm studying and where my post-doc will be. Scott, they have a biochem department down here, you know...

thanks guys!!

Joe, I am definitely up for some speedwork together, I really need the motivation. I can't keep up with you obviously, but we can play rabbit, where you let me start x seconds ahead of you and then see if you can overtake me by the end of the interval. good way for both of us to push each other. maybe we can get Ruth to join us too. alternatively, you can start ahead of me and clear a path through the sunbirds for me...

Steve, I can't believe U of U doesn't have a track?? I guess the PAC10 move fixed that. Actually, biochemistry at the U is a poor fit for me, since my research really isn't medically related, and biochem is at the med school. And I like to teach, and biochemistry programs in med school sare all about research, very little teaching. They like to brag about their light teaching loads, like a badge of honor or something. I would fit better in chemistry at the U. But I don't think my family wants to move so it is a moot point. But the lure of a new track....
